Finding The Number Of Unique Items In A Range That Contains Empty Cells?

Aug 15, 2014

It is about finding the number of unique items in a range that contains empty cells.I can intuit the form of this:

Formula:

[Code]....

And many of the variations of it when there are no empty cells in the range.

For a range of that contains empty cells I've tried this:

Formula: [Code] .....

And variations of it. It does not work, and I don't know why...............however..........

I ran across this on another [SOLVED] thread and it does work:

Formula: [Code] .....

I would have never considered this plausible. What is the magic behind appending an empty string to the criteria in the COUNTIF function?

It strikes me that this strategy likely has application elsewhere, too.

Finding A Number In Multiple Cells With Each Of Its Own Range

Nov 3, 2009

So this is something that I'm not sure is possible in Excel. I would like to use an "if,then" statement to see if a number is in multiple cells. I know this is usually very simple except there's a catch here. In each cell there's a number range using a "-". So in a single cell a range would be 301-305. I am open to having the range done a different way like 301,302...etc. I just decided this would be an easy way to look at it and was hoping to find a way to solve this problem with leaving in the dash. Whatever is practical is fine with me.

Using Example A in the attached file I want to use this statement, =IF(308 is in any of the ranges in A3:A6, TRUE, FALSE).

So, for me, the alternative I want to avoid is Example B where I would have to list every single number and then check the whole range. I would like to avoid this because these examples, as you can imagine, are on a much smaller scale then what I will actually be dealing with.

I want to paste a list of customers into a sheet and then have a formula that counts the number of customers. So, even if a customer appears 10 times it would only count it once and and continues down the column and counts the next company name and so on. Then it gives me a total of the number of different companies in that column.

Counting Number Of Unique Items In Column

Oct 10, 2008

I am trying to count the number of unique items in a single column (~5,000 rows of data). For example, I may have the following data

a1 = apples
a2 = pears
a3 = oranges
a4 = apples
a5 = apples
a6 = apples
a7 = pears

in this case number of uniques items is 3

Right now I am using a Pivot Table to figure out the number of unique items but I am sure there is an easier way to do this.

Finding Items In List With Blank Cells?

AAA

1/26
1/27

Setting Up A Validation Of Data Listbox To Provide The Unique Items Within A Range

Jul 23, 2006

I am trying to insert a listbox by the way of data validation and would
like
to only have unique data displayed in it. I was wondering if anybody
has done this before or if it is possible. I would like it to remove
any and all records that are blank.

This is what I have got so far.................

VBA Function UniqueItems(ArrayIn, Optional Count As Variant) As Variant
' Accepts an array or range as input
' If Count = True or is missing, the function returns the number
' of unique elements
' If Count = False, the function returns a variant array of unique
' elements

Next i

AddItem:
' If not in list, add the item to unique list
If Not FoundMatch Then
NumUnique = NumUnique + 1
ReDim Preserve Unique(NumUnique)
Unique(NumUnique) = Element
End If

Next Element

' Assign a value to the function
If Count Then UniqueItems = NumUnique Else UniqueItems = Unique
End Function

Then I input an array with a few duplicate Item and us the function to
determine the list. So far I found that it worked for the following
function:
{=TRANSPOSE(UniqueItems(A4:A27))}
but this only gives me the number of unique items in the array. The
problem is when I try to use the following function:
{=TRANSPOSE(UniqueItems(A3:A26,FALSE))}
This now only returns a zero and if I fill down they all are zero.

I would like to get a list of unique items from this formula. Example
list would be:
{Array = Lorem, Lorem, foo, bar, bar} {Formula_returns = Lorem, foo,
bar}
I haven't a clue how to display this in a regular excel cell box so I
thought that using a validation list box would inherently work.

VBA - Finding And Counting Unique Dates And Days Of Week Within Date Range

Feb 11, 2013

Within a user entered range of two dates, I would like to identify the individual calendar date(s) and count the number of Mondays which fall within the specified date range.I will eventually be using the same "Monday" code to find the same data for every day of the week within the dates ranges, but I figured I'd start with Mondays and build from there.

For Example: Date range 1/1/2013 - 1/15/2013 (date ranges could potentially encompass a full business quarter) Within the range, list each of the dates as dates. (used for comparative counting purposes elsewhere in the document)Count the number of Mons, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fris, and Sats within the date range.Based on the example date ranges above; Mons = 2, Tues through Sats = 3 each.

Formula Finding Number In Range To Display Another Number

15 25 .072
35 45 .089

Output Cell = ???

I am trying to find a formula for the output cell. Suppose the designated cell = 7 due to formulas above it. So that number is always given but can change. I then need a formula for the ouput cell that says if the designated cell is greater than or equal to 1, and less than 10, then the output cell should equal .034. So suppose the designated cell = 18.2. Then I would want the output cell to be .072 since it is greater than or equal to 15, and less than 25. The template I am using has 23 rows of numbers like above. I didn't know how to do it for 23 rows though. If/Then doesn't work because it is 23 statements long (well over the seven limit) and the vlookup only works when the cell is equal to a number and not a range.

Finding Row Number Within Range With Conditions

Dec 7, 2006

In the screen shot I'm trying to find the row number where a particular price of an order has been reached. In this case, for the first order, my execution price is 1.8859, my stop loss is 1.8834 and take profit is 1.8884. I need to look and the future prices to determine which event had occured first (either the take profit or the stop loss). I though by using row numbers I would compare and which ever is smallest would mean that it occured first - the profit/loss is then calculated.

The other caveat is that an exact match may not always be available - for example, the second trade is stoped out because the highest price for the 12:35 timeframe exceeds the value I'm looking for. Still it would have triggered a stop loss.

Finding Cells With First Instance Of Number

Feb 20, 2009

I've got a very large spreadsheet wherein I need to write a formula for each row to find the first cell with any entry greater than 0 and then add to that cell the contents ONLY 5 cells contiguious to it.

For example data set is this (in .csv format for you)

(column headers)
Name, Jan01, Feb01, March01, April01, May01, June01, July01, Aug01, Sept01, Oct01, Nov01, Dec01, Jan02, Feb02, March02, April02, May02

Jones,0,0,0,0,5,2,7,9,3,10,13,4,8,9,22,7,9
Smith,0,0,3,8,17,23,9,3,16,28,44,7,6,9,10,5,12,19,10

I need formula to find first instance in each row of entry greater than 0 and then add to that the contents of next 5 cells.

Jones would find the 5 and then add the 2,7,9,3,10 to it for formula result of 36
Smith would find the 3 and then add the 8,17,23,9,3 to it for formual result of 63

Formula Based Upon Number Of Empty Cells?

Jul 28, 2014

I am creating a fantasy football draft board using excel. To keep it short and sweet, each individual team (one per column) has a $200 budget to draft players. Each team must fill 14 roster positions (one per row), but here's the catch; you must spend at least $1 on all of the 14 players on your roster. So you have a maximum bid amount which is your remaining budget subtracted by $1 for every remaining spot you have left to fill.

I have already created a "remaining budget" field which subtracts each drafted player's inserted dollar amounts from the $200... easy. Beneath this, I'd like to create another cell per team that tells you your "maximum bid," which is essentially 200, -1 for every cell that remains blank. I have played around with the conditional IF formulas but cannot seem to have it account for multiple cells.

As a workaround, I have made columns hidden beneath the board which contain the conditional IF, ISBLANK fields which are -1 if true and 0 if false. Then creating the "remaining budget" field that subtracts these values from 200. This works, but it's not perfect, as when you have multiple players you still need to draft and you've exhausted your budget only saving $1 for each, it overstates your "maximum bid" by $1, or when you have $X left and you need to only fill one more spot, it ill tell you your "maximum bid" is $X-1.

Macro To Autofill A Number In Empty Cells In A Column

This row contains several unique numbers, variable number of blank cells between them, all having 10 digits and starting with 4100.. - So the macro needs to repeat this for every unique number.

2)Once it does this, I need it to autofill the unique number in all the cells in column A until the next unique number is reached.
