For reference, I’ve attached a sample spreadsheet. I’m trying to find a way to calculate the max number of blank cells between a range of cells. As an example, in row two of my data, the result would be 3 using the range of F2:N2. Can this be done without the use of VB?
I'm trying to develop a new daily timesheet for my production workers, where non-production items are recorded in 15 minute intervals. The user would put in "Clock in" by the corresponding time, and the same for "Clock out" at the end of the day. Any non-production items will be type in next to their appropriate time. Since clock in and clock out times will vary, I need to set up a formula that searches the array of cells for the day, finds the "Clock in" and "Clock out" values, and counts any blank cells in between them. Basically the blank cells will equal production time, and the result of the Count function will be multiplied by 0.25 to get the hours.
I am having a very difficult time finding a way to set the "Clock in" and "Clock out" cells as the range for the Count function, because it won't always be the same cells. What would be the best way to automatically have excel find the cells containing these values and set them as the range criteria for a Count function?
The formula at the bottom was one of my initial attempts, but it didn't work. I took out the '=' for the screenshot, so that wasn't the problem.
I need to count the number of non blank cells in a column and add a text string to the result to show, for example, "75 Clubs" as the result. I have tried "=Count(A1:A90) + Clubs" but this does not work.
I have a spreadsheet that contains given answers to a multiple choice test. I want to count the number of times each possible answer has been chosen at the bottom of the column. I have tried to use COUNTIF and that works fine to give me the number times each answer has been chosen but there is just one annoying thing. If the given answer hasn't been chosed by anyone, a "0" is automatically entered into the cell. This tends to really clutter up the spreadsheet and I would prefer for the cell to be left blank if the answer hasn't been chosen by anyone.
The closest I can come up with is: {=IF(D1:D10="","",COUNTIF(D1:D10,"A"))} but unless the answer "A" is chosed in D1, the cell remains blank.
If "A" is chosed in D1, then the formula works and counts all the rest of the cells that have "A" as an answer.
I am looking for a formula to count 2 blank cells (and return the value as 1 rather than two) but only when the cell preceding has data in it. eg in A11 there is data but in A12 & A13 it is empty = 1. PS If you are on the boards Jim I will email you an update when I get home tonight.
But I dont want it to count the cells if the entire row, within that cell, i.e. C6:AD6, is blank.
It should only count the blank cells within a row if there has been some data entered on that row..provided it has been entered within the specified range.
I have a similar question regarding coloring of empty cells between two cells with specific numbers as posted in below thread : [URL] .....
This is exactly what I want. But here I have some problem with formula.
=COUNTIF(A1:Z1,1)=1
Above formula could pick cell value 1 and color the empty cells in a row between the cells having value=1. But if I want to use the same formatting for other numbers like 2 or 3 it doesn't work.
For example in row(A1:Z1) I have A1=1, D1=1, and F1=2, K1=2, and O1=3, U1=3
I required multiple conditional formatting that could color the cells based on values first from A to D then from F to K and finally from O to U.
I'm using above formatting it works with cells having values 1 but its not working for 2, 3 or any other cells values.
I have already tried replacing 1 in above formula with 2 and 3 but it doesn't work.
I have a range of 30 cells in a row. From that row there are groups of cells that have data that might be 1-7 cells populated in a row and in between these groups are blank cells in the row. I need to see what is the highest number of cells in a continuous row that contain data, what the mode is for continuous cell counts, and what is the average value for the data from the continuous cells. The average is a nice to have but not entirely necessary as most cell data will be fairly similar and I can get a close enough average just by knowing the average number of cells that contain data in a row. I have to do this calculation for about 1000 rows of individual data so its important a formula fit in one row.
Almost need a count function to count starting with each cell and then stopping at the first no no value it finds. Then it would show those counts and I could run a formula to pick the highest count and also show the mode of counts.
I will let the experts at it!, my weak mind could not think this one through. I thought something to do with MATCH for a while but no go from what I could do.
I am trying to create a dynamic chart with the offset and counta functions. I want to automate the data population and use formulas to get new data. I need to know how to use counta in the named ranges to not count cells with formulas that return "".
I need either VBA or an Excel function to count the cells in column B between blank cells and put the result of this count in the (formerly) blank cell. For instance, 3 would show up next to ABC and 4 next to XYZ.
creating this code or fomatting in my excel file. I want to fill color in cells between the two cells that has value of say "1" or anything in it. There will be only 2 numbers at any time in any row that has the value in it. All other cells will have value of "0" or can be changed to empty cells. So, the formula should check from say range "A3 to Z3" in row and for example it gets the first numbered cell in C3 then it start filling color from C3 cell until it reaches the other cell in that range that has the number in it. Say the row "A3 to Z3" has 1 number in C3 and other in cell H3 then it should fill color between this two cells from C3,D3,E3,F3,G3 and H3.
I was curious if it is possible to give a single cell multiple number formats based on what the number is in the cell. So for example if my number is bigger than 1000, I would like to use comas so that it looks like this 1,000. However, if it is less than 1000 I would like it to look more like this 999.00.
how to create a macro that will count blank cells. I've tried several different variations of a basic 'count cells' macro, but I can't seem to find the right one.
If anyone would be kind enough to post a solution VBA, I would be extremely thankful, and so would my superiors. I'm an intern trying to get my foot in the door, and this would certainly be a first major step for me.
I have a spreadsheet where I'm trying to determine the number of weeks that have transpired since the last sale of an item. COUNTBLANK is the direction I started in but it only shows the number of blank cells, it doesn't count the blanks until it recognizes a numeric value and stop. Essentially, I need a "count until x happens" function.
I've attached an example to walk through the issue. The weeks are across the top, the item number in col A, and I've put the result I'm expecting in col B.
I have data in some of the cells within range A26:A39
These cells are populated via an IF function on another worksheet. Even though the cells appear blank (as in the value returned is ""), there is a formula in these cells. I think it's called formula blank?
I am looking for a way to copy the data from the cells within the range which are not blank (ie: not = "") and paste this data elsewhere on the sheet in a list with no blank spaces in between.
I anticipate that there will be 4 non blank cells within this range.
Ideally I would have data from the nonblank cells copied and pasted to cells A40 A41 A42 A43
I am creating a chart and want to get a count of only the blank cells in Column D only if there is information contained in Column A (same row). I am using Excel 2003.
If nothing is put into say D5 D6 or D7 but something is put in D8 then i would like E8 to become 1 as it is the first to be filled. Then when D9 has something in it, it becomes 2 if D10 has nothing in it it gets left blank but when d11 has something in it e11 becomes 4 counting the blank cell in between.
So what I have is an unknown number of rows, starting at row 2. The first row (row 2) contains information from A2:M2 but all rows after this in column M will be blank up to a particular row. What I want to do, is count how many rows are blank in the column M up to the last blank cell and fill this with a specific word. I have attached a basic layout workbook to show what I want. There is a comment on cell M3.
I have a master sheet which shows from Jan to Dec (in 1 sheet), so I did a break down on each tab e.g Jan (First Tab), Feb (Second Tab), etc.
So basically now i have some cells that are blank, in the breakdown sheet which i copied from the master copy.
i use counta but it returns me 140 instead of 130(manually calculated). im guessing that is because in every cell of Jan tab i have "=master!D1" in it.
This formula counts how many dates in the range match the month in cell (Q3). How do I get this formula to to not count empty cells. I keep getting $VALUE! as my answer when I include all the cells in the range.
This is the formula: =SUMPRODUCT(--(P20:P976-DAY(P20:P976)+1=DATE(YEAR(Q3),MONTH(Q3),1)))
This is the formula in the cells of the range that is being used above: =IF(D26="","",IF(F26"",F26,IF(I26"",I26,IF($Q$3"",$Q$3))))
I needed this formula to leave the cell blank if all the data cells were blank that's why I have =IF(D26="","", at the begining.
