Ranking With Only Unique Names Attached To Values?
Apr 1, 2014
I'm making an excel file where I keep track of the scoring in a little competition me and my friends do with betting on sports.
However, I got a little problem trying to automate my ranking.
Naamloos.jpg
As you can see in the image, when there is a duplicate score, the name stays the same for every other same value (Joris). The formula I use (also as seen in the image) just takes the first name it comes across (from left to right) and keeps using that one. But I need it to ignore the name Joris the second time, and ignore Joris AND Tim the third time, so that every score/rank (even if the scores are a draw) has a unique name attached to it.

I've been trying to figure where I've gone wrong on this one for a couple days. Maybe you guys can assist.

I have a spreadsheet with a series of names in a column and respective dollar values in a separate column. I would like a formula to automatically total the value spent against a particular name (without having to enter the name as a value each time).
Example
John Doe 3.89
John Doe 1.27
John Doe 0.98
Amy Smith 1.56
Amy Smith 2.29
Amy Smith 1.11
Alex Brown 0.67
Alex Brown 4.56
Alex Brown 8.87
I would like a formula to automatically populate a column, spreasheet, etc as follows:
John Doe 6.14
Amith Smith 4.96
Alex Brown 14.10

I have an excel ranking 8 participants in a tournament.
In the excel you can see the people participating and there cumulative score next to their name.
What i want to do now is create a table that reads:
Cell A Cell B
1st place "name of individual with minimum points"
2nd place "name of individual with min points, from the leftover people"
""
8th place
I have used vlookup function, but I can either get it only to display first place individual but not the rest, sometimes it wont work because values of peoples scores have to be in ascending order.

I used the RANK and COUNTIF combination to get the unique ranking of a range. For example, the formula is:
=RANK(A1,$A$1:$A$890,0)+COUNTIF($A$1:A1,A1)-1
To my surprise, the failed to produce the results that I want. I attached a sample file here. Basically, the two ranks of 416 and 418 are not there.
A source below really shows the formula should work. [URL] .......

I'm trying to rank the values in cells S32:S38 in ascending order while ignoring zeros and negative values. I also need to rank duplicate values with a unique ranking, so that no ranking value is repeated. I tried the formula below, but the ranking values start at "2" instead of "1" and I can't figure out how to fix it.

I have a data base of numbers Columns C to K with values from Row 2 to 3766. I want to rank each of these columns by value 1 to 100. However, some of the columns will assign 1 to the highest value and 100 to the lowest. In other columns it will be reverse, 1 is given to the lowest value and 100 to the highest. I can do a rank by percentile but that's not the scoring I'm looking for. Also don't know how to reverse assignment of high or low values. One further note, some of the cells are blank in which case I want to assign a neutral score of 50.

I have a database output file where one of the columns contains managers names, often more than once. I want to apply an autofilter on manager name and then copy the result to another sheet or sheets. My criteria for the autofilter is a variable pointing to a list of names that at present I maintain by hand; a for-each-next loop then cycles through the names.
What I would like to do, before running the autofilter code, is to create the list of names via code. This would then automatically pickup names that are missing.
The code I have so far is below:
Public Sub find_managers()
Dim managers1 As Range
Dim names1 As Range
Dim n1 As Variant
Dim n2 As Variant
In my mind it should check the names in the unique list against the imported list and add any missing names.

I have a results table that i want to be able to rank into a simple list 1 - 4. However the results are not in cells beside each other.
I tried using a helper column and then the Large function, however cannot get it to work.
I have attached an example sheet, and in column L4 - L7 i would like to put the team names (taken from column B) into the right order from the results shown.
I have to replicate this over a number of different pools in a number of different divisions. This is just one pool.

I'm trying to let the code described down below to select 10 of the highest values and give them a ranking in the next column using the letters A to J.
My query;
The code gives all 10 of the highest values the ranking letter J instead of A to J, so what's going wrong?
Also, is there a way to simplify this code so it will be easier to maintain and run quicker?

I have successfully been able to rank items using two criteria but I'm unsure of the syntax for adding a third or fourth set. I'm new to the use of Sumprodoct.
I have attached a file. Where column C and E have the same value, I want Excel to look at column F and assign a rank (formula is in column K) in ascending order.
ACEFK
ItemLife LeftTot CostBalRank
signs1 250 250 1
paint curb1 500 500 2
tree work1 2,500 2,500 3
landscape2 9,000 7,200 4
siding2 9,000 7,500 4
Here is my formula:
=IF(ISERROR(RANK(C8,C$5:C$105,1)+ SUMPRODUCT(--(C8=C$5:C$105),--(E8>E$5:E$105))),0,RANK(C8,C$5:C$105,1)+SUMPRODUCT(--(C8=C$5:C$105),--(E8>E$5:E$105)))
I've attached a file.

I want the drop down to only pull unique names. Is there a way I can do this and still use the combo box feature.

I have two different lists of names. One is about 3000 names long and the other has about 3500 names. I want to identify the 500 people that are not in the first list that are in the second. If there anyway to do this? I was going to put them in A-Z order and then go through and using an IF(A=B,"yes","no") and go through and insert new cell when ever it says no till it says yes BUT the functions start messing up when I insert a new row and it's taking way too long.

Many patients are seen multiple times, there is an age recorded also to ensure the same names can be 'set as distinct for different ages'
Need to replace (or add another column) the name field with a unique identifier so that we can ensure the same person has the same identifier.

I am facing some problem with ranking formulae. Attached is a file illustrating them.
Problem 1: Ranking without zero I have a set of data for products. They have a number next to it. Some of the products have a ZERO value next to them. I want to rank the data in an ascending order while ignoring the products with ZERO value next to them.
Problem 2: Ranking on multiple factors I have a set of data for 50 products. There are 5 factors based on which I want to pick the best and the worst. Each factor has a value which can be a negative number, zero or positive number.
This is what I am doing presently: Ranking the products on each factor in a separate column. Points are assigned based on the ranking, i.e. if the ranking of "product A" on Factor 1 is 32, then it gets 32 points It is assumed that equal importance [weight] is given to each factor, thus average points is calculated based on ranking of each product on each factor. Average points are again ranked in descending order The top & bottom 10 are picked from this ranking.
Number of products and number of factors can be different for each analysis. Presently I am giving equal importance to the rankings for each of the factors, what if I have to give varied importance [weight] to the factors.

I've got a set of data that I update once a month and the number of team members per team changes all the time. I'm trying to write a formula that basically says, if the date matches AND the manager name matches, count the number of team members.
In the attached sample if A2 and B4 are found in the data set, count the number of SalesReps they have. So I'm looking at Sarah for February 2013, she has two sales reps that sold something, but Katherine appears twice, so I'm not looking for a result of 3, the correct answer is 2. How do I write the formula?
A2 will look to the data range of A14:A23 and SarahK will look to I14:I23, but I want to count H14:23.

I have been given a database with peoples names that require a unique number to hide/replace the name to hide their identity for a meeting and to act as a ghost system.
The problem i have is that some individuals names on the list appear more than once so i cannot simply call Joe Bloggs number 3 as he can appear further down the list at number 120.
I was wondering is there is a way to do this without manually replacing each name with a number and making and logging the persons name that corresponds to the number.
as there are 600 names and some can appear up to 4 - 5 times!

I have 1500+customer names in column C7 of table. I'm looking for a SUMPRODUCT formula that achieves the following 2 logical goals. First, it needs to determine the number of unique names in column C7. It can't just count the rows because many customers appear multiple times in the range. So, I have been using the following formula and it works great:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"")))
Second, I'd like the formula to tell me how many of the unique names in C7 correspond to public companies. Column C8 of my table indicates whether or not a company is public ("Yes") or private ("No"). So, I've been using the following formula and it seems to deliver the right result:
=SUMPRODUCT(
((Table[C7]<>"")/COUNTIF(Table[C7],Table[C7]&""))
*
(COUNTIFS(Table[C7],Table[C7]&"",Table[C8],"Yes")>=1))
But the added COUNTIFS statement seems very unwieldy and indirect to me. Why do I have to examine every instance of a particular company's name when the answer could be determined by looking at any instance of the name -- after all, each company in C7 is either public or private, and has the same corresponding value in C8 (whether "Yes" or "No") everywhere that its name appears in C7!
So that's my first question: is there a clearer, more efficient way to achieve the same result? My second question has to do with toggling the public company test.
What if I create a special cell, say A1, that will always contain either the word "On" or "Off"........
