Charts: Vary Colors By Point With Area Fill Effect
Oct 30, 2006
I am attempting to create simple charts to show survey results 2005 v 2006. I have a single series in a bar chart - chart type. The wizard initially makes both bars the same fill color. I right-clicked one of the bars to start the Format Data Series Wizard. On the 5th tab, "Options", I ticked "Vary Colors By Point". A new color was assigned to the top or first bar. So far so good. But instead of these colors, I would like to use a different fill effect for each data point in the series
So I walk through the wizard and desiqn a fill effect and click ok. The fill effect is assigned to both data points. I checked where I had ticked "Vary Colors By Point"
It is still ticked. Can I override this somehow so that each data point can have a unique fill effect?

I am trying to graph the following data in an area chart with line charts superimposed on the area chart. I have a lot of data (and a lot going on) so I'm trying to figure out the best way to show this in excel from a functional standpoing (i can't get this to work in excel!!) to also an asthetic standpoint (dont want it to look terrible or illegible). This is what I'm trying to chart:
1) Weather data (temperature) by region:
So one region, would be: Northwest
I would like the "area" (so a shaded region) to be the min/max of the temperature data for each month.
2) I would like to show the temperature for each year as a line graph on the chart - so you can see if a year falls in or out of the shaded region.
3) I would like to show a company's sales increases across the same months per year as separate line charts. I may choose to just show the biggest outlier year in the end... or to show 2006 (the latest data).
What I am trying to convery with the chart is that the company's sales is or is not tied to weather deviations. I have attached an excel file with the data. I haven't been able to use the area chart or get a two axis chart to work or get it to look even remotely professional.

I want to gradually change th colour in a block of cells. my plan is to use code to sequentially fade through ten or so shades from light to dark. is there a way to slow the code down so that it takes a couple of seconds to run the sequence?

Here's a problem I'd like to be able to solve in VBA:
Retrieve the current cell color (let's say A1 = 'green')
Format A1's cell colors (using the VBA equivalent of the 'Format Cells' / 'Fill' / 'Fill Effects' / '2 color Gradient' feature) so that the background cell color (color 2) is set to 'green' with color 1 being set to 'white' with a shading style of "From Center"
I'm using Excel 2010.

I have to create a chart XY Scatter plot in excel. I have to differentiate the data points color based on the another column "category". Now I can change the data points color manually. Since the number of points is huge, is it possible to color the data points based on a column?

I'm trying to create a macro to add a fill effect on the bars of my chart.
However, I don't want it to change the bar's current color. Just to do the effect on the current color.
Code:
Sub fill()
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(2).Select
With Selection.Border
.Weight = xlThin
.LineStyle = xlAutomatic
End With
[code].....

I want to conditionally format the fill colour of pie or donut segments based on either the value of the segment (e.g. red for negative, green for positive), or based on the value of related cells (e.g. Equal sized segments coloured red for related %age value >40, amber for 40 to 60, green >60).

I have some excel sheets that are formatted like the following:
COMPANY | TOTAL | R | G | B
company1 | 10 | 255 | 000 | 000
company2 | 20 | 000 | 255 | 000
company3 | 30 | 000 | 000 | 255
...
and so on...
My question is that I would like to have a macro that runs on this basic file and creates a bar graph with the data. Then it utilizes the RGB values in the columns to change the specific bar for that row. So setting the r, g, b as variables corresponding to the columns in the sheet. Also there isn't a preset number of rows in the files.

The first data point of my chart appears cutoff along the y axis
I formatted the x-axis by clearing the check box "Value (Y) axis crosses at maximum category"
If I add the tick mark back in then my first data point does not begin at the origin.

I need to have two area charts combined, but they have different x and y values. Is there another way to do this.When I try to combine them in one graph, I can only use one x-axis value.
In the excel sheet the PV needs to be the x-axis.

when I copy a worksheet from one workbook to another, the colors on the sheet in the destination workbook, become dull/faded. They actually change from the original colors to some off colors. I copy by selecting the source sheet, hold down ctrl key, then drag from one workbook to another). Also, is there a way to get the sheet back to the original colors.

The bright colors work well, but when they print the sheet on a laserjet black/white printer, the colors make the data almost impossible to read.
Is there a way to allow them to print the sheets and, by default, not print the background fill colors?

My input data for Pivot table has a column named "Month". The month values are like April 07, April 08, Nov07 in random order for period between Jan 07 to Aug 08.
When I create a pivot Table, this column is sorted alphabetically (April 07 is followed by April 08) but I need it to be sorted in the ascending order with respect to month (April 07 is followed by May 07).
I further use this data to plot a Pivot Chart. There is another issue here. I want to use separate colors for each series. I do not know how to achieve above 2 things.

I'm trying to format the plot area of a X-Y scatter chart in a three colour gradient (Green, Yellow & Red).
The trick is, I would like the green portion to be centred in a user defined place on the plot with the yellow radiating from it, and the red radiating from the yellow. Ideally I would like to define some stops for the green as a user defined shape, with stops for the yellow outside the green stops (like the % stops you get in a vertical or angled gradient, but instead of the stops being simple straight lines or concentric circles from the middle, they would be user defined shapes).
I can do the normal types of gradient, but have no idea how to customise them in this way.

My pallet lost color-coding - if I hover over each little scare it displays the names for the colors and if I click on them they color the cells with the right colors, but the palette itself lost the visual display of colors except for 8 colors: black, blue, red, magenta, yellow, cyan, and white.
I use color-coding of cells a lot and I find it difficult to work without visual clues. At least the hover-support allows me to get the work done, but with difficulty.

I have a pivot table as shown below which is pretty straight forward however I am trying to create a macro that will automatically change the point name to match the point name in column E then copy that resulting dispaly to another sheet then pick the next point name in line and do the same thing and repeat for 50 rows, so my end result will be 50 pivot tables ready for printing. I can do this manually but I am trying to make it automatic...BTW the point names in column E change everyday but the pivot table supports the name changes.
Option Explicit
Sub PointName()
Dim Ws As Worksheet
Dim Rng As Range, Cel As Range
Set Ws = ActiveSheet
Set Rng = Range(Cells(2, 7), Cells(Rows.Count, 7).End(xlUp))
For Each Cel In Rng
Ws.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("Point Name").CurrentPage = Cel & " "
Ws.Columns("A:B").Copy
Sheets.Add
With ActiveSheet
.Paste
.Name = Trim(Cel)
.Range("A1").Select
End With
Next
Ws.Activate
End Sub
I turned it off for a while and when I turned it back on I am getting an error
Unable to set the _Default property of the PivotItem class
Debugger is highlighting
Ws.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("Point Name").CurrentPage = Cel & " "

I'm trying to amend a chart via combo box. Cell C15 returns a dynamic named range, based on a vlookup.
My problem is in having the code pick up the value that C15 returns, rather than the formula in it.
Set rng = Sheets("Chart lookup").Range("C15")
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=rng, _
PlotBy:=xlColumns
