Extract Left Most Characters Until A Space

Oct 6, 2006

I am trying to write a function that finds and breaks a cell about the first space.

Worksheet is:

=LEFT(name,FIND(" ",name)-1)

Have tried...

Function Firstname(name)

Dim Space As Integer

Set Space = .Find(" ", name)

Firstname = Left(name, Space)

End Function

and also...

Function Firstname(name)

firstname = left(name,find(" ",name)-1))

End Function

Extract Characters To The Left Of Space Character In A Cell

I can do this in Excel, but I don't seem to have a single example to hand of how, using VBA, to extract all characters up to but not including, the first space character in a cell.

Extract Left Characters Up Until Specified Text

Nov 10, 2006

I am attempting to utilize the Mid, Left, and Right functions to parse out data returned in a single cell. There are twelve months of data returned with the "title" listed after. I would like to be able to FIND the title and return a specific number of characters of data to the LEFT not the right (as Mid seems to do).

EX.

Cell A1{ 1 2 4 5 3 5 TITLE1 1 2 3 6 7 4 5 TITLE2 3 4 5 2 4 5 TITLE 4 }

Cell A2{ 1 2 4 5 3 5 TITLE2 1 2 3 6 7 4 5 TITLE3 3 4 5 2 4 5 TITLE 4 }

I would like to be able to search each cell for the "TitleX" then parse data out to the left of that title (and if not found, return "").

There are too many different Titles to use IF statements and I cannot change that the data comes to the left of the title.

Trim Left Of Space

May 15, 2007

Sub GetThatstring()
Dim strMonth As String
Dim iYear As Integer
Dim StrMnthYear As String

strMonth = Trim(Left( Range("A1"), _
InStr(1, Range("A1"), " ", vbTextCompare)))
MsgBox strMonth

iYear = Mid(Range("A1"), _
InStr(1, Range("A1"), " ", vbTextCompare) + 1, 4)
MsgBox iYear

StrMnthYear = Trim(Left(Range("A1"), _
InStr(1, Range("A1"), " ", vbTextCompare) + 4))
MsgBox StrMnthYear
End Sub

I have a column of cells likes:
5/5058 Jack Daniels
5/29AA Crown Royal

I want to delete everything to the left of the first space.
So it will look like:
Jack Daniels
Crown Royal

It has to be vba though. I have done alot of trim in just formulas but this is first time in VBA. The above code is one I found by searching but not sure what to do to modify it.
This will be for range AM2:AM2000

Pull From Left Until Blank (Space)

Find Closest Space To The Left Of Specified Position And Then Split

Dec 9, 2013

I'm looking for a way to split a cell with text into two cells. The first cell can only contain up to 40 characters, the rest needs to go in the second cell. However, I don't want the text to be split in the middle of a word. So basically, if the text is in cell A1, I need to find the closest space to the left of position 40 in A1, and move anything to the right of this position to B1. Example:

Original text:
A1: One green apple and a bucket of small onions that smell nice

I want to avoid this:
A1: One green apple and a bucket of small on
B1: ions that smell nice

I want to achieve this:
A1: One green apple and a bucket of small
B1: onions that smell nice

Remove Front Zeros & Add Space Before Last 2 Characters

I want to remove the front zero(s) from the front and put a space before the last two letters for the following column of data in Excel:

0001MG
0020MG

Final result will have this format and the data are right aligned.
1 MG
20 MG
100 MG
1000 MG

The numbers can vary (e.g. 0150MG, 0025MG,etc.) but the arrangement is always the same: four figures for the first 4 characters and two letters for the last two characters.
The format of the cells containing the data is: “General”

My table has 7 columns and these data are in the 5th column in a worksheet called “ProductSummary”. The number of rows for the records can vary from 10 to over a couple of hundred.

How can I use VBA to: 1) automatically select the table range in that worksheet and reformat all the data in the 5th column.

Insert Multiple Characters Into String With LEFT RIGHT Functions?

Apr 29, 2014

I've got a long list of account numbers of varying length and ultimately need to add a dash and a dot into these numbers. Here's an example

12345678 to> 1-2345.678
123456789 to> 12-3456.789
1234567890 to> 123-4567.890

The standard format is always 3 numbers after the . and 4 numbers between the - and .

I can get to this by doing a series of functions starting with this:

=LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-3)&"."&RIGHT(A1,3) to get 12345.678 or 123456.789

copy/pasting that value into another field and then doing this

=LEFT(E1,LEN(E1)-8)&"-"&RIGHT(E1,8) to get the results above

I can't quite figure out the format to combine the multiple steps/functions into one so that I'm not copy/pasting values and re-doing the function.
