VLookup For Value Up To Certain Number
Nov 7, 2013
I need to do a lookup table based on the source value being in certain range.
i.e. in my vlookup range i have prices of items by quantities ordered i.e. if upto 10 qty ordered, price is 100, is 10 to 30 qty ordered price is 95 and so on
In the other worksheet i enter quantities ordered by customer and i want vlookup to automatically pickup the correct unit rate from the vlookup range. Customer quantities will random numbers like 5, 20, 31 etc!
The solution i found is based on entering lowest of the ranges in vlookup range and using TRUE in vlookup formula. But this is very time consuming as we get the prices in ranges by manufacturer and so every time converting it to the lowest value in range is a bit of a problem.

I am trying to create a macro and I need it to return the row # based on a vlookup of a date and not 100% sure how to do that.. Hoping to get a little assistance.
I am looking up a date in column A, and need it to return the row #, then I can do the rest of the macro I need. The date I need to look up varies, and is based on the following function I have in a cell elsewhere, but if there is an easier way in vba to write i'm open:
=IF(WEEKDAY(TODAY())=2,TODAY()-3,TODAY()-1)
which basically says if it's monday lookup the date from 3 days ago (friday), otherwise look up yesterday's date. So today it returns 6/8/09 and I need to find the row that has 6/8/09 as the value in column A.
Now the dates in column a, are all formulas that say previous row's date + 1, so the only row that has the actual date in it is the very first one, then we just add a day. Not sure if that matters, but figured I'd give all info.

If I use Vlookup to find something when:
Lookup Value is formatted as General and
Lookup Array is formatted as Text
Excel will find the thing I'm looking for.

I'm used to using the VLOOKUP Function a lot, and up to now it has always worked fine.
Instead of returning the value of the looked up cell (text) as it usually does it seems to be returning a number, which has something to do with the row number of said cell.
I copy and paste a formula between sheets and it does the same so I'm pretty sure it's not something in the formula.

I am wondering about the best syntax for using a VLOOKUP return as the row number in a CORREL function. I want to create rolling correlations from today's date. I have a VLOOKUP function that will return the row number corresponding to the chosen day's date. I now need to use that returned value in the CORREL function. That is, I would like it to look something like:
=CORREL($E$VLOOKUP(today-90,AD5:AE3143, 2):$E$VLOOKUP(today,AD5:AE3143, 2),$E$VLOOKUP(today-90,AD5:AE3143, 2):$E$VLOOKUP(today,AD5:AE3143, 2))
When I enter this, I am told that I have an error. Is there a better way to nest this vlookup?

Is there a way to put a formula within a Vlookup formula that will act as the column number? For example I have this simple Vlookup formula: VLOOKUP($B4,'TAB'!$A:$N,8) and 8 references the year 2014. Well if I update the numbers on the separate tab and the year 2014 changes to a different column, I want the formula to automatically change to that.

I am using vlookup to return a number from sheet 3. I then need to use the number that vlookup returns in a formula on the worksheet, but since the cell containing the number it returns is actually a formula itself (=Sheet3!A5), the formula returns #value!. How do I get just a number/value that I can use in the next formula?

My problem is that my VLOOKUP formula will not return any data when it doesn't like the format of the data it's looking up.
Example: I have a spreadsheet that displays revenues earned by assets.Every month I export a table of data from an accounting software program with (a) asset numbers, (b) invoice date, and (c) monthly revenues. Then I copy the data into Tab 2 of my spreadsheet. On Tab 1 of the spreadsheet there is a table that lists Assets 100 through 120. Column A has all the asset numbers. Each month it varies as to which assets earned revenue and which one's did not. Usually between 10 and 15 assets earn revenue in any given month and about 5 do not earn revenue. On Tab 1 there is a column with VLOOKUP formulas that looks up the asset number in column A of Tab 1 and points to Tab 2 where the data that was exported from the accounting software program is located.Let's say that in July 2012 that Asset 1001 earned $35,000.On certain months, the VLOOKUP formula looks over to tab 2 and "returns" the $35,000 revenue with no problem. On other months, it will not return anything, apparently it does not like the formatting and does not "recognize" the asset number.

i am looking to create a vlookup but with the ability to easily change the column number index so that i can use different columns.
As an example. In a worksheet i have a table with the names of cars in column A starting row 3. Column B to m Row 1 is headed Jan to dec, row 2 same columns is a country name eg UK. Column N to Y row 1 is Jan to Dec again and row 2 of these columns is a diff country say Germany. This repeats for a few more countries. The data within Row 4 for these columns i.e per car is all prices. The table therefore shows the prices of cars per country per month.
I then have a seperate worksheet for each country where the cars are again listed in column A and Jan to Dec is in column b to M but the data is hard coded being the number of cars. I would like to use column N to link to 1 of these months hard coded counts dependant on what month i decide to forecast on. The easy way being that if i wanted to use Jan count number i would link the count for that car type to =b4 etc. Is there an easy way to allow me to change the link should i decide i want Feb ?
The second question is within each countries worksheet i want to bring into column p the countries related car price for a month i select. It may be that the count number differs from the price i select.

I am trying to reference a Name of a place from an order number. To illustrate, University Park, IL can have an order # of 6598641373. The only thing is, all I need to reference is the first four digits, 6598. The other worksheet does not have city and state names, they only have the order #s.

what i am trying to do is use concatenate in a vlookup to search for a resource number and date, then return another column in the array.
the formula looks like:
=VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE(D7,$H$6),Roster_Allocation,7,FALSE)
but only results in NA.
if i search for the resource number only, i get the correct result.
also, the res# and date are concatenated in the table array. could this be related to the way excel is storing the dates (40241?) even though both concatenated fields look the same?
i have also tried adding a new coumn which has the res# and dates concatenated as the lookup value but still all NA.

If the names are made up of letters or letters+numbers the names match.
If the account names are purely numbers the names do not match.
All names are formatted as text.
I have tried using TRIM, numbers still do not match.

DETERMINING ROW NUMBER FOR DATA FOUND WITH VLOOKUP IN VBA
I have a user form with a combobox (called STKCODE) that calls up a vlookup routine to search for this item in a named range on a worksheet and retrieve related data to display on the userform. All this works fine.
What I would like to know is how to easily determine the row number on the worksheet, representing the row the data is stored in, if thats at all possible....

From the highlighted cells at B17 to B19, while using some kind of lookup or indexing method, I want to count the number of cells in that specific range that's great than zero. This list is just a sample, the list will be much bigger and order may not be the same--that's why I need to lookup the project name.

I WANT it to search all of column A for the highest number in the range (which will change daily to a new high number above the highest currently), and return the value in column 4 (column D) that corresponds to that value from column A. This is what I have, but it is not working, it is giving me the number (1) in Cell A800 (which is the lowest valued number in my range. The numbers range in value from 1 to 762 with none repeating (they are sequential). The formula I have is :
=+VLOOKUP(MAX(A76:A2000),A76:I2000,4)

I am doing a vlookup on a cell range where the value I'm trying to lookup (a date) exists, but it's not an actual number in the cell...it's a reference to another cell with that value (somewhere completely different).
So, I'm trying to vlookup(date(1/1/2011),A1:A12,2,false) to get the B column value.
A B
1/1/2011 #
2/1/2011 #
...
12/1/2011 #
However, the A column is not the actual date. It is a reference to another cell somewhere completely different that has the actual date 1/1/2011.
When I do a vlookup trying to find 1/1/2011, it can't see it there unless I overwrite the reference in A1 (for instance) with the actual date.
Can I do a vlookup and keep my cell references?

I have a vlookup formula: =VLOOKUP(TRIM(C101),Sheet2!$A$1:$B$500,(2), FALSE)
It is not working with General number values. Why is this? Is there something I should add?
The formula works if I swap columns to one with text or if I include text in the column.

I am trying to return the value (date) of a construction schedule by searching for a specific construction activity ID number. Is there a method I can use which incorporates a text search so that as the schedule grows (cell locations shift down) the lookup function still follows the unique activity ID?

A
B
C
D

Description

Excel 2013
Our company has a shipping report spreadsheet that has the job number in column A and the ship date in column F. I want to track other things on a separate spreadsheet. So far, we are only down to row 1440 so in order to account for future jobs, my code on the other spreadsheet is:
=VLOOKUP(A2, '[Shipping Report.xlsx]Monthly shipping schedule'!$A$1:$F$5000, 6, FALSE)
Also, the jobs are arranged by ship date, not by number order.
This has worked perfectly for months but for some reason, it will no longer recognize job numbers greater than 1331. The format is the same between the working and non-working cell. Is there a max limit for vlookups that I am not aware of? If this was a sudden failure, I could nail it down but there has to be an underlying reason I'm not seeing.
Here is a sample of my spreadsheet:
Ship Date
1325 12/27/13
1326 3/10/14
1327 1/4/14
1328 1/31/14
1329 3/3/14
1330 1/22/14
1331 1/15/14
1332 #N/A
1333 #N/A
1334 #N/A
1335 #N/A
1336 #N/A
1337 #N/A
1338 #N/A

I am using a vlookup with a table that has data which uses a number which correlates to an item. A person types the number into a cell which triggers the vlookup. See example
35apple37orange40lemon
So..if someone enters let say number 36 into the look up cell..since 36 does not exist in the table the vlookup returns the value next to cell 37. Is there a way to use vlookup so that if a number it is looking up does not exist it wont return the next value? I would like to return an error message if the number being looked up does not exist.

I am trying to put all my parts with quantities on a seperate sheet called "Parts List" Every time you select a quanity for one of the parts, I want it to pop up on my parts list. This will make it easier to identify the exact parts I want and also the quantity I need. This will be much more convenient then scrolling down my parts list and trying to find the one's with quantities.
I think I need to use a vlookup or even a Macro but I don't know how to go about doing this.

I am trying to use VLOOKUP to auto-populate a description from an entered part number. After checking up on how to do this in several different places I applied this formula to the relevant cell but all that it returns is #N/A.
I am very confused as all seems to be correct, but I am new to this and I am sure I am missing something silly. :P
On entering a part number into cell C13 on sheet 'Stores Receipt' it should search and find that number in column A on sheet 'Product List', it should then return the adjacent description from column B on sheet 'Product List' and show this in cell C17 on sheet 'Stores Receipt'.... Sounds simple hey! :D
The formula used is:
