SUMIFS To Sum Cells If Reference Cells Are Blank?

Dec 19, 2013

I am trying to use the SUMIFS function to sum the cells in one column if the cells in a reference column ARE blank, and if the cells in a different reference column fall within a date range.

-Column F contains currency, and is the sum range
-Column H contains dates as well as blanks, and I need the criteria to look for cells that ARE blank.
-Column A contains dates, and I need the criteria to be <= 01 Feb 2013 and > 31 Dec 2012

This is the formula I have tried, but it keeps adding the cells in F if the cells in H ARE NOT blank. Clearly, it's an issue with "<>" and probably a very simple solution, but I just can't figure it out.

=SUMIFS('2013'!F9:F59,'2013'!H9:H59,"<>",'2013'!A9:A59,">"&DATE(2012,12,31),'2013'!A9:A59,"<"&DATE(2013,2,1)

Fill All Blank Cells Above Subtotaled Reference Cell

Any other way of subtotaling data. I am an inventory analyst and do monthly/quarterly totals and averages of inventory used, and need a quick way to fill the blank cells with the part # that is below them, as shown below. I need the part #'s so I can then use CONCATENATE() and pull data from multiple time periods so the part #/year will match up down the page.

Cell Reference- Able To Reference Two Cells To The Left Even As More Cells Are Added

Jun 11, 2008

I have 5 columns set up: A,B,C,D,E
D is the sum of A and B
E is the sum of A,B,and C

As I add in a new column to the right of C (call it C2), I need D (which has shifted over one) to sum A,B, and C.

I also need E (which has also shifted over one) to sum A,B,C, and C2.

Essentially I need a function in a cell that will be able to reference two cells to the left even as more cells are added.

How do I go about getting these results into a named range so I can use it on validation since validation only seems to ignore truly blank cells and not the "" ones.

Fill In Blank Cells Referencing Non-Blank Cells Above

Apr 17, 2008

I have sporadic cell values in a column. I will be describing the lamen logic I use to fill in these blanks manually. Find the first nonblank cell in the column, then look for the next nonblank cell in the column. I count the number of blank cells in between. If even # of blank cells, then I give the first half of the blanks the value of the first nonblank cell and the second half of the blank cells the value of the next nonblanck. If odd # of blank cells, then I do the same with the exception that the odd cell that falls in the middle will be randomly designated the value of the either first or second nonblank cell.

Fill Empty Column Cells With Reference To Adjacent Cells

I would like a macro that when run, finds empty cells in a column within the used range and fills them with the same formula in the other cells in the same column but relative to the row.

I have a basic understanding of VBA so if someone can set me on the right track i'll have a go myself as i appreciate this would take a while to write out from scratch.

Find Function Not Working On Cells Which Reference Other Cells?

I am using the find function to establish the row number in a spreadsheet for an edit process.

Code:

the cells in Range("B:B") are linked to another worksheet. If I copy paste values on the cells in Range("B:B") the code above works a treat.

Excel 2003 :: Conditional Format Top / Mid / Bottom 33% Of Cells But Ignoring Blank Cells

Mar 25, 2012

I am trying to conditionally format the top middle and bottom thirds of a range of data. Problem is, that the range needs to be flexible as sometimes there may be a maximum of 36 cells with data, but sometimes there may be less (so there are blank cells in the range that need not be counted). The methods I have tried always include the blank cells, and so it is not equally formatting the thirds (as it includes the blanks cells as part of the bottom data)....

Here are the 2 methods Ive tried so far using excel 2003)
Top 34%:
=IF(INT(COUNT($D$3:$D$38)*34%)>0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D
$38)*34%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D
$38)*67%)),MAX( $D$3:$D$38))0,LARGE($D$3:$D$38,INT(COUNT($D$3:$D

I am using Excel 2010 and basically i am trying to fill a range of cell with a green color if any value was enter in a specific cells. Example: I would like to fill range: A10:c13 with a green color (regardless of the cells content in this range) if a value was entered in cell C10 or C11 or C12 or C13.

I've tried conditional formatting but unfortunately I'll have to apply formatting for every cell and for a range of over hundred cells is not efficient.

Copy Data In Non-blank Cells Within Range And Paste Into Cells On Another Worksheet

Jan 19, 2012

I have data in some of the cells within range A26:A39

These cells are populated via an IF function on another worksheet. Even though the cells appear blank (as in the value returned is ""), there is a formula in these cells. I think it's called formula blank?

I am looking for a way to copy the data from the cells within the range which are not blank (ie: not = "") and paste this data elsewhere on the sheet in a list with no blank spaces in between.

I anticipate that there will be 4 non blank cells within this range.

Ideally I would have data from the nonblank cells copied and pasted to cells

Count Number Of Blank Cells In Range Starting And Ending Will Cells That Match String Values

May 13, 2013

I'm trying to develop a new daily timesheet for my production workers, where non-production items are recorded in 15 minute intervals. The user would put in "Clock in" by the corresponding time, and the same for "Clock out" at the end of the day. Any non-production items will be type in next to their appropriate time. Since clock in and clock out times will vary, I need to set up a formula that searches the array of cells for the day, finds the "Clock in" and "Clock out" values, and counts any blank cells in between them. Basically the blank cells will equal production time, and the result of the Count function will be multiplied by 0.25 to get the hours.

I am having a very difficult time finding a way to set the "Clock in" and "Clock out" cells as the range for the Count function, because it won't always be the same cells. What would be the best way to automatically have excel find the cells containing these values and set them as the range criteria for a Count function?

The formula at the bottom was one of my initial attempts, but it didn't work. I took out the '=' for the screenshot, so that wasn't the problem.

Macro To Combine Cells In A Row To 1 Cell While Skipping Blank Cells

Jul 2, 2014

I need to combined all non blank cells in a given row into 1 cell. But within each row i have 5 phases that the values fall into, which is denoted by the 1st charter 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. for example, in a given row i have 1-a, 1-c, 2-d, and 1-f and these values occurs in non consecutive columns starting from G to ALR. I need a macro that sorts these values in one of the 5 phases. So in another sheet the macro would combined [1-a 1-c 1-f] in Phase 1 and [2-d] in phase 2. and if there are other phases it would put them in the appropriate cell.

However, in addition to what the macro already does, it is possible to add another work sheet in the same work book that outputs the values in separate cells? It also has to output the data in order: for example, in the first work sheet the data is inputted at random and has spaces but the macro will have to remove all the blank cells and output them in order based on the first value in the test string, 1, 2, 3, 4, and then 5;

Ignore Blank Cells Zeros And Error Cells From MIN Function?

Oct 24, 2013

I have a spreadsheet for which I have to set up a formula to get the minimum value from a range of cells, but that range can include blank cells, errors (#DIV/0) and zeros, all of which I want to be ignored. I can work out how to ignore EITHER the zeros

(=MIN(IF(C10:G100,C10:G10)),

or the error cells

(=MIN(IF(ISNUMBER(C9:G9),C9:G9)),

How to exclude both. If I try to combine both of these exclusion criteria it doesn't work and I end up with the answer #DIV/0, which is one of the values I want it to ignore.

I would like a comma or full stop and then a space between each item merged (cell A5).

The text to be merged may appear in any one of the four cells (cells A1 to A4). Those cells without text are blank.

Only where all 4 cells are blank, will I need cell 'A5' to indicate this.

The formula needs to be relative as I will need to copy the formula down the spreadsheet so that it applies to additional rows.

Color Blank Cells In A Row Between 2 Cells With Specific Number

Jan 31, 2013

I have a similar question regarding coloring of empty cells between two cells with specific numbers as posted in below thread : [URL] .....

This is exactly what I want. But here I have some problem with formula.

=COUNTIF(A1:Z1,1)=1

Above formula could pick cell value 1 and color the empty cells in a row between the cells having value=1. But if I want to use the same formatting for other numbers like 2 or 3 it doesn't work.

For example in row(A1:Z1) I have A1=1, D1=1, and F1=2, K1=2, and O1=3, U1=3

I required multiple conditional formatting that could color the cells based on values first from A to D then from F to K and finally from O to U.

I'm using above formatting it works with cells having values 1 but its not working for 2, 3 or any other cells values.

I have already tried replacing 1 in above formula with 2 and 3 but it doesn't work.

Add Values Of Cells From Different Columns To New Column Only If Cells Are Not Blank

Feb 28, 2014

I have an excel file and what i want is to sum two different columns to a third one, however there are some important notes:

1. Column A has dates

2. Column B has numbers f.e. 25, 30, 35 etc. , which have to be added to dates of column 1 , so a new date will be created in the new column

3. Colums A and B are not next to each other.

4. Some cells of column A and column B are blank , actually columns are sth like this

A B C
5/2/2014 25
blank blank
8/5/2014 35
10/9/2014 30
blank blank

When a date value occurs in a cell of column A , then always a number will occur in column B

When a cell is blank is column A , then the respective cell of column B will also be blank

What i want is to add values of column A and B to create column C automatically ( each column has 1000 cells ) , however in case of blank cells , i want a blank cell in column C, not something like #####

Apart from this , i want in the future , when i expand column A and B , when values are entered there, i want column C to be created automatically.

The table will be like below.

So the macro should select between F2:F6. (then another macro will copy F6:A3 and cut-copy this range to another sheet); and when I re-run this macro this time it will copy the range of Model B..

Calculating Sum Of Cells Only Where Adjacent Cells Are Blank

Oct 17, 2008

For yet to enter, the total is the sum of all the numbers in column M but only when both column F and column J are blank. At the moment, my accounts run from row 6 to row 142, with the first line of totals in row 145, however this is constantly expanding.

Color Blank Cells Between 2 Cells With A Number In Them

Apr 20, 2008

creating this code or fomatting in my excel file. I want to fill color in cells between the two cells that has value of say "1" or anything in it. There will be only 2 numbers at any time in any row that has the value in it. All other cells will have value of "0" or can be changed to empty cells. So, the formula should check from say range "A3 to Z3" in row and for example it gets the first numbered cell in C3 then it start filling color from C3 cell until it reaches the other cell in that range that has the number in it. Say the row "A3 to Z3" has 1 number in C3 and other in cell H3 then it should fill color between this two cells from C3,D3,E3,F3,G3 and H3.

Using Cell As Array Reference In SUMIFS Formula?

Feb 11, 2014

I have a report for which I would like to set up a Quarterly summary section. There are 6 working teams listed in my table and I have created two cells with data validation to allow me to specify which team and for which quarter I would like to pull data. My intent is to have a formula in one cell which can extrapolate the quarterly team information based on the values in the data-validated cells.

My worksheet is set up so that:

The data table (tblD) contains metrics for all teams for the full yearTeam names appear in Column A of the table and the reporting month appears in Column BCell M10 has data validation so that the only choices are: Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4Cells X1:X4 contain the quarterly values mentioned aboveCells Y1:Y4 contain array references, so that Cell X1 = Q1 and Cell Y1 = {"January", "February", "March"}Cell N10 contains a VLOOKUP which returns the appropriate array from Column Y based on value in Cell M10Cell L11 has data validation so that the only choices are the 6 team names

Now I was able to get quarterly information by manually typing the 3-month array into my formula like so:

Code:
=SUM(SUMIFS(tblD[TU5],tblD[Team],$L$11,tblD[Month],{"January","February","March"}))

BUT! When I try to use a formula which points to the VLOOKUP cell (N10)--thus allowing me to make the display dynamic--the result is always 0.

Code:
=SUM(SUMIFS(tblD[TU5],tblD[Team],$L$11,tblD[Month],$N$10))

While inspecting the formula in the formula bar, I noticed that the values listed in the array appeared with double quotes (i.e. "{""January"",""February"",""March""}"). I tried every permutation of typing the array in the lookup cells I could think of, but none would allow my formula to properly calculate the total I needed.

{"January", "February", "March"}
{January, February, March}
January, February, March

Although I don't often utilize arrays in my formulas, I do employ them from time to time. I'm hoping there's some factor I might have overlooked which keeps my formula from working. is there an issue preventing array references stored in cells from being used in formula?

Return Blank Instead Of $0.00 In Sumifs

Feb 26, 2010

Shortened for example;
I have created a drop down list with gas, groceries and travel as the categories.
column a is labeled expenses and formatted as currency.
column b is labeled category with the drop down list in each cell.

column d contains each item, gas, groceries and travel on separate rows.
column e will contain the total for each item in column d using "sumifs formula".

If there are no travel expenses, instead of returning $0.00 I want the cell to be blank.
I know how to do this in a simple sum function but sumifs are sumthin else.
I have tried using <> for not equal to and everything else I can think of and I usually get a VALUE error.
how do I get it to be blank instead of $0.00???

Reference Cells Into Merged Cells

Nov 6, 2013

I have a spreadsheet list that has no merged cells. I need to copy that spreadsheet into another spreadsheet where each row is actually 2 merged rows. I thought that I could manually reference the first few rows, then drag them down to copy and hope that excel would be smart enough to pick up the pattern. But it doesn't, and keeps copying over every other row. Is there a way to quickly copy a spreadsheet with individual rows into a spreadsheet with merged (two rows) cells? Seems like it should be doable.
