Licence An Excel Spreadsheet
Feb 24, 2009
My specific question is:
I have a spreadsheet that I have developed specifically to help with different bank criteria and the processing of loan applications for my role as a mortgage broker. How can I set this up so that if I let someone use my spreadsheet on their pc that it can't be distributed and used by other people?
Further background:
The spreadsheet, to be fair, is not that complicated, and I am sure basic by a more experienced persons standards. But it takes into account the tax rates, investment loans, rates and payments for a range of banks and has taken time for me to produce. So if people are going to want it then I would rather protect my time and interests with a license or something?
Could I put in a hidden formula that links to a file stored locally to identify preferred users laptops?
I am interested in learning more about making the spreadsheet more advanced perhaps, but don't really know where to begin to learn how to do so.
how to advance my skills or the protection of the work done,

I am developing a spreadsheet that I am hoping to sell. It has a high probability of being copied by others, so I would like to somehow put a licence in the sheet. Has anyone had and success with doing this? I was thinking about generating some HEX number that includes the user name. I would give them the code and they paste it in a sheet with their name to unlock the sheet. Trouble is that they can copy the name and the code. Is there a way to find some unique ID on the PC itself? I want to license machines, not people.

Here is the scenario:
I have a primary excel spreadsheet that I work from. The architecture is as follows:
Sheet 1: Called "Information"
Column A: Name
Column B: Date of Birth
Column C through Z: Various bits of information.
Sheet 2: Called "Master"
Cell B1: Contains the date and time of last update from the VBA I am asking for below.
On a weekly basis I get sent a "Update" spreadsheet that is constructed the same way as my primary. This is what I would like to do with some VBA:
From my primary sheet I run the VBA and it opens a pop up that allows me to select the updated worksheet. Next it cycles through both worksheets (Primary and Update). It compares Column A and B, if it finds a match it updates columns C through Z from the "Update". In order to get a match cell A1 and B1 of the primary worksheet has to match Cell A1 and B1 of the update sheet exactly.
The second thing I would like it to do is if the update sheet contains a new entry...in other words the update sheet has a row that does not match the primary it copies the row from the Update sheet to the Primary. In this way, the Primary sheet is always growing with new information and updating any old information it matches.
The last thing I would like to do is copy the current date and time after the comparison is complete to the Primary workbook to sheet "Master" in cell B1. This way I always know the time and date of the latest update.

I am looking to eliminate an old process of having to use paper with a log sheet just because a signature is required. I have already created the spreadsheet, but I am now looking to find what secondary device I could use to insert a signature. This log is used daily with three signatures per worksheet.

Is there a way to name pictures when I paste them into an excel spreadsheet? I have a macro that references picture names, but they are always Picture 22 or something random. Is there a way I can name them myself so they are a bit more logical?

Is it possible to open an OpenOffice spreadsheet in Excel while keeping all formulas?
At the minute when I try this, Excel just opens the spreadsheet with the values of each cell from OpenOffice (the results of the formulas) and not the actual formulas themselves.

Is it possible to download search results in Windows 7 to an Excel spreadsheet? I searched for file names that started with a specific alpha character in a specific folder using Windows 7. The results came back with several hundred file names. I'd like to create a spreadsheet with columns for the file name and the sub folder name that contains the file. Is that possible?

to convert a complex Excel file to a Web App (usable in the browser of a iPad) which has 15 sheets and some input.I tried every javascript/jquery library, tried to hire a freelance, asked for a quote everywhere, tried add-ins, etc. Nothing seems to work. Manually, well, it is pretty impossible within 2 days.

Any way to produce a report per row of an excel spreadsheet. For example if my spreadsheet contains the names of 10 people in column one and lots of columns of data per person. Is there an easy way for me to pull all that data to produce a one page report for each person listed with the data within it?

I am looking for a macro that can export excel spreadsheet data to html. I found one that looks perfect for my needs on another site, however it will not work. I have tried to contact the site's owner, but his site does not seem to be contactable any longer. I thought I would try to post my problem here. The script gives me runtime error '76' and debug highlights the following lines:
Open pagename For Output As fnPrint #fn, top$;Print #fn, body$;
Original script is as follows:
Code:
'
' Here are some values you can set to suit yourself
'
' Any file names that are blank -- i.e. "" -- will not be used
' and will not adversely affect the appearance of your page
'
Const html_title = "Interesting Web Sites" ' appears here
Const page_title = "Some of my favorite 'places' ..." ' shows on page
[Code].....

I've encountered another error when trying to run this macro to extract images from a spreadsheet. As the macro is running during the process it has stopped and I get the runtime error "1004": "Methid "Publish" of object "PublishObject" failed.
When I Debug it highlights the text below.
Sub Test()
Dim Folder As String
Dim Pic As Picture
Dim FileName As String
[Code]....
Alternatively if I click "End" it opens an extra excel window and displays an image from the original sheet. With the workbook labelled as the product code.

When I put form controls onto a spread sheet is there anywhere I can easily see and access its properties? Format Control is lacking many values and I do not see them in the vba project toolbar. I am trying to get checkbox locations and checkbox numbers if possible. If there isn't an easy place to see these is it still possible to get the checkbox locations in VBA?

I am trying to set up a spreadsheet that pulls all the data from an existing spreadsheet on a networked drive. The spreadsheet on the drive gets updated occasionally by about 10 different people. I am trying to set up a duplicate of it on a local machine so that a single extra column can be added that no one else can see.
So far I am able to get the data from the spreadsheet using data connections, but it won't copy across the comments or any of the colour formatting. The colour is not as important, but the comments are vital. We use Microsoft office 2007 here, on windows 7 enterprise.

I want to have 2 spreadsheets in File 1.
The first spreadsheet will contain a form that needs to be filled out by a user for a specific car. In the second spreadsheet, I want to have a list of the cars that have already been filled out in a form before.
So example, someone with a car got into an accident and the report is filed under vin:1234 and vin:1234 is added to the list in the second spreadsheet.
A couple days later another accident report is written up, but when the user enters vin:1234 in the form, it will notify the user that vin:1234 has a report already written up on it. The notification also asks if they want to open the file containing vin:1234. When they click 'yes', it will open the file and allow them to either use the current report for their own, or modify what was already entered.
Is this possible to do within excel? I would constantly update spreadsheet 2 with the vins that have been used to keep it as a database.

i need to find the missing numbers from 12 rows of 20 numbers.
ie, i have these numbers (only between 1-80) and need to find the *normally* 2 numbers that are not in that list between 1-80. there are 14 rows in this example
134810131417182832464855565758596475
412131417212223303235374044545861707880
57101117202528303435363940495155606264
35121823254148495051565860646670767879
311161719212225262829404447586063697578
126713162326353638394652535863707678
710172021272930414445464750515569727374
[code].....
these numbers wont be the same every time, but in theory after i enter 12 rows there should be only 5/6 numbers left max.
i need a script so that when i copy/paste 12 rows, i can be presented with the numbers not in that field. or even if i have a field of 1-80 displayed, then i copy paste my numbers in the fields below and can somehow highlight which numbers between 1-80 aren't in my pasted fields on the 1-80 field.
btw the numbers missing here are 24-68
ps im using excel starter 10 if that makes a difference

I'm have Excel 2010 and Windows XP. Each week I get 3 spreadsheets and each has data unique to it. Each spreadsheet has a week number column which is common to all three. I want to combine the three worksheets into one and make create several dynamic charts for management. How should I organize a large spreadsheet? In addition to my week number I have a host of other date fields. Some of the data I get is (1) vehicle VIN numbers (2) City/State/Country (3a) I break up the VIN to give me vehicle type (3b) year of assembly (3c) car type (3d) number of doors (4) mileage (5) complaint (7) defect code etc. etc. What are the do's and don't when setting up a large spreadsheet? I have data by week which goes back to 2006 and so my date fields go top-down. I inherited the three spreadsheets and would like everything under one roof, so to speak. One spreadsheet which I can make my charts.

I need to insert a drop down box into my spreadsheet, and depending on the option selected, the formula used to calculate the value into another cell changes. How do I implement this in Excel 2007?
To put this in context, I need a list of acids in cell C3. Depending on the acid selected, the formula used to calculate acid concentration in another cell (D3) changes. I need a way to implement this.

I'm using Excel 2007, and when I add attachements to a spreadsheet cell (e.g. a saved email) nobody else can open the file when viewing the spreadsheet. Is there a way around this?
Currently I'm inserting it by going Object > Create from File > Browse > Select File > Display as Icon. But if the spreadsheet is emailed to anyone else or put on a staff website nobody can open the attachements.

Open a brand new spreadsheet whether the format is set to "General" or "Text" it will not let me enter numbers. For example, when I enter 2007 in the cell it displays 20 07 not really that big of space between the two zeros - but still a space. I can't format this no matter what I do.

I recall a few years ago that I located a program that allowed me to create an Excel spreadsheet and share it with others, but that locked the spreadsheet after a given period of time. I need to create a spreadsheet, but I want to put a time frame on it which requires users to request an access code from me every so many days. I don't want users in my business to be able to take the spreadsheet and use it should they leave the company. I know there was a subscription program that allowed me to do this, but I can't recall the name of it. It also allowed Excel to hide all of the formulas, even though the calculations worked.

My spreadsheet looks normal and I've been using it for months. Today some of the text characters print out as boxes with a question mark. I tried another spreadsheet with the same result. I reset the printer and re-booted my pc with no luck. I did try the Q&A and used =CODE(MID(A1,1,1)) which resulted in 68. But I don't know what to do next.
By the way, the spreadsheet does not show the question marks, only the print out.
