What I want to be able to do now though, is somehow, when someone sends the document back to me, create an FTP queue. I can do this with BulletProof FTP, because it allows really simple text queues. So, what I need excel to do is, when someone has finished selecting their files, is write the results to a text file like exactly like this (without the Line1:, etc.):
Line1: <text from D2>
Line2: 0
Line3: 0
Line4: 0
Line5: ?
Line6: <text from E2>
(then repeated for each row in the excel document until column A is returning blank)
I'm trying to do something very simple, but I haven't had any luck searching for a function in excel that will let me do it.
Column A is a list of directories on a server, i.e. 01april, 02april, etc. Column B is the path to those main directories, i.e. /raid0/data/documents/april/ Column C is where users can can type "1" if they want the directory or leave it blank if they do not want it selected. Column D, if the corresponding row in column C=1, will show the complete source path/filename based on Column A and Column B. Column E, if the corresponding row in column C=1, will show the complete destination path/filename based on Column A and Column B.
This is all working fine.

Seems simple enough.. Any ideas?
Also, an extra question--> is there any way I can make Excel list a directory structure automatically? Could it display the file size for the entire directory? I don't necessarily want it to list every file, just the directory paths and size of each directory.
I need to be able to convert a large spreadsheet to pdf for sending to a commercial printer. The spreadsheet is a family tree and covers an area a1 to ca107. The printers normally do the conversion from an emailed copy of the .xls file but charge for this.
Printing will be done on a wide carriage printer so the pdf has to be one sheet not a large number of a4. I have a copy of Acrobat but cannot work out how to get the spreadsheet to save as one sheet.
I need to restrict printing & saving functionality on a excel spreadsheet that is shared with a large group of people.
I was also hoping for the restricting save part, to do an AD lookup to see if they are a member of group "X", if they are then allow the save, if they are not then deny the save.
I am trying to take a spreadsheet and have each row print on a seperate page - without having to do the print area thing on each row. Is there a way to automate this process?
Is it possible to download search results in Windows 7 to an Excel spreadsheet? I searched for file names that started with a specific alpha character in a specific folder using Windows 7. The results came back with several hundred file names. I'd like to create a spreadsheet with columns for the file name and the sub folder name that contains the file. Is that possible?
I have a spreadsheet in which I do calculations, I need to do them many times and want to record on another spreadsheet the results of two cells. I would like to show the results as a string of values.
I want to filter my results using a combo box on my spreadsheet. I don't mind how this is done, even if it just hides all of the information which isn't relevant. I've done it with a VLookup but I want to be able to edit it easily without the formula popping up. So if you click Barlcays, only barclays appears. I'd also like a button to reset if possible. I've attached an example of how I sort of want it to work.
I have to create a series of drop down lists with choices on it for people at the company to fill out to see how much time they spent on each type of project. The plan is to have people fill out a "daily form" to see how much work they did that day, and have the results of that feed into a "monthly form" to sum up how much they worked that week. One of the aforementioned drop-down lists have them choose between three categories of work, M, N and B.
I have to make it so that in the monthly form, the results from the daily form segregate themselves into the different M, N and B tables in the monthly sheet. To make it more clear, on the daily sheet, there is just one huge table. For each row, they are to input what type of work they did, how long they worked, etc. On the monthly data table there are three different tables, one for M, one for N, and one for B. I want to have the entries from the daily spreadsheet to feed themselves into one of the three tables in the monthly spreadsheet depending on whether M, N or B was chosen.
2nd File Location: U:My Work FileName: 333.xls Worksheet Names: Pro _Ser1 Ser1 (A1) value= db Ser1 (B1) value=1
What I want is a master spreadsheet to 'suck up' data from all the Ser sheets within all Workbooks and populate the master spreadsheet with Column A =A1 Values from all the Workbook, Worksheets Column B=B1 Values from all the Workbook, Worksheets
When I am writing a formula that includes a lookup, it returns the # NAME? error in the spreadsheet. If I delete the trailing ), retype it, and hit enter then the formula returns the correct value. How do I get the formula to work correctly as it is written to the sheet from VBA!
Here's the line of code that writes the formula to the worksheet:
I have two Spreadsheets, lets call it Spreadsheet 1 and Spreadsheet 2.
Spreadsheet 1 has a list of partial employee names in column A. Spreadsheet 2 has a list of 500,0000 full employee names in column A and their phone number in column B and address in column C through E.
Basically what I want to do is do a wildcard search for the partial employee name, so like lookup Spreadsheet 1' Column A's *name* in column A of Spreadsheet 2. Based on the number of matches. I want to insert that many blank rows underneath the partial employee name, and paste those matched rows there, then continue to the second partial employee name lookup and repeat the process.
I am using OCR software to convert .tiff files to .xls files. In Excel I wrote a macro that executes upon encountering certain errors however I can't figure out the code I need to make Excel print the original .tiff file even though they have the same filename just different file extentions (tiff vs xls). I have all the necessary code except how to call the original .tiff file and print it to a printer.
The results of the formula in cell K36 in the attached spreadsheet returns a value of null. It should be $1,200. Am I blind or have I done something wrong. I just can't see the problem with the formula.
I have an existing spreadsheet with a column of strings (actually VIN numbers). These numbers correllate to a bunch of text files, that can exist in one of three folders (UsernameDesktop1, 2, or 3) on my desktop. What I need the macro to do is:
1) get the filename from A2 (A1 is a heading row) 2) Find the appropriate text file in one of the three folders 3) Put the folder name into I2 4) Scan the text file for some strings, and copy some data that follows those strings into J2:O2 (I can handle programming this) 5) Close the text file 6) repeat above for the remainder of filenames (about 1800 files)
All detail data begins in Row 6 in the detail spreadsheet.
In the Summary spreadsheet, it appears to make a difference where my calcs are located in order for my COUNTIF's to work correctly. As long as I keep my summary calc (to total the number of work orders in the detail) in Row 2 of the Summary, it works fine...but if EITHER I move my calc down a row OR if my detail drops down a row because a row was added above (where I have just header info), my summary totals change?!?! I don't understand.
Here are two examples of the calcs I'm using in the summary:
=COUNTIF(WO_Num,">0") =COUNTIF(GM_X,"X")
Can someone tell me what is going on? What I'm doing wrong?
I use this code to make text not visible and it does work well using matching font color (fcolor) and cell color (icolor), but this leaves one issue. When I print the text it is no longer hiden by the matching colors.? I was hoping to use -4241 to set the color to no color,(invisible?) but now it produces errors.
Private Sub Worksheet_Calculate() Dim icolor As Integer, fcolor As Integer, Target As Range, FormulaCells As Range
Set FormulaCells = Range("a4:a104")
For Each Target In FormulaCells Select Case Target Case "one" icolor = 37 fcolor = -4142 Case "two" icolor = 27 fcolor = -4142 Case "three" icolor = 35 fcolor = -4142 Case "four" icolor = 45 fcolor = -4142
Got a slight problem; I am making a "worker-plan", where you should be able to write a name on one file and have it updated (removed) from the equivalent columns on another file automatically. Here's an example with two separate projects:
Project 1 before and after changes: Attachment 257366 Attachment 257367
Project 2 before and after changes: Attachment 257368 Attachment 257369
You can see here how I intended it to work. When one worker is moved from Project 1 to Project 2, that worker should also be removed from those weeks in Project 1. The previous worker from Project 2 should also be removed from those weeks (in Project 2).
Are there any formulas that can make this work automatically? All week numbers will belong to the same columns in all files.
Edit: There are 30 files that should be syncronized, not just two.. I could also gather all files into one file with sheets, instead of having seperate files.
I have a couple of basic macros that edit formatting in a sheet that I want to send out to various people. The problem is, when I change the file name of the worksheet - the marcos stop working as they refer to the actual original file name.
Could someone please advise if (I am sure it must be somehow) it is possible to emmend the Macros in some way so that they continue to work regardlesss of what the end user decides to name the worksheet.
I would like to know if there is a way to print several different workbooks at once but keeping my printing format which I would like to be Landscape and Fit to one page. Reason is simple as I work in a office where staff is handed in several jobs to do everyday. They finish the jobs and log all the info on the database. I log on to database and put all their daily diaries and because it is all over the place I have to go in each file and set printing preferences which takes an hour in the morning and hour in the evening. I could do with some sort of automation where all diaries are automatically printed in Landscape and Fit on one page.
I have a report that is generated from a manufacturing process that looks like the example below. the report is 40 pages long when all the data is printed. i am looking for a way to only print this range if a dimension is "out of tolerance". if the dimension is within tolerance, there is always the "garbage" text of plus and minus. if every row is "within tolerance" in the range the cells in the OutTol column would all contain the "garbage" text but it will not always be identical. so, in summary, actual OutTol values = print and all "garbage" = not printed.
I want Pivot Table Drill-down result in New excel file. when I have a pivot table, When I double click any data cell, the result comes in the new sheet(Drill-Down) of the same file BUT I want the same result to come in a New Book (a new excel sheet) and not in the same file.
She has a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (she is still using 2003) which contains an image with a textbox in the top left corner then all other cells contain data.
When user prints this spreadsheet all that prints is the image and the textbox.
I have cleared the print area reset the print area removed the picture (prints only the text box)
and none of these changes have changed what prints.
I have checked all printer setting and these appear normal.
previously user could print this spreadsheet fine and all other worksheets in the workbook print fine as well.
other users are still able to print to the same printer correctly from this spreadsheet.
I have a spreadsheet with thousands of lines of code. Each row contains a complete code that needs to either be converted/pasted to a new .txt or .xml. Until now, just copying and pasting each line into a .txt file was necessary but there has to be a way to automate this. I would love to know if it's possible to extract each row(technically it is only a single cell per row, so its just a really large single cell) and add it to a .txt or .xml file?
I'd like to write a VBA script which writes all data of my mp3s in a spreadsheet. I can read all data like the artist, songname, album, year, this works fine. However I'm not able to get the duration of the mp3 files. Any sample script which reads the duration of the mp3 files?
