Shorter Version Of Countif Function To Count Search Term Across 20 Sheets

Jan 8, 2014

=COUNTIF(Sheet1!$A$1:Sheet1!$A$32515, IndexSheet!B2)
+COUNTIF(Sheet2!$A$1:Sheet2!$A$32515, IndexSheet!B2)
+COUNTIF(Sheet3!$A$1:Sheet3!$A$32515, IndexSheet!B2)....
+ COUNTIF(Sheet20!$A$1:Sheet20!$A$32515, IndexSheet!B2)

Above formula check for the value in IndexSheet!B2 and searches it across all 20 sheets and returns total sum

Is there any shorter version of this?

COUNTIF: For The Number Of Occurance Of Each Term. ONE Code For Whole Doc.

Sep 5, 2008

I looked for a long time through the past entries and couldn't find an answer for this specific situation. I have a spreadsheet with multiple occurances of names in column A

A
green
green
green
blue
blue
white
white
white

and in column D I need a total of how many occurances of that name there are. that total needs to be listed in that row for that name specifically. There are many names on there currently and many will be added via copy/paste from another spreadsheet so i need one formula to paste into each row to cover ALL recurring names. Basically i need to enter in column D "=COUNTIF(A:A,"a term that would total the reoccurance of each name from the A column the corresponding D cell")

A D
green 3
green 3
green 3
blue 2
blue 2
white 3
white 3
white 3

The goal is to be able to copy/paste new entries into the spreadsheet, sort them by name, and have them automatically update the totals in each row even if they are new names. i guess it would be a "number of occurance of each term" code to cover all terms.

Search Function (locate Data) Search All Sheets Within The Workbook

Sep 14, 2009

Using the search macro code below, could someone please help to add in more codes what I'm currently using, and also where to insert it. The Search function works well for what I need and it helps me to locate data. When using the search function somehow it search all sheets within the workbook but I only want it to search an array of sheets when using this macro that is needed to complete the task for what I'm after.

Macro

Dim myText As String, FirstAddress As String, thisLoc As String
Dim AddressStr As String, foundNum As Integer

Lookup Value To Left Of Search Term

May 15, 2007

I am trying to use a lookup formula to search for a word in a column, and return the value of the column directly to its left. I know that this cannot be done using the vlookup function, and I am not able to move the columns around. Is there another possibility? In plain English then, I would like cell E2 to look up the value of D2 in column B2:B4 and return the relevant value in column A2:A4.

Lookup With Wildcards In The Middle Of Search Term

Feb 5, 2014

I have a 14 000-item list of product codes that are generated from different attributes. What I am trying to do, is to create a cover sheet where the user can select attributes from dropdown lists and get the first matching product code. I have tried using index/match, but I am struggling with wildcard lookup.

Example of generated product code:Cell A1:
ABX**J

Here, AB is the product group, X is the pressure class, ** is material (which is, for the example, unknown), and J is the end connection. What I now want to do, is to look in the long list of codes and find the first match:

Cells A2:A5:AAY02J
ABY03F
ABX01J

Retrieving Nth Results From Index Match Using Wildcard Search Term

Jun 9, 2014

I am building somewhat of a rudimentary search engine that looks for a name, address or unique identifier, using an Index Match formula that searches with a wild card:

=INDEX(Name,MATCH("*"&F3&"*",Name,0))

"Name": is the defined name for column C on a separate sheet.
F3: is "search field"

The current formula (above), only returns the first match. The source data is only 927 lines so not overly large. I would like to have an additional page that will show the potential results from the wildcard search via a formula. Therefore needing results; 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. from the Index Match. I have searched high and low for solutions but I have found none in regards to retrieving multiple results from a wildcard search, only on a specific term.

Use The COUNTIF Function Formula To Count The Number Of Items In Column A?

Mar 7, 2014

We have one excel file for monitoring of action items generated by the management after the study. As since there were around 3000+ rows has been generated since in the beginning of 1990's till to-date. So I was thinking of instead of getting the result through filter manually, I want to create a formula that will count of how many has been closed this year and this month out of the total numbers of action items.

Is it possible to use the COUNTIF function formula to count the number of items in column A, and date of column B, and closed in column C.

In below, we can see that there were 4 items under Revalidation has been closed this month and the total number of closed this year is 6.

VBA: Search Function: Which Shows An Input Box Where You Can Enter A Word To Search For

Sep 9, 2003

I'm from Bavaria, Germany. Right now, I am doing an internship for my studies. my problem: I need a search procedure which shows an Input Box where you can enter a word to search for. It should work like the original Excel search (Ctrl-F), but with a simpler design, like with my own Text "Enter your Query" and a Button "Submit Query" / "Quit search". Is there the possibility to Highlight the Search Target? The problem hereby is that this highlighting should not be permanent. That means the user sees the target for which he searched for, the cell highlighted in a different color, etc. But as soon as the user clicks onto another cell, etc., the highlighting vanishes. If there is no fitting match, there should be a MessageBox like "Sorry the Target xyz cannot be found"

Using The =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH Function To Search Multiple Cells)

Aug 21, 2009

I' having trouble using the =IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH formula to search multiple cells.

I can get it to work to search one cell (as below):

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Same",G10)),"No Change",'Aug 09 Matrix'!F10)

(In this case the respone is No Change as Cell G10 contains "Same")

However cannot get it to work for several cells. I have pasted below and highlighted the function I would like it to perform:

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("Same",G10:R10)),"No Change",'Aug 09 Matrix'!F10)

Essentially the other cells in that row (G10:R10) all contain "Same", however for some reason it is identifying this as FALSE and putting in the data from the 'Aug 09 Matrix' sheet.

COUNTIF Function After SUBSTITUTE Function

Jan 3, 2012

I am using COUNTIF functions with Defined Name lists to quickly determine if a certain number is on a list. As a backdrop, I am using Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) numbers and attempting to somewhat streamline chemical approval for a small company. CAS numbers are often in the format of XX-XX-X with varied amounts of numbers. One of the defined lists however does not have dashes.

Thus, I am using cell B1 to enter the CAS# once and then for each list having a column to itself with an associated worksheet with a defined name list. Most of the columns have the function =B1 with the conditional formatting of =COUNTIF(definedname,BX) and formatted to turn red if the chemical is on the list. This is working for all of the columns except for the list that needs the dashes removed. For instance, CAS 64-67-1 is put in B1 and cell B5 has the formula =SUBSTITUTE(B1,"-","") which brings the number to 64671 which matches the number in my defined name list. However, the cell will not turn red. What am I missing?

Using Countif To Look At Multiple Sheets???

Oct 8, 2008

I am trying to create a formula that will tell me how often our sales reps are going to specific accounts. I have a master list of each persons accounts and next to each account name there will be a cell with a formula in it. This formula will look at the cell next to it, "the account name", and then count how many times that name comes up over each months sheet. I was also wondering if I can then get the average over 12 months in the same formula. If not thats ok.

The problem I am having is that I keep getting an error #VALUE!. I had no problem with it looking at only one sheet, but when I do more than one it gives me an error. I think it is the was I am breaking up each sheet. I have tried to do it every way I can think of... ,;) Nothing seems to work.
