Add Two Numbers And Divide The Result By Another Number
Oct 5, 2007I have a simple formula that adds two numbers and divide the result by another number
K1: SUM(E1,F1) / H1
K2: SUM(E2,F2) / H2
K3: SUM(E3,F3) / H3
K4: SUM(E4,F4) / H4
K5: SUM(E5,F5) / H5
etc, etc
and then I average the results
AVERAGE(K1:K5)
etc, etc
When H1, H2, H3, etc is 0, it generates a #DIV/0! (since you cannot divide by 0)
I want a formula that I everytime a H1, H2, H3, etc is 0, I want to set it to a specific number H1, H2, H3, etc to 15.00
For example:
IF (H1 = 0, 15.00, sum(E1,F1) / H1)
If the number provided (H1) is 0, set it to 15.00, otherwise add the two numbers (E1, F1), and divide this result by the number provided (H1)
But this is where the problem is:
In every single cell that I have NOT yet provided information, it treats the BLANK cells as if it was 0, and has set every single cell to 15.00.

However the information is not added to the cell until the end of the week so week 30-52 all have 0s and should not be counted in the dividing number. Is there a way to have Excel count the number of cells that have a number (not 0) and divide the sum of the cells but that number.
=(WK1!J9+.....WK52!J9) / (counted number of cells not = 0)

Jul 6, 2009Ive attached a spreadsheet showing what im trying to achieve. basically i have a scheduling objective, in which only a few slots (AA, BB, CC) are available. so the starting availability is fixed. for this example assume the starting values are 6,7, and 8 respectively. as 'bookings' are entered, im using the value of -1 against A, B, or C respectively, to indicate that AA, BB, or CC should be decreased by 1 unit of availability.
im trying to incorporate the subtraction within a pivot table. as you can see i am way off. the hypothetical formula logic that im trying to implement within the PivotTable would look something like this:
for A,B or C, sum all (-1) values for each instance of Date and Stage... this will give total bookings
add this total value to the starting values of AA, BB, CC respectively to get the new availability

Feb 14, 2014I created a pivot table, but having a bit of difficulty. Here is what it tells me to do....
"...pivot tablet that calculates the number and average salaries by position."
I had no problem included in the table the average salaries by position, however I can't figure out how to calculate the number as well. It's apparently supposed to be another column since the instructions tell me to change the label above 'count' to 'number'.

Dec 5, 2009Whenever I make one with numbers, I get formatting for a number as below
1234567.78(no commas and 2 decimal places)
I normally want the formatting as 1,234,568 (comma inserted, no decimals,), (the last digit is changed just becasue of round off, other wise number in both cases is same).
Now I can double click the field, goto number--> number and then apply this formatting.
My question is whether there is a setting in excel somewhere so that this formatting will come as default (after I create the pivot table each time)?

Sum And Divide Three Different Sets Of Numbers To Get One Answer
Dec 16, 2013I have three different sets of numbers on a r12m that I have to add and divide by different numbers and not quite sure I have the formula right as when I do it manually on a calculator it comes out different.
The formula I have put together is
=sum(O4:z4)/10)+(sum(o5:z5)/200)+(sum(06:z6)/1000)
This is the three rows of data

Using the formula above the result is 0.81 but if I do it manually on a calculator it is 1.6 (by doing each line individually and adding results)

I have a database, column A holds names, and column B their phone numbers. I'd like to generate a list of unique names and their associated telephone numbers. I figure I can use a pivot table to do this.
But I do not quite understand how to format the pivot table to put the name in one column and the phone number in the next. I will use this pivot table as a vlookup range. I assume I can do this.

The data sheet that I am creating my Pivot Table from will always have a different number of rows from week to week, but I am unsure of how to code this into my macro. When I recorded this, I used the range A1:S10000, which gives me (Blank) as the last row in my pivot table. change my code so that it only selects the data rows to stop these blanks appearing?

Jul 9, 2008I am wondering if it is possible to create a formula in a cell that will divide whatever number is entered into that cell by a set or fixed number.
ie. I enter the number 9 in the cell and when I press enter, the 9 is instantly divided by 15 and the answer is displayed in the cell where I just typed the 9.

A1 = 50-55
A2 = 45-67

The left hand side numbers represent a score a minus sign (-) to separate and the right hand side represent another score. I want a formula that I can add, subtract, divide, average, etc, etc these numbers.
If I want to add the left hand scores, for example, cells A1 to A3, sum would be 151 (50 + 45 + 56).

Feb 3, 2014I have been using Excel to display, sort and present data in a professional way. I have created a pivot table with two columns below. Column C indicates the start date. Column D indicates the completion date. Blank cells show live data. I need to determine the number of days. 1) That have been - completed - a) That were < 2 Days, b) >2 but less than a week, c) > than a week (all). I have used the following formulas. a) countif(D4:D61, "<3"), b) countifs(D4:D61, ">2", D4:D61, "<=8"). Easy for completed data. My problem is, how do I determine the number of days, live data that following the same queries as above. I have figured out I can use countif to count the number of blanks by - countif(D4:D61, "(blank)") but how to put it all together and what formula should I use. I am trying to use countifs or if statements but am totally lost.

Jul 18, 2014My ultimate goal is to take my spreadsheet listing a large number of events and attendees and create a graph that gives a breakdown of the distribution of events by type.
The spreadsheet looks something like this

Formatting Text To Number In A Pivot Table From A Cube
Feb 1, 2007Ive created a pivot table which looks at an Access Database in the form of a Cube. One field has numbers in, but when it comes through as a cube, it treats these numbers as text. So when I have a the rows as this field, they appear in text order, eg. 1, 10, 100, 101, 2 etc (instead of 1,2, 3, 4 etc). How can I get this field to be recognised as a number field in the pivot? (its a number field in the access database). Ive applied a sort to the data where Ive made my own custom list, but this is just a temporary fix. Can i specifiy somewhere that this field is a number and should be treated as such??

- a list of data
- a pivottable based on these data
When moving this worksheet this worksheet to another workbook, the pivot table can't refresh anymore. This throws an error message "Reference is not valid". To work around this problem I need to adapt the datasource. The same occurs if the list and the pivot table are on separate sheet, with the added strange behaviour that, when data an PT are split, it is not possible to move both sheet together.
This would not be a big issue if my problem had to be solved manually. The real problem is that I need to move the sheets from a C# program.
