Handle 2-2.5 Million Rows And Change Column To Whole Integers?
Apr 10, 2013
I have a comma delimited CSV file that holds about 2 millions rows of data (a lot I know but it's the only format I can work with unfortunately). One of the rows has some numbers in it that have lots of decimal places (like 3.908651901). I need to round that entire column - all 2 million rows - to whole integers.
The problem is that when I open it in excel it says something like "only 1 million rows shown". After more investigation I have found out that excel cannot handle more than 1 millions rows at a time.
My question is this: If I select the whole column and round the numbers to integers will that apply to the entire 2 millions rows? Or only the 1 million showing in excel?
Are there any other programs available that can handle 2-2.5 million rows and change the column to whole integers?
I have a worksheet that was originally saved as a xls (2003) file. I have resaved it as a xlsx (2007) file, but the max rows are still at 65,536. I am trying to combine over 100,000 records into one sheet. The only way I have been able to create a excel document with more than 65,536 rows is to export my records from an Access file.
I've accidentally created over 1 million rows across several sheets which has sent my file size over 35mb.
I desperately need to delete these and cannot find any way of doing so.
They were created through macros copying columns and pasting them elsewhere, although I'm not sure how they decided that 4-800 rows of data was worth a million rows.
Can anyone offer a solution that doesn't entail making a new sheet and rewriting all the forumula's in it?
I have a number of large CSV files with approximately 1.9 million rows, (this is more then excel can bring in). I typically have to import/delimit the files when brining them into excel. However, when I try this I get the message not all data imported. I would like to be able to split the records in the csv file to multiple tabs in the excel woorkbook when doing the import/delimit but do not know how to accomplish this. The delimit of the data varies each time due to the nature of the data so doing a macro is more trouble to create each time. Currently I am having to open the csv file in notepad and split it up into multiple files then import each new file seperately.
I have 63,893 rows and 3 columns (Parents, Component and Qty) in a table. This would be typical for a Bill of Materials showing the Qty of Components in a Parent. A lot of Components are common to a mumber of Parents.
In total I have 4,259 Parents and 10,904 Components making up this 63,893 rows in my table.
The problem is that neither the Pivot function in Excel nor Access will handle it, least not the way I'm doing it - the bog standard way ! I just get the "Excel cannot complet this task with available resourses......" message.
Anyone any ideas how to get a Pivot or something resembling one so that I end up with the Components as the Row Header and the Parents as Column Headers.
I know I could go in and manipulate the data but I want to be able to create this Pivot like report every month or so without having to reinvent the wheel each time.
in the first row i want to use the fill handle at 135 and drag rightwards so as to copy/retain the pattern (decrementing by 5, from multiplier 150 until 100)
how would I achieve that?
p.s I also want the formula for columns to work with the fill handle drag downwards.
I have a spreadsheet where one column will determine the color of the entire row....if the sales persons name in column B = "Dew", the entire row should be shaded light blue. if the name is "Swiger" they should be white, when its Webb, it should be light blue again- alternatively, at every change in value in that column, alternate the entire rows shade - when the sales person name changes from Dew to Swiger, change the shading of Swigers Rows to white, when it changes from Swiger to Webb, make Webb's rows shaded the same blue as Dew's row's were....there are multiple rows for each sales person.
I'm not really all that familiar with a lot of things in Excel. I do know how to make a macro, which this question is to help with, but I kinda skipped a lot of learning in between.
I am wanting a shortcut that will insert a new row after each change in column A. I don't think Subtotals is the answer because after I enter the row to seperate them I will want to enter another row and seperate again by column F when there is a change that is not a blank row.
Column A of my spreadsheet consists of Subcase 1000 to Subcase 1010 for example, with up to as many as 100 repetitions of each subcase in consecutive order. See Below:
I would like a macro to find where Subcase 1000 finishes and Subcase 1001 begins and then insert 2 new rows between them. These 2 new rows have to be inserted between any change found in the column A field. The searching of Column A should start at Row 15. I have uploaded an example file. This file contains 2 sheets, 'Before Macro' and 'After Macro'. Hopefully it outlines what the outcome of the macro should look like.
I've posted this thread in http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...ml#post2038238 but since the thread has been solved, I think nobody would look into my problem, so I'm creating a new thread for the purpose.
My previous thread:
Hi there,
I'm looking for the same idea only that I wanted the macro to select the data in the cells selected. Based on the code given by StephenR above, I tried to do some modification but I don't know how to make it to start from the first cell of my selection, not from row 15 as R_S_6 wanted. The range selection can be in any column. Here are the code that I used:
Is it practical to attempt to iterate over all cells in Application.Cells when using Excel 2007? I am truely amazed by the number of cells available but slighty unsure of the practicality of a spreadsheet which attempts to use of the 17,179,869,184 cells in each worksheet!
See attached sheet "Selected estimate", Cell B4 and Down, This was working before I made some edits to the "checklist" sheet. I have hit C+S+E a million times and I cannot figure out how I broke this forumla. Btw, this is excel 2007
What I am trying to do is, (I'll generally explain it and will go in details when needed) I have four tabs, but right now I will focus on two tabs. The first tab is called DATA_INPUT, will be the raw data inputted by users, approximately 45,000 to 50,000 rows. The second tab is called DATA_SET has data that are already set from previous reconciliation, this tab has approximately 10,000 rows.
my goal is to do a search from data_input starting with row 3 all the way to the last row, and search to see if any of these data are in the DATA_SET tab. Vlookup will not work if any of you are thinking about this, b/c the datas are in phrase and the data_set data are in chunks of that phrase (i'll explain in detail if needed).
So far I've created a loop code that works and gets me the result I want, but the problem with the data's being so huge, the loop will be looping apprx 500 million times, this cause the program to run very very low. For example to run 1000 data from DATA_INPUT it takes apprx 30 minutes or more and sometimes b/c this is so huge it crashes. i'll already did the calculation of how many loop it has to run through to finish, it's about 500 million loops (50000*8000 = 400,000,000 plus looping through the phrase to find the word match, approx 500 million loops).
SO my question is how can I make my program run faster since it need to loop so many times, or if you have a better suggestion in solving this problem, let me know....
Cell I5 has the sum of cells A5:H5. Every time the value of cell I5 reaches the next million, I'd like for the date that it reaches the next million to be displayed in J5.
I have a variable called "MinVal" which is an integer. Does anyone know the correct code for rounding this integer to the nearest multiple of 5 (or 10)? I need to do this in VBA, not on the Excel worksheet.
I am trying to add some numbers only if they are integers/numbers. My condition goes like this:
IF((rangeA)=Numbers,SUM(rangeA),"One or more values not available")
I came up with this formula, but it gives me an error.
=IF(ISNUMBER(P5;Z5;BL5;BN5;BP5;AS5;AV5;EU5;FI5;GH5;GK5;GN5;GX5;HE5;HR5);SUM(P5;Z5;BL5;BN5;BP5;AS5;AV5;EU5;FI5;GH5;GK5;GN5;GX5;HE5;HR5);"One ore more values not available")
It says I have given many arguments for ISNUMBER function.
I am using to rotate through different values of 2 variables. The macro was created by a friend of mine 2 years ago so I need to modify it. The macro is quite usable so I hope someone will benefit from it. The problem with it is doesn’t rotate through a range of integers but only from zero to some number. In other words it allows to specify only the right hand of the range through which it will rotate (for example, from 0 to 100 or from 0 to 20 for A). The second issue with it is that it adds a difference number (“dif”, e.g. 3) to the start of the second variable’s range and starts only from there (from 3 to 100 for B). The third issue is that it doesn’t allow to rotate through a third variable (“C”) as you will see in my example. I am working on a task which requires precise definition of the ranges through which the macro will rotate and also the ability to rotate through a third variable. Need to modify it so that all the three imperfections are removed from it? Or maybe there are ready made macros freely available which allow to do just that?
I recently had a major system crash. Took me a couple of hot stops and starts to get my XP professional to behave. It seemed to sort itself out and all is now working fine except that is for excel 2010 part of office 2010 personal and business. I first installed Office 2010 in January this year and it has all worked fine. Now Excel spread sheets behave as follows - even those that were created before the system crashes mentioned above. If I enter integer 1 in any cell and press accept the entry becomes '0.01'. If I enter 1.0 the entry becomes 1 when accept pressed. I have repaired the Office suite. I have removed and reload the Office suite. I have tested numbers in Word and on the calculator and both work correctly - so my question is simple - How do I make Excel once again accept that a single digit should be taken at value and not convert it to tenths?
I needed to convert PartNumber to a string using Cstr(PartNumber).
The following VB code searches an Excel spreadsheet for a Production Order and then looks for a Part Number in the corresponding row. The Production Order can be listed multiple times, but there is only 1 Production Order/Part Number combo. When searching for the Part Number, it will find letters, numbers with a dash and letter/number combos, but won't find integers.
For example, it will find ABC, 3500-01 and T1000, but not 200.
is it possilble to extract integers from a text string within a cell?
Eg. Cell A1 - "ABC 123" I want to extract the "123" from cell A1.
I have many text strings from which I need to extract the integers from. The trouble is that each text string does not follow a consistent order, so I cannot use text functions such as LEFT, MID or RIGHT to extract what i need.
