Copy Cells So That Copying Formula Results In References As Shifting Horizontally

May 4, 2014

I began to ponder a way to copy down cells so that the copying of the formulas results in references as shifting horizontally instead of vertically. One particular reason that this occurred to me had to do with my attempting to use Excel to make more orderly text copied from Adobe.

So, for example, if I copied text from Adobe, I would paste it in Excel. Thirty lines of text would past vertically into a column, from Row A1 to Row A30, with each line of text in its own row. I wanted to figure out a way so that in adjacent columns, I could put it so that I would have a set of formulas reading in =A1 in Column C cell/row 1, =A2 in Column D cell 1, =A3 in Column E cell/row 1, =A4 in Column F cell/row 1, =A5 in Column G cell/row 1, and so forth. I realized that if I copied this down, in the second row, the result would entail references to A2, A3, A4, A5, A6. I would prefer that the references update to A6, A7, A8, A9, and A10.

Copy Pairs From 2 Columns To Formula Reference Cells & Copy Updated Formula Results

Jun 24, 2008

I am currently working on a data analysis project (data mining) and need to collect and later analyze statistics for the inputs which control a series of calculations. These statistics are shown in the Statistics 1, Statistics 2 and Statistics 3 cells in the workbook that I attached. The inputs are X,Y; all possible values for these inputs are listed in the N,O columns. Basically I need a macro which would take the values from these two columns and place them pair after pair into the controlling cells (K3, L3), then it would copy cells H2 through L3 (updated stats) to a new sheet after each copy operation - so that I will finally have a list of statistics for all of the input pairs.

Copy Formula Horizontally Across Rows

Nov 21, 2008

I have a percent value in cell E3, for example, then other numbers in cells H3through AA3. The formula is for all numbers in cells H3 through AA3 to be multiplied by the percent value in cell E3.

When I try to copy the formula entered in cell H3 to the rest of the cells across the same row, it does not copy as I would like. Instead of having all cells multiply cell E3, it will progress through each next cell. How can I format all cells I choose in row 3 to multiply the same cell, E3?

What I want is to be able to change the percent value in E3, for instance, and have all other cells automatically change values according to the percent they are multiplying in cell E3. I have about 160 rows I want to do this same thing in.

Copy Rows Formula Horizontally With Pattern Using Fill Handle?

Mar 2, 2014

b2 = a2 * 150
c2 = a2 * 145
d2 = a2 * 140
e2 = a2 * 135

[Code].....

in the first row i want to use the fill handle at 135 and drag rightwards so as to copy/retain the pattern (decrementing by 5, from multiplier 150 until 100)

how would I achieve that?

p.s I also want the formula for columns to work with the fill handle drag downwards.

Change Formula To The Results Of The Formula For Cells That Have Results

I have a range that has formulas that are based on other fcells outside the range.

What I want to do is, if the cell has a value to remove the formula and paste the results. If the filed is blank (no results from the formula) to leave the formula in place.

There could be a marco to run when this process is needed.

How To Copy Formula That References A Series Of Sheets

The D worksheet is a summary sheet that pulls in data from A, B and C.

There are approx 50 of these references to Cell A. Is there an easy way to copy the same formulas but reference Sheet B and C without having to retype them all?

Automatically Shifting Cells

Oct 23, 2008

I'm looking to create a program that enables the macro to run with placing the desired cell blocks (A3:F12) from Sheet1 into Sheet2, and when i press the shortcut key again, it automatically places the cell blocks underneath the previous data that was pasted in the Sheet2. The goal of this is to keep a history of the data into the Sheet2.

I'm new to this, especially with VBA but is there any possible way to create this type of macro program?

Use Cells For Formula References

In effect, I want to make a function =SUM("A1B1":"C1D1") such that it gives me =SUM(A2:B10). Hopefully, the answer will work for any function (e.g. SUMIF, COUNT, VLOOKUP, etc).

Copy Non Absolute Cell References In Conditional Formatting Formula?

Dec 3, 2012

I have this fairly simple formula which decides whether to shade a cell or not

=AND($X$1<>"TBD",R3<>"None",AC3="Y")

This is set in cell R3 and I want to copy it all the way down the cells in the R column. However, when I copy & paste (and copy and paste using paste special, formatting) the R3 and AC3 cell references do not update to match their relevant rows. eg If I highlight cell R26 the conditonal formatting formula still refers to cell R3 and AC3, not R26 & AC26. I'm using Excel 2010 but I don't recall this happening in 2003.

Macro To Copy Formula While Keeping Original Cell References

Feb 17, 2009

I'm trying to create a VBA macro that will allow me to copy a formula from one sheet to another whilst keeping all the original references.

E.g.

If the formula on Sheet1 is:

= sum(A1:B6)

then the copied formula on Sheet2 would read

=sum(Sheet1!A1:Sheet1!B6)

You can do this by cuting the cell, but I don't want to do this, I want to leave the original cell unchanged.

I'm sure there is some simple VBA code to do this, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Formula In Cells With Changing References

Mar 12, 2009

I am running a research experiment in triplicate. Upon generation of data for all three, I create an averaged value of the three. I then take this value and do more calculations with it on a separate sheet. I wanted to know if there was a way in which I could quickly generate formulas based on a changing reference cell.

Example Data:

V1A 28
V2A 26
v3A 30
AvA 28

V1B 20
V2B 22
V3B 18
AvB 20

Vxy represents the value of y sample, x triplicate. V1A being sample A, first triplicate. AvX is the average of the three values.

I want to be able to generate a formula that references AvA which can be applied to the cell immediately below to reference AvB. A simple example would be to square the average.

Now if I want to copy only cells which have a value other than the 0 to the end of used rows on another sheet on the Master workbook using VB I run into a problem because it sees 0 as a value and copies as well.

The issue is how do I stop the 0 showing and not being seen as a value. This 0 shows regardless of format.

Getting Indirect Formula To Update Cells References When Copied?

Mar 18, 2014

As you would normally use indirect formulas so the cell references don't change. Which that is what I want in the end, but I need to copy them to an indefinite number of cells first and would like to not do it by hand. I have found some solutions to similar questions/problems but cannot figure out how to make them work for me. So, what I am looking to do is this... (I have also attached the spreadsheet for reference)

I have gotten the information in columns A through F on the first sheet to update as rows are added, moved, deleted on the second sheet using Indirect range. Also, I could do this for Column I (Copmleted Proj. Avg. Terminations) but I would have to do it manually (as I began doing in I3, I4 & I5) but that would be time consuming. So I am hoping there is a way I can copy the formula down the cells are updated for the initial copy but then don't update if the referenced cells are moved or deleted.

Dragging Formula Horizontally While Referencing Vertical?

Oct 21, 2012

Im working on a financial forecast in ecxel and I'm trying to drag a formula from left to right, while referencing horizontal cells from a different tab:

Specifically, I have created a "loan schedule" which shows 12 monthly interest payments starting in cell B46 and ending in cell B57.

In a separate tab labelled "Balance Sheet", I would like to show the first interest payment ('loan schedule'!B46) in cell C28. Next, I would like to select the cell and drag it to the right so that the remaining 11 interest payments will be transferred into D29, E29, F29 etc. Unfortunately,the spreadsheet doesn't reference to the vertically listed interest payments from the loan schedule but instead references the cell to the right of the interest payment. Using "$" seems to be of no support.
