Count Any Text In A Range
Dec 9, 2009I need to count text in a range.. Any text and only text.. No formulas.. No numbers..
This formula does not work
=IF(ISTEXT(B8),COUNTA(Data!G8,Data!J8,Data!M8,Data!P8,Data!S8,Data!V8,Data!Y8),"")
I need to count text in a range.. Any text and only text.. No formulas.. No numbers..
This formula does not work
=IF(ISTEXT(B8),COUNTA(Data!G8,Data!J8,Data!M8,Data!P8,Data!S8,Data!V8,Data!Y8),"")
I have an excel file with 1000 of records for eg.
Date INITIALS CATEGORYACATEGORYB
31-Dec-07MTSVIN
01-Jan-08MSSVDI
04-Jan-08MORSKH
31-Jan-08MPSVHI
02-Feb-08MPRSIN
03-Feb-08MPVSIN
02-Jan-08MSRSIN
03-Mar-08MSKSKI
i want to count the datas
1) SELECTING IN THE SPECIFIED DATE RANGE (e.g from 1st jan to 31st Jan)
2) SELECTING MULTIPLE CRITERIA IN B COLUMN (MP & MS)
3) SELECTING MULTIPLE CRITERIA IN C COLUMN (SV & RS)
4) SELECTING MULTIPLE CRITERIA IN D COLUMN (IN & HI)
My colleagues tried countifs in excel 2007 but i have 2003. i want to specify all the four criteria in a single function to achieve my result (IN EACH MULTIPLE CRITERIA)
I am very comfortable with VBA but I usually avoid using formulas if at all possible (unfortunately, I have, formulas are unavoidable (by request).. so formulas it is)
I will try to explain
Column A is a list of dates (ever expanding)
Column B is a list of names ( multiple entries of various names but aligned with various dates)
Column H is a list of names (each possible name which can appear in column B, no duplicates)
Cell I1 = A Date
Cell J1 = A Date
(forming a date range)
Basically what I need to do is:
= COUNTIF(B:B,H2) - but only count it if it is withing the date range (>=I1 & <=J1)
I have tried wrapping it in an IF statement but I can't seem to get it to work.
I need a formula which I am using to count instance of sickness. I include a sample copy of my data which I hope will make my request clearer! I'm currently using the below formula to count the number of continuous instances of any code starting with "SICK" =(SUMPRODUCT((LEFT(C$10:C$37,4)="SICK")*(LEFT(C$10:C$37,4)<>(LEFT(C$10:C$37,4)))))
I would also like this formula to count any code starting with LTS as well (Long Term Sick). Due to the nature of sickness there may be continuous periods where both SICK and LTS codes are used, at the moment I can not come up with a formula to return the value I need. These columns may contain other codes but for simplicities sake I have only shown the relavent ones.
I need to count the number of unique text values in the first column given a condition in the 2nd column. For example, the formula that I'm looking for should give a result of "3" because it is an SME, and there are 3 unique companies that are classified as SMEs.
Company Name
Company Type
Company A
SME
Company B
SME
(I cant seem to make the tables visible but Company A and Company D right below the header should be in one cell) This should still yield a value of "3" despite having Company A and D in the same cell.
I have a column that is filled with different names. Some names appear more than once. There is one name in fact that appears four times.
I am looking for a formula, or VBA if that's necessary, that will look through the range Y2:Y50, and return a value of 4, because the person that has the most duplicates, her name appears 4 times.
If everyone's name appeared only once, except for a person whose name was in that range twice, then the formula would return a 2.
I want to count the number of times a word appears in a range (like M9:S663), but sorting it by the month it appears (eg: january = 2, february = 56, march = 2000, etc.)
I managed to do this but there has to be a better way
=COUNTIFS(RNM.1;"PRUM Transcripcion";FechaComite;">=01/01/2012";FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";
FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";
FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";FechaComite;"=01/01/2012";FechaComite;"
I'm using excel 2007, here's what I need.
I want to count the number of cells in a range that have text in them (any text at all) but not count them if they have numbers in them or are blank. How would this formula be written?
I'm trying to build a formula that counts the amount of cells within a range that contain multiple strings of text within the same cell. I only know how to build a formula that snags cells that contain 1 but not 2 different ones within the same cell. For example: I want to count cells if they have the word BALL and STICK somewhere in the cell....see three cell examples below
gameballnetstick
ballgame
stick ball
tenballs
green stick
Of the three examples: it would only count cells: gameballnetstick and stickball
I am trying to count the number of specific words contained in a specific cell. If my data were static, and the list of keywords was short, there are many solutions such as using multiple instances of the length function as proposed by @shg here.
Suppose I have the following sheet: (column C is what I am trying to achieve)
A
B
C
1
[Code]....
That is, C2 will tell that B2 contained 3 of the keywords (1X beautiful, 2X happy) and so on.
In an employee attendance file I am trying to count the number of times an employee has taken 3 or more days of leave together (continuously) in a month. My attendance file looks something like this
sat
sun
mon
tue
wed
thus
fri
[Code] ..........
In the example above E001 has taken 3 continuous days leave twice so formula should return 2, for E002 & E003 the answer would be 1 each.
I have data in 2 columns.
COLUMN A COLUMN B
2008-01-01 00:00:00 CRIMINAL EVENT
2008-01-04 00:34:48 OTHER
2008-02-04 00:23:59 SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
2008-01-31 23:59:59 ENEMY ACTION
2008-01-08 00:45:43 FRIENDLY ACTION
2008-01-09-00:45:33 RAID
I need a formula or macro that will count all the times "Criminal Event", "Other", "Suspicious Incident", and "Enemy Action" occured in January. Also if possible I need to not specify column ranges, such as A2:A7, but instead it needs to find the last cell containing data in Columns A and B, and use that as the end point. For example it would search A2:Last Cell Containing Data
How I can create a simple formula to count unique values/text within a range of cells that contain duplicates, blanks and errors?
For e.g., in Column A (row 1 - 10):
Proj-001
Proj-001
Proj-002
Proj-004
#N/A
#N/A
Proj-007
Proj-002
I am trying to find a formula that will count the number of unique entries there. I have tried the solutions posted on various websites to no avail (most recently:
Code:
=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(MATCH(A1:A10,A1:A10,0),MATCH(A1:A10,A1:A10,0))>0,1))
).
The answer should be 4,457.

Trying to count how many days from a set range of dates are within another range.
So for example, the first two dates, 7/29/2014 - 8/5/2014 would be 6
7/31/20148/6/2014 are the set dates

Is it possible to count Text & Non Text Entries in the following way?
The value in cell A1 = 18A
The value in cell B1 = 18B
The value in cell C1 = 19
A Cell with a value that includes and A or a B constitutues a half of a unit so -
The sum of A1 on its own would be .50
The sum of B1 on its own would be .50
The sum of C1 on its own would be 1.0
The sum of B1:C1 would be 1.5
I have two ranges that show parts of a question to be answered and those parts already answered (aa6:aa55 and ab6:ab55). I would like to count those elements where the value in column AA is greater than the corresponding value in column AB, showing questions with parts still to be answered. Currently I have a formula comparing the two and am counting the occurrences of true or false. This seems to be overkill and I am sure that there is an array formula that can do the same thing more efficiently, unfortunately I cannot figure it out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using WinXP with Excel 2003 - I have a column of highway sign description data (16k+ rows).
Example:
Curve Arrow Right
Curve Arrow Left
Turn Arrow
Reversing Curve Arrow Right
Winding Road Arrow(plus many more unique entries)
I'm using SUM and COUNTIF to total the number of times "Curve", "Reversing", "Turn" and "Winding" appear in the column.
My formula is:
Code: =SUM(COUNTIF($F11:$F16196,{"*CURVE*","*REVERSING*","*TURN*","*WINDING*"}))
Which works great EXCEPT what I really want is the number of cells with any of those key words, not the total count of those words. The example above should be 5, but since row four contains more that 1 of the key words I'm getting 6.
I try to write the function that gets some "ref" and returns appropriate item.
For example: if I give to function "C3", it returns "AAA"
if I give to function "R18", it returns "BBB" (cause it between R15 to R26)
if I give to function "R9", it returns "BBB" also.
how to count a specific text in two different ranges eg a text "moby" ....want to count how many times it comes in ranges b4:b20 and in b50:b70
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst challenge will be assigning point values to Words so I can them up and create averages etc
So I have 4 words I need to learn to assign point vales to, then create a formula that will count the points in a row. That will get me off and running,
So here is a very vague idea of what I mean, this would go in A5 as a example
if A1:D1= complete+2 incomplete+0 submitted+1 missing-1
so if I had a row that was:
Submitted | Submitted |Complete| Complete | Missing | 5
( 5 would be the value the formula would return 1+1+2+2-1)
Count if cell contains text string
I have a list of animals and a list of countries they are found in so I wanted to count how many animals are found in each country.
So the count function =COUNTIF(E3:E202,"*" & "India" & "*") works perfectly to count how many have India listed as one of the countries.
But was wondering if there is a way to replace the criteria bit (ie the country name) with information from a cell.
So basically I have copied in a list of countries so I just want to use that as the criteria without having to manually input them all individually.
I have a textbox and would like to create an updating word count when a user types something into the text box. I want the word count to display in a lblword as the text is being typed.
Private Sub txtInput_Change()
cmdNext.Enabled = (txtInput.Text "")
'm_Validation
m_Response = txtInput.Text
' txtInput.Value = Format(m_Response, "dd mmm yy")
End Sub
Say I have a userform that has a bunch textboxes on it. If I wanted to take 20 of those textboxes, and scan through and count which ones have values, is there a simple way to do that?
I need to make it so that if more than 11 of those 20 textboxes contain text, a msgbox will popup and tell my users they are exceeding their limit.
I was thinking one way may be make them all a list, and then somehow count through the list and once the count reaches a specified number it msgbox them...but I'm not sure exactly what the process is for that.
I have sheet from 1st to 31st of the month wherein I feed the employees details in codes or legends. I need to count certain codes as detailed below: ....
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow count a cell that contains text, for example "ABC fundraiser day 1" by just searching for "ABC".
I need an if/then that says: "if cell F145 contains the text "ABC" then 1, if not 0.
Also, can you count cells by color coding? As in only if it contains the text "ABC" and is shaded green?
Here I come with yet another question in excel, how do I count/sum text in a column. E.g
Column B
Fish
Eggs
Meat
Fish
Fish
Chicken
this would basically be # Fish 3, # Eggs 1, # Meat 1, and # Chicken 1. Hope I make it clear,
Check the attachment, i could not make out this using vlookup, how to overcome this problem.

I am trying to find out how many weeks our current inventory will support our sales. I am trying to research formulas that will do this, and coming back with things like OFFSET, MATCH, INDEX but am not certain the best way to put them together to get what I need. I use excel daily, but this is a bit mroe advanced than I am used to
Mini.xlsx
Starting in cell B4, I would like to count how many weeks of Demand can be covered by the specific Available On Hands in row 3 for that week, put the number of "Weeks Covered" into cell B2, and then fill over to the right in row 2. Right now, the values in row 2 are from my own manual calculations, but I would like a dynamic formula that will sum up the values in row 4 up to (but not greater than) the value in B3, give the count of cells that reached that sum (or even better with decimals to show the percentage covered), which I will copy over into B3:B13. Not sure if that makes sense, or if I can explain in a better way. The yellow cells are what I am trying to create a formula for and am currently stuck.
Trying to assign code to comm. button on User form to copy lets say:
(sheet1, rangeB2:B21) to (sheet2, first blank row rangeB2:B21) and paste it as text value one more question: what to be aware in case of sheets format (merged cells, hidden rows...)
