Forcing A User To Input A Set Number And Type Of Character In A Userform
Apr 10, 2007
I want to force my user to input a date in a userform. I have a normal Textbox and assumed i'd be able to set the properties to mean that imput had to be an integer and the format had to be "00/00/00" but I can't see how to do this.

I have declared a 'long' variable. however; how do I change the variable data type to string if user input is not a number? how do I recognize the user input's datatype?

I have a few questions here.
1) Can a userform procedure be place in the midst a larger macro, so that it can get input from the user before running the rest of the macro? ie If the user leave the input field blank, the macro will exit will a msgbox.
2) I have a range(A1:A3) that i want my userform to display. This range is dynamic. The user will require to input the corresponding country next to it. how do i code the this? I will need to use a listboxes and textboxes right?
for example: userform shows city on the left, user will need to input the country on the right.
A1 - California (user input on the right)
A2 - Shanghai (user input on the right)
A3 - Mumbai (user input on the right)

I have a userfrom with a text box which is used to receive a telephone number from the user. The 'Event' code that checks the formatting of the telephone number is "tbCustTel_Exit". If my user enters a format other than what is acceptable for a tel number, they get an error message telling them to re-enter.
My problem is they still end up EXITING that text box they made a mistake in? How can I override them exiting the text box if they make a mistake - and keep them in the text box so they can try and re-enter the tel number again?

Is it possible to lock a cell so that the user must enter the number manually as opposed to using a formula.
There is a cell on one of our spreadsheets that the user should be hand entering the numbers from the general ledger this is done to ensure that the general ledger balance is the same as the spreadsheets totals. However most of the user insert a formula that just copies the number from above into this cell that should be hand entered.

I am working on a spreadsheet and would like to create a cell that allows the user to input a number (1 to 5) which will then equate to a percentage(%). I would then like this to deduct that percentage from a total number...
To try and explain this.. Should the user input 1 into the cell, this would then equate to 3% - this would then deduct from a total that percentage. Input 2 = 5% etc..

I have an excel sheet that I've automated for my shop ... Basically it copies a set of rows from one sheet, asks for which cell you want to start the paste at, then pastes it... Here's what I have so far:
[Code] .....
So I tried to use a variation of strReturn to indicate number of rows wanted but that didn't work ... Basically I'm going to create the "data" to include 50 rows, but have it selectable for the user to say they only want 5, 7 or 29 rows ...

[Code].....
With that said, I want to put the row number of a user in (I have a few thousand on this spreadsheet, and all the = data be automatically pulled based on the row number I put in cell B1. So I'm hoping to write in cell B1 the following - "143" (without the quotes), and the remaining cells in column B automatically pull that data based on that, so it would look like the following
Row #
143
Name:
=C143&" , "&D143&" "&E143
[Code]....
How do I write the functions to keep the columns the same, but change the row number based on the number I input?

I am trying to create a document and i'm not sure if this is possible or not, but i'd like to type in a number in column A (1-10) and then in column B have a symbol appear corresponding to the number.
So if i type in 5 in Column A, Column B will have 5 squares pop up (or something along those lines), etc.

I am sure this isn't just a setting that can be enable in excel. I was wondering if there is a code that will allow the display of the number of characters in a cell when typing in it.
I know there is a len() function but I don't know how to use it so it displays my char length on the go.

the way my spreadsheet's set up so far is that each employee should have a goal of, say, 100 for how many people they need to sign up. But they each have specific geographic breakdowns in their turf, some of which might be bigger or smaller than others, but at the end should all add up to 100 for each employee.
It's not super hard to do since I just take a goal of 100, in this example, and multiply it by the percent of population of the area in their overall assignment and give them a goal for that area based on that. So if Philadelphia has 70% of their total population, Upper Darby has 20% of their total population, and Phoenixville has 10% of their total population -- the goals would come out like this:
Philadelphia, Goal: 70
Upper Darby, Goal: 20
Phoenixville, Goal: 10
Ryan, Total Goal: 100
For some of the employees, that works out perfectly -- but based on the population sizes, the rounding sometimes gets a little off and it could end up like this:
Philadelphia, Goal: 71
Upper Darby, Goal: 19
Phoenixville, Goal: 11
Ryan, Total Goal: 101
For most employees, it ends up being dead-on 100 -- but there are some whose totals are at 98 or 99 or 101, and I was wondering if there was a way to force it to shave a point off or add a point on somewhere, pending on how close the decimal was when it rounded to make sure that it always ends up exactly on 100. (I'm using 'Data >> Subtotals' to get what's being represented above as "Ryan, Total Goal.")

I have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)

User enters a number i.e. 2 or 3 etc
It then asks user for the headings of these coulmns and places first column heading in A1 and second column heading in B1, third in C1 and so on ...

I am currently working in an application in which I use the following user defined types:
Public Type correlationstruct
corr As Variant
corrstd As Variant
lower As Variant
upper As Variant
support As Variant
End Type
I have a public variable called myctafund, of type ctafund:
Public myctafund As ctafund
My problem is the following: When I need to update myctafund, I first want to clean it entirely before putting new values, so as to be sure older values do not stick around (I do not necessarily overwrite all the values of the mycta type).I can't figure out a way of clearing the entire myctafund variable in one shot. I tried:
myctafund=empty
but I am granted by a nasty excel error. I'd like to avoid writing 200 lines of code just to clean the entire variable.

I know how to create a basic dropdown list, but what I don't know (I don't even know if it is possible to do at all) is how to allow user type-in response if the "Other (please specify)" option is used.
Column A
Question 1. What type of report are you using?
Column B will contain
Type I Report
Type II Report
Other (please specify)
If Type I or II is chosen from the list, I don't want user to be able to change anything. But If the Other (please specify) option is selected I would like to give user an ability to type in type of the report he/she is using. Also, is there a way to have list options chosen based on another list response?

I have an array with structure, i.e. User Defined Type. Assume the user defined type has two elements: Element1 and Element2 and array name is Array.
So the definition is:
Dim Array(1 To 10) As UserType
and access to elements is
Array(5).Element1
The problem is that I need to pass the whole set of Element1 or Element2 to a function. Should it have been two separate arrays, it would not be a problem. But because of the user defined structure I have no idea how to pass a single element.
I hope there is another solution rather than to use loops. I have many arrays like this with complex structures. I simply can not replicate all of them.

I am trying to figure out how to create a "User-Defined" enumerated type typically used in other languages (other than VBA).
for example in Java a typical enum type is declared like this:
enum Season { WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, FALL }
This gives the benefit of writing "readable" code.
(back to vb)
If Season SUMMER then
call wear_a_sweater
end if

I received a request from a coworker regarding custom formatting some numbers in his spreadsheet. Those numbers are serial numbers of 20 characters long. Sometimes in my files I use this custom number formatting ###0 and its enough for the data I handle. But when I tried to use it in his spreadsheet, the following shows:
8456891070060510000
The cell must look like this: 08456891070060510302
The reason to have it like this is due to a Delivery Program requirement to deliver Set-top Units for repair. The Delivery Program do not recognize other format than the above. My coworker takes the data from a spreadsheet, and the spreadsheet needs a custom number format to display the correct number.
find a custom number format to be able to display as my coworker need it??

How do I pause my macro until the user selects a chart in the worksheet? Or Keep prompting a message to the user till he selects the chart and when a chart is selected run the macro.
Step 1: Check if a chart is Selected
Step 2: If yes, run the macro
Step 3: If no, prompt the user with a msgbox of Retry/Cancel.
Step 4: If the user selects Retry, wait till he makes a selection.
Step 5: If the selection is a chart, run the macro. If the selection is not a chart prompt the same msgbox again and keep looping it till he selects a chart.
Sub test5()
Dim chtSelected As Chart
Dim UserResponse As Integer
On Error Resume Next
Set chtSelected = ActiveChart
