I have drop down fields using a vlookup to grab the corresponding data in a colums next it which is being concatenated into a one big cell. The problem is a set of other columns that I need to pull data from but its dependant to a previous column. In the attachment you see which ever region is selected the following column data is grabbed and the same goe for title. Now when the location is selected the info in its column should be selected that corresponds to the row that the specific title is on. example
if selected: North America>Secretary>Texas
results: A Crazy Mix->;typical,Notepad, pen,square dance
What is the syntax for passing arrays to functions? In other words, for the following simple test example, what would work? It is highlighting the asValue parameter and saying, "Type mismatch: array or user-defined type expected". This occurs whether or not I follow it with the empty parentheses.
I am attempting to join together up to 32 arrays. I haven't even managed to join 2! can it be done in excel 2003 VBA? the arrays are 2 dimensional (x Rows, 3 Columns). I have tried this but just produced empty variants:
I think this is an easy one, but i can't figure it out. I have a spreadsheeet with multiple concatenate functions programed in. All of them work. If, however, i try to change the formula inside the concatenate function it freezes and will not calculate the new cell. I have the calculation tab set to automatic in the options tab...
I have been creating my own custom Estimate/Invoice system for my Renovations business. I am really stuck on something. I have scoured my Excell Bible, asked numerous message boards and noone is able to help. I did find a reference to my issue here but it still left me confused.
Here is my issue.
I created multiple lists for my materials database. They are broken down by categorie…such as Drywall, Tile, Doors & Windows, Hardware, Etc. right now I have 14 lists which I continually add items to as they come up.
Each list are exactly the same, 3 columns Item, Unit, Cost.
I am try to do a Vlookup to access the cost of an item from these list. Please keep in mind that no item is EVER THE SAME.
I can make a simple vlookup work for example searching my drywall materials database VLOOKUP(A1,Drywall,3,False) with Drywall being the preset list range.
However I want my Vlookup to search EVERY MATERIALS LIST for the specified item. I have tried inserting an array into Vlookup that looks like this (List names are restricted to save space)
VLOOKUP(A1,{Drywall,Tile,Hardware,Paint},3,False)
But I can not get it to work, I can get one single list name to work but not an array of them. Is this possible?
Lastly If statements will not work here as I have upwards of 14 lists and If statements only allows nesting up 7 times for a limit.
I have two column on two seperate worksheets. One worksheet has both columns filled out. On the second worksheet, I want to be able to type in info in once column and have excel pull the other column from the other worksheet.
WKSHT 1 WKSHT 2
ID Name ID Name 1 Bill 3 ?VLookup? 2 Steve 3 Mike
Ive tried using Vlookup('worksheet1'!A2:A4,'worksheet1'!B2:B4,2) but can not get it to work.
I would like to select a item from a list and have a text box display data from the next column (corresponding row) Also, I would love if I could type something into a second textbox and have that copy onto a third column (again, corresponding row) Also, if the add comment command button could transfer that record to the "commentted items' sheet. I have attached an example.
I'm trying to write a macro that looks up Column A so that each time it finds "Agent" as the first word in a cell, it takes that whole cell and copies it to another sheet.
I tried creating an array function that combines the If, Vlookup, and Right() and Left() functions, but no luck. Ideally, I would want this as a VBA macro.
I have a spreadsheet with over 20,000 rows. From another spreadsheet I need to find if any of a list of 90 customers are within the first, using a simple IF and vlookup formula which comes back yes or no.
I am using: =IF(A2 = VLOOKUP(A2,ihcust!B:B,1),"YES","NO")
However, although this works when they are spelt exact in both sheets if they are not it will say no. eg. If I was Looking up "Joe's Icecreams" from the list of 90 but in the other sheet it is listed as "Joe's Icecreams (admin)" it would not recognise it and come back no.
I have made an input form which the user can input the data of person they wish to sit.
I then used Vlookup to put this data on to a smaller table.
This will make more sense on this download of the program.
http://files-upload.com/199899/MainInput.xls.html
What my problem is....is that i have too rooms and i needed excel too look at the cell see that they want to sit in room one then it looks at what table they want to sit at then looks at the seat they want to sit at then put them there.
I am retrieving a CSV file from the net. In this file there are 'x' amount of row data and 7 columns. I only care about the values in the 7th column for each row. I also don't care about the entire first row. A graphical version would be represented something like this, with the values I want colored in orange:
I've managed to dice this thing into a jagged array by first splitting it using vbLf as a delimiter, and therefore adding those to an array called Lines(). Then I split Lines() up using commas as the delimiter and threw those into a jagged array, let's call it Breadcrumbs()(). I want to throw all the values from Breadcrumbs(i)(6) into an array of its own. Here's my code so far:
Code: Public Sub CSVparser(file As String) Dim Lines As Variant Dim j As Integer Lines = Split(file, vbLf) ReDim breadCrumbs(UBound(Lines)) As Variant For i = 1 to UBound(Lines) - 1 breadCrumbs(i) = Split(Lines(i), ",") Next i End Sub
In sheet1 I have name(column A) and value(column B) In sheet2 I have name (column C) and key(column D) In sheet 3 I have results
Example ( It is just a total nonsense example, the real data is net inflow of some funds that are unique) Sheet1 House 1000 Car 1500 pet 2000 Sheet 2 house1 car1 pet2
So in the sheet 3 I want to put a formula that is capable to sum all values of the sheet2 if the name has a key of 1in the sheet2, the key columns has values of 1 or 2
I think in SQL will be something with join and group by with having clause.
The result will be 2500 in the sheet 3.
What I tried: My attempt is to do something like this code ( using array functions).
I am trying to obtain price of an item using vlookup() function on the identifier “0003128” (7 digits) stored with “custom” format “0000000” in one worksheet. However in other worksheet, the identifier is stored as “000312” (6 digits) with “text” format without the last digit ‘8’. I tried using the left(A,6) function on “0003128” but instead of returning “000312” it returns “3128” and I’m unable to use the vlookup() function.
Trying to do Vlookup with If but dont know how , I can do the concatenate function and then Vlookup as in Sheet 3 but that is too much of load to deliver in quick time specially i have pull data in dynamic and continuous update.
I am trying to use a Vlookup and concatenate 3 cells from Sheet B onto one cell in Sheet A. I have managed to get it to work, but the leading Zero's are being dropped. I have formatted the cells on Sheet B using custom format and "00000" but they are not coming through on Sheet A.
Say in L4 on form test i want to look for the value of A4 in Drill data range a2 to z1000 and retun a concatenated string of something like "sav 407 : 08-may to 11-may"
I want to Vlook a value from a cell in another workbook then before I get the formula result I would like it to concatenate the result with another cell. I have attached an example
what i am trying to do is use concatenate in a vlookup to search for a resource number and date, then return another column in the array.
the formula looks like: =VLOOKUP(CONCATENATE(D7,$H$6),Roster_Allocation,7,FALSE) but only results in NA.
if i search for the resource number only, i get the correct result. also, the res# and date are concatenated in the table array. could this be related to the way excel is storing the dates (40241?) even though both concatenated fields look the same? i have also tried adding a new coumn which has the res# and dates concatenated as the lookup value but still all NA.
I need a formula that will bring up the Model type of a product based on its Material code. All the models I need to generate have a "root" number in them (the first 6 digits define model type). This is what I need to fill out:
two formulas for one data set. The data is attached in the spreadsheet: "Product IDs". The data is a set of Master Product IDs (parent) and the Linked to them Products (children). I need to create a relationship between unique parents (Master Product IDs) and their children (Linked Products)
I need to create two formulas:
1. From the Data Set table, need to vlookup the unique value in column A (Master Product ID) and return comma delimited (concatenated) corresponding values from column B (Linked Products). So, the result will be as shown in Table 2.
2. From the Data Set table, need to vlookup the unique (de-duplicated) parent/children relationship in column A (Master Product ID) and return comma delimited (concatenated) corresponding values from column B (Linked Products). There are total 3 parent/children relationships in Table 1. So, the result will be as shown in Table 3.
I Want to be able to put in Col A the concatenate results of all equal P/N's from any given list. Or at least select the few cells that i know are duplicates and from that copy the Location to a single Column.
ColA ColB__ColC ______Loc__PN 1,2____1___A _______2___A _______3___B 4,5____4___C _______5___C
Desired results obtained via IF =IF(B2>0,A2&" , ",A2)&IF(C2>0,B2&" , ",B2)&IF(D2>0,C2&" , ",C2)&IF(D2>0,D2,"")
one , two , three , four one , two , three one , two one
Is there any smarter, shorter formula via Concatenate and Substitute or other formulas ?
My closest match, but not good enaugh is =SUBSTITUTE(CONCATENATE(A2&", "&B2&", "&C2&", "&D2), ", , ", " ") [ returna 2 commad ] one, two, three, four one, two, three, one, two one ,
I am aware of the following topic in the VBA Help file:
"Using Microsoft Excel Worksheet Functions in Visual Basic You can use most Microsoft Excel worksheet functions in your Visual Basic statements. To see a list of the worksheet functions you can use, see List of Worksheet Functions Available to Visual Basic.
Note Some worksheet functions aren’t useful in Visual Basic. For example, the Concatenate function isn’t needed because in Visual Basic you can use the & operator to join multiple text values."
And I'm aware of how to call Excel funcitons from within VBA; e.g., answer = Application.WorksheetFunction.Min(myRange)
However, not only are some Excel functions not useful; the fact is they cannot be used because VBA has a native function that does exactly the same thing and you have to use that native VBA function to achieve your goal. It is these overlapping functions that I am especially interested in. I want to know what I should use directly in VBA and what I need to go to Excel for.
