Excel Keeps Removing Period From Filename?

Sep 10, 2013

I have some files with filenames like text-text-text-text.lastname.xlsm. When I go to save the file, Excel keeps removing the period between the last "-text" and "lastname". change the structured filenaming convention? So far, I've noticed that this seems to happen with .xlsm file extensions, but not with .xlsx file extensions.

Excel 2011 :: Looking For PV Formula That Accommodates Delay Period

Aug 2, 2014

My software is Excel for Mac 2011 version 14.4.3 (140616).

I am using the present value formula =PV(rate, nper, pmt, [fv], [type]), with the pmt expressed as a negative number, to determine the present value of a lump sum that would generate specific, equal, regular annual payments, exhausting itself in the process. I fill it in this way: rate is an annual rate, nper is the number of years the payments run, pmt is the annual amount paid each year, fv =0, type =1

I would like to be able to have a similar formula in Excel that would do the same thing except that it would take into account a time period where no payment is made, ie a "delay".

For example using the PV formula I know that if I have $49,019.96 invested at 1%, it will generate $10,000 per year for 5 years, leaving a net investment of 0. I would like to know the formula that would tell me how much I would need to invest at 1% to yield $10,000 per year for 5 years, again exhausting itself completely in the process, with the first $10,000 payment starting 3 years from now. I know it would be less because I would have the full amount earning interest for 3 years at 1% before any payments need to be made.

Import CSV To Excel But Filename Changes Daily

Problem I am having:

I want to import a csv file to an Excel workbook. The csv file name does not change, but the workbook which it is pasted into changes name every day (it has a filename which ends in todays date, and is updated daily).

Using the macro recorder I can get the process to work for today, but when as soon as I update the recipient files name the next day, the macro fails.

Code below:

' Sheets("MORCOM").Select
'Range("A5").Select

Run Formatting Macro For Excel Filename That Changes Daily?

Oct 6, 2011

I have an access database where I export a file into excel on a daily basis. The file is saved to a different filename daily because I have added the date to the filename. My question is I have a formatting macro spreadsheet so when I export the file in access it will run the formatting macro in excel to format the sheet appropriately. How do I get the formatting macro to recognize to run if the excel file changes on a daily basis in vba?

This is what I have in the formatting macro:

Sub Auto_Open()
'
' AutoOpen Macro
ChDir "G:SD Forecast and PlanningShortages"
Workbooks.Open Filename:= _
"G:SD Forecast and PlanningShortagesShopWorkingList10052011.xlsx"

How can I get the formatting macro to run on this file when the date changes constantly in the filename?

Excel 2007 :: Add Suffix (1) To Filename When Saving?

Aug 29, 2012

I find, when performing a 'save as', xl puts in a default filename with a suffix (1), or (2), or (3) and so on, to the existing filename, after I have opened a file from MS Outlook. I had assumed it was because there was already an existing file in the default directory, and so it was creating another version, but no other files with the same name exist in the default directory being saved to, or on the remainder of my computer, so I don't understand why this occurs.

Excel 2003 :: Time Card / Sheet For Semi-monthly Pay Period With Overtime Calculation

Nov 19, 2012

I'm working on a dynamic payroll spreadsheet that will automatically calculate the overtime worked in a week. Right now, I'm running into a snag. My issue is with the formula in Column R. Right now, as shown below, it is doing the calculation based on regular hours minus 40 to determine the OT time. The snag is very messy and it lay in this: while the row by row calculations for total overtime worked for the week is correct, the sum at the bottom is very much off. I need an accurate method to sum the hours of overtime for the given column.

Here are the guidelines for the pay periods and overtime:

1. The pay periods for the month go from the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to EOM (End of Month). This means that the pay period could end on any given day of the week. More on this in a moment.

2. A work week is defined as Sunday to Saturday.

3. Overtime is calculated based on the rule of anything over 40 hours in a given work week.

4. Holiday hours worked do not count towards the 40 hour mark in granting overtime since Holiday pay is automatically overtime.

If it were just a matter of a bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) pay period, I would simply state =IF(weekday(DATE)=7,Hours_Worked - 40,0), and tag a SUM(range) at the bottom. Unfortunately, with it being a semi-monthly (twice a month), the end of the pay period could be a Wednesday, so a reference to day of the week won't work unless the formula can dynamically determine which set of data to evaluate.

I'm completely willing to toss out the current method of determining overtime. This is the calculations sheet that references a cleanly formatted and designed time card on a tab called "Time Card", so this isn't the full workbook. In fact, once the whole thing is done, this calculation sheet will be hidden.

Columns M and N (which are formula referenced in Column P) are basic End - Start calculations and were hidden to simplify the display as well as the number of formulas displayed.

Column L (formula referenced) is a Yes/No display for if the date in question is holiday pay.

Excel 2007 :: Found Unreadable Content In Filename (XLSM)?

Feb 22, 2013

I have an excel 2007 file which contain a lot of macros. File size is 100MB. This file is not developed by myself, it's post in the webpage and let the members of the page to download on daily basis.. I've been downloading and using this file for over a year with no problem until this week.

Problem: During opening the file. There is a message box popped up, saying "Excel found unreadable content in filename.xlsm'. do you want to recover the contents of this workbook ? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes." When I click "yes", excel is trying to repair the file. Once it's done, I could see only the contents, however, all the macros are gone. When I copied this very same file and open in other notebooks, everything is working fine...

Assumption: Couple days ago, I was writing/testing macros in other workbooks and also opened this particular file. I might did something stupid which cause this problem...

During the same time, I used to have the same problem with another file. I solved it by copy and open with another PC then copy macros and paste it to the file on my notebook.

Excel 2010 :: Macro To Open XLSM File Based On Latest Date Found In Filename

Feb 11, 2013

I'm on excel 2010 and I have a small group excel files I open everyday. Most of the files are static in name and location. I've got a macro created to open those files, which works fine with workbooks.open and the file path.

There are two report files I want to incorporate into my macro of workbooks to open. The files are created weekly and the files names have the following format: "Report Name (YYYY-MM-DD).xlsm". I don't want to use the file's last modified date because older files may get edited after the more recent ones are created. The files are also not always created on the same day, so the solution needs to be flexible enough to not refer to a specific day of the week or anything.

Macro open an excel file based on the latest date found in filename.

Removing Percentage Sign On Excel Chart Axis?

So when I set the vertical axis to percantage format, it does display it as a percentage but with the "%" sign. Is there any way I could get rid of the sign? It's not necessary as the axis has already been titled accordingly. I'd hate to redo all calculations, multiply by 100 and then create new charts only to get rid of the sign...

Excel 2010 :: Automatically Sort And Removing Rows?

Dec 11, 2013

I have 5 worksheets that I currently have to add information to and cut/paste information from one to another. The initial information stays the same but I have to cut and paste it into one of the other worksheets based on wether or not we; need to decide on a job, are working on the job, lost the job, won the job or the job is complete.

I would like to create one master worksheet where the information can be entered with a drop down cell stating the status of the job (listed above). I created the master tab and linked the 5 subordinate tabs using an IF formula, but how can the subordinate tabs filter or sort the references and organize them on the top of the page rather than leaving a bunch of blank rows (because the info in these blank rows went to a different subordinate tab)? I want to enter the info in the master tab and simply change the pull down cell to change which subordinate tab the information shows up on. This should allow me to print the subordinate tabs as reports without having to manually cut and paste the info or filter it, correct?

So, my formula works, but when I copy and paste as values the pipe remains.
