I've inserted a Solidworks drawing into a worksheet & wish to change the displayed image using VB. I suspect this could be done by changing it's source file, but can't get the code to work.
I have a workbook with a number of pivot tables as well as the source data for each pivot table. Some of the source data sheets needed to be deleted so now if I try to refresh the corresponding pivot table I get "Connot open pivot table source file '[Std Mthly Rpt.xls]Report_2'". I recreated the source file again and would like to know if I can link the pivot table to this new source file or do I need to create a new pivot table??
I have embeded a PDF file in an Excel Worksheet. When I double-click to open the PDF file the I get an error message: "Cannot start the source application for this object." However, the pdf file opens anyway. how to prevent the error message from displaying (without stopping real error messages)? (...happens in Excel 2000 and Excel 2003) NB: I researched this site first - user "Ed" raised the same issue 27/1/03 - but it doesn't appear to have been resloved.
I have an excel file - central database - that holds a lot of raw data organized in tables. There are more than 15 files (dependent files) that access this data using VLOOKUP formulas.
I now need to add a few columns to the central database and these columns can't be after the columns already existing, i.e. they have to be on the left of some of the existing columns. Inserting those columns is going to mess up all the vlookup formulas in the dependent files.
Is there a way change the central database file without affecting the vlookup formulas in the dependent files?
I have 3 worksheets, one worksheet is a summary worksheet that gives totals for what the user chooses... like Actual vs Budget or Actual vs Prior... etc. When we are in our meetings a common question is where did these numbers come from?
I would like to create a macro button that when you are on a cell you can click the button and the macro well take you to the destination cell. Is there a way you can write a formula in to the macro that would use the formula in the current cell and take you to where that number comes from?
I have created a powerpoint that has linked charts from excel. Stupidly, I have saved both of these files (powerpoint and excel) on my desktop.
I need to save them on another drive (so they can be accessed by others) but i am worried that if i move the original excel file, it will break the links for the charts in the powerpoint file....
I have over 150 charts so I don't fancy going through and re-pasting each chart.
I have a userform with a textbox and would like the user to type inside the textbox which in turn send the text typed to a cell on my spread sheet say sheet 1 cell ref A1. I am writing the following into the control source Sheet1!A1 but the control source does not except this. I am using excel 2007 .
I have a base excel file for summarizing some data, the problem is that the data comes from a different excel spreadsheet. What I want to do is make a function that pulls the data from another spreadsheet into my base file. It would be easy if it were just one excel sheet, but this job would require where the data is pulled from a data file which has many modified versions.
Can anyone tell me how to do this? The files with the data will be structured the exact same but with different data entered in. I just want a button so I can click the file I want the data from and have it show up on my summarizing base file.
I'm working on right now is a spreadsheet where we catalog and monitor account information for a handful of groups. I have several different worksheets that contain grouped information such as all groups we have and a list of individual people in those groups. Those groups are in a single column going down and the people are in a single row for that group going from left to right, an example is below:
Master Personnel Listing for Accounts ------------------------------------------------- Group 1 | Name 1 | Name 2 | Name 3 Group 2 | Name 1 | Name 2 Group 3 | Name 1 Group 4 | Name 1 | Name 2 | Name 3 | Name 4....................
I have created a 'price list' database in ACCESS. Then in EXCEL I created a pivot table which retrieves data from one of the database queries (the query was saved as a .dqy file).
I emailed the file containing the pivot table to a colleague who is on the same server. He saved the excel file on he desktop & renamed it. When I update the databse file on a shared public drive on the server, he is able to 'refresh' his desktop file successfully !!
We have a set of workbooks with a linked Vlookup formula. When we email the file to staff that do not have access to the linked file, the linked formula seems to change the directory. see below
Original Formula =VLOOKUP($A$30,'G:Variance Reports FY07[Salary Dist Var Repts_Cur Mth.xls]end of July'!$E$76:$G$200,3)
Formula after user opens email with the drive changed automatically to C =VLOOKUP($A$30,'C:Variance Reports FY07[Salary Dist Var Repts_Cur Mth.xls]end of July'!$E$76:$G$200,3)
Note that the user does not have access to the G drive and they are not updating the links when they open the file.
I need to link my code to data from a different Excel file. I feel it is smth simple, i just have never done this before. In a regular (=same file) setting, my code would be smth like that:
With Worksheets("Daily1") j = 1 Do Until IsEmpty Range("A6").Offset(j - 1, 0).Value) j = j + 1 Loop m = j End With
What would be the syntax if data instead comes from, say, Z:Brazildata.xls. In general, when I retrieve data from another file, do I always have to use "With - End With" structure?
I have a summary file in which I capture data from multiple sheets in one existing file (targetfile.xls).
One month might contain sheets that do not exist next month. When updating (edit) links, Excel reports an error (invalid external reference) on the first missing sheet, and does not continue checking/updating links for the rest of the document.
I tried =IF(ISERROR( SUM('[targetfile.xls]sheet1'!$M:$M)),0,SUM('[[targetfile.xls]sheet1'!$M:$M)),
I have attached an example spreadsheet to describe what I am working with. I was wondering if there is an easy way to have it so that everything in Column A is hyper linked to the ship bill file. This list can exceed over 1000 and to hyper link each line is too much, is there an automatic way to do this? For example. I would like the value '00001 in cell A2, to be hyper linked to the file "Shipping Bill - 00001" So that I can just click on the link and open up the file. The shipping bill files are in the same folder as the example spreadsheet.
I want to insert linked AutoCAD files into a worksheet.
When I select "Insert, Object, Create From File, Browse..." & select AutoCAD file I get error message "Cannot insert object"
I can follow same process, but with a Solidworks drawing & it works fine.
I need to install the relevant graphics filter "Dxfimp32.flt", but I can't find it anywhere.
Strangley, if I copy images directly from AutoCAD screen, I'm able to paste them into a worksheet, but as an embedded object. Whilst this suggests I have some AutoCAD graphics ability, I still can't insert a linked file.
I have a workbook with a button to get updated data. The button simply opens the other workbook and then closes it. THe problem is it opens the book and then closes it before the opened book has a chance to finish it calculation resulting in lots of #value errors. The book that is being opened works fine but because it is shared it can't be left open and needs to be closed asap, though it should be allowed to finsih calcs before it gets closed again. If anyone know a way to make the following temporarily halt until the opened book finishes calculating before it closes it.
I am a complete newbie with the camera tool. Is there any way to make the camera tool dynamic so that the cells the tool is referencing can change upon the click of a button or some other form of switch? I am creating my first dashboard and this is the last step for my report to be completely dynamic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Never mind, I apologize i just figured this one out...
Create a user defined formulaIn the UDF Create an if statementThe if statement's condition is the logistics in the shift mechanismThe value if true is the first group of cells you want in the snap shotThe value if false is the second group of cells you want in the snap shot, The range you want to toggle betweenRename the cell reference of any snap shot you have taken with the UDF name. In my example my UDF is "Dude" so when you select the camera tool it shows =Dude as the cell referenceReference a scroll bar to the conditional cell you selected in the if statement or choose statement. This is the shift mechanism
If you want to toggle between more than 2 sets of data use =Choose instead of =if
I have a workbook with several sheets with formulas, etc. one of the sheets its like a "resume" of the workbook. I want that sheet with the "resume" to be visualized by other person's without giving the access to the workbook.
The idea it's a file with linked data with the workbook that have the sheet with the "resume". When I change some data in the workbook the file with the linked data must be updated when someone open it and cannot edit, it is just for visualization.
I am trying to write some VBA that will select a row of cells that each have links to cells in another workbook, and then either autofill the formulas down (or pastespecial them down) for 20 rows. I have that part down using either pastespecial or autofill, but -
Since the forumulas are links to another workbook, Excel wants to resolve that link to calculate the values at the time of the pastespecial or autfill. If the sourced workbook is not open, the "browse for file" popup displays. I don't want the popup to display and would rather just get the #REF in the pasted cells and let it resolve the next time the sourced workbook is open. The end result would be like clicking "cancel" to the "browse for file popup", which I'm tired of constantly doing... I would just like to skip that popup all together and get the #REF value.
I've recently aquired a spreadsheet previously maintained by someone else. After my initial review the speradsheet has many links that need to be updated, which I do via Edit-Links, but there are also some links that no longer need to exist. I have reviewed all sheets and some links just no longer exist, however when I try to break the link or change the source nothing happens. I have had the original owner also check and confirm and they have the same issue. Finally I tried copying all the tabs into a new workbook, but the link shows up again.
My spreadsheet has multiple charts, each referencing a dynamic named range as its source data (e.g. "California1", "California2", etc). Each named range contains multiple series. I would like to make it easy for a single chart to quickly adjust to display different named ranges (e.g. view the chart with "California1" data, then update the same chart to view "California2" data).
I'd like to do this without having to right-click on the chart, select Source Data, and then type in "California2" as the Data Range. My question: is there a way to make the chart's Source Data Range dynamic so that I can quickly select the named range that I want to display? For example, would it be possible to tie the Data Range to a separate cell so that if I typed "California2" into that cell the chart would know to use that named range as its new source data?
I have an excel addin that contains chart templates. Without going into too much detail a user will select an option which will update these templates then move the charts along with the source data to a new workbook. My question is this; How do I change the chart references programatically so that the chart data now points to the source data in the new workbook.
I receive the following error: Run-time Error '1004':
The source data of a pivotchart report cannot be changed. You can change the view of data in a pivotchart report by reorganizing its fields or items, or by changing its associated PivotTable report.
I have a periodic task which involves moving some sheets from an existing workbook and presenting it in a new workbook. There are some diagram that I move as well from the worksheet. However, I also move the source data for the diagrams into the new workbook as well. Everytime I do this I need to change the source data to the new worksheet which is quite tiresome. Is there a smart hack to actually point the diagram source data to the new workbook?
Am currently working on an excel sheet that has values in multiple columns and rows. Simple example would be like
Assume two columns , with column One having a dropdown list to select the value ,
Pencil 2 Paper 3 Pencil 3 Eraser 3 Pencil 3
I want the data to be created in another sheet as
Pencil - 8 Paper - 3 Eraser - 3
I understand that this can be done through pivot table but the issue is when I change the quantity of the item in the source , say reduce pencil by 1 , the same should be reflected in the summation sheet as well automatically .
