Excel Won't Recognize Dates - Time
Jan 22, 2014
Attached a workbook of what I see. On column A and B there are dates with time on a "m/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss" format.
Until a while ago excel 2010 would recognize the dates and I was able to find the time difference between the 2 just by typing =B1-A1 (column C)
I think due to a Microsoft update (?) I cannot do it anymore and excel will not recognize the info?

My intentions are for Excel to recognize a series of dates as a particular week in the year. For example: 12/28/2008 thru 1/3/2009 equals Week 1, 1/4/2009 thru 1/10/09 equals Week 2.
I cannot for the life of me calculate a working formula.

I am importing from another program into Excel. Anytime I have a time in a column with a 0 in the 2nd hour place it will not add that time in. Example (05:21:32)
A1 10:20:12
A2 05:12:15
A3 10:15:12
Total= 20:35:24
How can I get excel to recognize a time in this format with a zero (05:34:23)?

I have a spreadsheet that contains a list of names/numbers/dates and I have to manually go through the list each day highlighting the row if it contains a date that is more than 48 hours old. How to accomplish this in a macro? Example:
Name.......Phone Number:......Ticket Number......Date Added
xxxx........555-555-5555...........5555555............2/12/12
xxxx........444-444-4444...........4444444............2/15/12
xxxx........123-456-7890...........1234567............2/10/12
That is the layout of the spreadsheet so I would have to manually highlight rows 2 and 4 because the date in Column D is greater than 48 hours ago. The range is A1:D25 and the cells are changed/updated daily.

I have been trying to get excel to calculate elapsed time between two dates using mostly what I've read from other elapsed time posts. But I am clearly missing a step. I'm trying to streamline my process for taxes.
I want to take a time in the format of " yy/mm/dd hhmm " example: 1
3/04/24 2245 ( note its a 24hr clock) 13/04/24 2245 would represent 2013 April the 24th at 10:45PM.
------- A --------------- B -------------------- C
13/04/24 2245 ------13/05/24 0900 ---------[display hrs elapsed] <-- currently get #name?
I have custom formatted A and B to yy/mm/dd hhmm and formatted c to [h]:mm
When you enter b-a in column c you get #name?
If its easier to have the date and time into separate columns I can give that a shot, I was just trying to make it as streamlined as possible for copy past.

how to calculate the time between two dates in years and quarters (represented in .25 increments). I would round down on the .25 increments (3 months) if not fully surpassed.

I am trying to take a report that I can run and paste the data into excel. It is basically the same as if I went to a web page, and pasted some data into excel. Technically it pastes everything into 1 cell but I am able to break it up using Text to columns. The problem is that I have been unable to get excel to recognize the data as anything other than text (I.E, numbers and numbers and dates as dates). I've tried formatting cells and removing spaces.

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet template that will find and replace all instances of a given word with a bold or highlighted version. However, I do not know how to make this process passive and automated. That is, as soon as I type certain words, they should be auto-corrected. Is there a way to set excel so it will recognize certain words and replace them? Is there a way to do this in the settings? I don't think a macro is the right answer in this case, so I put it in the general thread.

Excel 2007
Windows 8
For this project i need to analyze clusters of data. My first step is to remove all none duplicates.
I have created this formula =COUNTIF(N:N,N1)=1, this goes all the way down to =COUNTIF(N:N,N5443)=1. My plan is to remove all rows that return a "True" to delete all non-duplicates.
I'm noticing, although 90% is recognized correctly, 10% is not. Some formulas return as true, when clearly there are duplicate values. The N Column is trimmed, to correct for spaces.
What the pitfalls with countif formulas usually are in this situation?
N Column
O Column
=COUNTIF(N:N,N5441)=1
Returns False
Trim(05441)

I am trying to use the codes below to find text "xmxy" and "xmx" within a column, then try to move the cells between the texts to the right by one column. I believe that the problem for the code below is that
Cells(j, "B").Insert (xlShiftToRight)
or If Cells(i, "B").Value = "xmxy" Then has limitations. I read that when you dim a variale as integer, it only can contain value between -32,768 to 32,767 . But I have more than 32,767 rows of data. I have already set dim i,j, etc. as long, but how do you set the cells range to recognize number larger than 32,767?
Sub ShiftRightbbb()
Dim i As Long, j As Long, lastrow As Long, rowscount As Long, count As Long
lastrow = Range("b" & 65000).End(xlUp).Row
For i = 1 To lastrow
If Cells(i, "B").Value = "xmxy" Then
For j = i To lastrow
Cells(j, "B").Insert (xlShiftToRight)
If Cells(j, "C").Value = "xmx" Then GoTo Nextgroup
Next j
Nextgroup:
End If
Next i
End Sub

i have encountered a problem which happens when you write data that contain : in an excel sheet (i use excel 2010)
for instance if i enter to one of the cell 45:58 excel sees it as 01/01/1900 21:48:00 when i try to get the information by using a function i will get the wrong data for example typing in the different cell LEFT(Cell,5) will result 1.908
(i receiving the data from an outside source in this way and i need to make analysis)
i have noticed that the first 2 digits (21 in the example) are related to the number i have choosen in a 24 hour cycle for instance
24:58 will result 01/01/1900 00:58:00
26:58 will result 01/01/1900 02:58:00
48:58 will result 02/01/1900 00:58:00

(Excel 2007) The issue I'm having is that a loop statement of mine is failing to recognize that a couple values are equal. It works for the first 3 iterations of the loop, then stops recognizing. I tried copying another set of numbers in the failing one's place, and that actually worked. I can't attach anything, so I'm including a link to a detailed screen shot with some notes on it and code that I'll host on my site. Not sure how else to explain the issue, but if you take a look at the screen shot you can see the excel sheet being worked on and the vba code running. I will also include a text file of the code
Here are the links to the screen shot and text file of my code

Adm Date Adm Time Trans Date Trans Time
1/16/2014 937 1/16/2014 1045
1/1/2014 121 1/1/2014 121
1/14/2014 800 1/11/2014 735
1/30/2014 100 1/30/2014 205
1/13/2014 800 1/12/2014 1202
I would like to calculate the difference (# hours spanned from the dates shown). Unfortunately when we transfer the data the COLON is dropped from MILITARY TIME so I am having problems in the calculation. This is also made more difficult as some of the calculates span over two dates.

time variation between 2 dates including time (Exclude weekends and holidays), but include the worked time of weekend, if the end date and time falls under weekend or holiday.
Eg., A issues reported on 01Jan2014 12:00:00 PM and Resolved on 11Jan2014 12:00:00 PM
There are 3 weekends in the above mentinoned date - 5th, 6th and 11th
I can eliminate the weekends using the networkdays formula, but however in this case I need to eliminate 04th and 5th Jan (weekends), but Consider 12 hours from 11Jan2014(which is also a weekend), as the issue got resolved on Saturday afternoon, assuming for critical cases team works irrespective of holidays.

I'm trying to make a simple chart, which maps the value of an investment fund over time. I wanted to use the new 'Table' feature within Excel 2010 to format and maintain the formulae within the Table, and the 'Header' for the table contains the date, which is not at regular intervals.
If I opt not to use the Table feature, I can create a line-chart with ease, and Excel recognises that the Dates are indeed dates and plots the graph correctly. The minute I convert over to a Table, the Date headers are no longer recognised as dates, and are instead plotted as if they were text, at regular intervals.
I've tried multiplying the Date Headers by 1 to force them back to true Dates, but this still does not work. I've also changed the setting on the horizontal axis to Date axis rather than automatic, but still no joy.

I am in strange situation where I have a data with Invoice Dates. These dates are in Text. However, when I convert it into reall excel dates. For some reason the dates do not come right. convert my text dates into excel real dates. I did a lot of google search and apply these three methods but all of these gave me strange result I was not expecting. These are the methods I used and the result of each method.
Method 1 : Using Text to Column Wizard (Excel 2007)
I highlighted invoice column and went into text to column wizard. I clikced on Date button, and selected MDY format. Strangely enough, my result was day, month and year i.e. DMY which does not seem right.
Then I press Control ~ on this data as shown in second view.
Inv DateMDY09/22/1122/09/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/2011
control ~ (overview)
Inv DateMDY09/22/114080808/31/114078608/31/114078608/31/114078608/31/1140786
2nd Method - Using formula to convert text date to real dates When I used formula, I get the following result. As you can see, formula is converting text dates into different system dates than the first method.Further strange things is when I take these system dates i.e. 4283 and in 2007 excel format use "Short Date" the same system date gets converted into wrong year as shown in the second view.
Inv DateFormulaFormula Result09/22/11=DATE(MID(B2,7,2),MID(B2,1,2),MID(B2,4,2))428308/31/11=DATE(MID(B3,7,2),MID(B3,1,2),MID(B3,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B4,7,2),MID(B4,1,2),MID(B4,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B5,7,2),MID(B5,1,2),MID(B5,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B6,7,2),MID(B6,1,2),MID(B6,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B7,7,2),MID(B7,1,2),MID(B7,4,2))4261
2nd view - system dates are getting converted into 1911
Inv DateFormulaFormula Result09/22/11428322/09/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/1911
Similarly, I tried other methods or copying blanks etch but none seems to convert text dates into real (system dates).

I then want to work out the difference in minutes from then until the current time.
I have tried using mid, left and right statements to get all the individual aspects of the date, and then using concatenate and date, but couldn't suss it.

I am trying to figure a way to search for a cell that has a specific date and time range. There are several cell titles pending on the activity. I want to find a cell that has a time ** 7:30-15:30 , 15:31-17:30, 17:31-20:30. The end result is to calculate the activity between those time periods based on the data cells.
Example
If the date searched time field ** the activity ranges is 1635 I need to split the time and credit the activity time in the 730-1530 time and the rest on the 15:31-17:30 time
I have been able to do it on a single labor group based on time alone, but when I try to add the DATE to it my numbers go null. Eventually i will need to add 11 labor groups daily for weeks at a time .

I have a time column (A) that when looked in the cell only shows AM & PM times, but the cell itself (not showing) contains dates too, keeping me from be able to do a sheet wide sort of time or time frame occurrences.
Can I do some thing to sort these cells with their corresponding rows based on time only disregarding dates?
I am trying sort out all rows that in column (A) is time equal to or greater than 4:00 PM OR even maybe sort all rows that column (A) shows a time between 4:00 PM & 7:00 PM. The date in the cell is the problem, I think. Excel 2013

Is there a function or vba code that I can use in excel to convert the normal time format to epoch time?
I've got a thousand or so entries, so it would be nice to find a way to do this on a large scale.

Need to calculate how many times the difference between date in and reply date is <= 5 in a specific time period.
The start date is entered in say, “K1”
The end date is entered in say, “L1”
Also calculate difference in dates between 14 days and 21 days for time period
Also with reply in column “B” not sent until over 28 days. I have tried SUMPRODUCT with (date_in=K1)*(date_out<=L1) for the dates but unsure how to define <=5

I work at a call center and I get the data as Date, Time of calling and Duration of the call. Now since this is an overseas call center, even though the calls spills over 12midnight, the corresponding date shows as the date when the agent logged in.
So I get the data in this format, Date: 06/11/2012, Time: 19:00:00 - 04:00:00.
How do I calculate the time difference at one go without first getting the time difference from the time of login till midnight and then add that to the time difference of midnight till time of logout. I have attached a file for your review.
