Function: Return Text After Specified Character
Nov 15, 2006
I am trying to build a formula that return what is after ":" For example, in a cell, I have NASDAQ:MSFT and I want another cell to return MSFT. I tried to use the function FIND combined with a LEFT or RIGHT but I could not have it work.

I am trying to return the first occurrence of a variable text string with-in brackets for all data on the spreadsheet using the "RIGHT" excel function, the text to search is in column D.
Example for cells D2 & D3 reads:
D2:Adv Costs (27a) - would return "27a"
D3:Designer Unit (60) (Base) (50abc) - would return "50abc"

Is there a function in VBA that is similar to either the FIND function or SEARCH function in Excel? The arguments for the FIND function in Excel are FIND(find_text, within_text, [position]).
I have a text string in VBA ("$A1:$D$13") that I want to be able to identify the first "$" and then later the ":". I'm getting tripped up on the 3rd line of code. Thanks a million.
Sub page_set_print_area()
ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea = "$A$1:$D$13"
x = ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PrintArea
Position$ = Search("$", x, 0)
End Sub

I have a cell with a text string >3, and would like it to return the number (not text) 3. I could use Right but since the number will not only be single digit I don't think this will work.

I am plotting a chart using data from custom functions. On occasion, the formulas return erratic values (due to the underlying data) which I wish to exclude from the chart. If the function does not pick up a value in the code, by default it returns a zero.I would like when this happens to have my function return nothing instead of a value - and I mean absolutely nothing, not a blank string. in this way, the chart line will totally ignore this point.

I am using a MID fn to extract a single digit from a numeric string. I then use an IF Function to return a value based on the extracted digit. My IF statement works fine on manually entered digits but doesn't recognize my MID fn result. What am I missing?

I have two columns in a spreadsheet that I want to use an IF function with. In the first column, I want a pick list containing 5 text options. Depending on which option is chosen, I want a number to auto-populate in the second column.
The numbers are important, because I want to repeat this pair of cells with slightly different text values in the second pair, and then to have a column that multiplies the two resulting numbers and conditional formats the result.

I need code for a search box function, that returns the information recorded in a cell for example, "Barcelona" or "London" etc), instead of the location of the cells.
I will need to narrow it down to search only the information in the following columns:
Sheet2
I2:J10932
I am totally new to VBA coding and have stumbled my way through a few things, but everything I have searched for so far has had at least one error when transposing to Excel.
I am running Excel 2007.

I have an Excel file that quiries Google for driving distance (someone helped me with this.) It returns the correct miles but has some 'extra' characters. Example:
31.1&nb or 886&nbs
So the answer always has &nbs after the mileage. I tried the following function which works when there is a decimal but fails when there is not. =REPLACE(MID(E2,1,SEARCH("&",E2,1)-1),SEARCH(".",E2,1),1,","). Can this be done with a function or must it be VB script? Which is fine if it is.

I have several property codes in column E e.g THA 134,THB 224, C 122, 223 AD. The letters A, B, C, D denote a type of property but do not always appear in the same place in the cell (sometimes 3rd character, sometimes first character etc). I want to put in a formula in column F, so that if the character A, B, C or D is in column E then the result in column F will be "A type", "B Type" etc....

Length ( x ) Width ( x ) Height
I am looking for the Height value
How can I use the =mid function based on the 2nd ( x ) character?

I'm looking for a VBA Macro that will do the following:
1. Count number of cells in a given row that contain special character "*"
2. If there is an asterisk in a given row, return the column header(s) contained in row 1 of the spreadsheet that correspond to each instance of cell(s) that contains the "*".
Is there a way to do this? I've attached an example of what I'm talking about, (Column A shows the desired result.)

Pretty sure this has been asked but have searched the forum to no avail, but I need to extract the numbers from a value which has a letter on the end.
eg. 1000x I need to get out the 1000
or 2p I need the 2
I have sooooo many values ranging in numbers of digits, so just basic left(A1,2) won't work, I'm sure I've seen a search or find function but don't know how to use them!

I need to make a list of Part Numbers in quotation marks. If a number of digits of a P/N is less than 13 a number of space characters has to be added to make the string 13 characters long.
We have example P/N:
1234567890123
12345678
123456
should become:
"1234567890123(no extra space characters should be filled-13chars)"
"12345678(5 extra space characters here)"
"123456(7 extra space characters)"
Is there a function that inputs a cerain number of a specific character ("space" in this example)?

I have special character that I removed with =CLEAN formula.
It was only one character which represents carriage return. It looks like one little square with question mark inside.
After I applied =CLEAN formula it disappeared, but now I don't have space between these two words.
How could I replace this special character with space?

I have a cell in my worksheet with a fully qualified filename like 'D:abcDefGHIJklxyz123.app
I would like to extract only the xyz123.app. Obviously, the number of characters is going to vary based on the filename. The find and search functions appear to locate the cell but not the substring in the text. The right and left appear to work based on number of characters and in my case these are varying. Also, there does not appear to be any function that can do a search a string from right to left.

The following code reads text one character at a time, and each character is determined either to be a blank space or to be any other character. If it's determined to be any other character, then the character is added to the active cell. If it's determined to be a blank space, then the active cell becomes the cell one column over. The idea is to have different words written in columns next to each other.
The sample text file I'm reading from reads: "text file". The file has only those two words. One space between them. No space before the first word, and no space after the second word. The following code compiles and runs. BUT the result is that the word "text" is in column k, not A. And the word "file" is in column J, not b.

I have a list of over 300+ email addresses. If there is a way that I could pull out the ".com" (Find & Replace: Which is not working in any format, Text, Custom, General.) then pull out the text from the right to left until I get to the "@" into another cell and drag that down that would make it so much easier. Is there a formula that will pull data and then stop at a CHAR code? @ =CHAR(64) These email addresses are all different lengths. (personal to corporate email addresses.)
Example: moe10134@hotmail.com
Looking for something like this: Replace ".com", =LEFT(9) or whatever will take out the "moe10134@" and the ".com" leaving only hotmail.

I have a column list that I need to seperate. The Text has both a title and location separated by an = sign. The cells look like this...
BlahBlahBlah = Location1
I would like to take the text after the = sign and place it in the next column so that all that is in it is...
Location1
The Location varies so the RIGHT function won't work.

You know how you can combine different cells and concatenate their values? Can you reverse that? For Example, I have this value "Yambao, Mikhail P." and I want to break them apart so I can use "Yambao" as a reference value to fill up other information concerning that name.
