Search Column For Cell Starting With X Then Copy Row To A New Tab Based On A Cell Value
Jan 13, 2014
I have an tab with 20,666 rows that I need to separate into different tabs based on what a cell in a specific row starts with.
Data Tab

So what I am looking to do is search the APN row in the Data Tab that starts with the number from the APN # row in the APN Tab and then copy the row to a new/existing tab named after the Description on the APN Tab.
I have a macro that is copying information from one spreadsheet into columns "A through E" on the next available row in a seperate spreadsheet. Beginning with column "G through L" I need to copy the formulas from the row above in the same spreadsheet. Is there a way to do that since the row being copied from will change each time?
I have a macro that copies three sections of data from a word document and pastes it within the Excel worksheet. The column of data is pasted in a single column (data to be space-delimited and evaluated later), and what I would like the MACRO to do is separate the three sections of data based on the starting and ending values of the section and place them in different columns.
Section 1 : starts with the word "Team" Section 1 : ends with the word "City"
Section 2 : starts with the word "Location" Section 2 : ends with the word " Date"
Section 3 : starts with the word "Member" Section 3: ends with the word "Age"
So section 1 would be pasted into cell C1, section 2 pasted into G1 and section 3 pasted into J1.
Each section will have vary in number of rows between the starting/ending values, so to cut and paste the section based on the starting and ending value is vital.
What I have: (Table1) A table with multiple columns. One column consists of cells that can contain different types of information in a non-consistent way. One thing is for sure: if a cell contains data, it will always contain a name of a person. E.g. a cell in that column could contain the following: "838374987343 based on 98989 John 990999", or "000000000john", or "William 39843984 more text and even more text"
(Table2) A separate table that contains the names of people in a column, e.g. "John", "William"
What I want:A formula that searches for the names (mentioned in Table2) in Table1 and copies this name in a new column.
Result:A new column with the copied names as content.
search column "E" for a specific text value (let's say "it"). When found, copy the value in column "A" for the corresponding row where "it" was found to another cell "F2". When copying to cell "F2", if a value already exists in cell "F2", then no nothing else copy the value. If no "it" was found in the column, do nothing. I will continue to search, but since I am new to VBA it takes me a bit to find what I specifically need.
I have a file which has in excess of 12,000 rows of data in 5 columns (sample file attached with fake data). The five rows are:
"First Name" "Last Name" "Name" (uses CONCATENATE to combine column A & B) "Email" "Date Attended"
There will be duplications in the list as people will have attended more than once over the years. What I want to do is search through the email addresses (Column D with D1 being the header) and where there is a duplicate email address copy the cell to the right of the duplicate (F#) into the next available cell to the right of the first occurance and then delete the row with the duplicated email address.
I am working on a macro and, as part of it, I would like to look at column A of my spreadsheet and remove all cell contents where the text in the cell does not start with the word "total." For instance, if the text of a cell in column H is "total money" I would like it to remain unchanged. However, if the text of a cell is "George Baker" I would like it removed. I ONLY want the text in column H to be considered ... no other column.
However, I want to use this same function in another place, without the limit set on the cells that will be cleared.
What I would like to do is send the formula the cell to start at (E14), offset that by one column, and then send a number of rows. With that, create the range to be cleared.
I have a spreadsheet that will monitor payment schedules, in which both payment frequency and the payment start date are inputted by the user.
As such, to make filling out the column(s) fool-proof, I want to grey out cells in which data should not be entered.
For example, if the payment frequency is every 6th day, and the payments are to begin on day 0, then days 0, 6, 12 (etc) should be left white, whereas the remainder of the cells should be shaded.
I can achieve this using multiple conditional formatting rules in excel2007 with iterations of formulae of the type:
find macros to sort fixed ranges but not an entire column with existing header rows from 1 to 4.
Added to that is the need to keep the code compatible with Excel 2003 even though I have Excel 2010 at office (it's a file that needs to be "openable" in both versions so the vb code needs to be in XL 03.
Column currently starts at C5 but goes down to C47, at this point. But it's a growing list. Some of the rows are blank at the bottom, too.
I've schedule header date 1-oct,2-oct,3-oct.....etc and have two cells Last Date and Hours I need from those cells once i add date and hours to copy the hours and paste in schedule header in the exact date..
for example # Last date Last Hours
[Code]....
but was too slow takes long time.
2nd VBA code to copy last hours to schedule date based on condition on last date cell.
i want to insert value from the name of file from this formula "=MID(CELL(""filename""), FIND(""["",CELL(""filename""))+1,10)" to range b2 until last empty range that i found form this formula =ROW(OFFSET(A1, COUNTA(A:A)-1,0))
Sub lumu() Dim x As Variant x = "=ROW(OFFSET(A1,COUNTA(A:A)-1,0))" Columns("B:B").Select Selection.Insert Shift:=xlToRight, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove Range("B1").Select ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "kode_wilayah" Range("B2").Select ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _ "=MID(CELL(""filename""),FIND(""["",CELL(""filename""))+1,10)" Range("B2").Select Selection.AutoFill Destination:=Range("B2", Range("B" & x)), Type:=xlFillDefault 'this an error Range("B2:B123").Select On Error Resume Next ActiveSheet.Name = "t" End Sub
I'm creating a workbook to keep track of my utilities payments, one sheet for one utility and so on. I like to copy two cells from each sheet to another one to keep me updated of the amount to pay and the date. an example: column A with text, if text "NEXT" appear in column A, copy the value of two cells (at columns B & C) at the right of "NEXT" to another worksheet, if that possible? Below is a photo as an example:
I'm using excel 2010 and windows XP with a moderate amount of experience tinkering with macro programming. I know what I need is very doable but I can't get my head around what the code would look like. I must not be wording my searches correctly because most of what I'm getting for results are iterative programs based on a cells value which isn't what I need.
I'm trying to build a macro that will check a cell (C3) and based on the contents of that cell copy a column (I) to one of 12 different columns (K:V). So if the value in C3 is 1 it should copy I to K, if the value is 2 it should copy I to L, and so on.
I've searched for a solution on the board and the internet too but to no avail; I am trying to create a macro that will select the entire column based on a cell reference G1 which is infact a Date.
Column G to Column S are pre-defined with a specific Date in row 8. If the Date in one of these columns (G8 to S8) match with the Date in cell G1, say it finds a match with H8, then I want to copy the range F14:F2000 and paste as values in range H14:H2000. The possibility of a match found is limited to a single columns from G to S.
This is my first post but I have been using Ozgrid for awhile now. I am farily good with excel formulas but have just started with macros so bear with me if i dont understand what you mean at first.
I am looking for a way to copy rows our of sheet2 in the attached sheet based on the value in the segments column in sheet 2. The rows need to be paste into sheet3 (already has heading set up). The segments value is the number of times i need each row copied into the next sheet. The purpose of this is to split random length samples into 10cm incriments for study. For example, a 1.5m sample is taken so there should be 15 segments of 10cm each copied into sheet3.
Also, if possible, it would be nice for it to display the actual length of the segment after copied into sheet3 for cases where the length was not evenly divisible by 10. I have found several examples of row copying macros, but none that will copy a conditional number of hte same row based on a cell value. In the original data there are close to 4000 rows, but the number of rows will vary depending on the data source.
Another thought I had was if the total number of available rows is going to be exceded would it be possible to have the rows pasted into different sheets based on the rock type listed in the column?
Attached is the spreadsheet example. Issue: I have a Column B with with entries in the cells i.e. - GroupA, GroupB, GroupC. Some cells can have multiple items and/or nothing in them.
Goal: I would like a formula for Column C that If B2 Contains "GroupA" Then C2 = "GroupA"... Then ofcourse if B3 Contains "GroupA" Then C3 = "GroupA" and so on.
Problem: I've tried the options from the other posts and I run into an issue that if B2 contains "GroupABC" then it puts "GroupA" in C2 and that is what I do not want to happen.
Please see attached sample worksheet. Column A will be generated by the user manually.
I'm looking for a way in VBA to have A1:D20 in Sheet2 copied and pasted in the "Bank Reconciliation" Sheet based on how many "Markets" there are in Column A. Then, once that's complete to have A22:D30 (the smaller box in Sheet2) copied and pasted directly below those results.
I have what the macro would hopefully generate to the right in "Bank Reconciliation" (B6:E54) as an example. So if there's a market in A1, copy and paste the box to B6. If there's a market in A2, copy and paste the box directly below the first (B26) etc. etc. until it's done, then paste the smaller box directly below whatever the macro generates.
It's finals week and I need to figure out this last VBA problem for my excel class. (Yes, we are allowed any outside help.)
The code below is something I tried to develope to do the following: 1. Search "N" column for blank cell 2. If cell not blank then select 3. Copy select cell information 3 cells to the left 4. Continue function to next row
I cannot figure out two things with this code. I need the code to copy/paste the information in the cell versus equalling values. Sometimes there is a small .jpg or .gif file inserted into the cell, so copy/paste is desired. Second is I need the function to not copy formulas if possible. I cannot figure either of things commands out. Hoping message boards can help me as they always have in the past.
What I'm trying to do is lookup a description matching the date on worksheet 1 cell (a2) and go to worksheet 2 and copy all descriptions associated with that date into worksheet 1 in cells b3:b6 (array may vary) without duplicates.
The date and descriptions relate to safety inspections and I am trying to include them in a report. The answer is important to me as well as the benefits to many others.
I am trying to write a macro that is able to take a "Part ID" from a column on Sheet "Temp", search sheet "Parts" for that "Part ID" in Column A, copy the corresponding description (listed in next column B) and paste that description into a third sheet "Sheet1" Column D. I would then need to repeat for all lines in sheet "temp"
I could most likely use an IF statement to do the search, but I was hoping to use excel's search function to make it quicker as there are over 1000 parts. For example:
What I am getting stuck on is once the search finds my text in Column A of Parts, how to copy the Description in Column B into Column D of "Sheet 1". A sample file is attached. The output in Column D of "Sheet 1" should say in this example:
I'm trying to get a formula to give a response if a given cell matches any of the values in a row. This formula does not work: B2=IF(A2=D2:D6;D1;IF(A2=E2:E6;E1;0))
Spreadsheet: see attachment. I know one solution to the problem but it cannot be the right one. B2=IF(OR(A2=D2;A2=D3;A2=D4;A2=D5;A2=D6);D1;. I'm using Excel 2007, and it must be a way to easily check one cell up against a row or column. The solution with "OR" statement will be extremely long for a long list, and many columns.
I'm using the following code to open a target document and find a cell in this document in column A which has the same value as an another cell in the target document:
Can any one tell me why the result of this search ends up with cell A2 which is empty, although the CZ2 cell has an another value, which can be found in column A.
I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet consisting of many worksheets (20 or so). Each of these worksheets contain detail level data regarding different projects. One of the columns in these worksheets is the 'Status' column (column F). There is conditional formatting on this column where if the text is 'G' then change background to a green color, 'Y'=yellow, 'R'=Red and 'U'=Grey.
The first worksheet is a summary sheet that I would like to pull information from each of the detail worksheet's columns B, D, E, G and H if the status column (Column F) is 'R' or 'Y'.
The number of rows in the detail worksheet can change each week (as few as 0 and as many as 100)
I have say Cell B3 this is always a date on a sheet named Party Times on another sheet I have a column of dates with entries, say it is column D this sheet is named Party Schedule.
I need to check Cell B3 (4/30/2014) with all of the Column D on sheet Party Schedule to be sure I do not schedule another party on the same date...
Also doing this it needs to be somewhate of a do --- while if there ARE NOT any dates overlapping then go ahead and copy and paste the macro to the sheet if there are msgbox "PARTY ALREADY SCHEDULED PLEASE RESCHEDULE).
What I want to achieve: those cells have number 1 ( in column E) , adjacent cell values ( In Column D) are copied to G12 in the following format:: Mark,Lark ( i.e. cell value , cell value, etc)
is it possible ( with a command button) Sample attached
From mySQL database, i am getting a ton of data that is all being inputted into a single excel cell. Within this cell, there are certain data points that i wish to obtain (Bank #, SSN #, Routing #). There are multiple difficulties in obtaining this information.
1. these cells contain the same fields, but different number of total characters (differing in names, addresses, etc.)
2. some of the data points (like SSN) are inputted incorrectly, so even though a SSN is only 9 digits/characters, I may have to output all 11 that the SQL database placed within the cell.
Can I get some help? I'm thinking of a search function/macro within excel, because all of the fields show up correctly.
something like (i know this doesn't work)
= or("cellA1" contains/finds/function SSN,return the 9 characters after "SSN ")
um...yeah. difficult to explain, i'm sorry!
edit: not sure what is wrong the file. I have attached a new one.
Is this possible using code: Copy Cell A1 and Paste in first empty Cell down Column D. This would be connected to a command button. Both Cell A1 and Column D are on the same spreadsheet.
My current problem is that I need to search two tabs of data and use the results to modify the contents of one cell in the first tab.
I'll try to be as clear as possible:
tab1 has relevant cells "a" and "b", same row
tab2 has 3 relevant cells "c", "d", and "e", all on the same row
All cells are text values - some digits, but should be treated as a regular String.
The search needs to look at cells "a" and "b", find their match in "c" and "d", then replace the original value of "b" with the value in "e" after a match has been found.
