I've got a long list of company names, i'm trying to create a formula to see if they match but the problem is the names won't match exactly (e.g it would be Joe Bloggs Limited & Joe blogg's ltd). I've thought about it and think the best way to see if they match would be to take the first word from the first cell (in this case Joe) and then search for it in the next cell and return TRUE if it exists anywhere in the cell and FALSE if not.
Is it possible to use the Sumproduct formula to search for a particular word and grab the amount in the next column, but 1 row down? For example, I would search for region 1, but want to grab the figure in the total loans column next to Consumer.
Region Loan Type Total Loans --------- ------------ -------------- Region 1 Commercial 150000 Consumer 75000 Region 2 Commercial 90000 Consumer 145000
I am trying to figure out a formula which will search the contents of 6 cells (o2, p2, q2,r2,s2,t2) for the word "sugar". If it is found in either of these cells, I would like the formula to result in "true" or "yes", if not, "false" or"no" would be the result.
Cells (o2, p2, q2,r2,s2,t2) contain text which can include the word "sugar" but will never contain only the word sugar.
When i press say a command button " Add Repair Information" i want the User to Enter the serial number which i have given it a range called SerialN from the excel sheet and enter a repair action. Is there a function in Excel which will allow me to search the Serial Number and allow me to put the Repair action across in the cell on the same line?
I have a phone list and I am trying to add a search box to it that when you type in the Employee name, it will return the value of the cell adjacent to the search result so the extension can show up.
I am a VBA Novice, but I have found plenty of code for the searching aspect of it. I am having trouble figuring out how to have the search occur and then return a different value then what was originally searched for.
Ideally I would like the msg box to show both the employee's full name and extension.
I have a set of data which contains " Account Heads" in Column "A" and "Data" in Column "B", "Data" contains "Account Heads" with some other text as well, i want to have the Account Head in Column "C" based on the "Account Heads" from "Data"
I have a small problem which i cannot seem to figure out. I want to create a code to search for a word in a certain column ie. "L". The row of the columns change until they hit the end of the list. What I want this macro to do is find the word and then if the word matches to leave the cell alone otherwise I want it to hide the cell. Basically something like this:
If Cells(3,12) = "JF" then do nothing else hide cell.
This is wrekcing my head as I'm sure it can be done with an Array formula and I cant seem to get it sorted -
Say I have 5 Rows of text starting in A2 "A quick word" "A quick WORD" "A" "word" "WORD"
I need an excel formula to say "False", "False", "False", "False", "TRUE".
All conditions to be met for TRUE are - Word must in uppercase, Uppercase Word must be longer than 1 character, Sentence (i.e. cell) can not contain a space. This is the path I've gone down, but almost certainly incorrect -
So I have a cell with multiple words in A1. I want to check for the word "red" in A1 and if red exists return a value of "red" in B2, IF "red" is not found then search for "blue", if "blue" exists return a value of "blue" in B2, if "blue" is not found is not found then search for "green", if "green" exists then return "green" in B2, if none exist then return value of "none"
I'm from Bavaria, Germany. Right now, I am doing an internship for my studies. my problem: I need a search procedure which shows an Input Box where you can enter a word to search for. It should work like the original Excel search (Ctrl-F), but with a simpler design, like with my own Text "Enter your Query" and a Button "Submit Query" / "Quit search". Is there the possibility to Highlight the Search Target? The problem hereby is that this highlighting should not be permanent. That means the user sees the target for which he searched for, the cell highlighted in a different color, etc. But as soon as the user clicks onto another cell, etc., the highlighting vanishes. If there is no fitting match, there should be a MessageBox like "Sorry the Target xyz cannot be found"
I would Need a macro which would Search a Keyword in the excel sheet and copies and pates the data in Cell "A2". for Example "Market" and then after the search it copies 12 rows upwards and 10 columns from the Cell that the word "Market" is placed. And then it copies 12 rows downwards and 10 columns from the Cell that the word "Market" is placed.
I have tried recording the same but it does not work if the Word "Market" is placed in different cell value.
I am new to VBA and have tried to develop the code for finding a specific stock symbol (Column A) from over 4200 symbols from a downloaded csv file, copy the data in in its (specific symbol's) row (in the next 5 columns B to F) to the 3rd blank row in the master workbook (data arranged from Bottom to Top). In the Master workbook each stock symbol has a worksheet with its symbol as the tab e.g. BHP.AX is the tab or sheetname for BHP stock in the Australian Stock Exchange. The downloaded file comes from a subscribed site EODData which provides daily OHLCV (Open/High/Low/Close/Volume) data against each symbol.
My attempt is shown below and it is very primitive. It does not work! I wish to run it from the Master workbook (name:-0PortfolioASXMultipleIB.xlsm) and not from Csv Data file.
VB: Sub Macro0CopyFromCSV() 'Insert a blank row and format it in Master workbook Rows("3:3").Select Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove
I have a sheet where in one column, the word "high" will be repeated. I need to find these multiples and then list down in a seperate column the text relevant to each of those multiples (contained in an adjacent cell). I.e if A1 & A3 hold the text "high", take the corresponding values in b1 & B3 and list them in new column C (C1 & C2 continuing in sequential order). I have searched the forums but i can' t seem to find anything.
I searched and I keep finding something that's not quite what I'm looking to do so I think I'm missing something really simple.
Let's say that I want each cell in col b to be the sum of 5 plus whatever value is in the cell adjacent to it on the left (col).
I know that you can just write a formula in each cell like...
b1 will be =sum(a1+5) b2 will be =sum(a2+5)
... but is there a shortcut so that you don't have to write out the actual cell address for each one?
Meaning - is there a predefined name or something that represents the cell to the left or right so you can just use that instead, allowing you to just copy paste the same formula all the way down the column? Something like...
b1 will be =sum(left+5) b2 will be =sum(left+5)
... where "left" represents whatever value is in the cell to the left of that particular cell?
Ok. I am creating item lists in excel for every product that my company sells. I am in need of a formula that does the following:
I want the cell to check to see if there is a value in another cell, and if there is anything at all, i want to display the word Yes as the value, or leave the cell empty.
So I want the cells in Column A to Check if the adjacent cells in Column B have a value. If the column b cells have a value I want the cells in Column A to display the word "Inventory Part". If there is no value I want the cell left blank.
what is prompting this formula to auto fill down when a value in an adjacent cell is entered.
In column A I enter an unformatted fax number. In column B I use the following Text Formula: "="("&LEFT(A20,3)&")"&MID(A20,4,3)&"-"&RIGHT(A20,4)
Someone in my office copied the workbook and now any time a value is entered into the next available Column A cell. The cell in column B will automatically apply the above formula and format the fax number. The person who copied the workbook does not know how this is working nor does anyone else in the office.
There are no macros embedded in this workbook so no event is firing to cause this.
I have attached a small copy of the workbook called "Auto format1.xls"
How to use: -Select cell B20 and not nothing is in it. -Enter any 9 digits in A20 and B20 somehow copies down the formula from B19.
I need to create a cell reference which will allow me to specify a cell in a table by value (using indirect) and pull the value from a cell immediately one row over for use in a formula. Say I have a table Containing column A and B; I want to reference the value of a cell in column A (e.g. "Large Widget") and receive (in the formula) the value in column B (e.g. "41 cm^2").
I am having trouble getting my IF statement to test if the cell contains the text "sale" return "X" if not "Y". I need it to search through the text string in that cell and find a certain word, and if it finds that word, retrn a value. I am really having difficulty with is what symbol or function do I use for the logical test? (i.e. =, <>, MATCH, INDEX?)
I have a formula in my spreadsheet that shows dates for servicing of products. Column F show's Date Last Serviced and the adjacent column (G) then shows Date Next Service. When there is nothing on the F column's cell then the date that appears on my spreadsheet is 31/12/00. It looks messy and I would rather have a formula to make it so that if the F column is blank, then the adjacent cell in G column should stay blank also.
To automatically calculate the next service due date, I have variants of this formula that creates the dates in G column:
I've created the following Macro based on some of the posts on this great forum! It works great, but I'd like to tweak it for another purpose where it would fill the formula down until a cell in column AF had the value "#N/A" or stopped having the value "clean". The #N/A is from a formula result so I'm not sure if or how the Macro would treat this.
Code: Sub Y_CleanUp3() ' ' Clean Up Bad Data Macro 3 Dim LR As Integer Range("AH2").Formula = "=VLOOKUP(X2,'[Territory by Zip Code.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$2:$B$135000,2,TRUE)" LR = Range("AF" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row Range("AH2").AutoFill Destination:=Range("AH2:AH" & LR), Type:=xlFillDefault With Range("AH2:AH" & LR) End With End Sub
I have a spreadsheet with data populated down column B. This size will vary from day to day so is there a macro I can run that will populate Column C with a formula based on their being data in the adjacent cell.
I can solve my problem with a pivot table, and with VBA easily...however, I'm interested in knowing if this can be done with formulas (array formulas using index/match I'm assuming).
Goal: On sheet1 I have one column with products, then the column next to it will have an "Y" in it if the product is to be selected (blank if not). On sheet2 I want to create a list of the products that were selected (having the "Y"). The only thing stumping me is that I do not want spaces between the product list on sheet2...just a nice continuous list. Example:
i will illustrate what i want to do here with these two excel sheets below. I want to some sort of coding that searches for A and B (Name of the Branch) from sheet 2 and copy the No. of transactions given against A & B from sheet 2 to sheet 1.
OR keep just A & B in sheet 2 and delete the rest of the rows so that i can manually copy and paste values against A & B.
