Subtracting 2 Columns Of Data From Each Other When Labels In Separate Columns Match
I have four columns of data, as follows:
label 1, value 1, label 2, value 2
I need to create a formula in the fith column that for each line will tell excel to:
look for entry in 'label 1' in 'label 2' if there is a match, then subtract value 1 from value 2, display result.
I have tried doing this with SUMIF but am getting nowhere fast....

Check To Match Columns Separate Sheets
I have a column on sheet 1 which contains 200 lines with a unique number in each row (account codes). I have another sheet (sheet 2) which contains the same column. sometimes an extra row for an extra account code is added to the col in sheet 1. I need to make sure that the col I have in sheet 2 always has exactly the same as the col in sheet one, where the same account code should never be repeated. I am currently trying to setup a sheet where I keep all the checks and controls.
How Do You Sort Columns So That They Match Up With Other Columns With Like Data
I have two columns one is web addresses and the other is email addresses but the rows do not line up. I was hoping that since the second half of the email address matches the web address I could somehow sort them so that the email address column and web address column match up. Here is an example but keep in mind that this list is about 9k long and this is just a sampling so you may not see any in this example that match. Also I may have more than one email address per website.
Counting Formula (compare Values In 2 Separate Columns To See How Many Times The Same Value Appears In Both Columns)
I'm trying to compare values in 2 separate columns to see how many times the same value appears in both columns. Ideally I would be able to insert a range function to compare the values in the column "ID 1" against the values in column "ID 2" and return the count of times that a value appears in both columns. For example 2122, 1112 and 1718 appear in both columns and I would like the formula to return a count of 3.
ID 1ID 2
In my actual project I'm comparing 2 columns in the same worksheet. The column are column B with data in cells B2:B10266 against column C with data in cells C2:C18560.
Filtering Data Using Two Separate Columns
I have text in column A and text in column B. I would like to create column C and place the number 1 in each row whenever columns A and B contain the text I am looking for. I could then use C to filter all the 1's with ease (by way of macro or the autofilter). In my problem, column A contains the following text per cell:
Column B contains:
I need to filter based on column A having the letter "A", or column B having the word "MATT". Columns A and B do not have to contain both "A" and "MATT", respectively, in order for column C to have a 1.
Separate Data In Cell Into Columns
how to separate data such as this, into different columns?

Today this data is inserted into one cell, in one column, but in 50 000 rows (in 9 different sheets!). I would like to separe it into separe columns so I could run calculations on the data. Separating it manually would take me at least 1 year,
Convert The Each Item [data] Above Into Separate Columns
I have a 45 page spreadsheet with over 3500 contacts and the data is currently listed in individual cells as seen below:
Director of Business Travel Sales
1200 Market St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Phone (215) 555-1234
Fax (215) 555-4321
I want to convert the each item [data] above into separate columns so I can then save it as a CSV file and then export th data into an email list; but I have no idea how do to this.
Splitting A Long Column Of Data Into Separate Columns
i have a long column pair of data, each entry in its own cell:
how can i program a macro to 'split' this column according to date? please refer to the attached picture as an example. i know this is probably a simple question but please bear with me i'm still new to excel programming.
Count The # Of Rows In A Spreadsheet In Which There Is Non-blank Text Data In 2 Separate Columns
I am trying to count the # of rows in a spreadsheet in which there is non-blank text data in 2 separate columns. For instance, if the spreadsheet looked like the one below (dashes just for formatting purposes):
Mary-------some text--------some more text
John-------<blanks>---------just text here
Sue--------just some here-----<blanks>
The total # of rows with something in both the "THIS" and "THAT" columns above would therefore be 2.
Data Does Not Match Between The Columns
I have a worksheet that has four columns. FName LName FName1 LNanme1. The data doe snot match between the columns... but I need to know which are in both columns.
I need to write a formula that will allow me to compare the LName with LName1 and give me some type of indication there is a match (1, yes, etc.). Ideally, after confirming there is a match, It would create another verification that FName and FName1 also match, but that is not necessary.
Match The Data In Two Columns.
I basically have a list of 4000 names in one column (A) and an extract from a report containg 26000 names, again in one column (B). I need to see which of the 4,000 names in (A) appear in the column (B) from the report.
How can I do something to either line up the names, or make them change colour or something so I can see the matches?
Copy Columns Between Worksheets If The Columns Don't Match
I have 2 worksheets in which I have to copy one column of cells from one to
the other. The problem is that the "main" worksheet lists nearly 3,500
clients and I have to copy numbers into the "main" worksheet on weekly basis
from another worksheet that lists only about 1,100 of those 3,500 clients.
Both client lists are in alphabetical order, but I obviously cannot just copy
one column into the other, because then the numbers won't be matching the
Match 2 Columns To 2 Seperate Worksheet Columns
Now i have one excel sheet with two separet sheets in it ( Sheet 1 ) and ( Sheet 2 ) . I have in sheet 1 a column A with material codes and ColB is discreption and Col C IS Prices . But in Sheet 2 Col D is materila Code and Col I is a price .
the recordes in sheet 1 are around 11000 but in sheet 2 are around 2200 where the sheet 2 has a specific materials from sheet 1 .
Now i want to update the prices in sheet 2 from sheet 1 for each item after confirm that the materila code in sheet 2 equal in sheet 1 so copy the price from sheet 1 to sheet 2
Sheet 2 is old prices and sheet 1 has new prices so i need update the new prices in sheet 2
Match 2 Columns To Copy Information In Other Columns
I have 2 workbooks (workbook1 & workbook2). Information in column A and column N must match both workbooks per row/ cell (ie. if A2 and N2 in workbook1 match workbook2, copy information from 3 other columns (S, T, U from from workbook1 into workbook2 - cells S2, T2, U2). Workbook2 may have information in column S, T, U, but I need to over-write it with the information from workbook1. If the information does not match per that row/cell (ie. A2 in both worksheets are the same, but N2, they are not, so go to the next line that does match and copy the information into worksheet2). I do not want to use a V- lookup for this problem. I really need a marco.
Hide Columns On Column Labels
I was wondering how I might be able to hide columns based on their 1st row labels with vba - I never know where these columns might be on different file I get but I want to hide the same columns every time. right now I am just specifying column numbers or letters but it's not working out:
Columns("A:C").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Columns("G:I").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Columns("K:R").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Columns("T:V").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Columns("A:C").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Columns("G:I").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Columns("K:R").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Columns("T:V").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Match Data From 2 Columns And Then Return Value From A 3rd One
1. i am comparing text
2. i have >100 countries, and with vlookup i have to type every single one, and this is what i want to escape (mb i need to refer to an array, or string, or no idea)
3. mb a solution could be sth with index, or match, i just tried it, copying some similar formula from www, but it didn't match the countries, and return the value respective for that country.
E.g. I have China in col1 (1st file), #employees 10 in col2 (1st file), and China in Col 1 in 2nd file. So, a formula should match China & China from both files, and return 10 as number of employees.
Match Two Columns To Data Table
I have a volumes sheet and based on two criteria (in columns) am trying to pull the corresponding value from the April Results Table. I have product type in C2 (this varies down the column) and depot numbers in D2. The table i am trying to match has depot numbers in column A2:A93, and Product type in Row 2 (B2:P2), where the two criteria are matched, i need it to return the corresponding figure. I have tried various combinations of Index and Vlookups but i cant get it to work!
Match Data Across Multiple Columns
I wish to add more criteria to the "Find Feature to Find 3 Matching Criteria in 3 Columns in Excel" (http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/advanced-find.htm) up to 7 criteria if possible. How can I do this? I wish to display the results in a dialog box or in a different sheet. I also want to run the find feature from a different worksheet, perhaps using a button instead of having to make a selection in the table.
How To Match Data Patterns Across Multiple Columns
I am using Excel 2007 and I need to search for data patterns that are spread across many columns. I am not sure how to search so that criteria is met across all the columns concurrently.
I am interested in data that matches the following criteria ;
Column B has the value 55
Column C has the value 70
Column D has the value 80
Rows of interest are when all the criteria in columns B,C,D are met at the same time (e.g 55 in B, 70 in C and 80 in D).
Lookup 2 Columns And Match To 2 Other Columns
I am trying to do a (what I thought was a) simple lookup involving 2 columns.
Pls see attached example. I am trying to find the "?" values, by matching column A&B of the input to the Data columns and returning the $$$ column.
I thought this wouldve been a piece of cake but its got me stumped!
Separate Name Into Two Columns
if anyone know if there is a formula that can separate a name which sometimes have two words or one or two space. For example a formula that can separate a name by first space in one column and the second half in the second column.
example: David T Blain
name is in column A,
column B is David T
column C is Blain.
I don't think this is possible with a formula, but if you think it is let me know.
I think it would be more efficient to do this with a macro, could you please see if you could provide a macro that can do this.

No Empty Columns To Separate Undelines
During a Webinar I recently attended you said that inserting empty columns between number-columns just to keep the underlines from touching was a bad idea - however, you never said, or at least I never heard you say, what the better way to do this is - in our situation the lines absolutely cannot touch.
Matching Two Columns In Two Separate Worksheets!
I have two worksheets with one row of 'accounting' type numbers in A1:A100 (it can be shorter or longer) on both sheets. I need to run a search on worksheet one to see which of them exactly match any on the second worksheet and then highlight them.
It can be a macro or it can highlight each entry a different color. Something so that I can determine which two numbers go together and I can run the thing only once.
There most likely will not be multiples on the same worksheet but if there are it will be few. If multiples happen it is ok it just needs to be matched to the second worksheet in a different color than the other similar numbers.
Another thing is if there is no match in either worksheet that is ok it can just skip to the next number in the list and check that one. There does not need to be a match.
Splitting Names Into 2 Separate Columns
I have two columns in my excel sheet, the first column has the Second name, First Name and the second column has the Date of birth.
Now what I'm after is two columns really, the first column should show the Furst name Second Name (space in between with no Comma) and the Second column should show the First Initial from the first name, the first initial from the second name and then the date of birth.
Create Separate Columns From One Column
I have a spreadsheet with these columns:Group_Name
The Group Name Column has the name of the group that the Contact Name is a member of. The Contact Name could be a member of many Group Names and therefore there may be many rows of the same Contact Name one with each Group Name that they are a member of. I have manually created separate columns for each Group Name in the spreadsheet that is attached.
I would like to have a macro that will look at the Group Name column and create a new column for each distinct group. I then would like the macro to go down the Contact Name column (I believe that I will have to have it sorted)and look at the Group Name that is listed in that row and put "True" in the Group Column that was created in the above step. Then, go to the next row, if the Contact Name is the same, look that the Group Name column and put "True" in the corresponding Group Column in the FIRST ROW OF THAT CONTACT NAME. Then Delete that row.
Alert For Repeating Numbers In Separate Columns
I am trying to do something that is probably impossible, but I figured if anyone could come up with a solution, it would be you folks here at Mr. Excel, so here goes.
I'm trying to set up two columns in Excel 2000; for simplicity sake, let’s just call them Column A and Column B. Each row in Column A will contain a code (a combination of letters and numbers) that represents one of 65 different workstations, and they could repeat multiple times. Each row in Column B will contain a number that represents a specific tool, and there are potentially hundreds of different tool numbers.
What I am trying to accomplish is to have something alert me when any tool number in column B appears alongside more than one workstation code in column A. It would really be nice if something like conditional formatting could be used to change the text to red or something when this happened. I know I can use filtering to accomplish this, but with hundreds of different tool codes, filtering just takes too long.
Split Address Field Into Separate Columns
I have a spreadsheet with a few thousand rows, yeah i know..lol Each one of the rows has contact details for individuals. I have the address for each person in one field with up to four different sections, seperated by tabs. How do I go about seperating each part of the address so it is in a different column? I have tried text to columns, and it only seperates the first portion of the address, seperated by the delimiter 'tab'.
Enter And Highlight Data In Columns Based On Other Columns
I have a worksheet with 20+ columns. For this macro, I only need to focus on 4 of them. However, none of these columns are ever in a fixed position so the macro would need to find them by name and NOT by column position. Here they are...
1. Vacation Type (will only have a text value of either "Cold" or "Warm")
2. Vacation Started (will always have a date *x/xx/xxxx)
3. Vacation Ended (sometimes it will have a date '*x/xx/xxxx' and sometimes it will NOT have a date and will be truly blank)
4. Number of Days (currently has ALL truly blank cells)
THIS WHOLE MACRO SHOULD NOT BE CASE SENSITIVE ANYWHERE
Here's what I would like the macro to do...
Scenario 1 - for "Cold" values Find "Cold" text values in the "Vacation Type" column
"Cold" values WITH a date in the "Vacation Ended" columnIF there IS a date in the "Vacation Ended" column in the same row, put the number of days difference between the "Vacation Started" column and "Vacation Ended" column in the "Number of Days" column.
The amount of days in the "Number of Days" column will determine whether these cells should be highlighted GREY or RED.
Scenario 1-AIF the number of days difference is 7 days or less, highlight the cells in the "Vacation Ended" column and "Number of Days" column RED.
Scenario 1-BIF the number of days difference is MORE than 7 days, highlight the cells in the "Vacation Ended" column and "Number of Days" column GREY..................................
Move Data From 2 Columns Into Multiple Columns At Each Change
I am trying to write a macro that will take data from column A and use it as a column header in column C, and then take the corresponding data in column B and list it under the column header in column C. When the value in column A changes it will move on to column D and then list the corresponding data from column B underneath it in column D until all of the data in the 2 columns is spread across the worksheet. Example:..............
Separate A Line Of Alternating Text/Numbers Into Columns
I have thousands of lines of data that are of the following form:
Jackson, TN 9623 BCBS TN 98 UnitedHlthCare 2
Jacksonville, FL 3577 Aetna 47 BCBS FL 37
Knoxville, TN 3796 Cariten 44 John Deere 41
Lakeland-Winter Haven, FL 2165 UnitedHlthCare 31 Aetna 29
I need to separate these lines into columns such that, for example, the first line would be in 6 columns: (Jackson, TN) (9623) (BCBS TN) (98) (UnitedHlthCare) (2)
The delimiter does not work because some of there is no one character that always separates the text and the numbers. I've tried going through in word and typing something like '%' where I want to separate, but with thousands of lines of data that is extremely tedious.
Is there any formula I can use that would be capable of solving this?
Extract Text From Column :: Place Into Separate Columns
I have a long column of info as below. I want to extract (the name changes)- "SEAPORT TWN" etc and also "01.30" and place into separate columns say G and H at the next available cell.

Indexing Multiple Columns To Return A Result From A Separate Column
col A = contains the style#
col B = contains the color of the style
col C = contains the size of the style
col D = contains the qty of the style, color, size
I would like to do the following:
A1 = input the style #
B1 = input the color of that style
C1 = input the size of that style
then D1 should automatically contain the qty of the mentioned style, color, and size.
Three HUGE Columns, Deduplicate And Dump Back Into Three Separate Email Campaign Databases
I have three very large columns that I need to deduplicate and dump back into three separate email campaign databases.
Here's the scenario:
First column: Largest (15,000+ records)
Second column: Medium (10,000+ records)
Third column: Small (7.000 records)
I need to know if the first column contains dupes from the second & third columns. If so, I must delete the DUPES ONLY so I have unique email addresses remaining in column 1. Then I need to know if the second column contains dupes from the first and third column. If so, I must delete the DUPES ONLY so I have unique email addresses remaining in column 2.
Then I need to know if the third column contains dupes from the first and second column. If so, I must delete the DUPES ONLY so I have unique email addresses remaining in column 3. I can't just dump all of them in one column and auto filter on "unique records only" because the three columns MUST remain separate from each other.
Hide Columns & Hide X-axis Labels
I am filtering the data displayed in a chart by hiding columns. I would also like to filter the X-Axis labels by hiding columns. If I do this manually I have no problems but when I run the following macro the chart gives a reference error for the X-axis labels.
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
num = Sheets.Count
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
For a = 1 To 5
Sheets(num - a).Activate
If ActiveSheet.Name = "A2 Data" Then
Selection.EntireColumn.Hidden = False
Match The Other Columns
What do I do to setup a column so that is matches the other columns. Basically when the other columns move, this column will move with it.

How do I get it so that when the player column moves, the team column moves accordingly?
Match Columns ...
I need to match 2 columns, example:
A B C
111 111 111
222 333 222
333 666 333
Ok here is the example of 2 sorted columns A and B, the result in C column should look than like i posted. C is the matched B column with A.
I heared there is a vlookup function for that, but I don't know how to use it :S
Match And Sort By Two Columns
Column A has customer name, columns B,C,D has corresponding sales data for
that month. Column E is blank. Column F has has customer name. Column
G,H,I has the same corresponding sales data for the next month.
Although Column A and F both have customer names, there are many changes
month over month with the addition and deletion of certain customers so the
rows do not match up exactly. Is there a quick way to have the rows match up
according to customer names in column A and F and then sort them
Currently my list looks like this:
I would like it to look like this:
Finding A Match In Different Columns
If a number in cell M1 is also anywhere in column A (column A has unique numbers), then cell W1 (date) should equal the content of cell V (also date) in the row that that number appears in column A. If M1 is blank (or there is no match in column A), then W1 should equal V1.
In W1, I currently have...
Lookup When Two Columns Match
how does the formula change when i want a new column to "bring in" ( lookup?) a corresponding value from the second sheet when it sees that the names match?
FIRST LAST HEIGHT1
John Smith 5'9
FIRST LAST HEIGHT2
John Smith 5'11
So, the conditional format would be a 4th column in the first sheet-- still comparing the first & last names-- but when they match it enters "HEIGHT2" into this 4th column.
This is still a conditional format, right? sorry if it doesn't belong here
Using Match Across Multiple Columns
I am trying to use the formula below
The last MATCH function is where it fails, because the value I am looking at (A6) could be in one of 5 different columns between L and AG
Match Columns In Two Workbooks
when I run macro get an error
The code will go through each line of data checking to see if it can find a match. If not, the cells will be highlighted yellow. It checks from both sides, first checks sheet 1 compared to sheet 2, then sheet 2 compared to sheet 1. That should encompass the variations between the 2 sheets.
Match And Synchronize Columns
I am trying to track price and status changes from week to week.
If a # appears in columns A, D, G simultaneously, then change in price (plus or minus) needs to be calculated.
If a # appears simultaneously in columns A and G, but not in D, then column H should read "SOLD" for those entries.
If a # appears simultaneously in columns D and G, but not in column A, then column H should read "NEW" for those entries.
The desired results (shaded yellow) need to be sorted in chronological order using column G.
This is a small excerpt from a much larger data set which includes 100s of rows and the number of rows vary each week....
Match Columns Based On An ID
I have a spread sheet with columns like this:
A B C
1 a a
2 b a
3 c b
4 d b
5 e b
6 f c
7 g d
Column A is an ID for manufacturers. Column B is the manufacturer name. Column C is the order in which the manufacturers appear. There are duplicates in column C only. They are supposed to be there, and they must remain there. I need column C to match up with the IDs in Column A so it can look like this:
A B C D
1 a a 1
2 b a 1
3 c b 2
4 d b 2
5 e b 2
6 f c 3
7 g d 4
