When I open any saved Excel file the saved file opens along with a blank workbook titled "Book 1". How can I make it so when I open any saved Excel file it only opens the file I want and not a new workbook every time?
When I open a saved excel file I am having a problem with one workbook opening(a blank one), then the box saying that the program contains macros, and then the second actual workbook opening. I do not know what I changed somewhere alone the line, how to make just the one workbook I want (the second one) to open?
I have a problem, where every time I close or open any workbook, Excel prompts me to "Enable or Disable Macros" in one particular workbook, wether I have tried to open it or not. In the said workbook, I have a macro that automatically updates a pivot table upon selecting the worksheet where the pivot table resides.
The code for it is as follows:
Sub UpdateIt() Dim iP As Integer Application.DisplayAlerts = False For iP = 1 To ActiveSheet.PivotTables.Count ActiveSheet.PivotTables(iP).RefreshTable Next Application.DisplayAlerts = True End Sub
Private Sub Worksheet_Activate() Call UpdateIt End Sub
There is something in the code that calls UpdateIt any time a workbook is opened, closed or selected.
I'm using a macro to open an other excel file to get data from it. this goes by Workbooks.Open Filename:=totalopen (totalopen =Filepath & filename earlier defined) Because the opening file can have the same filename, my question; is it possible to open the latest/newest saved file? So also look at the saving date/time of opening excel file.
I have numerous spreadsheets that I need to open and unhide a sheet, that has XML data stored in cell A1. What I need to do is copy that data in cell A1 and paste it into a text document and save that as an XML file saved as the XLS workbook name with a date stamp.
I'm running into many issues, the main issue is the saving as current file name, and the formatting of the text/XML file.
Here is my current code, which doesn't reference the current file name and is just very generic. Once I get the saving as file-name correct and the formatting of the xml file correct, I will work on it a bit more.
Code: Sub Test() Dim Rng As Range Dim wb As Workbook Set Rng = Range("A1:A2") Set wb = Workbooks.Add With wb Rng.Copy
I am trying exactly the same things stated in here Open two workbooks at the same time as stated in the other thread's answer I would love to "just use the Workbook name IF both Workbooks are in the same folder." both files are in the same folder and this is the code that I am trying to use
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Workbooks.Open ("toto1234.xls")
and it does not work any one explain me what I am doing wrong?
I have a need to open a file from my companies intranet. My current method was to open said file via the method that the recorder gave me. However, I would like ot be able to open a said file without having to start open another workbook.
This is the path: [url]
So the command is this: Workbooks.Open [url]
Links are not actual links
So what I need to know. Is how can I open this file without opening a workbook. I haven't been able to use the VB "Open Statement" to open a file and I don't believe that I've been successfull using the Filesystem object either.
I currently have the following code that copies a range opens notepad pastes the range opens save dialog and types the file name. The problem I have is with overwriting the existing file.
I was wondering if you can make a popup open when a user opens a spreadsheet. I have some templates i made and users continue to make the same mistakes. I was hoping to add a form/pop so when the file was opened a popup would come up with reminders. Once they press ok they can proceed.
I have code in VBA that takes a source Excel file and parses it to multiple re-formatted worksheets. Each formatted worksheet is different depending on a variable in the source. There are n of each type of data (1:n Water Sources, 1:n Water Treatment, 1:n Water Storage). Each item needs a copy of a blank re-formatted worksheet appended to the end of the existing data-type worksheet. For example: Water Source #2 is appended to the bottom of Water Source #1 on the same worksheet.
Currently, I am opening the blank re-formatted workbook each time an additional variable of same type is found in the source file. Meaning, if there are 8 Water Sources, I am opening and closing the blank re-formatted workbook 7 times to copy a blank Water Source to the bottom of the Water Source worksheet and then populate the data. AND if there are 3 Water Treatment, I would open and close the blank formatted workbook 2 more times to copy a blank Water Treatment to the bottom of the Water Treatment worksheet. The same goes for Water Treatment.
Obviously, a huge waste of resources and performance. I would rather open the blank re-formatted workbook once (first time an additional worksheet is needed), use the worksheets as needed, and close it at the end.
Attached is my current, working code of the above.
How should I re-write it to check if the blank workbook is already open use it, if not open it?
Code: Sub Add_Facility(ByVal Worksheet_Name, Copy_Range, Max_Limit) Dim Last_Row As Integer Dim Source_Range As Range Dim Dest_Range As Range Dim wkb As Workbook
I am trying to educate myself in the wonders of Excel (2003) and an struggling somewhat.I have a small project loosely based on a shops stock control and have attached a copy of the workbook -
The user normally only has access to columns B, C and E due to the others being locked and the sheet protected.I would like the sheet to be automatically sorted based on column E each time the workbook is opened.I then need to automatically delete a row once an item in column B has been removed (made blank)
I have an external .xls file I'd like to copy to a new directory from within VBA. I know how to create the directory, but is there a way to do it other than opening the required file, and doing the " saveas" thing?
I have a range named "start" and I have a form named "fMenu". I have used this same code in other spreadsheets to have the userform automatically become visible when the spreadsheet is opened and it works in other workbooks. Apparently I have been struck with the stupid stick this morning. I have a hotkey of "M" and when I use control M the form shows up and the macros invoked by each button on the form are working properly.
Sub open_menu() Application.Goto "start" fMain.Show End Sub
I was wondering if anybody could catch an error in the following code. I have a file, let's call it a "Guide" which is opened by user and at this time this file has only one purpose - to help user choose the program. After clicking on the "Choose Program" command button, an Inputbox appears where the user types in a program. Then the code should open the file with this program and this is pretty much it. But something is not working with the code below, and I do not see anything wrong with it after looking at it for so long. It just does not do antthing. how to handle the "Choosing" option
Private Sub CmdBttn_ChooseProgram_Click() Dim sFilename As String On Error Goto ErrorHandler sFilename = "Approval_" & Application.InputBox("Input Program") Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Documents and SettingsjsmithDesktop" & sFilename & ".xls" ErrorHandler: 'if file name does not exist error message should display. Not defined yet End Sub
I need to combine AHK and Excel, and in this I came up with the solution to save my parameters in a file, and let the workbook autoload it when I open the workbook. To do this I need to pass a command line parameter, or working directory to the workbook, as I will be using many different work directories for this to make sense.
This is only a matter of how to execute my workbook so that the path is included (and usable) to the working directory
I have tried
..workbook-name.xlsm /p "workdir"
But it results in a "grey" version of Excel aka. Excel is open, but no workbooks are.
I have also tried
excel.exe workbook-name.xlsm /p "workdir"
But this did not work either, and is not an option as we use both 2007 and 2010 at my workplace where this is intended to be used.
I can do it very easily by using absolute paths in the Excel auto-load, but as I have explained already this is just not an option.
I've created one file, that acts as a launching file. It does several things, including environment validation, and downloading new files from a web repository, etc... Once it has done everything it needs to do, it launches a 2nd file (the main user input file - which is tied to an external DB), fires the start-up routine in that 2nd file, then quietly gets out of the way.
This all works perfectly, unless the 2nd file gets closed before the start-up routine is finished. (this could happen for several reasons, including invalid login credentials). I've oversimplified the issue below: ...
I do routine tasks every day which involves opening 3 different files and pasting data into my main file. The data is always in the same format, and the 3 files are saved in the same location (3 different folders through). The 3 files are saved each day and the naming convention is constant, with only the date changing. For example, the files are always saved in C:My Documents and the files are called test_05.02.2013.xls. Tomorrow the file will be called test_06.02.2013.xls and so on.
So each day I will be rolling a file forward and I want to bring in the info from each of these files based on the new day.
How to do 1, and I will do the others (because the concept will be the same).
When I had Excel 2010 and now with Excel 2013, whenever I open a workbook, it opens and displays to the row AFTER the last row of data. (So, if my last row of data is 38205, it will open starting at row 38206...hence I see no data until I hit Ctrl+Home). I have not found anything about this on the internet and I cannot find a setting. I need Excel to open to A1 so I don't freak out every time I open a workbook and see no data.
When I click the general Excel program icon that use to just open a blank excel workbook, it now always opens the same existing file (apples.xls) If I am clicking on a different existing file (pears.xls), excel opens pears.xls and apples.xls.
This is a follow-on to a great solution provided by Shg and Rylo. Here is the link. http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...new-sheet.html
My users have run in to an interesting issue with the file. Each time the files opens it has the same 5 questions selected. What I need the code to do is randomize the questions each time the sheet is opened. Basically, the users seem to have a problem using the "make quiz" button, so they have requested that I make sure that the quiz randomizes each time it is opened.
I have a function which selects a file and opens it.It is part of a code.
Sub Cpy() ' Macro recorded 1/16/2007 by PZCHFR Set PresentWorkBook = ActiveWorkbook FSel Findlastusedrow Cpy_Name getmonth
End Sub
Function FSel() filetoopen = Application. GetOpenFilename("Document Files (*.xls), *.xls", 1) 'Workbooks.Open Filename:=filetoopen 'Set OpenedWorkBook = Application.Workbook(filetoopen) Set OpenedWorkBook = Workbooks.Open(Filename:=filetoopen) End Function
When the user does not select any file and clicks "cancel" in the dialog box,this gives me runtime error .How do i make the code correct so as to handle the case where there is no file selected.
How do I run this I can not get it to work I keep getting errors this is the way I have it for now.
Private Sub ThisWorkbook_Open() MY_MONTH = Month(Now()) + 5 With Sheets("Master List") .Unprotect ("123") .Columns("A").Locked = False .Columns("A").Hidden = True .Columns("T:IV").Hidden = True .Rows("265:65536").Hidden = True .Columns("E:Q").Locked = False .Columns("E:Q").Hidden = True .Columns(MY_MONTH).Hidden = False .Columns(MY_MONTH - 1).Hidden = False .Columns(MY_MONTH - 1).Locked = True Dim ws As Worksheet For Each ws In Sheets([{"JAN","FEB","MAR","APR","MAY","JUN","JUL","AUG","SEP","OCT","NOV","DEC","2008","Read Me","Record"}]) With ws .Protect ("123") End With Next End Sub Compile error: Expected End With
I need a code that will automatically run my first macro. The first macro already calls all the others. I just need everything to run as soon as someone opens the file.
In the following code, What do I need to add to allow the selected file to open when I click on it? I have a drop down menu that lists my .xls files.....as of now when I choose a file nothing opens.
Sub Auto_Close() On Error Resume Next Application. CommandBars("Patient List").Delete On Error Goto 0 End Sub
'================================
Sub Auto_Open()
Dim cb As CommandBar Dim ctrl As CommandBarControl
On Error Resume Next Application.CommandBars("Patient List").Delete On Error Goto 0
My workbooks contains 2 worksheets with data and autofilters on for each column in use.
When my workbook opens I am trying to reset the autofilters of each worksheet in the workbook and to filter the data according to one criteria in one column.
This is what I have that works to reset each worksheet but I haven't been able to figure out how to subsequently filter each worksheet.
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Application.ScreenUpdating = False For Each w In Worksheets w.Unprotect If w.FilterMode Then w.ShowAllData w.Protect DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True _ , AllowFiltering:=True Next w Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub
The autofilter sits in A3 to N3 and I am trying to filter according to column M (i.e. 13th column)
I've created an add-in that runs a simple macro. The problem I have is that when I run the add-in it opens the workbook I originally created it from - is this what I should expect it to do? How do I stop this from happening?
Also, do I need to have the workbook from which I created the add in located in the same place on every machine I want to use the add in on? At the moment if I move the original workbook the add-in won't work.
Need VBA code to save column J of open workbook called LmbcAcctsPayable.xls, Sheet1, to same workbook & sheet called LmbcAcctsPayable.xls, Sheet1, when save is not selected.
Reason: The workbook is usually not saved because it is more of a templet with names in column A. Column J is updated with a date when a row is used so I need the column J to copy automatically to the blank templet when exiting without saving (using ThisWorkbook.Save = True in Auto_Close). That way, rows not being used for a long period of time can be periodically eleminated.
