Find If Named Range Exists In Sheet Using VBA
Nov 17, 2011
How can i find if a named range exists in a sheet using VBA?
E.g.: I have a named range called test that houses 4 numbers in four cells. Using
Code:
Dim rtest As Range
Set rtest = Worksheets("sheet1").Range("test")
.
.
.
.
rFoundCell = _
Cells.Find(What:=rtest, After:=Range("a1"), LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlWhole, SearchOrder:= _
xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False)
Won't work. Run - time error 91 occurs.

Is there a way to check if a named range exists before I run a piece of code? I created a new file that has need for all the old file's ranges plus a couple more, and I want to use the same macro for both. So on the first file I just want to say, if these other named ranges are there, go ahead and do his other thing.

I'm trying to check if a named range "ActiveCells" exists before deleting it in VBA but can't seem to get the syntax right, I have tried: If Range("Activecells") Is Nothing Then Resume Next Else: ActiveWorkbook.Names("ActiveCells").Delete
AND
If ActiveWorkbook.Names("Activecells") Is Nothing Then Resume Next Else: ActiveWorkbook.Names("ActiveCells").Delete
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have tried searching but I can only find threads about checking for named objects or about using the toolbars to add/delete named ranges.

I need method, using a button, that looks at a cell--say EO2, for example--, looks back on a master worksheet at a specified row and range for a match, then looks at the information from a specified range below the matching cell (The information in this column will either be blank or have an "X" in the cell), and then those rows that do not have an "X" will be hidden in the corresponding rows in the working worksheet. Therefore, if at any time the value in "EO2" ever changes, then it will automatically find a new match and repopulate and hide information as before. About 130 columns will have its own button so that a "query" can be made that depends on the information in a particular cell in that column.
The master worksheet now has matrix of 287 rows and 58 columns. Each row is for an operating procedure and each column shows a job code. An "X" in a coordinate cell for a column/row shows whether that job code is responsible for knowing that operating procedure. So, on the working sheet, an employee's primary job code is given underneath his or her name. When the button is pushed, all the operating procedures not required for a given person will be hidden and only the required ones will remain visible--grouped, if you will. Qualification dates will be easier to see now that the information is consolidated. Whenever someone transfers to a new position, a new code will be inputed on the working sheet. When the button is pushed, a new grouping will result. Any operating instructions that overlap will still have qualification dates, so that information will not need to be transcribed.

How to see if a SeriesCollection that has been named exists so when the corresponding toggle button it clicked it turns on or off the correct corresponding dataseries.
When I create a series I use something like:
[Code] ............
Where the range "tblJim[Quizes]" contains the quiz scores which are the data series pointes and "=Data!$C$6:$C$35" has the respective dates.
When that toggle button is clicked I need to test if the SeriesCollection "Jim" exists so if it does I can delete it and if not, create it.
Also, as much as I hate to multi-subject but usually do anyway, I am wondering if there is good example of doing the same ends by a different strategy - a chart with everyone on it and by applying data filters to the dataset I would turn on and off people's data.

In VBA, does anyone know how I can find the beginning and end of a named range?
eg: Range "CellsToTotal" is A1:A10, if I know only the name of the range, can I retrieve both A1 and A10 values?
What I have done is named a range on the fly as so (where vStartCellCoordinates and vEndCellCoordinates are both variables holding 2 ints):
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="CellsToTotal", RefersTo:="=" & Cells(vStartCellCoordinates(1), vEndCellCoordinates(2)).Address
What i'd like to do is then set a third arbitrary cell to sum up the range as a formula (note the following is a wierd adapted pseudocode thing):
Cells(iRow, iCol).Value = "=sum(" & start(Range("CellsToTotal").Address(0, 0) & ":" & end(Range("CellsToTotal").Address(0, 0) & ")"
How can I make this work?

Is it possible to use Match to find a value within a Named range and then, based on that value, use Match and Index again to find a value two columns across?
I have a list of clients in Column A, with 10 cells between each. In Column B, I have a list of currencies (the same currencies next to each client) and in Column C the rate this client pays for this currency. I want to reference these rates from an external workbook. Is there any way to use Match to locate the client name, then use Index/Match to locate the rate for a particular currency, somehow telling Excel where to look the second time?

I am trying to use a named range on a different sheet in the same workbook to which the named range is on.
I have a named range on sheet2 called "Letters" and comprises of cells D20-D25 .
I am trying to call this range on Sheet1 at A1-A6 , so in A1 to A6 I simply have "=Letters" (No quote marks) , but I simply get "#VALUE!" (No Quote Marks), If I then extend the selected cell down to A25 the "Letters" will appear in A20-A25
whereas if I put the same "=Letters" in Sheet1 cell A20-A25 I will get the correct named range.
How can I get the range to show in Sheet 1 Cell A1-A6.
I want to reproduce a named range at a different location on a different sheet in the same workbook.

I have four named ranges (Segment, Keyword, Impressions and Dropdown) and I would like to create a formula-based ranking of keywords by impressions and clicks. Using the following array formula, I am able to return the correct values for impressions or clicks:
{=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} where $H7 is the number ranking 1, 2, 3 etc.
My question is what array formula could be used to find which row in the array returned that number and then pulls the data from the same row in the other named ranges?
Essentially find row of {=LARGE(IF(Segment=DropDown,Impressions),$H7)} but return Keyword and Clicks on that row.
Other Notes: I cannot use pivot tables and some values might be the same which would make Vlookups not accurate for duplicate values.
Link to an example document to clarify this. [URL] .......

I have a namd sheet for everyday of the year in a workbook, so jan1 jan2 jan3 etc. I have a stats page which brings together certain pertinent data from those pages, so a formula on the stats page might look like this =sum('jan1'!$m$25:$m$900). What I would like to do is to name each day - jan1 jan2 etc as a named range perhaps date1 date2 etc so that the above formula would then look like =sum(date1!$m$25:$m$900).

I just named a range on a sheet and would like to paste that range on a different worksheet within the same workbook. I can't figure out how to refer to the range. I've tried several different variations so far. Example below:
ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Names.Add Name:="RawSectorData", RefersToR1C1:="=R6C1:R29C11"
'Add new sheet and paste data
ActiveSheet.Name = "Raw_data_Sector_Summary"
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets.Add.Name = "RawData"
Range("A1").Formula = "=RawData!(RawSectorData)"

I have a named range on one sheet, and I want to show this as a reference on other sheets. I thought this would be simple, but maybe it's just not the way named ranges are used.
Attached is a sample spreadsheet. First tab shows the table defined; in practice it would be much larger. Second tab shows how I want it to appear. I see that I can do this by copying each cell reference. But what would be nice is to simply say "Put the named range block of cells right here."

I have a challenge I'm trying to surmount. I have an excel sheet in which I want to be able to select Zone codes from a drop down, click on a link "search" which takes me to a place in the document that has been named according to the Zone code i pick in the drop-down. I want to achieve this using only formulas as i'm distributing the file to a wide audience who are not versed enough with computers to know how to enable macros.

is there a way to have the same named range cover a range of cells regardless of which sheet you are on? They seem to want to default to the page you are on. I want to make some VBA subroutines that will go over each sheet, and perform the same functions on each sheet. All sheets have the same format, but different data. I guess worst case scenario I can just break down and use multiple workbooks, but this seems a little less desirable. Should I be dividing this into seperate posts?

Let's say you have a named range, Rng1, which consists of cells A1 & A2. In vba how would you report back what, if any, named range the following cells resides:

here are multiple named ranges so using intersect is not feasible. Essentially, through code, I will be given a range and I need to determine if that range if part of a named range.

Dim createsheet As Integer
createsheet = MsgBox("Do you want to Create a Sheet for Uncontrolled Discharge?" & vbNewLine & "NOTE: if the sheet already exists, you cannot create a sheet with the same date - select NO", vbYesNo, "Caution")
[Code] ...
ErrorHandler:
MsgBox "There is already a Sheet Created for that Date.", vbCritical
End If
Right now...it will pop up the error message but it will still create a "template" sheet with the suffix (2), (3), etc... instead of canceling the create new worksheet operation.

I want to do is add data into Sheet A each day then press a button which will copy the data in a range and paste it into Sheet B, but I want to create a list of all data so I need it to find the next empty cell and start the paste from there (if that makes sense).
I want it to create a data base on one sheet from a daily import, I have a code to copy one cell to next empty cell but dont know how to duplicate it to a range.
I hope I have given you enough info this is what I have done so far
Public Sub CopyData()
Dim ws As Worksheet, bi As Byte, vData(1 To 1)
Set ws = Sheets("A")
For bi = 1 To 1
vData(bi) = Application.Choose(bi, ws.Range("A1"))

I'm trying to make my named ranges remember the values of the last active cells used within another named range. The purpose of this is to make my charts dynamically change dependant on two criteria selected. My spreadsheet currently updates itself as and when I change the active cell within a single named range, dynamically changing the chart data by using Lookup based on the active cells value. However I want to get away from having several charts showing, I would like to have a single chart which dynamically changes based on a second selection. So the first selection is for a department (Facility) which changes the chart data relevant to that department, the second selection is to dynamically change the chart shown for the pre selected department.
Picture2.jpg
Using the following code when updating just one criteria with several charts
VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Application.Intersect(ActiveCell, [MeasureType]) Is Nothing Then
[valMeasurePicked] = ActiveCell.Value [code].....
which works fine but I'm not sure how to add a second selection criteria because my code uses Activecell. I thought that the VBA needed to set the last used value of a range as a variable and therefore allow the second criteria to be selected but am not sure how to put it into practice.

Merge two columns into one list in excel
I would like to combine List1 and List2 into a 3rd named range called List3. I was wondering if this were possible without using any additional cells/columns (i.e. I don't want to use Column C like in the example shown in the link above).
Here's the formula from the example:
Code:
=IFERROR(INDEX(List1,ROWS(C1:$C$1)),IFERROR(INDEX(List2,ROWS(C1:$C$1)-ROWS(List1)),""))
I've played around with it, but could not come with any that worked.

In this table, if Range("A1") contains abc, then data in Range("f1") would be compared against Range("J1"). If F1 = J1, then Range("L1") would say "ok" otherwise "needs to check" as in Rows 2.
Please note that the amount of data varies daily.
