Calculating Elapsed Time,respecting Working Hours.

May 1, 2009

I am looking for a formula to calculate time from one date and time to another. The only catch is I only want it to use times during specific times.

Example

Start 5/1 8am and end 5/2 8am. The working hours are from 7am until 4pm and from 8pm till 5am. In this example the solution should be 17 hours.

How do I set up a formula to respect only working hours (also excluding weekends except for Saturday early am from midnight until 5am.

Sorry if this is confusing, I am trying to use IF statements but I’m fighting a losing battle.

Calculating Hours Worked Based On Elapsed Time Over 24H

Aug 6, 2007

If a Rescue Officer is called out at 23:00 and is back at 04:00, this should equate to 5 hours worked.

It seems that if my times are all on one side or the other of a 24 hour cycle, my calculation work fine but it it breaks across the 24 hour (as above, it doesn't work.

A2=04:00
A1=23:00

Using (A2-A1)*24 give me -19.00 hours

My SS macro has a line:

s = (wks.Cells(c, 3) - wks.Cells(c, 2)) * 24 'calculates the duration of time worked

Is there any way of getting excel to calculate an elapsed time in hours when the start and end times roll over from one day to the next?

Calculating Task Completion Time In Working Hours

Oct 15, 2007

The below is for Excel 2003.

I want to set up a spreadsheet that can show my work is completed within a service level agreement, based on working hours of 9-5 Monday-Saturday.

I want to be able, for example, to log that a piece of work is reported at 09:00 on a Monday and completed at 10:00 on Monday and for excel to calculate that as 1 hour until completion. Fine so far. But what if that job was closed at 10:00 two days later? Based on an 8 hour working day, that should be 17 hours.

And what if a bit of work comes in at 17:00 on the Saturday. No one works the Sunday. Say the job is completed at 10:00 on the Monday. that should calculate as 1 hour to completion.

The SLA I'm setting is 4 hours.

Calculating Time Elapsed Between Days As Decimal

Aug 24, 2012

I'm building a schedule in excel and am having trouble with the calculation of total hours when lapsing a day, or more specific, adding it into my current equation. For example; Monday they clock in at 5pm and work till 1am. I have found a couple of ways to get the desired out come from this on it's own. I just add the value of a day if the out time is less than the in time, or if the out time minus the in time is less than 0.

However, I need to add this calculation into an equation that is already calculating time elapsed within a single day, turning that into a decimal number and then checking if the total time elapsed is less than 6 hours, if false it subtracts a thirty minute break. Here is the current equation I'm using, I'm sure that there is an if(or, or if(and I could use to make it work when the time lapses 12am while also performing the 6 hour check to subtract the break.

=IF(((F7-INT(D7))*24)-(D7-INT(F7))*24

Time Calculation: Calculate How Many Hours Have Elapsed Between To Entries

Jun 22, 2009

I am trying to build a spreadsheet to calculate how many hours have elapsed between to entries; start time (H10) e.g. 9:15 AM and end time (I10) e.g. 12:15 PM. The formula that I am using in the calculation cell field (J10) is (I10-H10+(I10<H10))*24. This formula works great till I wish to include in an IF statement. What I would like is if the total hours calculated with the formula (I10-H10+(I10<H10))*24 is less than 4, return 4 (hours) otherwise the value. As well if there is no start time nor end time entered then return zero.

Calculate Elapsed Time Based On Business Hours

Dec 8, 2007

I've being trying t calculate an excel formula to work out a order turnaround time based on opening hours.

Example: The store is open from 8 am to 6pm monday to friday, I need to get a formula to work out how long it took from the time the order was logged until it was completed, during the course of the working day - this works fine but if the order was received on 06/12/07 at 5:20 pm then was finally completed by 7/12/07 at 11:55 the next day I need to figure out how to take into consideration of non working hours during that time. (time from 6pm to 8 am next day

example 2 - if order was sent on the 06/12/07 at 01:30pm and completed at 06/12/07 4:30 then I know its taken 3 hours to complete

example 3 - if the order was sent on the 06/12/07 at 5pm and completed next day at 07/12/07 at 10am - then I know it took 3 hours to complete

Excel 2010 :: Calculating Average Elapsed Time

Apr 3, 2014

In our sql server table, we have a field of type DATETIME. This field is populated by a vendor product with the elapsed time of an event.

We created a SQL Server view of this column and other columns of info joined together from several tables.

Then we create in Excel 2010 a new spreadsheet with a data connection to the SQL Server, instance, and view that we created.

Excel 2010 displays each of the columns in our view.

The elapsed time column appears as "dd hh:mm:ss". However, when we click on a cell to look at its formatting, Excel lists it as general.

We want to calculate the average time in this column.

We go down below the data, click on a cell, and insert =Average(C2:C17215) and we get an error saying dividing by zero.

We have 17,000+ rows of data, so there is no divide by zero math going on here. Each row in this column has data, so there are no blank cells.

We have spent some time web searching. We then tried various methods of calculating this. Nothing has worked. In most cases, we get the divide by zero. We tried some solutions that mention using an array forumula, but that just changed the error to an invalid value error.

Calculating Working Hours Without Using Dates

Mar 18, 2014

I'm trying to calculate shift working hours without using dates.

The scenario is

Cell A1 = Start Time
Cell A2 = Start Time
Cell A3 = Break Time

Basically I want the output to calculate hours worked between:-

0000 and 0600 as a total in cell A4
0600 and 1800 as a total in cell A5
1800 and 0000 as a total in cell A6

Then if the value of A5 is greater than A3, subtract A3, but if the value of A5 is less than the value of A3, A5 should be zero and the remainder of the value of A3 subtracted from A4 (or A6) depending which has a value.

Preferably the function should work like the NETWORKDAYS() function, but it should also include the time, not just the dates. And also, if have to add say 8 hours to a date, how should I calculate the result? Also this function should aware of the working hours and holidays, so it should ignore those times.

Calculating Time Using Microsoft 2003. Carrying Over Hours Only?

I have tried =MOD(A1,24/24) and =TIME(0,HOUR(A1),0). I have also tried to right click the cell, went to Format Cell, went to the Numbers tab and tried the different options in the Time and Customs category, but I can't seem to get 2:01 to appear as 2:00 only.

Calculating Start / End Time Between Night Shifts 24 Hours?

Dec 26, 2013

We have a person who work in 24/7 support. One person work passive 24 hour, but it 24 hours are divided in to next shifts: normal 06-18, over hours 18-22, night hours 22-06.So if we have some one who is supporting client say from 17h till 23h, we have next results:

Name Start time End Time 06:00 - 18:00 18:00 - 22:00 22:00 - 06:00

John 17:00 23:00 1:00 4:00 1:00

Is it possible to in time range enter formula who subtracted end time from start time, but taking into account 24 hours?

Calculating Date & Time Difference: Result In Hours Only

Sep 29, 2006

Instead of calculating a time difference manually I want to have a formula do it for me. What I want to achieve goes as followed:

08/06/2006 04:33
12/06/2006 01:05

Time difference is 92:32 [hh:mm]

another example:

09/06/2006 12:42
12/06/2006 11:35

Time difference is 70:53 [hh:mm]

So instead of getting 92:32 and 70:53 by calculating it myself I would like to have a formula do it for me. Otherwise I'll have to invest a lot of time to get the information I need.
