I need some code to search "database" sheet column B:B for value "SearchString" and then either select the cell (0, 86) to the right or count the rows so I can move the the cell in the correct row.
View 14 RepliesIn the attached file I used =MATCH(TRUE,INDEX($B$2:$B$10="",0)) to retrieve the location of the first empty cell.
When using the "Evaluate Formula" tool, it is clear that the position in the array created by the INDEX function is the 6th. Nevertheless, the final outcome is 9, being the last cell in range.
I've been trying to edit my index formula to only count an order number once even if the criteria for that result appear more than once. Attachment 324723

I have a variable called LU which I am trying to use to do a match function in a macro.
OwnerOldRow = Application.WorksheetFunction.Match("C" & LU, "Owners1!$A2:$A65")
What I am hoping to do is find the row associated with column C and row value from LU. I have a stop on the line and LU is properly valued but it won't do the match. Is my syntax wrong. I am leaving the match type blank as it defaults to 1 which is the value I want anyway.
I'm trying to find the occurence of a date in a range.

However the code stops right on the q3 line where the match function is located. The problem is that I'm getting a Run Time Error 1004:
"Unable to get the match property of the worksheet function class"
This would lead me to believe that the match function is not working. However, in Excel, it does work. Even when using the cell from the other Workbook, it works.
All the dates which appear to be dates are indeed formatted as dates.
The range is good. I've used the immediate window to verify the address and the values of the other variables in play.
?range(Cells(toprw, 2), Cells(botrw, 2)).Address
$B$26:$B$49

The resulting cell of F5 kept on returning #Value!.. I suspect that my syntax for looking up the ranges from another worksheet is wrong?
I have an excel workbook with a dynamic dependent drop down list setup, works a treat on the first worksheet i set it up on.
However here's the problem, my workbook contains a good handful of worksheets each named to reflect the certificate on the page, i need the drop down list to work on each tab. problem is when i setup the index/match function it requires a specific sheet name to make it work i.e.
=INDEX(Table1,0,MATCH(PI!$C20,Table1[#Headers],0))
However what i need it to do is reference the worksheet name, as new ones get added and names may change, something like
=INDEX(Table1,0,MATCH(&ActiveSheet.Name&$C20,Table1[#Headers],0))
However this doesn't work, i do have a cell on each page that holds the Sheet name using the function:
=MID(CELL("filename",A1),FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))+1,256)
But I cant even get it to use that cell as a reference in my formula.

i dont know what is the correct range inside the match fuction to identiy the row number inside the Data sheet, i think the solution would be match(a2,Data!a2:a13,0) but things might get complicated if you have multiple worksheet such as sheet2: Data , sheet3: Data2, sheet3: Data 3
and each table has unsorted details compared to others sheets (Data vs Data 2)
i have weights entered in A1 , B1 , C1 and I manually enter almost same weight in D1, E1, F1 . Now I need the result as " OK " in G1 if the weights A1,B1,C1 match with D1,E1,F1 if it doesn't match then result should give "Please check again".
I am having some trouble getting a formula to work. I am building a report that pulls figures from a pivot table in another workbook. I am using a vlookup with match function to get the column index to find the relevant data I want. Where I need to add two columns together I am using sum, with the vlookup & match formulas nested in them e.g.:

Where:
F13 = Employee number
Column C on the pivot 156 workbook is where the employee number is based.
The Match formula is then getting the column index from the column headings of the pivot table ie. "FAID"
This in itself works fine, as long as it finds a match in the column headings. This is where i get the error as in the above function "COMD" is not in the pivot table. However I need to keep it included as it may appear on a future pivot table. Is there a way of getting the sum function to complete even though later in the formula it can't complete the vlookup? So it will ignore it, or assume the value is zero if it can't find it? The formula probably needs to do this for all the vlookups as some headings may drop off in future pivot tables.
I am trying to match data from 2 independent sets, formatted slightly differently so not sure which function would work best for me. From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)

This does produce a result, but not entirely what I am after.
This requires only one string to search for, and will in cell B1 result in a value of 'Orangegreen' as I can only supply one valeu to the function. What I want to do is supply the function with a range of values, and have those values outputtet in colb instead af the value of cells where the result is found.
I tried modifying the function to include a range, but that does not produce a valid result.
I want to pull the file location of a hyperlink to populate a image control in a form. I have 150 names, each with pictures. So I need to do a index,match or vlook up within the VBA and make the result the active cell. From there I know how to pull the file location out. Just need to know how to make the address of a index match result in vba.

I have used a lookup table to calculate the value in column H as follows, but cannot get it to work

I have two lists of values in ascending order. Column A is an identifier and is always one more than the previous. Column B is ascending as well, but there is never any guarantee that it will increase from one row to the next or how much it will increase when it does.
My index formula looks like this: =INDEX(A2:A21,MATCH(D9,B2:B21,1)+1)
In this example, if D9 = 1 then it needs to return 6 but instead returns 10. How can I make this index for my purpose? Or should I be looking for a different function?
I'm having problems with a formula. Here is what I would like to do:
I have a named range named "J46DATA".
If B5 returns "N/A" when matching to "J46DATA" and S5<>0 then return "DELETE" or IF B5 returns "N/A when matching to "J46DATA" and S5 = 0 then return " ALERT". anthing else can return false.
I started of with
=IF(AND(ISNA(MATCH(B5,J46DATA,0))
But it wouldn't let me put the S5<>0 after that lat parantheses.
Basically where the columns say 2011 or 2012 AND 1, 2, 3. I want to be able to have it index the number below based on the GL number on the left and both the year and period on the top. I think that you can do with using the sumproduct function with the binary, but the computer is a little dated and it takes a while to run those calculations.

to return the value located in the 3rd column of the range when the value in the 1st column of the range matches the data in A177.
However, there isn't a match for the data in A178 in the range, so the formula returns "#N/A". I would like the cell containing the formula to remain blank in those instances.
I am using this to count how many times a particular number appears across numerous sheets, My sheets are in a Named Range MySheets....

This as you may know only returns the result B1 from the first sheet within MySheets.
Attached is a spreadsheet that contains a list of Football teams (F) with corrasponding numbers next to them (E). In column A is a list of footballers and column B has a corrasponding number. WHat I want to be able to do is type in the footballers names in A and type a number next to them in B, in column C it would read off the corrasponding Team number and populate it with the team name. In the attached example I'll manually list the fist teams in B, i need a formula todo this for me. Probably quite simple.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 sets of table in a sheet, namely, BK,DC & BDM. Each of the table to shows the result (extracted from other sheets) for 12months and the rating that correspondence with the result. There is also 2 combobox and a commandbutton at the bottom of the sheet. The combobox1 is to select the item (BK,DC or BDM) and combobox2 is to select the month. This is because i need to create something whereby, once the item and month is selected, then the user is able to click on the commandbutton and a small window will appear to indicate the year to date result (extracted from the tables)
For example, if the user select BK in combobox1 and April in combobox2, then when they click on the commandbutton, the following happens: -
1. Calculate the average percentage of the performance from Jan - Apr (I'm using the Excel formula for step 1 & 2)
2. Generate Rating
3. Populate the result in a small pop-up window which has the header as per what is selected in combobox1.
is there a way to get a formula to count a zero if it would normally return a negative value?
example
result = 100
target =300
result = -200
but i want it to show as zero
does this make sense?

For example, 1 base order of 25.00, plus 1 bonus order of 18.00, plus 2 bonus orders of 15.00 would be $73.00 due. Then data entry persons enter the actual amount collected. Is there a way to highlight either the cell or the result if the amount collected does not equal the amount due? I know I can accomplish this with another column, but they want to keep the columns to a minimum.
This is for a non-profit agency and the orders are now at 1000 that must be entered within a day or two period, so they want to keep the fields to a minimum so as to make the entry easier for those doing the input. And they would like the data entry person to see an immediate flag if what he or she enters as collected does not equal what is due.
I am very new withe macro I recieve every day a CSV file from our supplier withe a list of the products that got updated withe new price, stock count, product ID etc.
I have my own worksheet with the product ID that we use, and I want to finde the exact match to my product ID in that CSV file and delete all other that don't match.
But i need them get deletede by rows thos product ID that dosen't match to my workbook.
I tried with this, so it could set an X in front of my match then i could filter and copy it to my workbook but it dosen't work:

This formula checks a staff number on this spreadsheet, and then goes and looks at the staff number on the roster. Once found, it returns that staff members roster, but changes any manager codes in the MRC list to Mgr, and changes all other roster codes to Free.
I now need this formula, before altering roster codes to Mgr or Free, to only return codes that are a match for another table (or after really. I don't particularly care, so long as only codes are shown that match data from another table). I think an index/match function would do the trick, but this forumula is already at the edge of my excel ability, nesting another function within it is completey beyond me. The relevant cells for the index/match function would be:
This first Match function targets the column. $E3 is the date required, $BA$1:$DN$1 is the range the dates are entered in
Match: Lookup value = $E3
Lookup array = '[ManagementRoster.xlsm]Vacancies!'$BA$1:$DN$1
match type = 0
This second Match function targets the row. $A$4 is the department name, $B$434:$B$452 is the range where all departments are entered
