Sort Latest Dates In Lot Of Data?

I have a table as below, and I would like to keep only the latest date for each EMP_NO. For example:

Based on the table below, I need two tasks.
1. Sort out the data descending for dates
2. Have a way so that I can only retrieve the latest information.
Meaning if I ask for Pen, I should only get a value of X
Similarly for XYZ, I should only get a value of N

I have a workbook with two sheets.
Sheet1 contains details of all of the jobs I do.
Sheet2 is my customer list.
Customers appear only once in sheet2, but may appear mutiple times in sheet1.
In sheet1 I have customer name, lead date, job date et al.
In sheet2 I have customer name, first date, last date et al
I am trying to populate first and last date in sheet2 from the lead date and job date in sheet1.
Sheet1 has a range of 500 jobs

i got 2 sets of data, but the dates are not correlated
For e.g.

as u can see the dates jump here and there
is there anyway that i can sort it out so that the dates would correlate to each other on the same rows?
if its possible, i have like 16 sets of data to correlate, how do i do it?

I'm trying to pull out the earliest and latest dates associated with a text string in a workbook.
Min Max dates example.xlsx
i.e. in this example, I want one column to display the earliest date associated with DU 145, and the next column to display the latest.
From what I understand, I need an array formula to do this and have written the following, which works:
=MIN(IF($A$2:$A$6=A2,$B$2:$B$6))
(confirmed with CSE) - and the same for MAX.
Where I'm struggling is that DU 145 may be entered in the workbook as DU145, DU 145 or DU-145 and I need to take all of them into account. I tried:
=MIN(IF($A$2:$A$6="du*145",$B$2:$B$6))
As this works in a COUNTIF formula in the same sheet. But this just returns a date of 00/01/1900. I'm new to array formulae & haven't really worked them out yet. Is there a way to do this? I assume it's something to do with the way I'm entering text as removing the wildcard * makes no difference.

I need to use the VLOOKUP feature from the most latest files, I am using VLOOKUP in VBA code which is working fine, however the problem is that the files from where I do VLOOKUP are added randomly in a week.
Ex:
There are 2 Files, 1st File where the data would be looked up from the 2nd File, Now the 2nd File has names like this "Offline Data as on 10th May 14", "Offline Data as on 13th May 14", "Offline Data as on 23rd May 14", etc.
Now these files are send by another department, and each time the most recent data has to be searched from these files.. All of these files have to be maintained separately for record purposes.
Hence in the VLOOKUP, Lookup file keeps on changing...so is it possible to make a code in such a way that the code picks up the most recent file for reference, from the above example we would need to pull the data from the most latest file which is "Offline Data as on 23rd May 14" , if any other file is added in that folder more recent than the one mentioned than the code should automatically link it to that file.
I have managed to codify the lookup but due to this filenames being changed always I have to do this manually..as this has to be done at several columns in several sheets its extremely time-consuming.
So, logic code to pick the most recent date which is embedded in the filename...

I've searched the forum prior to posting, but have not found exactly what I need and am not familiar enough with macro code to modify based on an existing post.
Here's what I'd like to do: I have a worksheet with columns "A" through "J" which contain production scheduling information. Column "H" contains an estimated completion date - I need a macro to sort the rows base on the completion dates (in ascending order) when I request the macro to run - I'm attaching the macro to a button control. One concern is, the column contains some excel default dates of 1/0/1900 that I don't want to include in the sort because they should stay at the bottom of the sheet, rather than at the top. Any rows with the 1/0/1900 don't yet contain information, only the default date based on the calculations.

I am trying to use a function to search for a particluar value (e.g., ssn) in one column and return the "InDate" in another column. I thought this would be easy, but I'm having considerable trouble. When I do manage to get a value returned, it's the wrong value. I need to return the most recent "InDate" for the ssn that I search for. The button on the " Lookup" sheet is to sort the InDate column descending so that the Excel function will start with the most recent date when it searches. I've tried Lookup and and just about every other similar function with no luck. I originally wanted to search for a ssn and return the information for the last 5-10 most recent visits, but gave up on that long ago.

I currently have 5 dates listed, and formatted as dates. I update this list so under the 5th date I will add a sixth date. The next thing I want to do is sort these dates from newest to oldest.
Problem #1- It is not sorting these in the correct order. Example:
3-11-08(appears as) 2008-03-11(Written in box up top)
12-5-08
3-17-08
2-25-08
1-13-08
1-10-08
Probelm #2- sometimes the dates will not even give me the option of sorting from newest to oldest.

I havet he following code which sorts data. If there is no data to sort I keep on getting a run time error. Could I add something to my code to prevent the run-time error, as sometime there won't be any data to sort. The code runs when I switch to the worksheet in question.

I have two very large spread sheets that are worked on individually. Because of there size, sharing them causes issues and lock-ups (excel not reasoning) and lengthy download time.
They are now worked on individually with two separate file names.
I am trying to find a way, even a program, to at the end of each period, combine the files and update the data that would have been input.
I have attached examples of what might take place.

As can be seen, Example 1 has had information added to Columns A, B and C, whereas Example two has had info added to Columns D,E and F. Also, the data in Example 1 (E,3 and F,3) has been updated to reflect No with F,3 changing to "Blank"
The result is to combine both spread sheets and update the added / amended data into one spread sheet that shows an updated position as follows.

please see the spreadsheet, data are downloaded in bloomberg (I have broken the links already). I have some macro written to perform sort on every column by clicking heading in row 1,
I know excel usually stores the date in a number format but I can't change the date format here since data is downloaded in Bloomberg (I have also asked Bloomberg, format is fixed). But if I select the whole sheet and go to data -> sort, Redemption date as ascending then select "sort anything looks like number as a number", it works. I don't wanna do in this way, I would like the clicking label to sort, so in macro, I think I need to firstly convert the date into an integer then perform the sort, how can I amend the coding to accomodate this?

How to retrieve the latest data from dataset.
My data consist of multiple entries of same id(s) at various point of time. I need to extract the latest data of a particular ID. I was using vlookup but it extract the first entry of that ID but not the latest. and the data is entered into the database using userform and VBA macros.

I'm attempting to get a column of due dates to update automatically every time a date changes. The due dates are in B3:B15. There is a header in B3. The day after the actual due date, it is automatically changed to the same day on the next month (showing the next due date). I need the spread sheet to automatically sort the due dates from the closest due at the top, to the furthest due date from today at the bottom. Running it manually, or sorting it manually every time won't work. This is for an elderly couple who are having problems keeping track of everything each month. I just need something that will show them the upcoming bills and how soon they are due when they open the workbook. Anything other than opening the workbook is going to be too complicated. I'm new to macros. I've tried to modify some I've found in other threads, but no luck (lots of error messages). I don't understand it enough yet to figure out what I need to change. I've attached a sample sheet that shows the part of the workbook I'm having trouble with.

In the attached workbook, sorting the dates in column M results in absolutely nothing happening. The dates are formatted as dates (dd/mm/yyyy). The dates in column M are arrived at by adding a number of days (formatted as Number) to another date, the value of which was determined by an array formula. When I retype the actual date into another column and sort that, I get it sorted. Why does the other sort not work? BTW - I actually need to sort column M with column N.

I have data for various firms - such as revenues, employees, etc. - for multiple time periods. There is no uniformity, so for some firms I'll have data for 8 time periods, for others for 1, for others for 30, etc. I have hundreds of columns, but the three relevant ones are: in one column is firm ID, in another column in reporting date, and in another column is number of employees.
The attached sample data will make it easier to understand.
I'd like a summary table that tells me the most recent reported number of employees for each firm, and the date of that reported figure. If that firm never reported any employee figures, then the summary table should still have a row for that firm ID, but blanks in the 'reporting date' and 'employees' columns. So, the summary table should be 3 columns - firm ID, reporting date and employees.
The challenging aspect is that the most recent reported employee figure is not always the most recent date on which we got data from the firm (so I can't just do a sort followed by a 'remove duplicates'). It'll need either a multi-step formula solution or a VBA code (that's my guess).
The attached sample data will make it easier to understand. It has the form of data I have and the desired output form.

I've got one very strange column of dates. The dates in the column are in different formats and probably the first thing would be convert them into one format.
They are, like...

and
08/24/12 09:46:59
... type cells. The next thing would be sort them in some logical way not just by first number.

They might be sorted in some way by month and date but not by actual year that is left out completely. It is just total mismatch and doesn't make any sense.

I have in column A the units, and in B and C the date changes. I want, when I pick a month from the box, that it only picks the IN and OUT date that applies to the month that I picked (per unit). For ex: if I choose Month march, it should show only for unit 19902506 for example: A2 and A5. And not A7 and A11. As March falls in between the Start and End Date. Is that passible? Something with OFFSET? I managed to find the latest known date with the formula =lookup (Column M:N) but Im not sure

I have a list of football fixtures that I want to pace in date order. The fixtures are however linked to a grid which has the following formula =IF(FIXTURES!C1="","",FIXTURES!C1 )
so that a zero doesn't appear until a result is actually added. Unfortunately when you sort the fixtures into date order the grid still looks at the original square, NOT the moved one appertaining to the fixture.

I have an excel WS1 set up as DB; I want to keep this sheet for data revision. WS2,3, 4, & 5 will be data that is filtered and sorted, using WS1 as source so I want to auto copy the WS1 data. Can I just auto copy WS1 (how do I do that?) then filter and sort in each WS?

I am using Excel 2010. I am a novice user.
I have a lot of data to filter / sort. I want to initially to create a filter for a column of data - which has the format similar to hierarchical paths to files. The data is a mix of text/numbers. e.g.

Doing an alphabetical sort of this date would return the following order. As you can see while each strings in unique - there are many instances where they are simialr - if you ignore the unique numeric values at the end of the string.

So what I want to do is to create a filter for the strings - but ignoring the numeric bits at the end i.e.
reg_[0-9]+_+[0-9]+/d
The strings are obviiously of varying length and the number of hierarchical paths is different, so I can't split string on "/".
Similarly folder paths names can contain "_" so can't split string on this either.
As I don't know how many "/" or "-" instances there will be in the string I don't believe I can use the find function. Also as the amount of number will be different i don't think I can use =right(a1,X) either.
I may be able to search for the pattern above - as this is probabay unique - so maybe it's something like the following pseudo code:

So my table would show the name "data_out_reg" and the range of values 8-32

In the attached spreadsheet I track the performance of my team. I enter the AHT for my team in the work sheet named "AHT Summary".I keep updating this data every month. automatically sort the updated data and rank the agents based on their average AHT. The person with the lowest AHT should be ranked 1. Column is highlighed in green for your reference. Based on this ranking the work sheet named "Ranking" should be updated automatically. Since I am taking a weighted average for all agents, the one who gets the lowest AHT should be ranked 1st . In the ranking work sheet the agent with ranking 1 should be given 100, the second highest ranked person should get 98,third 96,fourth 94 etc.

I have Sheet1 "MASTER" and Sheet2 "Area1" and Sheet3 "Area2" etc...
My MASTER sheet has a list of employee names and the areas they work in. I have employees working in different areas, and I want to pull a list of employee names from the MASTER working in Area1 (sorted on the MASTER sheet) to column A on Sheet2, then pull a list of employee names working in Area2 to column A on Sheet3, etc...
I want it to do this in such a way that if I add an employee to Area1 on the MASTER data, it will populate that employee in the Area1 Sheet.
So basically, I'm looking at one column on the MASTER sheet to see if the area matches. Then looking at another column on the MASTER sheet to get the name. Then taking that name and transposing it to a new sheet corresponding to the area they work in.
I've attached a sample sheet. I want Column A in the Area1 sheet to reflect all names that show up on the Area1 LIST on the MASTER sheet, and nothing else. I'm using VLOOKUP to pull the rest of the data from the MASTER table.
There is a new sample workbook up now. Couldn't update it sooner due to site outage. I've removed irrelevant data to improve readability and focus on what I'm trying to achieve. Again, the main issue is scraping column E from the Master, and populating a list of all employees who match certain values in Column E on the Master in Column A of the other tabs.

I would like to be able to sort the data in this one cell alphabetically without retyping the data .ie use a sort function but only for a cell.
For Example cell A1 contains Chris Brown Andy
No commas there. Names are seperated only by spaces.
What function should I use in order to get Andy Brown Chris ?

if ID123456 has the status open dated 01/05/07 and the user later decided to change the status of ID123456 to closed on 03/05/07. The graph should count the number of closed then lessen the count of open because the previously open ID is already closed.

I have a list of fixtures and results arranged by date for a soccer league and have a forumla that I drag down beside each game which creates a value for each side that was competing.
I need for the result of those calculations to become the starting point of the next calculation involving each team, and so on. Is this at all possible?
Would I need a macro to do this or can I get excel to recognise these values and enter them for me?

I've got a multi column sheet containing, amonst other headings, "Date", "Transaction" and then a rolling "Balance". I have multiple rows with the same date and what I'm simply trying to do is have a formula at the top of my spreadsheet that finds the very last row that has data entered so that I can then extract & display the balance as at that point.
Date / Transaction / Value / Balance
01-12-09 / Salary / +£1,000 / +£2,600
01-12-09 / Fuel / -£50 / +£2,550
01-12-09 / Gift / -£100 / +£2,450
03-12-09 / Food / -£30 / +£2,420

In this example I'd want to return row 5 and then do some kind of lookup to retrieve the value £2,422...
