Extracting Data From Workbooks In Single Folder Using User Made Button
Jun 28, 2014
I have the following macro in my spreadsheet to extract specific data from closed workbooks in a folder. It works great but what I would like to do is make it so I can just open the spreadsheet and press a button I create that will extract the data from the folder that it lies in.
Currently I have this specific spreadsheet just sitting by itself and I manually work out the address of where my spreadsheets lie and add that address into the code and run the macro. I find it a little cumbersome and me not knowing a hell of a lot in VBA don't know what the command is to make it pull the data from the folder that it resides in. Once I do this then I can create a button and assign the macro to it. Can change the code to be able to extract the data from all of the workbooks in the folder that the macro enabled spreadsheet lies?
I am having some 60+ workbooks in which the end-users are entering data. Each workbook is protected with different passwords.
We have the systems networked. The main compilation file is in the server D:MAIN folder. The workbooks for users are in D:Mainusers sub-folder. The files in users folder are only allowed to have access by the users.
Now, in the compilation sheet I have linked the data from all the individual files (which is in its subfolder). I am facing a trouble that the excel asks password for each and every workbook to update the links in the compilation workbook.
Any possibility to overcome this trouble? A VBA code is the solution? or any other alternative measure is there to solve?
I've got 20 spreadsheets called Week 1 to Week 20 each has two sheets called Wk 42 T and Week 42 R. They are stored in a shared area. I want to Copy all the data in Column M in both sheets and then transfer the data to a summary sheet with a sheet for each.
I've got the below code to open the workbooks but need help with selecting that data per workbook then by sheet and looping through each sheet and pasting in Column A.
Sub RunCodeOnAllXLSFiles() Dim lCount As Long Dim wbResults As Workbook Dim wbCodeBook As Workbook
i am currently doing a survey. the survey's are done in excel format and after i send out to everyone they will return me the soft copies in excel format. After which i would have many "forms" in excel format. i would like to extract all the data out from those forms into one worksheet. How is it possible ? It can either be excel formulas ? in-built functions or macro.
I have used the search function but can't seem to find a suitable solution.
I'm trying to figure the best way to extract 12 continuous months worth of data from a table and plot on a graph, each month with a separate plot on the graph (i.e. not the summed total but rather, a line graph with 12 points). The data is based on two, user-generated inputs, that are produced from a dropdown box.
I can create the Data Validation rules, use a Match formula to produce the reference for an Index formula and i have created a bunch of Named Ranges to work with and can easily generate the FIRST value to plot.
E.g. INDEX(DATA,ROW,COLUMN). After the first value, I'm stuck on how to generate the rest.
I have attached my problem for reference : Excel Problem.xlsxâ
Currently I am facing a problem that I want to copy data from sheet 2 to sheet 1.Here I am using vlookup function. But I have a problem that when there is two items of same name in sheet 1,it copies data from sheet 2 into both same items in sheet 1.How can I restrict and copy data to only 1 items. The sample data is as shown below :
I have a whole group of workbooks. Is there a way to make a new workbook that will look in the folder containing all of the other customer's books and pull information from them? In other words, I want a workbook where in Column A would contain all of the Customer's Names (Cell Info!G6), Column B would contain the Insurance Company (Cell Info!M14), etc. Is there a way to to that?
I would like to copy all data from all workbooks stored in one particular folder and paste them into a masterlist. The masterlist and all other workbooks in that folder have the same table header. How do I write VBA codes do the following tasks?
Options (1 and 2 are mutually exclusive): 1. VBA will go to that folder, open all workbooks one by one, if the data is filtered, then deactivate filtermode, and copy all the data but not the header, and paste it into masterlist and loop to the next workbook.
2. Create an inputbox in masterlist that allows user to key in Week Number. Then VBA will take the value, go to the folder and open all the workbooks one by one, apply filtering using the InputBox value, and copy the related data excluding the header into masterlist and loop to the next workbook. (*If the workbook in the folder is filtered, deactivate filter and then only filter using the InputBox value).
I have up to 50 workbooks in one folder with data in a specific range. I also have one workbook which includes additional data, including conditional formatting and dropdowns. I need to copy the desired range from the first workbook in the source folder to the second workbook, then save the latter to my destination folder, using the same name as the first. I need to repeat this process for all workbooks in the source folder.
I have a userfrom with a text box which is used to receive a telephone number from the user. The 'Event' code that checks the formatting of the telephone number is "tbCustTel_Exit". If my user enters a format other than what is acceptable for a tel number, they get an error message telling them to re-enter.
My problem is they still end up EXITING that text box they made a mistake in? How can I override them exiting the text box if they make a mistake - and keep them in the text box so they can try and re-enter the tel number again?
I have around 21 excel files in a particular folder all the files column headings are same and but number of line differ from 0 to 50K. Overall all 21 files will have more then 2 Lakhs lines.
i require a code which consolidate the all 21 files in to single workbook. if first sheet in full then data should copy to next sheet, so on. I also require file name in the first column of destination file when files are being copied.
Finally after 3 days of intensive studying VBA, my first add-in pack is ready to be installed in the office. I've got my custom form all ready, now all I need is to have excel create a custom button on the toolbar that calls up my custom form when clicked.
The idea of assigning a shortcut key doesn't really appeal to me. I'll be packaging it up in .xla format. Would be greatful if anyone can direct me on how to add a button to call up my form (only one form in fact).
I have a folder which contains multiple 'Customer' workbooks (example attachment 'Customer_001'). Each workbook has a filename unique to the customer (Customer_001, Customer_002, Customer_117 etc). The workbooks contain a single sheet with customer information and answers to questions. These 'Customer' workbooks are automatically saved into a folder once the customer completes a Userform and clicks 'save'. Potentially, there could be 100's of customers' workbooks saved in the folder, each with their own unique filename.
I also have a 'Master' sheet saved in a different folder (example attachment 'Master'). The 'Master' workbook has multiple sheets named 'Department 1' and 'Department 2'. The purpose of the master sheet is to consolidate all information from the individual customers' workbooks.
Specifically, I would like a command button on the 'Master' workbook to execute the following tasks...
1. Copy the data from range A3:F3 from each of the 'Customer' workbooks held in the folder. 2. Paste the data into the next blank row on the 'Department 1' sheet in the 'Master' workbook.
3. Copy the data from range A7:F7 from each of the 'Customer' workbooks held in the folder. 4. Paste the data into the next blank row on the 'Department 2' sheet in the 'Master' workbook.
5. Save the 'Master' workbook. 6. Delete all 'Customer' workbooks in the folder.
I have a fairly straightforward UserForm with 4 listboxes and 4 option textboxes (the textboxes do not need to be a part of the validation I'm needing). I then have a command button that I want to be enabled ONLY if ANY of the 4 Listboxes have a selection. I've tried the "Change" event code below and it works upon the first selection of any listbox item.
However, if the user de-selects all selections in the listboxes (i.e. they are all unchecked), the command button remains enabled. I need the validation logic to enable/disable the button to persist as long as the user has the form open and if there is not a selection in ANY of the listboxes. The reason being is that if they click the command button it will update the cells in the worksheet, which if empty may overwrite previous work completed with blank cells.
I need to import the data from a specific sheet (same named sheet on all closed workbooks) to a sheet in an open workbook. All the columns are identical in every workbook but the number of rows is variable, so the data from each subsequent workbook must be appended to the end of the current data.
Whenever a button is pressed, this macro will clear the sheet, then import the data starting in A3. The workbooks are in different folders but they all have the same name, so some sort of explorer window will probably be needed to actually select each file.
I want to control what a user enters into a single cell based on others.E.g.
A B 1 20 500 2 50 500 3 75 500 4 100 300
Column A is a thickness and column b is a width what I want to happen if the user enters a thickness in cell D1 and a width in cell D2 I want an error to pop up if for instance the user enters 100 as a thickness to only allow a maximum of 300 in the width. likewise if the user enters a thickness less than 100 in cell D1 to allow him to enter up to 500.
Macro for a repetitive task. I have data in every 3rd column (max of 11 columns) that I want to extract and append the data in column A in sheet 2. The data contains some blank cells and I'd like to remove them also.
I've attached an example in this workbook : tractdata.xlsx
I've got a host of files within a host of directories, e.g:
c:ContractsJim BobJim Bob Site.xls c:ContractsJane JonesJane Jones Place.xls c:ContractsJeremy HillsHills House Lvl 1.xls
I'm working in VBA to try to extract the site name from the file string. Unfortunately there is no other reliable location where I can find an accurate name of the site, so it needs to be taken from the second subdirectory. So I'm using the following code to get the file location:
Sub FilePicker(fileToOpen As String) ChDrive "C:" ChDir "C:Contracts" fileToOpen = Application. GetOpenFilename(FileFilter:="PPM Files (*.xls),_ *.xls", Title:="Select a PPM Scope File", MultiSelect:=False) End Sub
This returns a string along the lines of "c:ContractsJeremy HillsHills House Lvl 1.xls". From this string, I need to isolate the string "Jeremy Hills".
I would like to use VBA to search a folder and copy data from tabs within the excel files there. The data will be pasted to a tab of same name in the the main file. All the files are in the same format.
So far I have only managed to list the files in the folder using code I found on your site!
I have a set of workbooks, with multiple sheets within each which I receive each month from field units. The formats are identical.
What I want to do is to extract data from one column on one specific sheet within each workbook to a summary sheet on a new workbook. In the snapshot below, I would like to collect data from the "Actual" column (in yellow) and then paste it on a summary sheet.
Monthly reportingEntity 13. Risk reportingJanuaryMarket Risks - LoansJanuaryTargetActualVarNumber of competitors 110%Market share 1%1%0%Ranking in market 110%Concentration of portfolio region-wise (number)1%1%0%Concentration of portfolio region-wise (value)1%1%0%Market growth rate 1%1%0%Inflation rate 1%1%0%
This would appear in a new summary worksheet as below: (the cell labelled "Entity 1" would then appear as the column header in the summary sheet.)
Monthly reporting - summary sheet3. Risk reportingTarget rangeEntity 1Entity 2Entity 3Market Risks - LoansActualActualActualNumber of competitors 1Market share 1%Ranking in market 1Concentration of portfolio region-wise (number)1%Concentration of portfolio region-wise (value)1%Market growth rate 1%Inflation rate 1%
The steps I imagine are: 1. Open all workbooks in a specified folder (folder name upon prompt) 2. Search each workbook for a sheet titled "Risk Reporting" 3. Copy the specified cell (for the column header) and the specified column into a new sheet in a new workbook 4. Move on to fill up the next column, and so on ...
Also is there a way to order the copying so that the columns always line up in a specified order? (e.g. Entity 1, followed by 2, followed by 3 ...). One way I guess is to fix the column headers in my summary sheet, and then fetch the data from the corresponding worksheet, by matching the names.
I have a directory folder with an active workbook and another workbook id like to copy data from. The Following macro opens up a file in the same directory, copies some data and pastes it in the active workbook. However with this code I have to specify the filename, 'Data.xlsm' in the example code. I would like it to copy data from the only other workbook in the current directory WITHOUT having to specify the name in the code, so just opening it up no matter what filename it has.
In addition I would like to extract the filename from the workbook im copying data from and paste it into the activewoorkbook in sheet 1 Cell A1. I had a look at getopenfilename function but cant seem to make it work for my purpose.
Is there a way to use a for next loop to open a workbook that is in a folder, then save and close the workbook then open the next workbook in the folder and do the same routine till all the workbooks have been updated?
