Combining Text And Numbers?
May 7, 2014I have the correct formula but the formula is not converting over.
54Morningside Dr=F287&" "&G287
I am trying to combine 54 and Morning side Dr to one cell.

Say I have a column of numbers. I'd like to be able to string them together in the following format: number1|number2|number3....
connect.xlsx
I am trying to come up with a formula which would combine two groups of numbers, put them in numberial order and remove duplicate numbers:
3 6 10 22
1 3 5 9 10 13 19
The above two groups of numbers are in separate cells in two different rows.
the result would also be in a different row: 1 3 5 6 9 10 13 19 22
I have the two following columns
Report ID Facility ID 25 1 25 10 25 100 25 1000
And I need to "combine" the two numbers to create integer values so I can import the values into excel
The following is how I would like it formatted
250001
250010
250100
251000
so facility id has a numberformat of "0000" and then the report id is appended to that value.
I have 2 spreadsheets with a total of 100,000 rows of item descriptions. The problem is that I have to combine the text in the rows to create a complete item description into one cell. The number of rows for each description varies from 1 row to 7 rows. Excel experts here are using the term "concatinate."
There is one common element to the item description. There is a unique 11 digit code (in its own separate column) in the appropriate number of rows for each description. Note that the unique # I identified below doesn't look right since this document does not allow me to show the numbers in a column.
The spreadsheet looks like the following (I have created 2 item descriptions). I have at least 40,000 more.
PAD, EASEL, 27" X 34", ERASABLE, STATIC 61562030632
IMAGES, 34 SHEETS/PAD 61562030632
AVERY #24-391 OR EQUAL 61562030632
PAD, WRITING, 8.5 X 11.75, LEGAL RULE, 61562030940
PERFORATED 61562030940
AMPAD 20-___ 61562030940
RMOD FOR COLOR AND TO COMPLETE CATALOG 61562030940
NUMBER 61562030940
I could use a formula or a macro that would combine the descriptions into one cell. One other problem was identified as I tried to combine the text. There has to be a space created after the last letter of each row, otherwise, the last word in the row combines with the first word of the next row.
I have two columns, Brief Descriptions and Detailed Descriptions. In many cases they are different and I combine the two for one longer description; however in certain instances the two columns read the same. Is there was way to combine the two cells where any repeat text is only expressed once?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook where I track projects. Whenever I enter an update in the comments section for a particular project I enter the current date and the word UPDATE! into a column labelled Updated. The format should look like the following.
18-Aug-08
UPDATED!
As I have to do this on a regular basis I wanted to create a macro that would do this. I came up with the following.
I am trying to combine the text from the comments boxes of a full row of cells into the comments box of a separate other cell in order to provide an overview of the comments in these cells in one place.

I am trying to make that amazon cell, all text to appear as one line like the second line foreign conversion fee i want it to appear like that. Rather then having to delete and modify 100's of rows like this.
I have about 20 choices I'd like a user to select from and have the text output to a single cell.
Just create a Data Validation List? Yeah, but that only allows you to select ONE of the items in the list -- I want to select as few as zero and as many as all 20, combining the resulting text into a single string - space or comma delimited.
My first thought was checkboxes, but all I can seem to figure out is how to get ONE of the results into the cell, meaning I'm better off with the Data Validation List because it's easier.
Especially since I need to repeat this for as many as 200 or 300 lines,
I'm trying to combine text and a cell reference using Indirect. Cell B1 contains the text "Region" (no quotation marks). In another cell I'm trying to create a reference to "Region total" (no quotation marks). By my limited understanding the below should work: =INDIRECT("b1"&" total")
But the cell returns #REF!. I've tried pretty much every combination of quotation marks around different elements of the formula I can think of. Cell B1 is a drop down list, don't imagine that's relevant, but it may be.
Is there a way to combine cells in excel and chage the color of part of it?
Example: On my sheet I have multiple cells I need to combine:
Say A1 reads 23.65
Say A2 reads 43.65
Now on A3 I want it to read "Estimated budget 23.65 vs 43.65"
I can get this to work but here is the problem, I want the 23.65 to always be red and bolded and the 43.65 to always be blue and bolded.
For making quotes at work, I'm looking to have the quotes named automatically. The format of naming our quotes is the date (in this format) then quote name: yymmddNAME (Example for today: 090720EXCEL)
I'm using the =NOW() function for the date (Cell A1), then doing a custom format to turn the format into yymmdd then in a different cell I'm putting in the "NAME" (Cell A2) and what I want to do is combine the 2 cells (Cell A3) by doing: =A1 & A2
but when i do this, the format of the date gets messed up.
I have the below macro which is failing to insert text into A1 of the Header Sheet, followed by the values in the designated cells that are from Sheet1. I would also like to have the values in cells J2 and K2 enclosed in single quotes.
Sub Header()
Worksheets("Header").Activate
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, 1).Select
ActiveCell.Value = "create or replace" & " '" & Sheet1.Range("J2").Cell.Value & "' " & " '" Sheet1.Range("K2").Cell.Value & "' "
End Sub
how do I get it into the nicely formatted version most of you are using? The Mr Excel HTML add-in?
Cell A is the first name, B is a period, C is the last name, D is an "@" and E is "yahoo.com".
I want to squeeze them all together, in order, without spaces, into cell F to make an email address.
What is the formula ?
I have sheet1 where there is a data.
Column A has dates and column F, G, H have some text with ',' ( e.g. Paper, wall, taps...etc)
I want to now combine text values from Column F ( rows of current month only) and place them in sheet2 in one cell with ',' in between text and not showing same item twice.
Sample book attached ....
This is my formula with concatenation: =K3/K1*100 & "c" & " Each"
This is the result of the values in K3 divided by K1: 6.41666666666667c Each
I would like to limit the decimal places to two: 6.41c Each.
I have tried to format the cell and none of the formatting options have any effect.
If possible I would like to use the rounding function but I do not know how to combine the formula + text + rounding.
I am extracting data from a website to excel 2010. my problem is the data contains both text, numbers, and sometimes a combination of both.
e.g. hi im ron for more information you can reach me at 6 five 6 four 5 seven 7 three 2 two..
I need it to look like this 6564577322 or 7 * 0 * 2 * 4 * 5 * 6 * 8 * 6 * 2 * 1...i need to look look the same
How do i first format the numbers written in text into numbers and then show only the numbers in a cell minus the text?
I have a text file with rows and columns of numbers ranging from 1-4 digits that I'd like to import/copy into Excel with each number being in its own cell. But whenever I copy/try to import, Excel splits all of the 3-4 digit numbers up into single digit numbers. The text file has 10,000+ columns (each number occupies two columns so I have half of that amount in numbers) and 300+ lines.
Is the file simply too large for Excel to handle or is there a way I can do this?
In the ID column of the attached excel file whenever I convert the numbers stored as text to numbers it results in a weird transformation.
e.g. an ID of 480610141001 becomes 4.8061E+11. When I do the same process in the name column, which has similar numbers, it will give the correct result following the same process.
The format of the text in which I need to extract numbers is as follows:
23411268 - 23411270
Need to extract the following:
23411268
23411269
23411270
These numbers have to be listed in three seperate rows.
I have been looking through the forums and found the below code, but I have both text and numbers in the same range. I have attached an example of what I need to have converted.
Book1.xlsx
I have a text string in cell A1 as below:
repairs booked in Dec,11 (INR 37k)
training fees Dec,11 (INR 42k)test Fee Reimb for 03 emp Dec,11 (INR 56k)
skill fees booked in Jan,12 INR 52k
Reimb for 01 employee in Jan,12 INR 8k fee accounted- xyz INR 250k, Quick solutions INR 52K, ABCD India INR 272K, Layer Technologies INR30K and complex mgt INR 21K
Note: (INR 37K) means negative number i.e. -37
Now my task is to manually total the above amounts in calculator, i.e.
-37-42-56+52+8+250+52+272+30+21 = =550
like this there are 100s of cells, could derive a formula for this task.
A

In the example above, I would like to do a vlookup in column C that matches the digits in column A to those in column F, with the output being the corresponding value in column G. I believe it involves the left function but not sure how to really use it here.
I'm working on a spreadsheet with about 400 rows and 10 columns. All the numbers in the columns are formatted as text, which doesn't allow me to use AutoSum. I have selected the cells and formatted them as number with no decimals, but AutoSum still doesn't work because the formatting hasn't changed and they're still formatted as text. I know if I double click each cell, the cell changes the format from text to number, but that will take a lot of time to change 400 cells in each of the 10 columns. What can I do to quickly reformat the cells from text to number?

This is the order in which the data is copied and saved from worksheets in which they are developed. Note that 3 rows (8.1.2.1 through 8.1.2.3) are below 8.1.3 (because the three come from Worksheet 8.1.2 which came after worksheet 8.1). The first four rows came from a Top Level Worksheet. I would like to see them intermixed but in proper order.
I need to compare two colums by number decription for example m344 in one column and fsh344-1 in another. All I want to match is 344. In column a I want to indcate the match by placing an X by each match. View my attachment for reference. I don't know if it makes a difference but the columns are centered in my original spreadsheet.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSee attached file. A colleague is downloading rows of data from a website which contains a number field Excel is currently treating as Text after being pasted in. My spreadsheet includes just a sample of the many rows of data however as you can see the VALUE function refuses to convert these text values to numbers. How these might be converted and why the VALUE function refuses to work in this case?
