Select The Names In Column 3 Of Rp1 And Printout In The Same Or A New Sheet Every Row Containing This Name From The Pattern Spreadsheet
Jun 11, 2006
I have two sheets, one called pattern of about 25000 rows and one called rp1,
which is a fresh sheet downloaded each night from the web. What I want to do is select the names in column 3 of rp1 and printout in the same or a new sheet every row containing this name from the pattern spreadsheet. So for every horse named in col c,I want its complete record, could be 1 row or maybe up to 20 rows output, from the pattern worksheet(for each). They will all be underneath each other. I simply want excel to extract all the data belong to these names in rp 1 from the pattern large sheet. The names are in col r of the pattern sheet.
I have two spreadsheets, one gives me the beginning and end of civil twilight as a measure of day vs. night. The spreadsheet has Date/Time in the first column, and the value 45 in the 2nd column when it is night. The second spreadsheet has also 2 columns with date/time and body temperatures of a squirrel. I want to get basic statistics (mean and standard deviation) of the squirrel's nocturnal body temperature, that is for times when it is night (value 45). The tricky part is that Date/Time of both spreadsheets are different. The procedure has to recognize that the date/time of body temperature lies between the beginning and end of the value 45 blocks of the first spreadsheet.
I have an email list that I email. Sometimes I get some that doesnt exist anymore. So my program sends email out and respnods to me that says these emails do not exist and gives me the emails. So I manually have to go and find them one at a time on my list to delete by CTRL F. Is there a way to submit all email names to find at once instead of doing one at a time.
How can I select sheets in a workbook based on the premise that the sheetname does not have the letter "Q" in it? New to forum, so apologies if format is not kosher. I have a group of 50+ workbooks which are all set up in the following format:
-Contains 30+ sheets. -Sheet names are varied, but follow a pattern. I try to keep the sheet names consistant on all workbooks so that it is easier to reference, but other users make this impossible. -However, I managed to keep two things consistant: There are two categories of sheets. In one group all sheetnames have a "Q" in them and in the other group all sheetnames DON'T have a "Q" in them.
Here is my problem: I need to run a macro to perform retative tasks on the GROUP OF SHEETS WITHOUT A "Q". To begin the macro I need to select these sheets and copy them to a new workbook, but since the actual sheetnames are varied, I am having trouble coming up with a flexible way of selecting sheets. The closest I have come is using a IF ... LIKE ... THEN statement, but I can only get it to work to select the sheets with a "Q" in the name and not the opposite.
Pre-requisite: I would consider myself to be very poor with excel, based on what I've read on this forum and found on my web-searches. I have a worksheet that has a list of data on the left going vertically, then a summary of this data going horizontally across the top. It is not arranged in such a way that transposing the data will do what I want. I am pulling the 5th word out of the title of each block of the vertical data and need to show this word on the horizontal section.
When I use this formula to pull the 5th word: =MID(MID(MID(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4),1,256), FIND("^",SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4)),256),2,FIND(" ",MID(MID(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4),1,256),FIND("^",SUBSTITUTE(A2," ","^",4)),256))-2)
I need to increase A2 to A30, then A58 (up by 28 every time) in every instance in that formula. The fill handle increases the values by 1, instead of 28 (even if I do 3 or 4 instances manually) How do I do this? I've run into this problem in other scenarios, and there HAS to be a way to get around it.
I need to create a function that selects 4 names randomly from a list of 15 names and displays the 4 randomly selected names in the one cell. Also, you cannot repeat the same name in that cell, (i.e. bob cannot be selected twice in his group of four)
This will sum the values in G1-G818 that contain livedb01 on the "MBX TO DBS" sheet, however this is not exactly what I want.. I want the SUM function to look for the livedb01 string in G1-G818 and SUM the values in D1-D818.
So instead it would look for livedb01 text in G column and take the value from D and SUM those once the text qualifier was found in G column..
I have a column containing names, blank spaces, numbers, a bunch of miscellaneous things. However all I want to do is extract only names, into another sheet, and not the numbers, blank spaces, etc. Youi'll see what I mean when you open the attachment. Offset isn't an option because the names don't appear in the column in an organized fashion.
We have a huge excel-sheet, containing disputes with customers. Everytime there is a dispute, the customers data will be transferred into the sheet. The sheet is organized like this:
DATE / NAME / ID / COMMENT / FREQUENCY (how often one customer appears in the list) /ID2 (ID combination of the date + ID) /Weekday
And here comes the task:
Find all customers who appear 10 work-days(Mo-Fr) in a row. So if a customer appears Mo-Fr and keeps on being in the list the next Monday etc. it still counts as "in a row". Same with official holidays. If a customer appears at a certain date he is "booked" and it doesnt matter if a appears a second time on that specific date.
Attached to this post you find an example in which you can see the structure of my excel sheet!
Note: I had to use a german version of excel when I made this little example - thats why the formula in the collum "Frequency" says "Zahlenwenn" its the german version of COUNTIF
I am trying to make printable book labels in one worksheet based off of values from another. The labels that I have are standard address sized and come in sheets with 3 columns and 10 rows. My "label" worksheet has 5 columns (with B:B and D:D as "spacers") I made a "calculation" worksheet that simply runs the equation I want to use for the labels from A1:A1000. On the "label" worksheet, I have this formula in cell A1:
Then cell B11 would be 41, C11 would be 51, A21 would be 61, etc.
I can do it manually by adding the function in the top row of each "page" (A1,C1,E1 then A11,C11,E11...) and dragging them down each "page." However, I may end up with 20 some pages of labels. I feel like there should be an easier way I can do this.
I need a function or VB code to parse through a column of numbers and find a repeating pattern. The column has some initial numbers that do not fit the pattern and I need those returned along with the repeating pattern.
I need to find and match patterns of strings in a column and fetch data from the adjacent column. I've attached a sample workbook with my sample data.
How can I find the appropriate matching pattern and fetch and fill data from the adjacent column from my source table to destination? I tried the string functions available and used SEARCH function to match the pattern and check whether it is available. However, when the pattern is found, how can I fetch the adjacent column ?
My attempt to code a formula using SUBSTITUTE, MID and SEARCH functions. Below is the monster formula I wrote - it works and returns 1 when the pattern is found.
I need to return the matching pattern that is found. And with it the corresponding adjacent cell's value.
I'm attempting to do work on pattern detection and actions based on how said patterns occur in a column. Here is what I would like excel to do for me:
Code: Pattern W1
Example A1=A , A2=A , A3=B
Pattern L1 Consecutive "A" 3 or more
Example A4=A , A5=A , A6=A
Triggers on specific events:
While L1 tracking variable = 0 -- If L1 is found, mark a variable to -2 then set the corresponding cell in the column over to the value of the variable (-2)
While L1 tracking variable < 0 -- If consecutive L1s are found one after another, then (on each consecutive occurence) multiply the variable by 3, then set the corresponding cell in the column over to the value of the variable
If W1 is found while L1's variable is < 0, then multiply the value of the L1 tracking variable by -1 and add 1, then set the corresponding cell in the column over to the value of the L1 variable, then set L1's tracking variable to 0
If W1 is found while L1's variable is = 0, then set the corresponding cell in the column over to the value of 1
1) I'm relatively new to arrays, but what I need to do is generate a list of file names and the sheets within each one. I would like to use an array for this, but since I don't have much experience.... well....that's why I'm here. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2) And the second part of this.... I was planning on using the FileSystemObject to determine the files in a selected folder and loop through that list of files, opening each one and harvesting the required info (file name and all sheet names). Should I use the FSO or is there something built into Excel that might be better (and also limit the number of dependencies for this little "project" of mine).
What I’m trying to do is create a Workbook that works within a folder that pulls data from other Workbooks within the same folder.
Example: Workbook name “RATES.XLS” would be the name of the main Workbook with all the information. I would like to be able to pull certain cells from the other Workbooks as they arrive in the folder over to the Rates Workbook. Every day, two new Workbooks show up in the same folder with a name like “1Name9_MMDDYYYY” and “2Name1_MMDDYYYY”. So the only thing different everyday is the date added to the name of the file and ofcourse the information is different, but formated the same and in the same cells.
Once I get the information from the other sheets linked, I will need to figure out a way to capture the date on the same line and move the data down the sheet within the Rates.xls workbook.
I am working on a personal macro that is lauched from a file that is produced on a weekly basis resulting in a filename that changes every week due to a date range that is in the file name (ex. Weekly Accounting 04_16_14 to 04_22_14.xlsx), for this example I will call this "Spreadsheet A". When working with this spreadsheet I open another spreadsheet ("Spreadsheet B") to retreive data and I then need to go back to Spreadsheet A again to paste this data. The problem I have is I don't know how to go back to Spreadsheet A since the name changes each week and I cannot hard code the name into the coding. I usually use Windows("Random Spreadsheet.xlsx").Activate to go between spreadsheets, but in this case I cannot.
Is there something that will allow me to return to Spreadsheet A no matter what it is named?
Workbook 1 has 2 spreadsheets. Spreadsheet 1 contains Item and Pass/Fail Columns. under the item column is the serial number of the item tested. the Pass/fail column has the serial number duplicated if it failed tested. what is the formula is to have spreadsheet 2 pick the items from the pass/fail column on spreadsheet 1?
I'm trying to pull 20 random names from a list of them every time I open the spreadsheet, and have them copied onto the clipboard to be pasted wherever. I have some code I found to accomplish this, but I'm not exactly what you would call VBA savvy. Could anyone look at this and see what I'm doing wrong? Or if it is right what I'm doing wrong to get it to work?
Sub GetRandom() Dim iRows As Integer Dim iCols As Integer Dim iBegRow As Integer Dim iBegCol As Integer Dim J As Integer Dim sCells As String
I currently have a navigation menu with 9 options however these options are based on Range names that I have set up.
The concern is that if someone deletes the cell that contains the range name, obviously that option in the navigation won't work, nor would you want it to.
However if someone re-enters a cell that you would want linked up with the navigation there's a lot more action involved.
What i'm looking for is a macro that can be used through a button, Idealy i'd like the macro to search through column "B" and look for key labels (ex: "Ground Floor", "1st Floor" "2nd Floor" etc.) and have each button set up for it's respective search data (ex. Ground button searches only "Ground Floor")
When I run the code, the active workbook is the "sFileName" file. There are a couple of problems that I can't seem to get around. First of all, when I run the code, I get a Method 'Open' of object 'Workbooks' failed error. If I debug, it is on the Workbooks.Open statement shown above. If I do nothing but hit F8, the file opens. The second issue is nothing prints. The file is available to me and I can access things on the sheet, but it will not print. By the way, the CLOSE command works perfectly. Is there a different way that I should be accomplishing the printing?
I have 2 sheets in my excel spreadsheet. One tracks data for a number of projects five different employees are working on. The other sheet is where I want to total up the number of minutes each employee has worked on their individual projects. I tried writing an IF statement like below but I am only getting the total in the first field even if the employee's name is not Employee 1....
How I can write this so their totals show up in the correct row?
