I looked for a way to represent my data in a cleaner way than this but couldn't find any tools....a point in the right direction would be helpful. I guess the old plug-in that converted Excel->HTML isn't available?
Column A is a finished product and B-D are the ingredients to make it however values in Column A are also ingredients (sometimes multiple times). I want a formula that searches for values in Column A within the table B1:D5 and returns an array, if possible, of the finished products where Column A was used.
For example, searching for Sugar would return "Flour, Water". Searching for Water would return "Milk, Eggs" (I'd rather not have Milk listed twice but beggars can't be choosers).

I'm looking for a formula to search for a value in the SECOND (instead of first) column of a table array and return a value in the same row from FIRST (instead of the same or another) column in the table array. Formula would be searching for the unique production order number in the column B and return production line id from the column A.
A1 production line_id
B1 poduction_order_number
A2 L1
A3 L2
A4 L1
B2 505212
B3 504234
B4 505663
I was trying vlookup(504234;B2:A4;2;0) to make formula go search from right columns to the left but then excel is switching the search table to A2:B4 and gives #N/D!
One remark-there is no possibility to switch these 2 columns to simplify. I have to leave them as they are.

I have a formula which I took from another post to return a particular value in a specified cell as follows;
=INDEX(A1:E9,M3+MIN(IF(A1:E9=K3,ROW(A1:E9)-3)),N3+MIN(IF(A1:E9=K3,COLUMN(A1:E9)-1)))
However I don't understand what the -3 and -1 does and I believe it is these entries that are causing the error.

i wish to have a result of the below.
there are random dates in a column say D6:D17 in the format of (10/02/2014), there could only be one date in this column array or there could be several, like:

12/04/2014
17/06/2014
5/12/2014
i also have an aray below this in cells D19:D30 With the "A" column showing the months Jan to Dec.
i wish to look the array of D6:D17 and populate the below cells corresponding with the months only, see example below. the reason for this is i wish to then turn the cell green with conditional formatting if there is a date in that month fro the original array.

I want to search a data set and return the maximum value based on 3 criteria using (array) formulas.
Say the data set contained the following:
Row 1: column headings (date, name, data 1, data 2, data 3, etc)
Column A: dates
Column B: names
Columns C through G: data
I want to find the maximum value for a given name, in a certain month, and a nominated data column (e.g. data 2). For example:
Month = June
Name = Geoff
Data column = Data 2
Max value = ????
All of the data in the data columns is numeric.

In a large spreadsheet that receives external data, I have codes (U, N or V) allocated at various times to different rows as shown in sample worksheet attached. Elsewhere in the spreadsheet, I need to display (for later export) these codes along with their respective number in a sorted list. Please review the attached:
In the spreadsheet you'll see a column of codes, the next column is the data reference number, then to the right is three columns, one for each code. As displayed in the sample book attached, each Code column is to display the data reference number (from column 2)that matches that column's code.
What formula can I use to list these numbers in the appropriate columns?

I have a complex list of text (a chart of accounts) with various roll ups for subtotals on one worksheet, and monthly download on another worksheet showing the name of the account and the value. I wish to use match the text to return the value in the front sheet and avoid taking the simple route of linking the cells in case additions are added during the year.
I've tried using IF and VLOOKUP formulas without success - i guess becasue I cannot sort the table in descending order?
What would be the best sort of formula to search using the text, and return a value on the same row?

I have my data arranged in a table on sheet1 as shown below.
Columns B to H contain the hours each person normally works on the days of the week Sun to Sat. In columns I to O are the hours that each person has booked as holiday for that week.
On sheet2 I would like to be able to enter a holiday day in C1. In A3 to A15 I would then have a list of all the people who will be working on that day and in C3 to C15 have a list of the people who are on holiday so the output on sheet 2 would look like this.
Basically I'm after the formulas for A3 and C3 that can be copied down the column depending on how big my table gets. I am using Excel 2010.

I have sheet 1 that in cells V5:V20 is a data validation drop down box. In cells W5:W20 I have another data validation drop down box. On sheet 2 I have a table that in column A matches the data in the drop down box's in column V on sheet 1. Row 1 on sheet 2 data matches the data in the drop down boxes in sheet 1 cells W5:W20. What I'd like to do is on sheet 1 Cells Y5:Y20 have a VBA code to lookup the data in columns V and W from sheet 2 and return the value.

I have an array 20 Rows x 42 Columns, which contains a competition draw.
I need to search this array for a unique value and return whatever the time is in the first column on the same row as the value appears, and enter it into column C in the Womens Times sheet.
I also want to return into column D the court number from row 3.
The reason i want this automated is as teams enter / withdraw we may need to drag the games from court to court to fill gaps, so i want the Womens Times sheet to update accordingly.
I have been messing around with index and match, but cannot quite get it to return what i need.
I have attached an example ... on the sheet "Womens Times" in column A there is a list of game numbers ( #1W etc etc) indicating womens game #1 and so on. The main sheet i am using also has a seperate tab for the mens games, hence the designator of W or M on the end of the game number.

I am creating a tracking spreadsheet where i can toggle between months (attached). It returns data properly when I select January or February from the yellow highlighted dropdown list. However, when i choose March, it returns 1/0/1900 because no data has been entered for March (table array) on the AAAG tab. How do I write the formula to return a blank cell on the summary sheet when no information has been entered into the table array yet?

Assume that I have in Sheet2 a list of CUSTOMIZED name.

What function should I use that could give me the result of the CUSTOMIZED name?
I was thinking of a formula i.e.

Obviously, the above formula give me error. Even if it works, it'll not give me the customized name ...

I'm trying to use an array to carry out string function on a range of excel cells.
Here is the code I am using

The lbound function returns the value of 1 as the lower bound, I do not have "Option base 1" set so I was expecting the lbound value to be 0. The first 2 cells in the F column are blank so this may have something to do with it, I am unsure if cells in excel can be null if they can be null one cell may be null and the other may be a zero length string but I am unsure about this.
The ubound function returns a value of 487.
The code breaks when I try to access an element in the array so it breaks on the line:
If Left(arrXl(i), 1) <> Mid(arrXl(i), 3, 1) Then
and returns the "Subscript out of range" error message.

I have a two dimensional array that I need to search, and copy a value to the sheet I am using.
Example Array

I need to fill in columnB with the corresponding name, leaving it blank if the code does not exisit in the array.
What I have attempted (unsuccessfully) so far is below. I keep getting an Error at the If DataArray(y, 0) = majorcode line.

Is there a way to find the last matching row in an array? For example, I can find the first matching row in an array by using the MATCH function. Is there a way to search through the array backwards?
Ex.
OrderID
10567
10569
10571
10573
10571
If I use =MATCH(10572, A2:A6,1), I will get the result "3". How can I get the result "5" (to tell me the row number of the last match)?
A more accurate example of what I am trying to do would be:
OrderID
1
1
1
3
3
3
If I feed the number 2 in as my search value, I want to know the range of rows where the OrderID is less than or equal to 2. In the case above, it would be rows (assuming "OrderID" is in row 1) 2 through 4. I can get "2" back by using =MATCH(2,A2:A7,1), but I don't know how to get "4".

Hi again, I am trying to find the easiest way to repeatedly search a large matrix (300,400) for a particular value. I have used two for loops in the past but its starting to get complicated now. Is there a workaround using application.worksheets.something that I could get a true of false reply? Someone may suggest that I create a function that replys back. I am new to VB and I am not sure how to send a matrix of integers to a function (syntax).

I wish to search for a substring within an array of strings and just return back an indication that the substring exists withing that array.
so for instance let the substring be "rang"
and let the array be
{"apple","orange","lemon"}.
I wish to put a single command line next to my substring and wish to search through that range and return a key code if it exists. And then I will repeat the same search for other substrings. For the moment being, I don't care too much about the number of occurences or the exact cell address where they occur. All I wish to know is whether they exist in that list or not.
So it looks to me it is like a SEARCH command but except on a range of text (Rather than a single text) with an array formula. I have tried MATCH but my case is not an exact match either.

I have a sheet with Names in it. I need to look those names up and find which org they belong to. The problem is the the names have many characters after them, and many names belong to a few orgs, with a the rest belonging to many orgs. (See below)
I have been trying to get a Vlookup to work, but since it can't go left, it won't look up the orgs that don't own at least three names. And I can't get the search to work on the names.

The Relevant columns would be "Date" column A cell 1, "Total Value" column L cell 1, "Peaks" column M cell 1, and "Troughs" column N cell 1. What I basically want to do, in the next column, column O, is this: If cell N# = "Trough" find the previous M cell = "Peak" and take the L cell in that "Peak" row and subtract the L cell in the Trough row from it (like =(L4-L9)/L4)). Then in column P, if the percentage drop was 5% or greater, I want to find the days between the trough we are looking at, in cell n10, and the NEXT Peak, cell M11, using the corresponding dates in Column A.

In the attached file, I am trying to lookup what vendor is assigned to a part, and enter the vendor number in column J, K or L, depending on the number that is assigned.
For example, the top part number, RAD001, has a 2 in column N, indicating vendor # 015354 is the Alternate vendor # 1. It has a 1 in column V, indicating 034180 is the Primary Vendor, and it has a 3 in column Z, to indicate that 015229 is the Alternate Vendor # 2.
What formula would I need to put in cell J2 so that if a 1 is found in row 2 it will return the value 1 position left of where the 1 is found? I will then put a similar formula in columns K and L to return the vendor number if a 2 or a 3 is found.
The end result will be that for each part number you will be able to see what vendor is primary, alternat 1 and alternate 2. I want to make this a formula because the actual sheet will be thousands of part numbers long, and I will need it to update the vendor information if the primary vendor is changed.

I need to check each of 13,000 job titles to see if they include the string "VP".
For the time being, I want to find the most efficient way to check an individual title, before building an array or SUMPRODUCT function that will check all the titles in swoop.
So... I have tried:
=ISNUMBER(SEARCH(A1,B1))
..but it returns TRUE if A1 and B1 are both blank -- which they can be in my spreadsheet.
And I have tried:
=SIGN(SEARCH(A1,B1))
but it returns #N/A if A1 cannot be found within B1.
If I can, I want to avoid introducing an IF statement because, looking ahead, I am already concerned that this analysis will be complicated enough without multiple paths.
So.. what's the most efficient way to return a TRUE/FALSE, or 1/0, result depending on whether A1 is in B1?

Search Column A for a name (using an array if possible). If it finds this name, add a string of text to the AA cell on the same row that it found the name on.
For example,
If in A1 it finds the specified name. It then adds a string of text to AA1.
