Unhide A Column With A Password
Feb 20, 2010
I have column B hidden as it holds information that only certain people should be able to see.
I have a button in column A which when pressed, I would like the following...
1- a prompt box to ask for a password
2-once the password is entered, Column B unhides.
3-once an entry in Column B has been made, it automatically hides again.

I wanted to know if there is a way to lock some sheets in a workbook to prevent anyone to view them. I have a workbook with sheets that have a database, it is shown the frontsheet, and when a person selects an option it will appear a sheet with the data selected initialy. I wanted the other sheet to be hidden and locked so the one goes to the unhide menu and selects a sheet to unhide a msgbox appears to ask a pass code.

I have a file with the following sheets: P1, P2, P3, Inventory. This file is sent to different people (users Ab, Ad, An) and P1-P3 sheets are set as "VeryHidden" because we want to avoid for example that user "Ab" can see or unhide certain sheets.
I'm wondering if it's possible to request a password when opening the document then unhide certain sheets according with that password, there will be 3-6 users.

See I have hidden my sheets and I need them to stay hidden.
But when I need to unhide them, a password should be needed to unhide them.
Maybe add a button on one of the open sheets that when pressed will unhide the sheets but will promt for password.

I have a range of columns ( J:AH) which i have to hide from the user interface.In order to unhide, the editor must enter a password. He/ She can only enter the password thrice. After 3 times, if it is still wrong, the whole workbook must be closed. Is this possible? If not, I'll settle for something less complicated.

My problem is that I need column B:B to hide if it's not hidden, if it is hidden to be unhidden via the textbox password box but I don't want the textbox to appear when hitting the button to hide which it does and that then causes me to have to hit the cancel button to leave the column hidden. Here is the code I came up with:
Sub PasswordBoxCode()
ActiveSheet. Unprotect ("13792468")
Columns("B:B").Select
If Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False Then Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = True
If Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = True Then PasswordBox.Show
ActiveSheet.Protect ("13792468")
Range("A1").Select
End Sub
And then for the userform code I have this:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
If TextBox1.Value = "1379" Then
ActiveSheet.Unprotect ("13792468")
Columns("B:B").Select
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False........................

Am trying to find the VBA code to "ask a user for the password to unhide multiple sheets/tabs"
I have got the script for unhiding all sheets which is:
Sub Sheets_Unhide()
Dim sh As Worksheet
For Each sh In Worksheets
sh.Visible = True
Next
End Sub
What i would like though is for it to prompt with a password first before the code is executed for unlocking 50 odd sheets.. I know its not 100% fool proof, but would do for what i need!

Some sensitive data is held on worksheets that are used by people that do not have access to see the data.
It would be most convenient to keep the data in these worksheets but hide it from view of the users.
Is there a way to password protect a users ability to unhide a column?

I have an Excel 2003 application where one of the columns (column D) has been hidden by some user.
When I try to unhide nothing happens. I select column C and E followed by a right-click on column E where I choose Unhide -> column D stays hidden.

Using Excel 2007, I figured out how to insert a Toggle Button and program it to hide or unhide my columns F and G (which show cost data for products we sell) depending on the state of the button.
What I'd like to add to the button is text and functionality as follows:
- Columns F and G are shown, Toggle button IS NOT depressed and the button says "Hide Cost"
- Columns F and G are hidden, Toggle Button IS depressed and the button says "Show Cost"
I figured out how to change the text on the button, but can't figure out how to change it based on the button state. I know there has to be a way to do this.

.EntireColumn.Hidden = True
If CheckBox1.Value = False Then

In the included sheet I have 5 groups of data with five categories in column A. Current, Plan, Plan Var, Prior, Prior Var. I have included the button “Show Options” that opens the userform I created and gives 5 options. What I want is the user to be able to select any number of these options and then upon “ok” the rows in the sheet that weren’t selected are automatically hidden. If the procedure is completed again and a differen set of options is selected I want it to unhide any hidden ones that were selected and hide any that werent selected.
So if just current is selected the sheet will show 5 rows of current and nothing else. If current and prior are selected it will show current prior current prior current prior... etc.
I have some hide code that I created in the file as well.
Sub NotCurrentHide() ...

How would I code to allow for hiding/unhiding cloumns and rows while still protecting the spreadsheet? Also, how could i allow for this file to be shared? Currently i'm getting an debug error when another person enters the file.

I need to work with the run times for some equipment. This is just hours and minutes and I get the raw data as like "Pump # 1 - 35:30". This is not date/time data per se, just a raw number of hours. I thought I would format the cells as hh:mm and for 15:00 I would just enter 15 to save time. No go, that becomes 1/15/00 00:00 and displays as 00:00. I discovered that if I just leave the formatting as general and enter 15:00 it works fine and displays right but the formula bar says 3:00 PM (Excel figured to format it hh:mm). When I enter 30:00 it again seems fine but the formula bar says Excel stores it as 1/1/00 6:00:00 AM (Excel figured to format it [h]:mm:ss but I deleted the seconds).
I can just set the formatting as [h]:mm to be consistent and enter the full 15:00 but I guess that after working that out I am just curious - can Excel store hours:minutes as just hours:minutes without turning it into a meaningless date? And without converting it to a decimal number? I don't want to total 1:30 + 1:45 = 3.25; I want the total to be 3:15. Again, it appears that [h]:mm will do what I need but it just seems unelegant to me that it is stored as some weird date and I wonder if it will cause a problem at any point.

Is it possible to have multiple passwords for a column based on text entered. I was hoping to use it as a form of digital signature. Eg if I wanted to enter my initals KP I would have to enter password assigned to KP, if a staff member entered their initials "AB" they would have to enter password assigned to that.
