(see attached sheet with dummy example)
eg: any cost falling on April 3, sum them and give the total amount.
I can achieve this using iterations of the following formula:
The below piece of code carries out a vlookup on a defined cells value and produces a result in sheet one, however if the column index number in sheet 2 (Database) is empty the result 00/01/1900 is produced.
I'm not sure how to say leave the result blank if the column index number is blank.

Database = Tab 2
I have a spreadsheet pulling data through from Access (in a Pivot Table format), but Excel inserts the string "(blank)" for empty fields. How can I stop this, and have Excel leave them truly blank?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a simple date formula that I want to present "yes" in a cell when another cells date is less then or equal to "Today". I just can't figure out how to make it show my result cell as blank if my date cell is blank?
here is my formula....
=IF(G8 <= TODAY(), "YES", "")
Using one spreadsheet with three date columns and two columns counting days.
If there is a value in Resolution date, then Column N is blank
If there is no value in Submit date and Resolution date, then Column N is blank
If there is no value in Resolution date, and there is a value in Submit date, subtract Submit date from todays date to show how many days it has been pending approval
Created on = J4
Submitted on = K4
Resolution Date = L4
Days to Approve = M4 I've got that formula =IF(L4="","",L4-K4)
Days Pending Approval= N4 (cell with formula)
If Resoultion Date L4 has a value, return blank
If Submit on K4 and Resoultion date L4 are blank, return blank
If Resolution date L4 is blank, and Submit on K4 has a value, subtract Todays date from Submit on K4 to show Days Pending Approval
Cell J4______Cell K4______Cell L4__________Cell M4__________Cell N4
Created on___Submit On___Resolution Date___Days to Approve___Days Pending Approval
4/5/13_______blank______Blank____________Blank___________Blank
4/5/13_______4/5/13_____4/7/13___________2_______________Blank
4/5/13_______4/5/13_____Blank____________Blank___________()Today-K4
I have a formula in my spreadsheet that shows dates for servicing of products. Column F show's Date Last Serviced and the adjacent column (G) then shows Date Next Service. When there is nothing on the F column's cell then the date that appears on my spreadsheet is 31/12/00. It looks messy and I would rather have a formula to make it so that if the F column is blank, then the adjacent cell in G column should stay blank also.
To automatically calculate the next service due date, I have variants of this formula that creates the dates in G column:
=DATE(YEAR(F4)+1,MONTH(F4),DAY(F4))
I tried adding as an extra part, for example:
=DATE(YEAR(F4)+1,MONTH(F4),DAY(F4))&If(F4 = 0, "", F4)
It always brings back the answer of 366, and does not make the cell blank...
I have been struggling with my Excel 07 Date format. Nearly every time I perform a calculation, enter in a value etc in a spreadsheet my answer is returned as a date. So for example if I enter in a cell: = 5 - 4. I get the answer "1-Jan-1900" instead of 1. I have to manually set the formats to general or number if I want the correct format. The setting seems to be the default one and occurs for all workbooks I open. What can I do to change this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a function that will display the average of a row of cells, while at the same time not displaying any error messages. It's easy to average cells without blank values, but to combine that with no errors is difficult for me. I saw many ways to do the average, one of which is:
= SUM(A1:E1)/COUNTIF(A1:E1,">0")
That function doesn't work for a row of blank cells (i.e., hidden rows), though. The result is an error message.
I also read about a way to ignore an error in a computation:
=IF(ISERROR(F1),"",F1)
The problem is when I combine those functions I get a blank cell no matter which function I put first, and without regards to cell values or not. The reason I want this to be error-free is that I have to average the "average column" at the bottom of the table, too (i.e., F100).
make an adjustment to my Formula so that if the Index match locates a cell that is blank it returns a blank cell rather than a 0. I know we need to add in =IF(iserror( but i am aving trouble..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)
So I have a Workbook that I want to make read-only/protect after a certain date. I also want to force the user to have macros enabled. So far I have the following script, but despite changing it to read-only it doesn't seem to do anything. I have also tried to enable protection on the sheets after that date, but am getting errors.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have one column that contains an If statement formula and would like the next column to then work off of the first column (i.e. if that 1st column returns a value then then adjacent column uses that result).
What is happening now is that it is returning #value (because I guess technically the cell isn't blank?)
how can I prevent an entry in a cell even without formula lets say cells B1 , C1 , D 1 , E1
I want to prevent an entry in these cell and if you try an error message will display
What formula can I use to accomplish the following, if it can be done.
If B9 is 100% all the rest of the % cell inputs would be 0%
If B9 is less 100% ,lets say 50% all the rest of the % cell inputs would be less than or equal to 50% until any sum of those cells equal to 100%
in which case if I enter 50% on B9 and 25% on D9 and 25% on F9 their total sum would be 100%.
If I try to enter a % on H9 it should not allow me to do it
because then the total sum on O9 would be more the the original amount on A9
The attached file contains hypothetical data on a basketball player's success from the free throw line. It lists the number of free throws attempted and the number made and then divides the number made by the number attempted to calculate the free throw percentage. However, I keep getting a # DIV/0! error in the games free throws weren't taken. How do I write the code so that when the error occurs, a message is displayed to the effect that no percentage can be reported because no free throws were attempted by checking the cell in column D? How do I use the IsError function to figure this out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a maths workbook in Excel. I want the user to workout the answer in his/her head and enter the answer into Excel. The only problem is, of course, that there is nothing stopping a user from simply typing a formula to obtain the answer! I have tried all data validation, apart from Custom which I can't figure out. Is there a way to prevent a user entering a formula on a worksheet?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need an IF formula, that states if a date is more than a month after the date in the cell then it is timely and if it isn't then it is not timely. For example the date in A1 is 12/11/05, if the cell is A2 is 13/12/05 (or any date after that) then A3 should read Not Timely, if A2 is 12/12/05 (or any date before that, including a date before the date in A1) then A3 should read Timely. Is there any way to do this?? At the moment I am having to go through manually and put in either Timely or Not Timely.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an issue where Formulas Referencing Cells on another sheet are getting changed automatically to refer the the moved cell data. The formulas on a sheet (2) refer to specific cells on sheet (1) within my workbook. I update Sheet(1) data with a macro. When sheet (1) updates, the present data gets shifted to the right.
In other words, I need to prevent the formulas from changing to reference the moved data values and keep referencing the initial cell with the new values. xample of change that occurs with update:
Correct:
I am using following code to effect a change which works fine:
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Sheets("Closed Flts").Unprotect "abcd"
Sheets("Faults").Unprotect "abcd"
[Code].....
But when the sheet is unprotected to effect this change the formula in cells ( row I and L) are visible to user and can delete them. Or they can even delete the cell itself or modify formula.
The formule in Row I is
Code:
=IF(A12="","",IF(G12=1,A12,IF(G12=2,A12,IF(G12=3,A12+1,IF(G12=4,A12+5,IF(G12=5,A12+28,"priority?"))))))
And in Row L is
Code:
=IF(A13="","",IF(I13
I have a vlookup which checks another sheet and imports data. The formula is as such:
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(B17,Data!A$1:$C$40,3,FALSE)),"",T(VLOOKUP(B17,Data!A$1:$C$40,3,FALSE))) .
The problem I have is when I paste and amend data on sheet Data! it changes the formula to
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(B17,Data!A$1:$B$40,3,FALSE)),"",T(VLOOKUP(B17,Data!A$1:$B$40,3,FALSE))) .
How do I prevent it from doing this?
I'm using the following code to delete columns:
Dim rng As Range
Dim i As Integer, counter As Integer
Set rng = Range("1:1")
i = 1
For counter = 1 To rng.Columns.Count
'If cell i in the range contains an "x",
'delete the column
If rng.Cells(i) = "x" Then
rng.Cells(i).EntireColumn.Delete
Else
i = i + 1
End If
Next
My problem is that I have cells in other worksheets linked to the worksheet that is running this macro and everytime I run it, I get a handful of "#REF" errors. I think this problem might be solved if I could simply delete the contents of the column rather than deleting the entire column. How can I modify my code to do this?
The following attacted program is a name generator. It randomly generates names from the Roster sheet to the shuffle sheet (to be randomized) then displays it on the watchbill sheet. The problem I'm having is that the names seem to be repeating themselves before the entire list is used at least once from the roster sheet. I need all the names to generate at least once then have it fairly repeat the names (but not in the same columns on the watchbill sheet). Can this be done using the formulas I have? I've been trying to figure this out forever, its just a little beyond my level.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am in need of 2 validation macros (formulas) to enter into the validation criteria formula box when creating a custom validation.
1. A formula that will generate an error if there is a space in the text entry. Example:060107_Halo3CG prev.mpg would be an invalid entry due to the space after CG.
2. The same formula as above but this one also needs a 50 character limit added to the criteria.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a series of worksheets, named, 'sheet1' 'sheet2' etc. through to 'sheet10'. A final worksheet, 'sheet11' has been produced that uses the formula: address=Sheet1!A1, address=Sheet2!A1, address =Sheet3!A1 etc. The same goes for other identical cells on each of the sheets. I am at the moment entering each cell on 'sheet 11' separately because if I copy the formula down it progressively changes the cell value and not the sheet number. How can I produce a formula whereby the cells remain identical but the sheets change progressively?
