I need to add a space in front of a string of numbers/letters, but it still doesn't seem to match what's in the lookup range. Granted, i get the lookup range from HQ, so there may be a formatting issue.
I am trying to use the vlookup fxn to display employee names according their in-time (10:30 for this example). I have multiple employees in at 10:30 so I need to find a way using vlookup to accomplish this.
This is a sample of my Master worksheet showing the schedule for all employees (Cell used for this example is D16):
My vlookup formula for finding the first match for a 10:30 in-time:
The other worksheets in this workbook are various Floorplans depending on how many employees are scheduled that day with a column designated to the employee's name(B), and a column for their in-time (C). Here is a sample of the '8 Server Floorplan':
Finding the first 10:30 match with vlookup is fine, my issue starts when trying to find the next 10:30 match, since vlookup only finds the first match (this is happening in B9).
Here is the sample of cells showing my formulas for finding the address of the first '10:30' match from my initial vlookup fxn (O5 and P5):
I thought by just finding the address of the first match (Master!D16), incrementing it by 1 (=D17) and plugging the cell containing this formula (P5) into my data range, that it would force the vlookup formula to adjust its data range from D4:W38 to D17:W38. This, in turn would then find the first match for 10:30 and so on for anyother identical in-times...
I have a table that I would like to format visually to enhance it. I know about conditional formatting, but this doesn't seem capable of what I want to do.
Basically, I have a table, and the contents of it range from A6:H59. I want the formatting to affect an entire row based on two factors.
As an example, we shall use row 6. If cell A6 isn't blank, and cell H6 IS blank, then I would like the entire row from A6:H6 to be coloured in Amber. If cell A6 isn't blank, and cell H6 isn't blank, then I would like the entire row from A6:H6 to be coloured in Green.
Of course, I want this formatting to the true of all rows in the sheet, but do I need to have a conditional formatting code for each row? Does conditional formatting even go into things this deep?
I have contemplated using VBA, which I know is more than capable. There was an example given in another thread, but my VBA is poor as I haven't programmed a bean in years, and I don't know where to even start. Below is the example code take from another thread similar to this (I didn't want to hijack another man's problem).
Option Compare Text 'A=a, B=b, ... Z=z Option Explicit
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim Cell As Range Dim Rng1 As Range
On Error Resume Next Set Rng1 = ActiveSheet.Cells.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeFormulas, 1) ..........................
I am trying to connect a special date and a price to a special name (please see the attached file).
In sheet 1 I have the following: - In column A I have a set of different names. - In column B I have a set of different dates. - In column C I have a set of different prices on bonds that off course refers to the different names at their respective dates.
In rest of the sheets I want an overview of the different bonds, and what their prices are at the exact date. The problem is that if I use the vlookup it is only the first value that will be extracted. How can I get all of the prices corresponding to the different dates to the correct bond. I also want the possibility to update this every day.
I am getting #N/A errors even when I have an apparently exact match in my table array to the lookup value. I know that excel requires the formats to be exactly the same and I can force the match if I copy the lookup value from my table array and paste it into the worksheet. Is there an easy way to "fix" my table array. The table array is a reference worksheet I have created which has worked in the past.
I have the following formula which, if text is in A1, will lookup from a list of worker's comp codes to locate the code in A2 and return the wording for that =IF(ISTEXT(A$1),VLOOKUP(A$2,Codes!$B$3:$C$720,2),"")
However, if there is not an exact match to the code in A2, it returns the wording for the next closest code.
Is there a way to make it so that it will only return the wording for the exact match and return "invalid code" if the number in A2 is not found on the list on the "Codes" sheet?
I want to vlookup from sheet2 cell E2 to find all matches in sheet1 in coulmn G and add totals together in coulmn E. The match I am looking for is used in several rows of coulmn G on sheet1. I only want cell E2 on sheet2 to give me total amount from data in coulmn E of sheet1 when a match is found in coulmn G of sheet1.
I've information in two sections of a worksheet, columns A and B (range named "temp1") and columns D and E (range named "temp2"). I should also say that the reason I have two sections is that each section will have about 150 rows, so instead of having a huge list of 300 rows, I've tried splitting them into two sections.
AB 1a 1b 3c
DE 4d 1e 6f
What I want to do it show all the results that match the value 1 using a vlookup formula. Also the values in column A and D may change, i.e if value 4 in D1 changed to 1, I would expect to see "d" included in the results.
This is the original formula I got somewhere else which sorts out my vlookup on multiple matches issue.
I have several Campaign Names (about a thousand) and about 25000 categories (with ID's) to choose from and would like to assign the Category ID's to the Campaign Names without doing manual searches. My problem is that the names are not similar enough for vlookup and I didn't get any usable results with the fuzzy lookup add in either.
I will attach an example of both my Campaign and my Category file for reference. Example Complicated Vlookup.xlsx
I have several worksheets (Labeled Sheet1,Sheet2,sheet3) What I need to do is to step through each row in sheet3, and do a search in sheet1, it the data was found, then return the row number. I then will need to copy data from sheet1 (rowfound columnA , through rowfound CoulmnBd to sheet3 current working row columnK
In my spreadsheet, on the first worksheet called "Working". Column A, called "Results", contains carrot ^ delineated string values in each cell (i.e."john^apple^pear^banana^grape^love^heart^pickle"). The majority of string values in every cell in my "Results" column match a "source" column of Pick-List Values, called "Fruits" in the same spreadsheet, however found in a different worksheet called "Lists" (also in Column A). I want to perform 3 functions against my "Results" Column on worksheet "Working":
1.) Report In Column B: Analyze column "Results" by cell and return carrot delineated string values for only those that match my "Fruits" Pick-List
2.) Report In Column C: Analyze column "Results" by cell and return carrot delineated string values for only those do not match my "Fruits" Pick-List
3.) Report In Column D: Identify and return all unique values in "Column C" as a List.
Attached is a simple example of what I'm trying to accomplish called " Sorting.xls"
I have 1000's of columns of data to go through, I just need to visually inspect the data and then delete any column containing irregular data. At the moment; I select a section of the first column of data and insert a column chart for that data. I then need to change the source of the chart data to that of the next column, to do this I click on the data within the chart and it will show the data on the worksheet that I have selected by surrounding it in a blue box, I then click on this box and drag it to the next column of data. Clicking on the blue box (which sometimes I miss, and I then have to go back to the chart to activate it again) and dragging it to the next column is getting annoying, especially as I have sooooo much data to go through. Does anyone know if there is a shortcut key for this, or how I could write a macro to do this?
i've reached a point where i would like to learn more about class modules but i have no resources. When i create a Class object can i visually see it? i want to know as i'm looking to use them within userforms if possible
I'm practicing my VBA and can't get this practice code to work, the syntax looks good but all it does is set the current cell to 23. and I want it to keep going up the column until it find a cell with any value and then change it to say 23. if the value is empty it should keep going up.
Sub chngevalue()
If ActiveCell.Value Is Nothing Then
ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 0).Select Else ActiveCell = 23 End If
End Sub
I did check the internet and my reference books and wasn't able to find a clear reason.
deletes a row if it finds a specified value in a specified column (in this instance, "NB" in column E). However, it is very slow and some end users are complaining about the amount of time it takes to run. Here's what I'm using at the moment:
I have a macro that needs to walk down a list of values and when it finds breaks in the values, it will insert a formula for a calculation. The problem I'm having is getting the code to loop correctly until it finally finds the value "End" when it should stop (when I play around with the code, sometimes I can get it to continue the loop, but it blows past "End" and then it experiences an error because it can't end.
Sheets("Master").Select Range("B1").Select ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select AssetIDStartRange = ActiveCell.Address X = 0 Do ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select X = X + 1 Loop Until ActiveCell.Value "" SortCriteriaName = ActiveCell.Value ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 1).Select ActiveCell.Formula = "=SUMIF($B13:$B5000," & """" & SortCriteriaName & """" & ",$H$13:$H$5000)" ActiveCell.Offset(0, -1).Select
If ActiveCell.Value "End" Then....................
I'm tying to finds the most recent X or O. Then takes the price on that day and compares it to the current price and based on the difference either higher or lower puts out an X if the current price is higher and an O if the current price is lower by the Half StartData - however when i get to about 6 IF statement it freeze up and it wont give me the X or O's ...
I'm trying to get a count of the number of workbooks in a directory and it keeps returning 0 when there are three WBs in the directory. What am I doing wrong? Here is my code.
With Application.FileSearch .LookIn = "C:Documents and Settingsdt64864DesktopTesting" .Filename = "*.xls" .FileType = msoFileTypeExcelWorkbooks .Execute MsgBox (.FoundFiles.Count) End With
is it possible to have a cell return all matches from a list and have the list of matches reduce as you type, then be able to select one item from the list? this is a typical feature on internet sites, but can it be done in Excel?
I'm looking to have a row at the top of a worksheet which I can type in, so that only the rows below which contain that information will show up. For example, say I have the following 3 rows, 2 columns each:
Cat Feet Cat Head Dog Feet
I'd like to have an additional row so that if I typed in "Cat" only the "Cat Feet" and "Cat Head" rows would show up. Likewise, if I typed in "Head" in the proper column only ""Cat Head" would show up.
On Error GoTo importError For Each b In Range("names") If b = FILE.Sheets("Sheet2").Range("e3") Then ThisWorkbook.Activate ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet2").Select b.Row.Value = n For Each c In Range("dates") If c = FILE.Sheets("Sheet2").Range("e5") Then ThisWorkbook.Activate ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet2").Select c.Column.Value = m ActiveCell = nm Set Targ = ActiveCell Targ = system Targ = FILE.Sheets("Sheet2").Range("e20")
End If Next
It doesnt work, it gets to b.row.value and throws up an error, i realise im using the wrong code but I dont know enough vba script to resolve the issue
I have a timesheet and a data base spreadsheet, the db spreadsheet opens the timesheet (many, one after another) and I want it to look for each name in the db and if the name cell on the timesheet it has open matches then i want it to remember the row value (on the db), then look through the dates in the db until it finds the matching date to the one in the timesheet, i want it to store this column value (in the db) so I can concat the row and column to get the activecell where I will be putting the total hours (a single cell reference) from the timesheets into the db.
I'm simply trying to search a directory for .xls files and count them. I have previously used the following code successfully to do so, but for some reason it has recently stopped working. Debugging shows .FileSearch.Count() = 0 after every search. I have atleast half a dozen .xls files in the "Reports" folder relative to the active workbook.
I need a piece of VBA code to assign to an Excel form that determines the maximum value of a subset of one column whose cognate rows in an adjoining column satisfy a particular value.
I am trying to make a macro, but because of my inexperience, it's not working out. I have got a big list (list 1) of numbers in column E. each number has some information in the cells of columns C, D and L, all in the same row. on the same sheet, I have got another, smaller set of numbers (list 2), also in column E but at the bottom of the sheet. the numbers in list 2 are all present in list 1 (but not all numbers in list 1 are present in list 2). the columns C, D and L on the same row of the numbers in list 2 are empty...............
We can clearly see that we have a match in rows 2 and 1 columns A and B, but I am getting #NA. I have sorted the columns A-Z as well. I have also tried formatting the columns different ways and I still get #NA.
I need to conditionally format column B if it finds a match in A.
