Creating Single List With No Blanks From Multiple Columns?
May 2, 2014
I typically use the following formula to create a list with no blanks, when I have a single column of data. Is there a way to do the same thing when you have multiple columns of data (side by side to make it simple) and you want to create a master list that gets rid of the blanks, and keeps them in the order they appear (by column)?
[Code] .....
For example, if I had data (with some blank cells randomly placed) in columns AM and AN, and I wanted a singe master list in one column of all non-blank cells in column AL, followed by column AM, etc.? Is there a formula to do this, or must I resort to a macro?

I have 6 worksheets in my file. In sheets 1-5, column A2:A26 list people's names. Some people's names appears on more than one sheet. Not all cells are populated with a value.
ex.
SHEET1
COLUMNA
Bill
[Code]....
My attempt was... =INDEX('Week1:Week5-!$A$2:$A$26,MATCH(0,COUNTIF($A$1:A1,"Week1:Week5"!$A$2:$A$26),0))
where the sheets were Week1-Week5 and the values on each sheet was A2:A26. But I think there's an issue with Excel being able to 3D reference for these types of functions.

I have a long list of 2 columns containing data as follows:
country1 date1-1
country1 date1-2
country1 date1-3
country2 date2-1
country2 date2-2
country3 date3-1
country4 date4-1
country4 date4-2
country4 date4-3
which I would need to move to get one column per country with the top cell the country name and below each name all the related dates, e.g.
country1 country2 country3 country4
date1-1 date2-1 date3-1 date4-1 etc.
date2-1 date2-2
date3-1
I have searched and found almost similar questions and tried to apply it to this case, but not being versed in VBA it was a failure on my part

I'd like to create, in a single cell, what we call a "geochemical signature".
I have data that looks like this....
AreaID, Cu, Au, Pb, Zn, Sb
2, 5.1, .1, 0, 2.2, .2
3, 0, 0, .1, .2, 0
And I'd like to add a column onto the end of the table that returns a value like this...
AreaID, Cu, Au, Pb, Zn, Sb, Signature
2, 5.1, .1, 0, 2.2, .2, Cu Zn (Sb Au)
3, 0, 0, .1, .2, 0, (Zn Pb)
Such that a single cell has an ordered (ranked) list of the elements that relate to that AreaID. Also, any element with a value < 1 is returned in brackets, and elements that have a value of 0 are ignored.

I found this code on Ozgrid to sort all columns of a worksheet that were continuous with no gaps or spaces that works well:
Sub CopyToA()
Do While ActiveCell <> ""
Range(ActiveCell, ActiveCell.End(xlDown)).Cut Destination:=Range("a65535").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select
Loop
End Sub
However, I've tried to manipulate the code myself to 1) find all columns that aren't empty then 2) sort each column individually (WITHOUT expanding the sort to other columns) and 3) combining all the numbers into one seperate column. There are many posts concerning sorting but not one that addressed this particular situation.

I have a My.xlsx file that has data for single month and I want to make a single file in which I can have contents for whole year by copying this file 11 more times in the same excel work book. Finally I would have 12 sheet in a single workbook.
E.g. Jan-14, Feb-14, .... ,Dec-14
I don't need any calender data just 11 more copies of my original sheet in a single work book.

I'm creating a spreadsheet to keep track of my costs of production in an online game. Within the game there are a range of spawned resources that appear for only a short time before being unobtainable these resources have specific types that is shared between multiple spawns of the resource but each resource spawn has a unique name.
My first worksheet lists all the resources and their various qualities and the later worksheets are meant to allow me to choose from a list resources matching the requirements of the item I'm looking to craft. The example i have shown in the second picture requires Tatooinian Fiberplast and Lokian Wild Wheat to craft so in the Chosen Resource column I would like to have a drop down list allowing me to select the named resource type i would like to use - for Tatooinian Fiberplast the only thing on the list should be Omnitwixi and for the Wild Wheat it should show Fizi and Krad

combining multiple rows of related data into one row but have not seen one that matches my situation. My experience level with excel only includes some basics like vlookup, match and recorded macros, although I have used vba code for a macro that met my needs. I have a parts list for a PCB that has many different parts. Some of the parts are used multiple times across different reference designations("Reference" column in the file). I have shown a desired format and the original format below. Since the item number has blanks across the reference designators I haven't found a solution that would work for me.
Desired output:
Item
Quantity

Certification and Training tracking.xlsx
I want to create a certification only list on a separate tab of training that has been completed where a certification has been issued (as indicated by a "Y" in the "Certification?" column on the training tracking tab) and then populate from some of the fields vs. all of the fields.
What I have now, only pulls the first occurence, not all occurences. I saw that I could have identified the multiple columns that needed to be populated, but it didn't work either, so I'm fine putting a separate vlookup in each column.

I am looking to split multiple different entries in a single cell into multiple columns and repeat this for all rows
Example (I have the below in a single Cell as column headers)
NCM Server Mgmt VLAN Site ID
Next Line down is the data (Each row in a single cell)
Enabled 10.10.10.0 50 TEST SITE 1
Enabled 10.10.20.0 50 TEST SITE 2
Disabled 10.10.30.0 50 TEST SITE 3
How I could achieve this as I have a number of projects where this would become useful
I know you can use delimiters but with spaces between the values I just can't fathom a way forward.

I have a list of approx 600 locations with codes that I want to populate into individual worksheets.
For example, the list (in excel) has the following
NEW YORK 12345 WW012
NEW JERSEY 23456 WW013
PENN 34567 WW014
(Each field is in it's own column)
The other worksheet is a template where the Site Name, codes would be placed is specific locations, one site per worksheet.
Is there a macro that can create one sheet per site with the proper information?

We use excel for scheduling purposes and each and every day we fill out a floor chart with who is working that day. As it stands now we have to print out a template and hand write all names or type them in and print it out. What I would like to try and do is define each set of names and allow for easy access to auto fill these names. I feel it needs to be a simple process as not all of our managers experienced in excel or formulas. What I would like to try an accomplish is in sheet 1 cell A1 to be able to create a drop list or formula that that would let me return all the names for a given day.
For the purposes of this discussion we can just define each list as the day that is the header ( IE A2:A4 on sheet 2 would be defined as "monday". Also, I already have the names autofilled based off of what the our schedule has. I'm curious if I could create a drop down list with each day of the week as an option, and if they select Tuesday it will then return all the names defined as Tuesday in a column below. And the next day be able to return Wednesday names and so on.
I'm not stuck on it being a drop down list. Maybe if they could just type and =(defined name) in the box above and it would return all the names.
I have tried an =(defined name) and it does return the value but only for the first cell and it has to be in the same row for it to return the name. Which doesn't work because I would like the names that are being defined on a separate sheet.

I have a single list of data that I am trying to convert into multiple lists. Here is a sample of what I have:
COL-A COL-B
1 Animals
2 Dogs
3 Bulldogs
4 Missy
4 Rex
4 Fred
3 Terriers...............
Hard to describe, but the 1 should have the 2's under it. Each 2 should have the 3's. Each 3 should have the 4's, etc... I am not sure how to put tables into this so I will try to draw a few.
COL-A
Animals
Dogs
Cats
COL-B
Dogs
Bulldogs
Terriers
Dalmations..................
The order of the columns do not matter. If anyone has any ideas how I could do this that would be great. The data is on seperate sheets. I would love to be able to do it with INDEX and MATCH
criteria, but a VBA solution would be acceptable.

I am trying to get the data that is produced on 15 sheets copied into column A as a continuous list (concatenated?) in a sheet called "Keywords". I have tabs labeled Output-1 through to Output-15 comprising of column A in each ( No headers ). Each tab/column will have similar data but of variable size, some may even have no data at all. (the data is updated/pulled into each column using a different formula on each row)

I am trying to create a list of residents, unit types, and unit numbers. I have 3 problems with the following code.
1) The code ignores sheets that have no value in the specified cell. I need it to return a blank cell for those in order to keep the data in each column matched with the sheet it came from.
2) The code includes data from hidden sheets. I only want to list data from unhidden sheets. And more specifically, I want to omit data from unhidden sheets that have their tab colored black.
3) The code includes data from the sheet named "Totals" which I thought I was telling it to ignore.

My starting point is a big data set that needed to be validated by several users. I split the data set into smaller sets that were sent out. All users have filled in the same column called "Input"
What I would like to be able to do is to paste their input into a single column on my original data set and keep the name of the input next to it. Is it possible to paste without overlapping prexisting data ? Something of the likes of F5 ("Select blank cells/text") ?
I've attached a simple file with dummy data to explain myself.

I have a very large sheet of all US zip codes by county name. Unfortunately, the document builder decided to list up to EIGHTEEN columns of zip codes per county name... I assume to make it easier to look at.
I now need to rebuild the sheet to have one column of county names and *one* column of zip codes, which will be a nearly impossible task if I don't find a way to automate the conversion.
Attached is a sample... sheet 1 is my initial state (except here its 5 columns rather than 18), and sheet 2 is my hoped for end state. Notice that the zip codes can, but don't always, fill every column allotted.

How can you move data from multiple columns into a single column? I have attached a short example of the data I receive. (In reality, the data could be hundreds of columns and/or hundreds of rows, but this is representative of what I might receive). It does not need to be sorted and including the header row in its own column is optional. I do not know VBA all that well but can muddle through it if someone can give me an example of what the code should look like.

I have Folder with almost 21 or 22 Excel files depending on the working days in a month,
All I am trying to do is to run a Macro so that Column C and D from Sheet Name "Resource Count" from all Workbooks of Different Names from all the files from that folder to be copied and pasted to a new Workbook one after the other in new workbook.
To clarify, Each workbook in that folder will have a sheet named "Resource Count" and I want to copy Column C and Column D from all the workbooks from the folder and paste one after other in a new work book.

Current Data:
File 1:
Each set of data is listed in either two or three rows
Eg.,
ID
Date
Filename
ID
Date
ID
Date
Filename
The goal is to move them to separate columns (rows can be 3 or 2 for each data set, and may or may not be separated by space/additional row)
File 2:
Has a common field 'ID' as that of File1, does not have Date, and Filename, but has a new field 'Detail' (already in the expected format)
Eg.
ID Detail
The goal is to merge properly formatted data from File 1 to File 2
Eg
ID Date Filename Detail

in moving data from multiple columns to a single column. I have attached a sample image from an excel file which details the requirement. The first column contains a qualifier, that should remain constant when the data from columns B to the end move to a single column "B". The number of columns for each row is different, however, there is a maximum number, say 25. As mentioned in the image, when the data from columns B to the end is moved in to column B, column A is retained fixed, to the original value, and the original data below it is pushed below. Any pointers to how this can be achieved by VBA or without VBA?

I am working on putting together a very large spreadsheet covering multiple data sets over multiple states/years. I am trying to convert the data that I have in one spreadsheet (that is arranged like the example below) and make it so that I can paste the data into another spreadsheet as one single row: i.e, 1,651 would follow in the column to the right in the same row as 6.4 and so on. Right now I am having to copy and paste row by row and it is going to take me years.

I have 300 rows worth of data that looks similar to this, all organized in one column:
John Q. Smith
Programmer
2111 NW 13th St
Anywhereville, USA, 55555
(555) 555-5555
Joe P. Snider
Organizer
5645 NW 45th St

(555) 555-5555
Patty Williams
Accountant
6454 NW 34th St
Anywhereville, USA, 55555
(555) 555-5555
As you can see it is consistent with the name, position, address line 1, address line 2, Phone number, for every single entry. All my names are already alphabetized so I don't have to worry about it. What I want to do is have the information for each entry translated into 5 separate columns so it looks like this.
John Q. Smith Programmer 2111 NW 13th St Anywhereville, USA, 55555 (555) 555-5555
Joe P. Small Organizer 5645 NW 45th St Anywhereville, USA, 55555 (555) 555-5555

Supposing I started the sheet in the top left corner at A1, I was just going to have cell B1=A1 then Cell B2=A6 then just autofill down column B but it doesn't work. I have seen some people do something similar to what I want with VBA but I am convinced there has to be something simple in with an excel formula seeing as my information is already so organized and consistent.

I have a spreadsheet with multiple columns. The first column defines a "route", and the next two list "start" and "end" cities for that route. The fourth column lists the length of each route. There are only a limited number of cities, so the same entries appear in both "start" and "end" several times. I would like to use Autofilter to sort the list for every appearance of a given entry in either "start" or "end". Is there a way to make Autofilter sort mutiple columns simultaneously?
I could achieve the desired end result with Advanced Filter, but I want something with the ease-of-use and immediate update/response of Autofilter. Advanced Filter requires explanation (as well as lots of clicking and typing) whereas Autofilter is self-evident. I also want to avoid VBA Macros as they are not well-understood by the users who will use this spreadsheet (and any VBA Macro will require very specific input to work properly.) Is it possible to do what I want? Or is Advanced Filter / VBA the only way to do it?

I saw this thread from June Cut & Paste Macro: Move Address From Column To Row and I think this what I would like to have my macro do. I have one column which is copied and pasted as text in excel and there is several blank rows.
I attached the spreadsheet example - it has 40 lenders, with the top row being the lender name (A1), followed by address(A2), city-state (A3), two blank rows(A4-A5), lender type (A6), approved date (A7), one blank row (A8), lender specialty (A9), telephone (A10) , e-mail address(A11) and two blanks rows (A12-A13) and A14 starts over again. For this example there should be 8 columns and 40 rows (lender name, address, etc...). As I mentioned I think the previous thread's macro would work with some minor tweaks. I couldn't figure out the best way to handle the blank rows and or remove the blanks and what to add or take out of the macro code.
