INDEX Array Formula Returning Same Value?

Feb 18, 2014

I know I can do this as I have already succeeded once but since moving a few things on my spread sheet the formula has gone wrong and I can't correct it.

I have one sheet with many different lines on and another I would like to select certain rows with the same reference number in column A. Below is the formula I am using

=IF(ISERROR(INDEX(Lines!$A$2:$J$200,SMALL(IF(Quote!$AL$4=Lines!$A$2:$A$200,ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200)-
MIN(ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200))+1,""),ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200)),COLUMN(C1))),"",
INDEX(Lines!$A$2:$J$200,SMALL(IF(Quote!$AL$4=Lines!$A$2:$A$200,ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200)-
MIN(ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200))+1,""),ROW(Lines!$A$2:$A$200)),COLUMN(C1)))

what my error is as it is returning the same value for me each time.

Index Or Array Formula..?

Dec 2, 2008

I am trying a simple Index or Array formula and have been trying all day to get this work to no avail. The data is freight costs for shipping different size containers (20' and 40') to different ports (Lyndhurst, Port Coquitlam and Seattle).

I will have the port name plugged into one cell and the container size plugged into another cell and want to pull the corresponding freight cost out into another cell. The red text in the file are the data that I will plug in. The box below is where I would like the result.

Array/CSE Formula Using INDEX(MATCH())

Jan 26, 2010

Imagine 5 periods of sales, growing by $550 per year, from $250 to $2,250. There is a columnar table with sales in increments of $500 to $2,000 paired with margin percentages.

Using INDEX(MarginColumn,MATCH(Sales,SalesColumn,1)) successfully retrieves the correct margin % for each period where Sales is that year's sales.

So, I tried to construct an array formula in the following way:

{=SalesRow*INDEX(MarginColumn,MATCH(Sales,SalesColumn,1))}

Sales is not changing, so that only the 1st year's margin percentage is being applied to each year's sales. I confirmed this by extending the array to a multi-cell layout.

How can I correct the formula so that the margin percentage is looked up as if it were using each year's sales independently? I know I can just SUM the array once this works, but this is my current road block.

P.S. If you see this answer immediately, how might I multiply the percentages by the sales that increase by $500 and sum the whole expression into one cell?

Alternative To Index And Match Array Formula?

Sep 18, 2012

complex formulas in Excel but managed to work out and create the following formula;

{=IFERROR(INDEX('owssvr(1)'!$AE:$AE,MATCH($A9&AK$1,'owssvr(1)'!$C:$C&'owssvr(1)'!$E:$E,0)),"")}

Basically I want to return a call quality score if the name and week match my criteria.

The above formula works perfectly, however, it is very slow and the sheet takes ages to update.

Is there a quicker and more dynamic way to achieve the same result?

How To Ignore Blanks In Index / Match Array Formula

I'm using the following formula to look at a range of cells and return the most common text entry. The formula works fine as long as there is text; if there are more blank cells than entries, then it returns a 'blank' and my formula cell is empty. How to clean this up so that it ignores blank cells?

Formula To Return Array To Use In Index / Match Function?

May 8, 2013

I need to find a way to find an array in a tab to use for an index/match function I have.

this is what i would normally use: =index(tab_array,match($a2, tab!$a$1:$a$1000,0),match($B$1,tab!$a$1:$zz$1,0))

This formula would usually work fine when I know that within the tab, the array in which the row match is searching doesn't change. However, that array may change in the future, to say column H, without my knowing as it is a database that gets automatically populated from an upstream system.

Is there a way to search for an array within an index/match?

Array Formula - Index And Match With Multiple Statements

Jun 5, 2013

I am trying to understand how to use index and match in an array formula. Probably easiest to take a look at my example sheet. For some reason, the first result is working, but the others aren't.

Alternatively, here is a screenshot.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The formula I have tried is: =INDEX($E$3:$E$11,MATCH(1,IF($A$3:$A$11=G3,IF($B$3:$B$11=H3,
IF($C$3:$C$11=I3,IF($D$3:$D$11=MEDIAN(J3,K3,$D$3:$D$11),1,0) ,0),0),0),0))

confirmed with ctrl shift enter.

Max Index Lookup Returning Two Cells?

Oct 19, 2007

I have a formula I need to modify.

In column b I have a list of items by number, each one is unique
In column c I have a list of items by number. In this column a item may not be listed or listed 1000's of times.
In column d I have a list dates for each of the items listed in column c
In column e I have a list of prices for each of the items listed in in column c

The idea with the orginal formula was to look up the item and return the date

=MAX(INDEX(($C$2:$C$39999=B2)*(D$2:D$39999), 0))

Now I need to get it to return the most recent date from column d and the dollar amount right next to it from column e. How would I do that?

I trying to return the most recent date and price for a item.

I thought about breaking this into two formulas and having the second formula read the date that was returned from the above formula and the item number from column b and returning the value from e, but got stuck. I was thinking a lookup function with two criteria.

Match And Index Function Not Returning The Correct Field?

Sep 29, 2012

I am currently using the Match and index functions to search for specific criteria and return specific data based on that criteria. The problem is the formula is returning the first value at the beginning of the month rather then the end of the month value that I am asking for. I have my criteria set to zero so it should be a perfect match. with the live worksheet I have several tabs for different years. I want to take the end of month balance on each of those year tabs for each month in each fiscal year and add them together. My formula only has the one month because I am unable to get it to work much less adding in all of the years information. I have the employees choosing EOM for the last transaction posted during that month and that calculates the month number in the field next to it. I was thinking I could use the match to look for a specific month in that column and return the balance adjacent to it at that point.

Index With Multiple Match Formulas Returning Undesired Value?

Nov 20, 2012

I am building a tool for work, and in one of the sections of the main worksheet, I would like the cells to pull specific data from another worksheet that contains the results of a web query. The web query pulls a table of data, with a double header (rows 3 and 4). One column header is for the date and the other is for the time the data below corresponds to. There are also row titles along the left hand side.

I need a formula that will find the column that meets two conditions:

1) Today's date
2) A specific time (referenced from a cell on the main sheet)

It must then pull the data from the cell in that column that is in the row marked "Total".

Here is an example of the data set from the web query:

Excel 2010BCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZAAABACADAEAFAGAHAIAJAKALAMANAOAPAQARASATA
UAVAWAXAYAZBABBBCBDBEBFBGBHBIBJBKBLBMBNBOBPBQBRBSBT3
Total19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-
Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-
Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-
Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-
Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-

[Code]......

I have done quite a bit of looking on the web and tried out several different formulas/variations. I think I'm getting close, but just can't get it quite right. Here are a couple that seem close and their results:

=INDEX('Rodeo Data'!$D$5:$JS$50,MATCH("Total",'Rodeo Data'!$B$5:$B$50,0),MATCH(J3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,0)*AND(MATCH(TODAY(),'Rodeo Data'!$D$3:$JS$3,1)))

This one correctly finds the date and "Total" row, but seems to ignore the MATCH(J3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,0) section, which is designed to find the specific time in row 4. It returns either the "Total" row value from the first or last column with the correct date depending on which match type argument I use.

=INDEX('Rodeo Data'!$D$5:$JS$50,MATCH("Total",'Rodeo Data'!$B$5:$B$50,0),MATCH(TODAY()&O3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$3:$JS$3&'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,))

This one returns the standard "#N/A" error message.

I am using Windows 7 and Excel 2010. "Rodeo Data" is the name of the sheet that contains the web query data I have included. The J3 and O3 references are cells in the main worksheet that contain the time I want the match function to find.

The desired output from the formula would be if I referenced it to today (20 Nov 2012) and 19:45, it would return the value of 65,826.

It may also be worth noting that the number of columns and rows in the data set is dynamic.

Excel 2003 :: Returning Multiple Values From Index?

Apr 20, 2013

I am using the following formula:

=IFERROR(INDEX(drange,SMALL(IF(AND(qrange="SH",trange>30),ROW()-6),ROW(A1))),"")

to return the name (drange) of a person who was visited by "SH" (qrange), more than 30 days ago (trange).

There are faults in my formula, and if I'm honest I don't entirely understand it !

I need to return all of the names of people who were visited by "SH" more than 30 days ago. So I need the next value, and the next which is also over 30, by copying the formula down to the next cell and the next. My problem is that I get the first value (which is correct) and then the next ones are blank.

To make matters worse, the first value I get is only correct if i DON'T enter it as an array. If I do enter it as an array, I get the first row of the spreadsheet.

Returning Matching Value From An Array Based On A MAX Date.

Feb 25, 2010

I have an Excel spreadsheet (XP - 2007) listing Job Nos. in the first column, with several columns of Station assignments and dates.
Both planned dates and actual dates are included, adjacent to each other. The dates are not necessarily in a straight ascending or descending order. Separate arrays exist for: Plan Nametags, Actual Nametags, Plan Dates, Actual Dates.

Example:

Job No.Sta1 PlanSta1 ActSta2 PlanSta2 ActSta3 PlanSta3 Act1A10001-Feb-101-Feb-106-Feb-106-Feb-101-Mar-101A100116-Feb-1016-Feb-1019-Feb-1022-Feb-105-Mar-101A100225-Feb-1025-Feb-102-Mar-104-Mar-1010-Mar-10@
@
I need to capture two pieces of information for each Job No. on a daily basis:
1- The 'Planned' Station for the build, based on a match of the 'Plan' date fields to a pre-populated 'Report Date'.
I've been able to do this (using INDEX-MATCH function).
2- The 'Actual' Station location for the build, based on the Maximum 'Actual' date entry in the row for each build.
(In the example above, Job# 1A1001 would have an 'Actual' location of 'Sta2 Act'...)
I need to figure out how to accomplish step (2) above. I've made several attempts with INDEX-MATCH and LOOKUP functions, without success.
