In one spot I have a formula that is pulling the last two characters of a cell (right,xx,2).
It results in a number. I am trying to that number in a vlookup
(=VLOOKUP(C2,data!$C$1:$D$6,2,FALSE))
But it appears not to recongize the number (c2), because I am getting #N/A for a result, even though the number is on my vlookup range.
I have a VLOOKUP formula that works when searching some cells but not others when both cases should work.
Q: Does VLOOKUP have a certain maximum amount of characters it can search? If a cell contains more than this amount of characters will VLOOKUP not work?
This is what seems to be happening on my spreadsheet. The VLOOKUPS that refer to the cells with more than the average amount of characters seem to fail. The same happens with INDEX.
I have a VLOOKUP, which uses a named range called Department. The first column is sorted in asending order. The department numbers are 4 digits, formatted numeric. The department numbers are in order up to Department #19000, then they jump to 50000 series. Here's the problem, the 20000 department seris is in the master database, and the lookup is returning the data relating to Department #19000, instead of NA.

I would like to run a query for the accounts on the closed list to pull in relevant data from the active list,if any, or maybe just highlight the closed accounts on the active list to ensure that the closed accounts aren't active again. Is that possible with a macro? Should it just be a vlookup? The accounts list is going to be a very big file and I am trying to find a solution that won't take up too much time to run.

However the reports that I am using are formatted differently so the order numbers are not exact. One spreadsheet lists the internal order number and the other lists the external order number. IE 123456 8119(123456001) Is it possible to specify a string of numbers within a cell using vlookup? Or should I look at another function?

I have a sheet with Names in it. I need to look those names up and find which org they belong to. The problem is the the names have many characters after them, and many names belong to a few orgs, with a the rest belonging to many orgs. (See below)
I have been trying to get a Vlookup to work, but since it can't go left, it won't look up the orgs that don't own at least three names. And I can't get the search to work on the names.

I am pulling a date from a cell to another and I need to create a formula based off of the result.
This is the formula I am using to pull the date over
=MID(AA3,FIND("/",AA3)-2,10)
This is what I need to do to the result
=WORKDAY(M3,6)
I believe =INDIRECT should be used, but I'm having difficulty making it work.
Here is what I am trying to do with no luck so far.
If I type RS23U1R109000 in a cell A1, I want B1 to read the 5th letter or
number and fill B1 with E86.
Example
A1= RS23U1R109000 B1=E86
A1= RS23V1R109000 B1=E87
A1= RS23R1R109000 B1=E84
As you can see in my example, the 5th letter could be U,V,R or whatever, but
I need cell B1 to read that letter and populate B1 with E86, E87, E84 or
whatever.
I am trying to tie two worksheets together. If text found in one cell in sheet1, make the same cell on sheet2 different color.*
There is a catch... no formula can occupy the cell in sheet2.*
My question is, is there a way of have a formula in completely different cell that will eventually fill the cell on sheet2 with proper information?
To explain a little better, I am trying to tie the sheets together, same cells and everything so when information gets put inside the cell on sheet1 the same cell on sheet2 will change color or display different information, and vice versa. That is the reason no formulas can occupy those cells.

I have a sheet with 22,000 rows 6 columns of sales data from my Amazon sales each order has between 3-6 rows. When the data comes in from Amazon some of those rows wont have my sku in the sku cell. Since i use a pivot table to summarize all my sales I need a way to pull the sku from the order number that has it. I have attached a picture of my problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a weather graph I am putting together for fun and cannot figure out a way to bring data in for a table based on a consistent data pattern. My high temp averages are in column C along with other annual averages (High (Cell C7), annual avg. (Cell C9), low (Cell C8), precip (Cell C10) etc.) for that year, my data will go back 50 years. I am trying to find a formula that will bring the temp data into another column so I can create a graph of just the high temps or precipitation or any other measure. I have color coded the cells I am looking for.
Essentially, I am hoping that in column H, I will have a year (2014 for example) and column I will search for a match between column A and H (year), if a match is found, it will bring in data from that year for a specific category (Temp for example). OR, another option would be to to skip the cells and just pull in data from the cell (High temps would be in cell C7, C18, C29, C40 etc.) through a =C7+11 (cell count, not adding to number result) type of formula.
Got a requet from a client that we can't do with out accounting software. Basically I have a folder of all the clients indivisual invoices for 2008. We want to put together a report that will include the employee name, invoice date, and amount. But the only way to get this right now that I see is to sift though the hundreds of workbooks we have for them, one by one. Is there something that can be set up to pull 3, 4, or 5 of the same fields say cell A1, B3, C3, and D6 our of every workbook in a single folder on our network?

We have a 3rd column where we can use 8 characters to do a combination of First 5 of Last Name + first 3 of first name. However, if someone's last name is only 3 or 4 characters, we'd then want to take more from the first name to fill out the 8 characters.
So:
Charles Johnson -> Johnscha
John Smith -> Smithjoh
Willian Wu -> Wuwillia

I've made a spreadsheet for tracking sales/profits and keeping a record of orders, I have made a table on one sheet listing customers, and I have a table on another sheet with a Customer column, with cells linked to the table of customers on the other sheet, The cells in the customer column are set to display a drop-list from the external customers table, but when I select a customer, all of the cell data that's pulled in, is written on one line, whereas it has line breaks on the customers list sheet,
Is there a way of getting the list value to display with line breaks, like on the sheet it pulls the values from?
I am using Excel 2010. I am trying to make a spreadsheet where I can type in a date (02-19-2014), and pull in box scores from a basketball website. I have everything set up so that the date is parsed into (3) cells (02 19 and 2014) so that it can easily fit into the URL:

As you can see, the month value in the URL is "02" the day value is "19" and the year value is "2014". What I want to be able to do is type in any date I want and return the box scores from that day in a new tab. I have everything done so that the new tab is automatically created and named, so my only issue is that I can't figure out how to input the day, month and year values automatically into the code for the Get External Data pull:

Example of original data: Joe Shmoe V-225, 310 VIII-22, 86, 110
I have separated the data into separate columns. Now I have:

At this point, I want to combine the Roman numeral in Col 2 with Col 3 and 4 and combine the Roman numeral in Col 4 with Col 5 and 6.
There are way too many records for me to manually enter the Roman numeral where missing.
When I try to enter 18 numeric characters in a single cell, the last three characters are converted to zeros. I can find no format that would allow me to see all 18 entered characters. Is there a way of doing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet which I use to enter notes related to particular invoice numbers. A v-lookup pulls the notes into another tab. What I'm running into is that the notes can be quite lengthy - in excess of 1,000 characters. When the notes get too long, they don't all appear in a single cell (unless it's extremely wide).
I'm wondering if there may be a way to maintain my notes in a word doc instead? Maybe in a table that pulls in using a v-lookup? But I'm not able to figure out how to direct a v-lookup to a word doc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs you can see, in D5, I have the charactor chain SRG-DC01-RA-xxxxxxx, and in D6 I have the charactor chain SRG-DC43-RA-xxxxx.
With the formula that I have entered, I would have thought that E5 would have generated "Lawnton". I don't want the formula to pick up the SRG, the RA, or the number, just the DCXX component.
This is what I have now:
=IF(OR(ISNUMBER(SEARCH({"DC43","DC01"},D5))),"Erskine Park","Lawnton")
which has not changed a thing from:
=IF(OR(ISNUMBER(SEARCH({"DC43"},D5))),"Erskine Park")
Surely I am not far off the mark??
Cell E1 having 150 characters (letters), I want to trim first 45 characters in cell E1 and place it in cell B2 and remaining characters in cell E1 (ie. from 46th character till end) and place it in cell A3.
