Copying The Same Column From Multiple Files Into 1 Worksheet
Feb 11, 2010
I have about 200 excel files all with the same layout as they are questionnaire answer forms, all I want from them is the information from 1 Column: Column C. I want to copy the information that is in Column C of all 200 files into 1 worksheet, each column next to each other in the worksheet so I can just scroll along and see all answers next to each other.
Is there any way to easily do this? At the minute I am manually pasting the column I want into my worksheet but this is taking too long.
How do I write a vb macro that copies everything from multiple files, including sheets within files, and puts them into one master file. Here's what I have so far. I used a script from gnaga that worked great but it didn't copy seperate sheets. If you can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sub MergeSheets() Dim SrcBook As Workbook Dim fso As Object, f As Object, ff As Object, f1 As Object
Application.ScreenUpdating = False Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set f = fso.Getfolder("C:Temp") Set ff = f.Files
I have about a thousand Excel timesheets that all contain 'hours worked' data in a column. Each row contains the area of the project they have worked on and therefore the amount of time they have spent on it. The timesheets also contain the person's name and a w/e date.
I want to sequentially work through each timesheet held locally in a single folder and copy the person's name, w/e date and the hours held in the column into a single new spreadsheet. I need to transpose the data so each amount of time spent on an activity ends up in a column.
I have attempted to record a macro for this but each time I try and run it after the intitial run, it moves to a completely different cell or set of cells to the ones I have directed it and consequently there is no data copied to the new sheet.
I believe this is the first problem..! The second is working through a high number of spreadsheets held in a single locattion but whilst browsing this site I saw the "Excel VBA Loop Through a Folder of Excel Workbooks" page and think this should work fine.
I have 10 tabs in a workbook, the first five tab is for 5 Departments for the Month of March, the other 5 is for the same 5 departments for the Month of April.
I want to compare a particular field for each Department for the two months. The field is in column N.
Is there a code that will copy column N for Finance March, Column N for April and paste them into another worksheet in the same workbook in Column A and B, then go to the next department HR and copy Column N for HR March and April and paste in the same worksheet where Finance already as in column D and E, then go to Operations March and April tabs and paste into the same worksheet as column Worksheet G and H.
Basically the copied columns are pasted March April next to each other for all the businesses in the new .
I'm making a Excel list for trading cards (MTG) and I've divided it into different worksheets in order to sort it by the color of the cards (not really important I guess).
The issue I have is that I want it to copy certain columns (in this case C3:C1000, F3:F1000, G3:1000 ) from almost all of the worksheets into a new worksheet where it should paste them into column A, B and C.
In two of the worksheets it's also different (C3:C1000 , G3:G:1000, H3:H1000).
I've seen many where you copy one range from multiple worksheets, and that would've been okay I guess if not those two worksheets were different. I'd prefer not to change them, and I'd also prefer if I could've gotten just the information I needed also. Is this possible to do?
I have a workbook with multiple worksheets. Each worksheet is a set o data from a certain year. I want to create a macro that automatically copies the data from these worksheets into a master worksheet that can easily be used to make a pivot table.
I have this macro to go to a specific folder and open up all of the files in the folder and merge them into a worksheet.
I want to change it so the user can select the files to be merged.
Sub MergeFiles() Dim path As String, ThisWB As String, lngFilecounter As Long Dim wbDest As Workbook, shtDest As Worksheet, ws As Worksheet Dim Filename As String, Wkb As Workbook Dim CopyRng As Range, Dest As Range
I am trying to convert multiple tab-separated text files into one worksheet. All the text files have the same format and file structure. I have been copying and pasting these files into an Excel spreadsheet but this is time consuming. I need to find out if anyone has any ideas on how to accomplish this task using a VBA macro.
I receive a daily bath of 6 files (for now lets calls them 1.csv, 2.csv 3.csv etc...)
I have to manually open these select all the data and then paste them into a single worksheet in a different xls file (called master.xls).
I am trying to figure out some vba that will open each .csv file, copy the data and append to the end of worksheet 1 in master.xls. Ideally i would also like it to paste the name of the .csv it has copied the data to in column A of master.xls
Also, the .csv files will not always contain data, occasionally some will be blank.
Both .csv and master.xls will be stored in the same folder.
I've got a single folder for the year 2009 that contains multiple files, identical in nature but updated for each business-day. In other words, the same report is generated daily with updated info. The naming convention is the same for every file (i.e. Daily Net Debt Report 02.2.2009.xls)
My ultimate goal is to have a macro that is dynamic enough that if its run on any given day of the year, it pulls the data (specifically from the worksheet "Detailed Cash" cells C1:E26) from every file included in the folder and places it in a single worksheet in the master file. So, for example, data from 1/2/09 would go into cells A1:C26, data from 1/3/09 would go into cells D1:F26, etc...
I've pieced together code from a number of solutions on the forum and figured out how to find the files I need to process, but can't seem to figure out the code to actually combine/append each worksheet into a single one. I've searched the "sea of options" on this forum and managed to do one thing well. Pardon all my notes embedded in the code below, but if I don't do it that way, I'll only confuse myself further (which is easily accomplished) ... or lose my notes!
Iím going to run this code from an add-in menu, which is already created and working (yeaah!) Ö so (I think) I need to have the code either create a file named "Master (Combined).xls" in the target folder ... or ... have a file already created in MYFOLDER and have this code delete all but the header row when the file is opened(???) The "Master (Combined).xls" workbook needs to consist of one worksheet named "Master". I want it to open the current workbook (.foundfiles(i)), select all the data, and append it to the master workbook on the "Master" worksheet (sheet 1). The Master Worksheet in the Master Workbook needs to start out as a blank sheet ... except for the header row. I can add code to put the headers in at the start, if necessary

I have my students down the far left column (30 rows) and along the top for each worksheet is the criteria which they must be able to do. If my in row 2 completes the criteria text above in column 5 for example, then I input a 3 which then adds the points and works out their sub level scores. However I am now in need of it being able copy the criteria above if a student on any row has a T(for target) in that box. I would then like that criteria to be copied to a master sheet which displays their name down the side and all the targets they have for that subject in the next column, so that they can be referenced for their report summary worksheet.
I have a workbook with multiple worksheets. Each worksheet corresponds to a certain store fixture estimate. Ont these sheets I have a specific cell where you can input how many fixtures of that type are to be used.
On that sheet also, is a range of cells (ex. Range("A65:F3340")) that needs to be copied to a new summations sheet of total hours to build the project.
If sheet 1 has 1 fixture - the macro should copy the range of cells only once. Sheet 2 has 4 fixtures - tha macro should copy the same range four times appending each set of data tot eh end of the previous, And so on for each fixture sheet.
I have created an Profit&Loss excel sheet with all the accounts in column A and then the values for each month, January to December in column B to column K like this:
Column A...............Col B............Col C........Col D........Col E.....and so on Account 1..............2222............58452........5255.........5844.... Account2................5.................45...............25...........458 ....
I've made a macro that creates a textfile and saves it on my desktop, but I get a text file with all the info in the same file, what I want is to get one text file for every month, that is text file number one(january) is: The heading info+column A+columnB
text file number two(February) is: The heading info+column A+columnC text file number three(March) is: The heading info+column A+columnD and so on
In the heading info I have to state the period and then I need the macro to change this for every text file, that is for the january file it has to be "1 to 1", for february "2 to 2" and so on. As it is now it will always say "1 to 1" because that is the values I have entered.

I have hundreds and hundreds of excel files. but in every file, there is the same column lets say column D which has all the information I want. In stead of opening hundreds of worksheets and copying and pasting over the data into a new sheet. Is there a code I could write that would open all these files and copy the data from the same colum over into my new sheet? so column D in the first work book will copy to colulm A in the new work book. Then colum D in the second workboko will copy to the new worksheet in column B ect ect ect.
I'm sure there is an easier way than copying and pasting each individual cell from one spreadsheet to another. Is there a way I can define a batch of cells (city, state, phone #) and copy them into the other spreadsheet so I don't have to do each cell individually?
Here is a picture to show what exactly I am trying to do.
Also, the cells that belong in the same column and row on one spreadsheet are equal distance from each other throughout the other spreadsheet that has all the info in 1 column.
rearrange this macro for me that I could import multiple txt (200 files) files from selected folder. Could You insert appropriate comments in Your altered macro - where I should change how many columns I need to import from files,
- which column/columns I want to import from files
- macro should automatically import data from the whole of the selected column or columns of each text file into one single spread sheet and import it to different columns
I have found this:
Sub test() Dim myDir As String, fn As String, ff As Integer, txt As String Dim delim As String, n As Long, b(), flg As Boolean, x, t As Integer myDir = "c: est" '
I have excel data file where the code can split the data into different xls file on the basis of country for first sheet only.
execute the code so as to create single country wise files for all sheets. i.e. file consisting of data with sheet A1,B1,C1. The present code works only for sheet A1 and it creates different files with data related to that country. I was looking for the output file with B1 and C1 as well for that country. Also new output file needs to be renamed just as of original one.
I'm using the following code to import thousands of html files into my spreadsheet. The code is working fine. Since I am importing thousands of files, when there is no more space on my worksheet, the code stops with an error message. I want to make this code add another worksheet & continue importing the html files until there are no more files to import.
Sub Master_Importer() Dim I As Long Dim strFilename As String Dim strPath As String strPath = "file:///C:/Documents and Settings/c/Desktop/New Folder/" With Application.FileSearch .LookIn = "C:Documents and SettingscDesktopNew Folder" .FileType = msoFileTypeAllFiles .Execute For I = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count strFilename = Mid(.FoundFiles(I), InStrRev(.FoundFiles(I), "") + 1) With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _ "URL;" & strPath & strFilename _ .......................
I've got a spreadsheet made up of a Document Map and 100 sheets. I'd like to copy each sheet to its own file while retaining the name of each sheet, but I can't figure out how to retain the name- I get "Book 1" instead.
I have data in several files named APT1, APT2, APT3, APT4, APT5... then I have a master file called APTMASTER. the fles contain certain data in sheet 1, what I need to know is if there is a macro that can copy data from all the APT 1 to APT 5 in the APTMASTER in such a way that it is one continous flow of data. Can this be done by just a button...
how I can loop through folders to select files starting with a certain word and copy all of them to a different folder and rename them. The folder structure is given below
Company 1(parent folder) North South East(sub folder) West(sub folder) Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec
In the above structure, the files are present inside each folders Jan, feb...Dec under the regions North, South East n west. note that I have to select files starting with "Sales" and copy them into a new folder(say results) and rename copied files as Sales1.xls, Sales2.xls etc. (Files are not present in the folder company1, north, south, east and east.)
I am working on a file that has multiple worksheets with many links, lookups and formulas; some between the worksheets and some external to another Excel file. The plan is to use this file as a template and copy it over and over with new names. Once I save the file as a new name in a new folder on my network, will I lose all these links, lookups and formulas? Or is there a way to maintain the links or do a global change of the formulas (i.e., the original file name is "TEMPLATE" and the new file name is "PROJECT!1")?
I have 20 files with the same exact format. I want to copy two cells from each file (G26, G52) into another worksheet. Unfortunately, all of the files have the same name, so I guess I have to rename them all manually (1,2,3,etc.). Any code that will copy the results and paste them into A2,A3 and then go down the column based on the "name" (1,2,3, etc) of the open files?
I am having some 100 excel files in a folder. I need to copy specific values in those files to another new excel file. The file names are like file_0.xls,file_1.xls.....etc and the range to paste those values are like B1, B51,B101...etc...
I got the code for one file. Now i need to increment the final name and pasting range.
Copying data that is in one coloumn in an unsorted order to another file where I have the values in a specific order I want. There I want it sorted in a new row each time I click a button in the first file.
I have a script that does this in a new column each time. I need it in a new row in a table to keep the graphs auto updating without having to use a macro in the end file. Current VBA that copies it to a new column instead of a new row in the table (modified to remove file names).
How the current VBA works. It refreshes the file it is in to update the data from SQL, then opens the other file, copies it over using sumif compared to the first coloumn in the file. Adds the current date, copies everything it added and replaces it with values so the formula isn't kept once it saves and closes the file. It then saves the start file and stops.
I need to open each workbook, copy Sheet1, paste to next available Sheet# in Combined.xls, close the workbook and move to the next workbook.
I have the code for copying a specific sheet from one workbook to a new workbook. But I do not have the code which would perform the above mentioned task for me and I don't have any idea for how am I going to do this without your help
I have used the Search option to find out if this question had already been answered but I could not find a solution for this specific request
1) left click on tab 2) move or copy... 3) move selected sheets to book (File: Region 1.xls) 4) then go on to next tab...............
Now, this does loop through the requested files, I can see them open, then close. I'm guessing they are copying, but I take it that I need to have it paste, then go to the next? (The c:files is just generic, as the files are on our LAN, and I'm just paranoid. The "Erie St. Clair" are the actual names of the file, and the tabs).
I have a excel file that I enter information into. I have code that saves the files to a certain folder with the name, date, and time stamp for the file name. At the end of the day I might have 3 to 15 excel files I have created that day and I would like to take information from certain cells (examle: L3, B6, B7, B8, G8, and so on) and create a txt file with all of the information in it.
Example: 12/20/2007 Your Name 123 Somewhere St. Here, OH 45111 Home Visit
