Extracting Data Based On Alphanumeric Pattern?
Jul 3, 2013
I have a column of data that contains text such as 'as per A3', 'B4 requested' and 'as per F6 Mark' (these aren't cell references).
I'm trying to find a formula that will just strip out the 'A3', 'B4' and 'F6' element of the text. I've tried SEARCH with wildcards but it's not working, and can;t use the LEFT RIGHT or MID functions due to the inconsistent data.

I have a rather difficult task to accomplish. What I need is to be able to extract an alphanumeric value from the string. It is a serial number of the equipment and it is always nine alphanumeric characters long. The problem is it can be anywhere in string. Example: “2156545 36 month lease NWL023568 Nancy Clay”. The serial number I need to extract is NWL023568.

Is there a way of extracting all non alphanumeric characters from a single collumn?
After extraction, I just want strings with A to Z letters, 0 to 9 numbers, spaces and hiffens(-). All in lower case.

I've been going round in circles with this for hours and have got no-where. I 'm trying to get Excel to paste in a set pattern of data based on an input cell.
In row 1 I have months starting in cell B1. B1 = April 12, C1 = May 12, D1 = June 12, and so on
The user would enter the data in column A, starting in row 2
If the date in A2 = May 12 then Excel would enter 10 in cell C2, 20 in cell D2 and 30 in cell E2. If the date in A2 is changed to June 12, then the previous data would be cleared and Excel would enter 10 in E2, 20 in F2 and 30 in G2.
Date would be entered in A3, A4, A5 etc and I would want it to post the same fixed data depending on the date the user enters in teh relevant row.
I've tried IF statements and also some code but can't even get near it working.

I have a table with 'Product Rereference', 'Date', and 'Estimated Assets' Columns. I need to run a formula that will extract the number in my 'Estimated Assets' column, based on speicific list of 'Product Reference' numbers that I have filetered, and a specific date - 1/31/ of each year.
I've been trying to create a formula, however I can't seem to work it out.
I have attached a file, which should make things a lot clearer :P I am trying to make the data extract into the table to the right. I have filled in the first few columns manually, to show what I would like to formula to achieve.

Pre-requisite: I would consider myself to be very poor with excel, based on what I've read on this forum and found on my web-searches. I have a worksheet that has a list of data on the left going vertically, then a summary of this data going horizontally across the top. It is not arranged in such a way that transposing the data will do what I want. I am pulling the 5th word out of the title of each block of the vertical data and need to show this word on the horizontal section.
When I use this formula to pull the 5th word: =MID(MID(MID(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4),1,256), FIND("^",SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4)),256),2,FIND(" ",MID(MID(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4),1,256),FIND("^",SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4)),256))-2)
I need to increase A2 to A30, then A58 (up by 28 every time) in every instance in that formula. The fill handle increases the values by 1, instead of 28 (even if I do 3 or 4 instances manually) How do I do this? I've run into this problem in other scenarios, and there HAS to be a way to get around it.

Is there a way either by VBA or manually (preferably both, if possible) to actually unite the X amount of numbers that are in a cell given the contents is alphanumeric? I'll give you the following examples to see if you can understand what I' referring to?
DATA output should be
asd67,h876 --------> 67876
2,3,ujdj5&34 -------> 23534
909k86m34 --------> 9098634

I currently have a macro that looks at one value and copies the data to another worksheet.
I'd like to modify it to look at two different values and then copy the data. I've tried modifying the VBA code, but can't seem to get it to work. In the "ETF Report (1)" tab, i want it to look at the "ETF Report" and "PO No" values.
The Final Version tab is what i'd like the results to look like.

I import data from another program in order to evaluate it. Unfortunately, one of the fields I need contains copyright data, however, it has been very inconsistently entered into the database. For example, sometimes the data appears "c1999." or "-1999" or "" or "[1999]" or even "19?" and also sometimes "1999, 1990" and many other variations on that. I discovered the link in the excel help file about extracting numbers from alphanumeric strings, but my situation is still too variable for it to apply; that file didn't take into account that alphanumeric strings don't always lump numbers and letters together. I was able to correct a few things, but my command of excel isn't knowledgeable enough to really come up with something effective.
Some ideas I had that I don't know how to implement: is there a way to strip non-numerical characters from an alphanumeric string? (I've been doing some find/replaces to get rid of some of it, but that is obviously not very efficient when I have to repeat this process daily.) Perhaps then I could just detect the first 4 numbers of the string somehow. However, that doesn't solve the problem of when a wild card is used as in "199?" or "20?" etc.
Bottom line, I just need to grab the first four numbers that appear in the string (but NOT additional numbers that occur after a wild card or a space if the year was not completed in 4 numbers; in that case I'd just be happy with a null value).
I've been doing this with a formula so far. My only experience with macros has been in simply recording them, not actually writing them, but I'll give anything a try.

one of my suppliers can only provide me with a basic .xls product list as shown in the attached test sheet.xlsx.
Is it possible to create and run a macro from test sheet.xlsm that will extract data from test sheet.xlsx, specifically from below the heading on row 64 down to and above the heading on row 123 and paste into the (new) worksheet in test sheet.xlsm
This sheet is updated daily and all the heading rows are constantly fluctuating as products are sold and added.
I can do this manually easy enough but if there's any way that this can be automated

I have a workbook with 2 sheets.
Sheet 1 will act as a summary for sheet 2, showing only the last 5 entries from sheet 2.
Sheet 2 is based on football results of a season which will have a total of 34 league games plus cup games.
Sheet 2 has 4 columns:
Game Number Home Team Result Away Team
1 United 2-0 City
2 Sportive 4-2 Uniao
3 Real 1-0 Ateltico
4 Villa 1-3 City
5 United 2-1 Real
6 Atletico 0-0 Villa
So sheet 1 will show the last 5 results as the season progress's and new data is added.
I have been able to extract column 'GAME NUMBER' using the following formula:
=INDEX('Back end 1'!A:A,MATCH(9.99999999999999E+307,'Back end 1'!A:A)-ROWS('Back end 1'!A2:A$6)+1)
I am struggling to find a way to pull the last 5 data that is text based.
I am using Excel Mac 2011.

I have written basic macros (probably not the most efficient solution, but its what I know how to do). Up to the present point things are going well. (I tried to attach file, but without success - So I will email the file directly it is pretty easy to figure out) I have option buttons tied to macros that populate a data sheet based upon the input.
This works out quite well and I am able to generate the statistics I desire quite easily. Now comes the second phase, (this is where I am stuck) - when I click the option button "no", I would like this to generate a line item in a separate existing worksheet which lists the item number, tells the discrepancy (as written in the column on the inspection criteria sheet), has a text field for the inspector to briefly explain the exact nature of the discrepancy, and also keeps discrepancies in proper order. Conversly, if "yes" is selected, I would like to be able to check the associated comment page, search the page for that discrepancy number, and if found, delete the line item, then re-oder the page.

I have data and after doing some data manipulation it looks like this
Job #
Part #
Lot #
Total
Grand Total
[Code]..
What I'm trying to do is making a summary sheet that has only the first record with unique values using the Job number, part number, and lot number as the criteria. The grand total in the first record is the total for all of that job, part, lot so i need to bring that value over to the sheet as well. I have been able to do this easily with the duplicate finder, but need a formula to automatically do this.

I have a formula such as below..
=SUMIF('MBX TO DBS'!$G$1:$G$818,"*livedb01*")
This will sum the values in G1-G818 that contain livedb01 on the "MBX TO DBS" sheet, however this is not exactly what I want.. I want the SUM function to look for the livedb01 string in G1-G818 and SUM the values in D1-D818.
So instead it would look for livedb01 text in G column and take the value from D and SUM those once the text qualifier was found in G column..
Is this possible with Excel?

I need a formula which can sum up some value based on some especial pattern which I indicate in the table below:
ABC
12565
21001542
33850
4
5
My question: I want to sum up value from A1, B1, C1, A2, B2, C2. I also need a formula to control how much I want to add. For example, I can instruct the formula to sum A1, B1, C1 and A2 (25+65+0+100) or sum A1, B1, C1, A2, B2, and C2.

Column 1 Lists the various factories
Column 2 Lists the Machine
Column 3 Lists the Part
Column 4 Lists the result.
Results can either be "ok", "warning", "Alert" only

I have a directory folder with an active workbook and another workbook id like to copy data from. The Following macro opens up a file in the same directory, copies some data and pastes it in the active workbook. However with this code I have to specify the filename, 'Data.xlsm' in the example code. I would like it to copy data from the only other workbook in the current directory WITHOUT having to specify the name in the code, so just opening it up no matter what filename it has.
In addition I would like to extract the filename from the workbook im copying data from and paste it into the activewoorkbook in sheet 1 Cell A1. I had a look at getopenfilename function but cant seem to make it work for my purpose.

I need to automatically populate a column with an alphanumeric MFR0001 to MFR9999 and am currently using the formula below to add 1 to the start point (A1)...
A1=MFR0001
Formula in A2 =LEFT(C1,3)&(RIGHT(C1,4)+1)
This works perfectly if I start at MFR1000, but breaks and drops the 000 if I use it on the number I need to start with (MFR0001).

I have a weather graph I am putting together for fun and cannot figure out a way to bring data in for a table based on a consistent data pattern. My high temp averages are in column C along with other annual averages (High (Cell C7), annual avg. (Cell C9), low (Cell C8), precip (Cell C10) etc.) for that year, my data will go back 50 years. I am trying to find a formula that will bring the temp data into another column so I can create a graph of just the high temps or precipitation or any other measure. I have color coded the cells I am looking for.
Essentially, I am hoping that in column H, I will have a year (2014 for example) and column I will search for a match between column A and H (year), if a match is found, it will bring in data from that year for a specific category (Temp for example). OR, another option would be to to skip the cells and just pull in data from the cell (High temps would be in cell C7, C18, C29, C40 etc.) through a =C7+11 (cell count, not adding to number result) type of formula.

I want to be able to return a text string of either Trainee 1 or Trainee 2, (or default to other text) based on codes that are 4 digits (DD01, KKB1, KKB2, KKC2, GG03, etc, where starting with K and ending with 1 or 2 is the criteria for TR 1 or TR 2 . There are two many KK** items to list them all in an If statement and I can't seem to use a wildcard.
=IF (right(c1,1) = "1", "Trainee 1", B1)
gets me halfway there I think but of course doesn`t pick up Trainee 2 and also returns Trainee 1 when it sees DD01.

I need to find and match patterns of strings in a column and fetch data from the adjacent column. I've attached a sample workbook with my sample data.
How can I find the appropriate matching pattern and fetch and fill data from the adjacent column from my source table to destination? I tried the string functions available and used SEARCH function to match the pattern and check whether it is available. However, when the pattern is found, how can I fetch the adjacent column ?
My attempt to code a formula using SUBSTITUTE, MID and SEARCH functions. Below is the monster formula I wrote - it works and returns 1 when the pattern is found.
Formula:
I need to return the matching pattern that is found. And with it the corresponding adjacent cell's value.

I'm currently creating a formula to look up the date based on the alphanumeric codes, my problem is if it crosses the year, say 2011 & 2012, the lookup will be distorted because codes for jan. 1 2011 & jan. 1 2012 is the same. Our alpha numeric code is A01= Jan. 1.
to elaborate further:
wanted to get the ageing days between todays date and item manufactured date:
today: May 30 2012
when the administrator enters the manufacturing date code of "A01" I have a look up of the code that equates A01=Jan 1. which will compute the difference of May 30 2012-Jan. 1 2012 and give me the Age date of 150. Now, if I enter H1, I wanted to have it look up at the 2011 not 2012 of Aug. 1; is there a look up formula that looks up the date already past (current date below), not the future date of under the same database?
