Finding And Returning Unique Text From Incomplete Table?

I am building a table that assigns three roles to chores: Accountable, Helper1, and Helper2. I have a "user interface" tab, where there is a dropdown list where particular chores can be selected. I am looking to have the people in each role for the selected chore returned into the cells. I have attached an example file to clarification. For example, I am looking to have the name (Mike, Shannon, Tom, Blake, Kelsey, Sam) from tab #2 populated into the related cells C3, D3, and E3 on tab#1. I think it's possible with a long imbedded IF function, but I am looking for a more simple solution if possible.
I have a spreadsheet with some calculations and the part i am interested in is data in R4 : V58
In this R4:R58, S4:S58 and T4:T58 have some rows that have False because of IF calculations that put False in some rows of R and hence in S and Hence in T.
For example, R15="FALSE" so will S15 and T15 be. Col U is based on whether the corresponding row in R is False or a number. If a Rown in R is false, the row in U= 0 else the row in U is the same as in the same row of a different column - Col I
Col R, T and U are numbers. Col S is text

If I can define things like where the table will be placed in the new worksheet etc, that will be a bonus..But It appears I cannot understand how to do this at all..
I am looking to return text based on the maximum value in a table.

Let's call the column with the animals over it "A" and the one with the numbers "B", and the rows are 1-5 to make explanations easier
I am looking to have a formula return the name of the animal with the highest three numbers (fish, cat, horse), but don't need the numbers. I am pretty confident this would be an index match formula, but I'm not too familiar with those functions.
1) I am trying to find a matching value in a table. I have a 5*252 table that starts in B2. So the table goes from B2 to F253. I am trying to match a value in column D (column 3 in the table and column 4 in the spreadsheet) with a value in Column F (column 5 in the table and column 6 in the spreadsheet). The original value is in cell 222 in the table and cell 224 in the spreadsheet.
I tried the LOOKUP, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP functions, but they return nothing but N/A. I use a reference cell or just the value for the lookup value but it does not work. I do not know if I am using the wrong formulas or what, but I have tried various permutations. (question 3 in excel workbook )
2) I am trying to calculate the standard deviation of a column D (contains both numbers and text) divided by column B (first in table). Excel does not appear to have a custom division formula. It has a remainder and a quotient formula which does not apply here. The problem is that the STDEV function does not allow for a division sign (/) in the formula. the STDEV function does ignore texts.
Is there a way for me to divide a cell ( containing both letters and numbers) by another cell just containing numbers and then taking the standard deviation of those values all in one formula?
Why is lastRow always returning 1? Even after adding values to worksheet and running macro - its always returning 1 for lastRow.... Am i missing something here? Do I need to refresh worksheet or something? I just dont get it :/

I'm using Excel 2003 and am trying to filter a list of values. The list has duplicate values in it. When I use Filter>Advanced Filter and select "Unique records only" the filter only eliminates some of the duplicates. If there are 4 values of 100, it may filter 2 of them or none at all. Ultimately I'm trying to end up with a list of values with no repeats.
I need an excel function to return the earliest and latest date for a particular/unique ID.
For example: In my sample workbook, the earliest date for all the columns with ID = 1 should return 11/1/2001 and the latest date should be 12/2/2011. If all the dates for a particular ID are the same, it should just return that date. For example, for ID = 2, all dates are 5/5/2010 so the earliest and latest dates should equal 5/5/2010. The earliest and latest dates have to be for each unique ID.
I have a download of public records from a local County Auditor, regarding property ownership. However, the data, as it is provided is incomplete. I have obtained, from another source, much of the missing data and would like to append the original data.
I don't know if this is even possible, but in 'Googling' it, I am optimistic.
I have attached an Excel 2007 spreadsheet with a sample of the County data on Sheet1 and the data that I would like to append on Sheet2.
Sheet1 lists the parcel number (A), and information regarding the last five recorded sales. B: Sale Date C: Deed Type D: Buyer Name E: Recording Number F: Sales Price G: Multiple Parcels ("Y") H: Notes I: Loan Information.
Then the B-I information is repeated four times (J-Q, R-Y, Z-AG, and AH-AO or also defined as columns 10-17, 18-25, 26-33 and 34-41) for a total of the last five sales.
Sheet2 is a listing of sales with similar information. A: Sale Date B: Parcel Number C: Buyer Name D: Sales Price E: Recording Number F: Deed Type G: Multiple Parcels ("Y") H: Notes I: Loan Information
What I hope to do is this:
If the 'Recording Number' (E) on Sheet2 matches the 'Recording Number' (E) on Sheet1, then replace the eight columns on Sheet1 with the data found on Sheet2 (pertaining to a specific sale number).
If the 'Recording Number' (E) on Sheet2 does not match any 'Recording Numbers' (E) on Sheet1, replicate the (unmatched) data (from Sheet2) on Sheet3.
My hope is that this will give me updated, and more complete, data on Sheet1 and also show me all the data that did not match on Sheet3 for me to use later.
I have included headers on both sheets in hope of making things clearer to the reader.
I am trying to basically search for the last non zero entry in a column and then return a value in the same row as that last non zero entry.
For example:
My first column of the table is time, second column is submission/marking of coursework (denoted by +1 & -1) and the third column is the number of courseworks awaiting to be marked. My aim is to search the third column for the last non zero value then return the time (from first column) that last non zero value appears.
I have a large XLS file will a lot of volatile functions (offsets & sumproducts) and I've recently had to add a sheet, making it even bigger. I have a problem that previously occured occasionally but now it happens consistently. Every time the workbook is recalculated, the Excel window is repainted with partial overlays of every visible worksheet. The result is a visual mess. The window's appearance is fixed by doing anything that forces Excel to repaint again, like clicking to another sheet and back. But it has become next to impossible to enter data with automatic calculation turned on.
ScreenUpdating is turned off when my macros run and besides that, I'm not doing anything with worksheet calculation events. I do have a Workbook_SheetChange event subroutine, but that is run *after* the recalculation so it's not the cause.
The problem occurs only when macros are enabled. If I disable macros, Excel behaves normally.
I have two Excel installations and the problem is happening only in Excel 2007 under Vista. It doesn't happen under my Excel 2003 on XP, though I think it may be happening to others with 2003 & XP.
Column A will have times that need to be referenced in a lookup. (Ex Sat 8:00am)
Row 1 will have basball field codes reference with a lookup. (Example Field 4
Cells B2:I11 have distinct codes or possibly nothing. (An example would be: Tier 1 A1-A3)
These codes will move around from time to time. They will always remain distinct within the grid, but could appear in any of the cells from B2:I11.
I have 2 columns I want to populate with values from the grid.
First is Fields. I want the first cell to populate with the baseball field found in row 1 of which the code Tier1 A1-A3 falls under.
For example if this season Tier1 A1-A3 is found in the column under Field 4, then I need to return Field 4 as a result.
Second is the time. I want the time to be populated based on what row the Tier1 A1-A3 code falls in.
For example if Tier1 A1-A3 is in the Sat 8:00am row, then I need that value returned.
In short, I need to search the grid and find a given value. I then need to use a lookup (or other tool) to return the first value in that row. And secondly via lookup return the first value in that column.
edit: added spreadsheet example. First sheet is grid in question, 2nd sheet is a typical schedule.
The first Team (Scared Hitless) is A1, the team they play first is Sands Duel Fuel (A3) They play at 11:00am on Field TR3.
You will see on the grid under TR3 and Sat 11:00 the code Tier 4 A1v3. This code is what I want to search and correlate into times on the schedule rather than doing the data entry by hand.
I have a file with immunophenotypic markers and their relationship to certain blood cells.
What I need to do is search the list and pull out the groups of defining markers for each blood cell. Some of the cells have many markers, some only have one but I need to find which combinations of markers identify each cell if possible.
I have two different lists of names. One is about 3000 names long and the other has about 3500 names. I want to identify the 500 people that are not in the first list that are in the second. If there anyway to do this? I was going to put them in A-Z order and then go through and using an IF(A=B,"yes","no") and go through and insert new cell when ever it says no till it says yes BUT the functions start messing up when I insert a new row and it's taking way too long.
Attached is a sample file that has a Data entry sheet in which the user can paste in data. They can test & paste anywhere from 1 to 50 compounds at a time and run the list through 1 to 55 Assays. I want to generate a sheet (Plate & Assay Info) that would first display the list of compounds that were tested as well as the list of Assays that they were run through.
I have been using the SMALL function to find 10 smallest values in a list, however, some of the values are the same, is there a way of only having the 10 smallest unique values within a list?
I am trying to calculate the average headcount for different categories (over a certain period of time, by product, by job type etc) and I want to do it using a formula instead of a pivot table.
I have this set of data with a detailed headcount for every month. And I can find out the total HC for different categories using sumif/sumifs but if want to find out the average for a certain period, I need to split that total to the number of months where I have a HC.
For example, if the HC per month would be:
May 2013 - 12 June 2013 - 10 July 2013 - none August - 5
in a 4 months period I would have a total HC of 27 and the average would be 9 (27/3 - July shouldn't be counted). How can I get the average in a single formula?
If I have multiple entries with different but repeatable text values in one column - how do I count all unique ones ? Is there a function or does it have to be a pivot table of sth ?

Columns A & B contain several thousand Project Numbers (e.g., P1052, PA844, etc.). Many of the Project Numbers in column B are the same as in column A, but column B also has additional (i.e., newer) Project Numbers scattered throughout. Ideally, I would like to use a built-in function (versus a custom function if possible) that compares all the Project Numbers in both columns and then separately lists those that are unique to column B.
I have this list of companies (about 50) in one work sheet. If a certain company has sales or costs it will appear under the company name, as either Products, Installation or Freight. It looks something like this:

What formula should I use the find the installation that belongs to that certain company? And not all companies has a line that say installation.
Within a user entered range of two dates, I would like to identify the individual calendar date(s) and count the number of Mondays which fall within the specified date range.I will eventually be using the same "Monday" code to find the same data for every day of the week within the dates ranges, but I figured I'd start with Mondays and build from there.
For Example: Date range 1/1/2013 - 1/15/2013 (date ranges could potentially encompass a full business quarter) Within the range, list each of the dates as dates. (used for comparative counting purposes elsewhere in the document)Count the number of Mons, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fris, and Sats within the date range.Based on the example date ranges above; Mons = 2, Tues through Sats = 3 each.
I have a list of projects and a list of milestones and I want to extract every milestone for a project one by one. I have found a way to do this for one project but as there is not a fixed number of milestones, it's proving tricky to do it for multiple projects as I don't know how to tell the formula to stop looking at the Project 1 and move on to Project 3 for example.
This is a very very simplified version of my table (there are other columns inbetween and many more projects)

I don't want to be copying all of the cells or doing a lot of manipulation - i know i can copy, sort, and get unique values that way - i want a formula where as i plug in values, this field is updated to include all of the distinct or unique values.
