Formula To Skip Blank Cells

Mar 9, 2011

I'm looking to create a formula that will skip past any blanks until it finds the latest and most up-to-date value.

Some context: I wish to return a latest estimate value to a cell (A5), and this value is updated quarterly. Let's say that the quater 1 value sits in cell A1, Q2 in A2, Q3 in A3 and Q4 in A4. I wish cell A5 to display the latest estimate as soon as a user updates it on a quarterly basis, but default to the previous quarter's estimate if that latest view is unavailable.

I've tried using some IF(ISBLANK...) combinations but am getting nowhere !

NB want to try and avoid Macros across this worksheet so a formula solution would be best.

Whenever I skip blank cells during the paste to the new sheet Excel does not skip anything. Any ideas on how I would shift all data to be on the left side of the without copying the blank cells.

Change Empty Cells To Blank Cells (need To Use Skip Blanks Function)

Mar 8, 2014

I have a spreadsheet where a column has many cells being empty and others with values. I need to use copy-paste skip blanks to another column so it only overwrites cells that contains values. BUT The cells in the column appears to be empty, not blank, when I try use the copy-paste skip blanks it doesnt work. However, when I press delete in every empty cell the copy-paste skip blanks works for those cells.

Do you got a fast method to make all the empty cells blank?

Skip Blank Cells In Chart Data

Jan 29, 2011

I have a column of data that I want to display as a chart. However, there are some blank cells in the column. When I use a simple line chart, the chart drops the line all the way down to zero for the blank cells. If the blank cell is B4 in column B, is it possible to make excel ignore that cell and connect B3 and B5 with a straight line?

Skip SpecialCells Action If There Are No Blank Cells

Aug 21, 2008

I am trying to run an action on a series of cells that inserts rows whenever there are blank cells (resulting from the formula) in column.

The problem: When I have a situation where there are not blank cells, the the .SpecialCells action does not work. I have tried the On Error Goto, but I have multiple equations that can have this occur and I have only been able to use that feature once in a macro.

LR = ActiveSheet.Range("B65536").End(xlUp).Row
Set Rng = Range("A2:A" & LR)
With Rng
.FormulaR1C1 = "=IF(OR(AND(RC[16]="""",R[-1]C[16]=1),AND(R[1]C[16]="""",RC[16]=1)),"""",1)"
End With
Set Rng = Range("A:A")
With Rng
.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeFormulas, 2).EntireRow.Insert 'stopped here

A Formula To Reference Another Page And Skip Cells To Get To Desired Results?

May 14, 2014

I am trying to find a formula that will allow me to reference another page in my spread sheet. In my scenario the row I am referencing has 5 consectutive numbers after the reference point I would use for a vlookup. These numbers are all zeros except for one number in each row which will be a positive number greater than zero. I want my formula to check the first cell in the row, if it is not a zero it will show that number, but if this cell contains 0, then it moves over to the next cell. If all the cells in the row have a zero, then i just want zero to appear on my summary sheet. I tried to do a vlookup with an IF function, but I couldn't get it to work. I have attached a sample of what the spreadsheet looks like.Example doc.xlsx

Excel 2010 :: Making Portions Of Drag Down Formula Skip Cells

Feb 11, 2014

I have set up a formula to sum data from specific columns in multiple sheets in the same file. The simple formula had worked perfectly until I needed the data from the last sheet. In all of the other sheets the data that I need to pull is all in consecutive rows but in the last sheet the data that I need pulled and added is in every 4th row. The sheet looks like this:

All of the columns I've filled in work fine. The ones blank are the ones I am running into issues with. When I drag down the formulas excel pulls the next consecutive rows, which is perfect for the first four sheets I am summing, but for the fifth sheet (I'll ref the Test1 column) I need it to pull 'Wayne 2014'!C6 and then 'Wayne 2014'!C10 in the next row and so forth.

Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
Test4
$ Amt.

Jan.16
=SUM(C2+D2+E2+F2)

[Code] ........

The first four sheets look like this, which is why they work fine:

Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
$ Amt.

Jan. 16
=SUM(C2:E2)

[Code] ........

The fifth sheet looks like this: I only want the formulas from the first sheet to pull the data from the dated rows in this sheet.

Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
$ Amt.

Jan. 16
=SUM(C2:E2)
=SUM(C3:C5)

[Code] ......

Is there any way in Excel 2010 to get it do what I want? (I am not sure how that one cell became outlined and I do not know how to fix it.)

Skip Row If Result Is Blank?

Mar 6, 2014

I have a workbook which contains a master document sheet and 14 worksheets with various if(and or vlookup statements to extract the data as we need it at our centre.

I wasn't able to sort the data alphabetically with iferror leave cell black, so I changed it to if error "zz". I am now having to sort 14 sheets A-Z every time I make a change to my workbook...very time consuming and frustrating. I'm looking for a way to not have to sort my worksheets, to have it done automatically or is there a way to skip rows if the data doesn't match the formula? I don't have any experience in Macros

I have removed a lot of the pages from my workbook example. The sheet that I am trying to skip rows is the 'Dolphin Chn' one. Data is coming from the other sheets. I have used conditional formatting to make ZZ entries white, so they won't be visible.

Insert Values And Skip Blank Rows

Jul 16, 2009

I want my macro to consider the # of rows of data on a spreadsheet and insert values into columns for those rows but then stop when it hits a blank one. For simplified example below, I have 3 columns in my spreadsheet. Row 1 has headers of Location, Status, and Effective Date. The first 5 rows of data under the headers have a value in the Location column (San Jose, Oakland, etc). When I run the macro, I want it to insert a value of "ACTIVE" in the Status column for each row that has a value in the Location column. Also, a single Effective Date value is stored in a cell elsewere in the spreadsheet, and I want the macro to insert that value in the Effective Date column for each row that has a value in the Location column. When it hits a blank row - row 7 in this spreadsheet - I want it to stop.

Location| Status | Effective Date
San Jose
Oakland
Austin
Houston
Phoenix

I currently am using an IF statement in the Status column fields to say if Location = blank, then blank, else "ACTIVE". That works, except that the # of rows populated in Location column could be 5 or 1,000, and inserting the formula that many times seems to quickly increase the file size.

Skip Blank Row When Export To Text File

With myRecord
For Each myField In Range(.Cells, Cells(.Row, Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft))

Next myField
Print #nFileNum, Mid(sOut, 2)
sOut = Empty
End With
Next myRecord
The problem is that sheets might by empty. I would like to add something to this code ( I guess some IF condition) so that all blank rows are skipped and not exported to text file.

Formula- Blank Cells

Jan 22, 2008

i've got a pricing spreadsheet that's doing my head in. hopefully someone can help me with my latest formula issue.

when i expor the file as a pdf, you loose the column names. so...

a b c d e f g h
part ID qty 1 price qty 2 price qty 3 price discount price

i want to calculate the discount price as a perctange of either b/c or d/e or f/g groupinsg (qty break & price for that paricular qty amt). The problem is b/c are populated for all rows. some parts have a secdonary price break (d/e) and some have a tiertary price break (f/g).

I want to take the percentge discount off the high qty price break. So if f/g is populated I want to take it from that. If it's not populated, then e/f. and Only if f/g & e/f are NOT populated do i want to take the discount from b/c. is there a formula i can insert into H to do this?

Cells With Numbers Appear Blank In Formula

Feb 26, 2014

I have been trying to import CSV files into Excel on my new computer. I previously had a windows 7 system with office 2007. I have now moved across to a windows 8 system with office 2013. The problem I am faced with is the CSV files which I imported without problems on my old system don't seem to work on the new one. The excel spreadsheet shows the numbers, but when I try and use any formula, the cell comes up with 0, as if there is nothing in the cell. When using my old system, it shows that it is a picture that needs to be converted to text, but I cannot find out how to sort this out in Windows 8. I have even tried various versions of office, 2007, and 2010 on the windows 8 system with the same problem. I have tried all the things I have found online, checking the regional settings and those type of things.

Currently with the it set to review all cells from 6 to 300 which includes blanks then it returns #value therfore I assume it is not coping with the blank cells.

Ignoring Blank Cells In Formula

Feb 5, 2010

I am trying to return the criteria MET, NOT MET & EXCEEDS. This works when each cell contains a number, but when one is blank the formula below returns "EXCEEDS" I'm guessing this is because is sees a blank as zero.

=IF(BN102<$BJ102,"NOT MET",IF(BN102>$BJ102,"EXCEEDS",IF(BN102=$BJ102,"MET")))

I've tried using this alternative but it still returns the same.

=IF(BO102<$BJ102,"NOT MET",IF(BO102>$BJ102,"EXCEEDS",IF(BO102=$BJ102,"MET",IF(ISBLANK(B102)," ",""))))

Basically I need to know how to make excel ignore the blank cell and not see it as zero thus returning "EXCEEDS". Although the cell values are integers they are derived from another cell using the following formula, I'm not sure if this makes any difference

=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(BO11,$BH$63:$BI$87,2,FALSE)),"",(VLOOKUP(BO11,$BH$63:$BI$87,2,FALSE)))

The PROBLEM: Because the cell C1 contains a formula (A1-B1) the D1 cell will display "NOT OK" even if the cell C1 doesn't show any number.

Formula To Tell If Range Has All Blank Cells In It?

Nov 13, 2012

I have a spreadsheet where I want to filter out a row if the entire row has zeros across all the columns. I cannot just use a Sum() formula because some of the numbers are negative and there is a chance it could zero the sum out.

Currently to do this I am using the following to tell if there are values in each of my rows:

Code:
ABS(K3)+ABS(T3)+ABS(U3)+ABS(V3)+ABS(W3)+ABS(Z3)+ABS(AC3)+ABS(AF3)

Is there any way to write a formula where I don't have to keep adding to the formula when I add another column?

Skip Empty Cell In Formula?

Jul 1, 2014

I want to make the formula: x=SUM(A * e^(-b*d)), wherein A and b are parameters and d the distance.

I've just over 10.000 rows and 15 columns (B4 to P10013) with distances. For each column i give a formula =$S$2*EXP(-$R$2*B4) and extent that for all colums and rows, then I sum all the columns. This works fine, except for the fact that when there is an empty cell the outcome is wrong. Because I set for example A as 10. The answer for that cell is 10, because he sees an empty cell as 0, i guess.

So how do I skip these empty cells?
