Concatenate Multiple Rows In A Column Using Delimiter Based On Changing Value
Aug 16, 2013
I am attempting to concatenate the dept numbers for each user in a list. For example, the first user listed below is associated with 6 depts. I would like the resulting macro to concatenate the dept's into one cell next to the Name.
Below is an example with the solution I am attempting to produce.
Sample Table
Name
Dept
Abbruzzese,James L
188100
[Code] ......
Output
Name
Dept
Abbruzzese,James L
188100, 231100, 600377, 600656, 600663, 600708
Abdi,Salahadin
600607, 600670, 600878, 600879, 710432, 710432, 710435

to concatenate across columns, say J through Q, (some of which are blank) and have the results delimited by a comma without returning anything for columns that might be blank. So R660 would read "0263B001A,FX9,FX-9,FX10,FX-10" and R669 would ...

I receive multiple worksheets containing transaction data with multiple numbers of row and columns. The data columns contain varying types of information like: price, quantity, location1, location2, loading dock, transaction date, buy/sell, purchaser, seller, currency unit, etc.
I have a need to concatenate into a single cell in a blank column, data from a number of cells in each row -- sometimes two cells, sometimes more. In some instances, I'd like to concatenate data for location1 and location2 with a delimiter like a semicolon-and-a-space to create a cell with: "location1; location2" Or in another instance, I'd like to concatenate multiple cells in a row, like: "location1; price; quantity; transaction date", etc.
I'm looking to create a macro that, with the cursor in a blank cell in a blank row, would open an input box, ask a user to select with the cursor the cells in the row to concatenate and then concatenate them into the blank cell in the row.
Ideally, the macro would populate the entire blank column with the concatenated data for the group of selected cells (from the same columns as in the row where the cells to be concatenated were selected) for each row where there is data. It is also possible that some cells in some rows of the selected columns would contain no data. In that case, I'd be looking to return just the delimiter, like: "location1; ; quantity; transaction date"
Right now, with no macro, I do it by hand like this:
To concatenate into cell I6, the contents of cells A6, B6, G6 and H6, I do a "=CONCATENATE(A6,"; ",B6,"; ",G6,"; ",H6)" in blank cell I6, but I'm looking for a way to do it fast in a macro that would fill in all of Column I.

I want to split the contents of a single cell(ALT Enter as delimiter) into multiple cells and retain the values in column B.
Ex:
A1: apple
banana
car
house
A2: yellow
B2: building
x
y
B3: O
Output:
sheet 2:
A1: apple B1: yellow

I have a string of text in one cell on Sheet 1 (ie., A1, Sheet 1), here is a excerpt:
A-dec International Inc., A. Bellotti, A. DEPPELER S.A., etc ...
What I need to do is split the cell into separate rows, using the comma as a delimiter. I will be reading the cell from another sheet and need a formula that will provide me with
A1: A-dec International Inc.
A2: A. Bellotti
A3: A. DEPPELER S.A.

I would like to automatically color fill a series of rows based on like information from a single column. When the information in the column changes then the rows would either stop filling (this would be best) or fill with a different color until the information changes again.
Summary: series of alternating rows would either be filled or unfilled based on changes from the column information.
Hope this isn't too confusing. Below is an example except I would want the cells filled, not the text or numbers to change. The highlight is changing based on the changing of the numbers.
ABCD 12345
ABD 12345
ABCD 12349
ABDF 12349
ABCD 12358
ABF 12358

I have multiple rows that I wanted to concatenate. I want the values delimited to a symbol like +. The problem using the sample formula =CONCATENATE(A3," = ",B3,"+",C3,"+",D3) is if there's a blank row the + sign will still display. I attached sample file with the desired result.

I have a formula, and it works okay, but I have to change it based on how many characters appear in a cell. I would like to avoid this, as there is just too much room for error.
The end result of my formula is to get a result like the following: U1C01EP or U1C01L04EP depending on which columns are completed. But the "variation" on the number of characters in the cell (1 or 2) and accounting for the leading zero is what is getting me confused.
In cell R4, I have the following formula:
=IF(S4="","",IF(X4="",CONCATENATE("U",V4,"C0",W4,$R$1),CONCATENATE("U",V4,"C0",W4,"L0",X4,$R$1)))
Column V always contains only 1 character, so this is not an issue. "U" will be added before the contents of this column in the formula
Column W will contain either 1 or 2 characters. If there is only 1 character, the concatenate needs to add a leading 0 following the "C" and then the contents of column W.
Column X will contain either 1 or 2 characters. If there is only 1 character, the concatenate needs to add a leading 0 following the "L" and then the contents of column X. Now this column may also be blank, if that happens, then there should be no "L" within the result, that portion would be left off.
Cell R1 contains the code that is added to the very end of my result. This code will change, so it is placed in a fixed location to be added to the end.
And I would like to keep the IF statement that I wrote accounting for Column S being Blank, yielding a blank cell completely as a result.

I am trying to get a complete list of applications per device. I have the device list but it is broken down into seperate lines so i would like some sort of formula (not fussed what type as long as it gets the desired results!) that will look in column A and if the text is the same, to concatenate the info in column b, separated by a comma. So for the first device (4d713006) i would get 1 cell that would have the list of all 52 applications in it separated by a formula. This is so i can vlookup the device name from another sheet and pull through all the list of applications.
I have attached the data : example.xlsx

I need a formula to be placed in cell Col A, Row 1, that concatenates any and all cells in Col A, with a ';' separating each item. I only want this concatenation performed ONLY IF an adjacent cell in Col B contains the letter 'X.
Additionally, if the cell in Col A is null, then I the formula to ignore it, and not perform the concatenation.
Is there a way to do this formulaically?

I ran across this macro in the posting " Move Adjacent Cell Into Rows, Same Column" and it is exactly what I need but when I try to use it I get a compile error on the Range("i1").Resize(n, UBound(b, 2)).Value = b. and several other problems. I also change "b" to "c" because this is where my data that I need to work with is located.
I have a similiar case much like the posting statement above where I have a spreadsheet on each row in cell "C" a EP CODE that have various information in it. My problem is that in the EP CODE column, it contains several EP CODE separated by semicolon (";") delimited . In order to serve my needs, each EP CODE instance needs to become a new row (record) whereas all of the information (except for the EP CODE) is the same and need to be repeated for each new row. Example: Before
Name Location EP code
WillisFremont 1;2;3;4;5;6
RaysSan Fran 7
SuNew York 8;9;10;11
After
namelocation EP code
WillisFremont 1

I need to concatenate varying numbers of cells based on duplicates found in a separate column, but I'm not sure how to approach it. I have 41,000+ rows of data, so I have to find a formula.
Example:
1AB2Denton, PaulFB357D4D3OwensTest, MarcyFB539F934Brennan,
JosephFB539F935Bowser, AmyFB539F936LaRock, ChuckFB667D3B
Based on duplicates in column B, I want to combine the data in column A into one cell. The duplicates in column B could be only 2, or could be 20+.

I am looking for a way of creating the following conditioned concatenation.
I have two tables, let's call them "summary" and "detailed".
The "detailed" table is something like the following:
ID
VOL
001
01
001
05
[code]....
The "summary" table below gets info from the "detailed" table. The 'ID'is now unique. I'm looking for a formula on the 'VOL (concatenated)' column cells it should get all rows from the "detailed" table with the same ID and then concatenate the 'VOL' column results, comma separated:
ID (unique)
VOL (concatenated)
001
V01, V03, V05
002
V01, V04
003
V06
PS: I have people using this table with office 2003, so compatibility is necessary...

I have over 9,000 rows of data. In column A, I have different values that I need to populate down to associate with values in other columns. I can't simply autofill all 9,000 cells in column A at once, because the values that need to be filled down change at irregular intervals.
My end goal is to be able to filter out values in column B to show their association with the value in column A, but I need column A fully populated.
So I need a way to fill A2:A7 with value from A1 (I don't care about B7 being empty, I can still have Martha in A7 with no adverse affects). But I need the fill to continue through 9,000+ rows where the number of rows to fill is inconsistent between value changes in column A (Martha-5, Sarah-3, Beth-4, Donna 3), and there are over 400 unique values in column A.
This is definitely more involved than I am familiar with, but any simple way for me to identify and list which of the 400 bakers made scones..
A
B

Martha

Currently, I have an excel sheet of names and addresses. In my address column, many of the addresses have carriage returns separating information. I want to divide this information by carriage returns and parse it into different columns.
I have already tried what I believe is the correct method: I go to Data>Text to Columns. I choose "delimited." Then I enter [Alt 0101] under "other" and make sure that is the only option checked. When I finish, only *some* of my data is parsed into corresponding columns by the delimiter while some isn't.

I have one column in a worksheet that I want to split into 2 columns. If there is one "(" in the cell, I want to split at that point, but if there are two "(" 's, I want to split at the second occurrence. I can use the Like operator to identify the cells, but is there a way to specify which delimiter in a sequence of identical delimiters to split at? Here are templates (not actual data) of the two type of cells:
Name1 (ABC) (Name2, Name3)
Name4 (Name5, Name6)
For the first, I want to split on the second "(", before Name2, and for the second, I want to split on the first "(", before Name5.

I frequently review DAT files. These DAT files use a variety of characters as delimiters. I'm trying to devise a macro that will perform a text-to-column operation, using the content of a specified cell as the delimiter.
Here's my code, which uses - (ASCII 0254) as a delimiter:
Code:
With Sheet1
Range("A1", ActiveCell.End(xlDown)).Select
Do
[Code]....
Instead of having the delimiter hard-coded, I'd like my macro to use whatever character I enter into Sheet3.Range("i5") as a delimiter. That way, I can easily change my delimiter character as necessary.

Based on the attached (much simplified) spreadsheet, I want the values in the green cells on the "Month" page (B6:B10) to vary depending on the value in the yellow cell (B4), and for these cells to to look up the relevant column in the "Full Year" page - i.e. if B4 (on "Month") = Jan, look up C6:C10 in "Full Year"; if B4 = Feb, look up D6:D10, and so on. I know I can nest IF functions in order to achieve this, but could be a bit messy. I'm sure there must be a simpler formula within Excel ... just don't know what it's called!

I'm trying to extract all the numbers from the left of the delimiter ":" . They can occur once or more.
E.g. cell F2 contains BP2.2.1:40 BP2.2.1:50 BP2.2.1:60 BP2.2.1:70 BP2.4.1:80
and what i want as a result is : BP2.2.1 BP2.2.1 BP2.2.1 BP2.2.1 BP2.4.1.
I've tried =IFERROR(LEFT(F2,FIND(":",F2)-2), " ") but only displays 1 out of a possible 4 in the cell.

Is it possible to format a row of cells (B7:KX7) depending on the value in column (G7:G1000) changing?
For example column G might have the following value entered into them.
A
A
A
B
B
B
C
C
C
So all the rows containing the letter A would be formatted one colour, then it would notice it changed to B and format all the rows with the letter B in, then C etc... The letters would always appear in blocks of 10 or more (representing students in a group) so it wouldn't go A,B,A,B,C,D,E
I am not bothered about the letter being tied to a certain colour, it just needs to change when the letter changes. I'd have no more than 10 different variables in this column, meaning no more than 10 different colours to format. Formatting would be black text with different coloured backgrounds.

I have 1 sheet called Setup which users enter their character name, their class, and their race, additionally the entire workbook manages data for up to 9 individual characters.
On another sheet called C|R|E, I have tasks listed that are based on each class type and each race type that are available. Currently there are nine classes and four races. Currently on this sheet each class and each race has its own individual data lists and such, and formulas are done in a way that user inputted data can be entered anywhere, but wont count unless the class and race match those selected on the Setup sheet. To keep the sheet short in appearance I used command buttons to hide/unhide classes or races not in use by the user.
What I was wondering is (and this could be hard to describe), can data in one column be changed to reflect data based on another column's focus? I will explain in more detail.
Column B contains the task information for each Class and Race. For example Cells B13-B51 for one class, Burglar. Columns D-L is where users enter data to show if the task is completed or not. In this example lets say the users first character listed on the Setup sheet is a Champion. What I want to do is check the Setup sheet Char 1. Then based on what Char 1 is selected as on the Setup Sheet, C|R|E B13-B51 data is changed to reflect it, IF Column D currently has focus. If Column E gets focus then B13-B51 changes based on the class selected on the setup sheet for character 2. and etc.
If this can be done I can remove the 13 different sections and have it down to 2 sections, one for class, one for race. For now I am using check boxes to hide classes and races they are not currently using, but would like to move all classes into one table and all races into one table to they dont have trouble with columns they have to skip over currently.
This is a sample of how I am currently working on the C|R|E sheet, the full code is much much longer since I am using so many command buttons.

Now, I have different tabs that reference certain cells in that column. There row number never changes, but once a month I have to go through and increase their column letters by 1, and there are a lot of places to update. Can anyone lend me some ideas or a solution to how I should go about using formula/macro to update these cells.
