How To Replace Or 'copy Over' Names To Unique Identifiers
Jan 20, 2009
Have a long list of patients with visit details recorded - over 3 years worth
Many patients are seen multiple times, there is an age recorded also to ensure the same names can be 'set as distinct for different ages'
Need to replace (or add another column) the name field with a unique identifier so that we can ensure the same person has the same identifier.

Our unique identifiers are from SF.com... they have created unique Account ID's.
Comp Name Unique ID
Company A - 5102AA
Company B - 5102Aa
The problem:
Excel does not recognize the capital A and the lowercase a as being different. I need to pull this data out and bounce data across tables for analytics.
The Question:
Is there any way I can get Excel to recognize 5102AA and 5102Aa as being DIFFERENT ID's?

I would like to add a column from another spreadsheet which also has unique identifiers - but some may be missing and there may be some missing so cannot simply cut and paste over
Merging the two sheets by this unique identifier?

I have a sheet with employee attendance (in hours attended per session) at professional development. Each row in the sheet represents one employee-session. The key columns are as follows from L-R:
Employee ID, Provider, Date
Note that if an employee has attended multiple sessions, each is represented in its own row.
What I would like to do is have each row represent an employee, and have an individual column for each session. This way, if an employee has attended multiple sessions, I have their hours of attendance all in the same row.
So far, I have figured out how to transpose each unique session into its own column header, and I have entered a VLOOKUP function to get the hours of attendance for each session in its respective new column. But these are still spread out over separate rows for each employee. Again, I want to essentially collapse these rows into one row per employee.

I am a hobby programmer trying to automate data entry into SAP. With GUI scripting switched on, i believe it is possible to get the unique identifiers of any field or control on a SAP screen. I am wondering if there is a dll or some mechanism whereby i would be able to get a tree structure of control identifiers for a particular screen so that i would not need to go through each control individually.

I’m having some problems writing a macro,
I have a spreadsheet with 2 columns. The first column is the index number (unique identifier) of the second column’s data that will repeat itself as many rows as needed. Let me try to exemplify it:
Column A (index)Column B (text)
1 AAA
1 BBB
1 CCC
2 DDD
2 EEE
3 FFF
3 GGG
3 HHH
3 III
I’m trying to write a macro that will merge the text of each identifier in the first row it appears. The result I’m looking for is:
Column A (index)Column B (text)
1AAA
BBB
CCC
2DDD
EEE
3FFF
GGG
HHH
III
I already know how to make the merge, but I can’t get the logic to make it go through each row and merge the contents, since the number or rows for each identifier varies.

I want to be able to have a set of names replaced by one singular name, e.g.
Hilton monkeys
hilton monkeys on top
Hilton Power
Hilton jimmy
Hilton jimmy on top
Hilton jimmy on top with bananas
Marriott jimmy
Marriott jimmy on top
(ofcourse these are made up!). What I would like is to group the names to simply 'Hilton' and 'Marriott'. There must be a way of doing this, so I don't have to select all the separate cell numbers. Is there a simple way. I have tried using replace in Excel and that doesnt allow me to do it. Macros must do, but I'm trying to avoid having to write 5000 scripts selecting each particular cell. Is there any way of doing this?
Surely the 'replace' function should do it with some key character like replace hilton * with Hilton??? Thats all I want, but there doesnt appear to be that option.

I have a database output file where one of the columns contains managers names, often more than once. I want to apply an autofilter on manager name and then copy the result to another sheet or sheets. My criteria for the autofilter is a variable pointing to a list of names that at present I maintain by hand; a for-each-next loop then cycles through the names.
What I would like to do, before running the autofilter code, is to create the list of names via code. This would then automatically pickup names that are missing.
The code I have so far is below:
Public Sub find_managers()
Dim managers1 As Range
Dim names1 As Range
Dim n1 As Variant
Dim n2 As Variant
In my mind it should check the names in the unique list against the imported list and add any missing names.

I have a VBA find and replace question
I have a spreadsheet with cognitive tests (approx 300) that have been given names like
w3_th_e
w4_th_e
dkefs_TMT1_e
pegboard_eh_e
What I need is a VBA macro that replaces the _e only at the end of the string to _ss for those strings that begins with w3_, w4_ and DKEFS_ (e.g. from w3_th_e to w3_th_ss)
Likewise I want to replace only the _e at the end of the string on all other names (e.g. pegboard_eh_e) with _t (e.g. from pegboard_eh_e to pegboard_eh_t) Is this possible?

I have an email list that I email. Sometimes I get some that doesnt exist anymore. So my program sends email out and respnods to me that says these emails do not exist and gives me the emails. So I manually have to go and find them one at a time on my list to delete by CTRL F. Is there a way to submit all email names to find at once instead of doing one at a time.

I have successfully loaded a combo box lookup in one cell referencing a column in another worksheet. While the drop down is pulling in all the names listed, there are duplicates in the data set. I want the drop down to only pull unique names. Is there a way I can do this and still use the combo box feature.

I have a spreadsheet with a series of names in a column and respective dollar values in a separate column. I would like a formula to automatically total the value spent against a particular name (without having to enter the name as a value each time).
Example
John Doe 3.89
John Doe 1.27
John Doe 0.98
Amy Smith 1.56
Amy Smith 2.29
Amy Smith 1.11
Alex Brown 0.67
Alex Brown 4.56
Alex Brown 8.87
I would like a formula to automatically populate a column, spreasheet, etc as follows:
John Doe 6.14
Amith Smith 4.96
Alex Brown 14.10

I need a macro that will look for a specific text string in the tab names of the workbook and replace it with a new specified text string (leaving the rest of the existing tab names). In other words, a simple find/replace but applied to all tab names in the workbook rather than cells. Ideally, I'd like it to pop up something and ask for the text to find and the text to replace it with, so I don't have to edit the macro itself each time I want to use it, but editing the macro each time is fine. Either way will be wonderful.

I'm making an excel file where I keep track of the scoring in a little competition me and my friends do with betting on sports.
However, I got a little problem trying to automate my ranking.
Naamloos.jpg
As you can see in the image, when there is a duplicate score, the name stays the same for every other same value (Joris). The formula I use (also as seen in the image) just takes the first name it comes across (from left to right) and keeps using that one. But I need it to ignore the name Joris the second time, and ignore Joris AND Tim the third time, so that every score/rank (even if the scores are a draw) has a unique name attached to it.

I have two different lists of names. One is about 3000 names long and the other has about 3500 names. I want to identify the 500 people that are not in the first list that are in the second. If there anyway to do this? I was going to put them in A-Z order and then go through and using an IF(A=B,"yes","no") and go through and insert new cell when ever it says no till it says yes BUT the functions start messing up when I insert a new row and it's taking way too long.

I've got a set of data that I update once a month and the number of team members per team changes all the time. I'm trying to write a formula that basically says, if the date matches AND the manager name matches, count the number of team members.
In the attached sample if A2 and B4 are found in the data set, count the number of SalesReps they have. So I'm looking at Sarah for February 2013, she has two sales reps that sold something, but Katherine appears twice, so I'm not looking for a result of 3, the correct answer is 2. How do I write the formula?
A2 will look to the data range of A14:A23 and SarahK will look to I14:I23, but I want to count H14:23.

I have been given a database with peoples names that require a unique number to hide/replace the name to hide their identity for a meeting and to act as a ghost system.
The problem i have is that some individuals names on the list appear more than once so i cannot simply call Joe Bloggs number 3 as he can appear further down the list at number 120.
I was wondering is there is a way to do this without manually replacing each name with a number and making and logging the persons name that corresponds to the number.
as there are 600 names and some can appear up to 4 - 5 times!

I have 1500+customer names in column C7 of table. I'm looking for a SUMPRODUCT formula that achieves the following 2 logical goals. First, it needs to determine the number of unique names in column C7. It can't just count the rows because many customers appear multiple times in the range. So, I have been using the following formula and it works great:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"")))
Second, I'd like the formula to tell me how many of the unique names in C7 correspond to public companies. Column C8 of my table indicates whether or not a company is public ("Yes") or private ("No"). So, I've been using the following formula and it seems to deliver the right result:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&""))
*
(COUNTIFS(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"",Table[C8],"Yes")>=1))
But the added COUNTIFS statement seems very unwieldy and indirect to me. Why do I have to examine every instance of a particular company's name when the answer could be determined by looking at any instance of the name -- after all, each company in C7 is either public or private, and has the same corresponding value in C8 (whether "Yes" or "No") everywhere that its name appears in C7!
So that's my first question: is there a clearer, more efficient way to achieve the same result? My second question has to do with toggling the public company test.
What if I create a special cell, say A1, that will always contain either the word "On" or "Off"........

Is there a way to export Excel (Excel 2003) into a flat file that is comma separated and also includes text identifiers, specifically double quotes (" ") around each field in a row?
The Export Wizard in Access makes that a snap but we (more than just me) haven't been able to make it work out of Excel.
