I need to convert some xlsx files into CSV, but they contain the following foreign languages -
Polish Czech Romanian Hungarian
When saving these files as CSV many of the unique characters get changed to a ?
I have tried a few things like using Open Office and saving it as a text CSV and then adjusting the formatting to unicode 8 but it hasn't worked. i am using Excel 2013?
how to set one entire columns text to two different colors based on another columns values. So for example I have column A and B. Column A has two values called Internal and External. Column B is a title table so the entire column is just titles. We'll say it goes for 20 rows if you need a row count. What I am looking to do change the text in Column B to Red for External and Blue for Internal. I tried the conditional formatting and I just can't seem to find the right option.
We are doing a graduation project on an international airport, consist of scheduling flights on check-in counters automatically.
long story short, we ended up with an excel sheet like this: Screen_Shot_2014-05-11_at_4.png
Were y-axis are the check-in counters and x-axis is the timeline horizon (cell per 5-minutes)
I will do a VLOOKUP, to change each flight number to it's ID from an other sheet.
But the problem is that i want to AUTO-MERGE all cells with same value, because they represent one flight! and if i shortened the column width i can't see anything.
I want it to be like this: (i've done this manually, and it's VERY time consuming with errors because we have to do it for all days.)

I googled for days, i only found Visual basic commands i guess? that only merge same rows. and they were poorly made. beside that it didn't work properly. Method to do it automatically?
Please see the attached example. I'm trying to highlight cells only if 2 values in the row match 2 values in another row. If a book title/author combination matches that of another title/author combination in a different row, it would highlight. Some alternate rows will contain different titles by the same author, and some rows will have like titles by different authors...but they should not highlight.
The only situation where highlighting would occur is if the title/author pairing appears in another row.
I'm trying to decide if this would be a conditional formatting/highlighting rule, or if it would be a macro/vbs?

I have numbers that will display in column G. I have payment types entered in column E. So if 'C FUEL','FA','C M/C', is entered in column E I want the number in column G to be red.
I'm trying to figure out how to copy raw data from one file(emailed to me) and paste it to my existing file "File b" into a table "tbl a"(to make it dynamic). From another table "tbl b" on another sheet within in "File b" I want to auto populate "tbl b" with all the records from "tbl a" but not all columns from the records. To make it more difficult, I want to edit some of the data and the headings between the two tables are not the same. Example below.
Ship-to-name Product Name Date Shipped Customer Group
I have 2 columns with a list of competitors (competitor 1 & competitor 2) involved in a negotiation + the price/value of the negotiation. Each line represents a negotiation with a value in numbers & the names of the 2 main competitors involved.
I have around 150 lines in the original file and would like to show in a graphic what are the competitors that we regularly find in the negotiations and what is the value of the negotiations they are involved.
The problem is that there is no main competitor so i can find the same name in any of the 2 columns and i cannot make separate graphs for each column because if i do so i duplicate the value.
Is there any way that aggregate this info into a single graphic/pivot graphic? Im using excel 2013
I have a column in my data set that consists of dates and times in this format: 2014/08/02 01:46:49 PM. I am trying to convert these dates and times to numbers so that I can actually use these values for calculations and regression analysis. When I click on one of the cells, I get a number that is revealed along with decimals. For example, the cell with 2014/08/02 01:46:49 PM had a stored value of 41853.574. I tried to highlight the entire column of dates + times and click on the format cells button. I selected the number category under number but that did not work. I also tried to use the =DateValue(Cell #) function but that did not allow for distinguishing between the same date but different times.
What are my options for converting these dates and times to numbers that I can work with? Is there a way to get the entire column of dates + times to show each cell's numeric stored value?
1- I dont know why but sometimes excel 2010 converts numbers to dates automatically in my workbook. I use this macro to solve the problem, but since last week it is not working. I get an error: "Method 'NumberFormat' of object 'Range' failed".
2- because it should work in all cells of the workbook, the macro must make changes only in the cells with absolute numbers (ex: 1223) but must not change if in the cell there is a date like 12-may-2012 (numbers with hyphens).
This is my function: _____________________________ Sub PuxaDatas() Dim sht As Worksheet For Each sht In ActiveWorkbook.Sheets
I have lot of data in Excel 2010 which I wish to bring in Columns using a Macro depending on the input value which the macro should prompt me. For E.g.:
If I select data from A1 and J1 (in practical it will be more Columns) the Macro should prompt me how many Columns would be the output on Master Sheet. If the input is 2 then it should create an output Sheet "Master" and should show the following result
It after selection I run the macro and input 3 then the output should go in three columns (A1,B1,C1) one below other. If 4 is Input then 4 Columns (A1,B1,C1,D1) will come below each other so on and so forth.
In the ID column of the attached excel file whenever I convert the numbers stored as text to numbers it results in a weird transformation.
e.g. an ID of 480610141001 becomes 4.8061E+11. When I do the same process in the name column, which has similar numbers, it will give the correct result following the same process.
I have been looking through the forums and found the below code, but I have both text and numbers in the same range. I have attached an example of what I need to have converted.
See attached file. A colleague is downloading rows of data from a website which contains a number field Excel is currently treating as Text after being pasted in. My spreadsheet includes just a sample of the many rows of data however as you can see the VALUE function refuses to convert these text values to numbers. How these might be converted and why the VALUE function refuses to work in this case?
I have 29 excel files with some number of worksheets from 1 to 4. The name of the worksheets are the same in all the spreadsheets. Then I've a got a pivot table. I have to compare some data (3 columns) from the pivot table to the numbers from all these sheets from 29 excel files.
The back story is that from a system we use, when you download data from inside it, Excel treats most of the cells with a "Number Stored As Text" error. I had problems with this and it was just generally annoying so I wrote the below macro that converts each of the cells back to general cells and reinputs the data, essentially reseting the cell and keeping the data. Being that this is a loop, it takes a good while to run if alot of data was downloaded. Any idea's on how to speed it up besides screen updating? Note, other stuff happens in the first macro, but it is just cosmetic non-intensive things. It calls the second macro because I wanted them seperate should I want to just run the second.
Sub CleanData() Application. ScreenUpdating = False ' Find the Right most cell and the Bottom most cell and ' run the macro from A1 to this cell recursively Range("IV1").End(xlToLeft).Select Col = Selection.Column Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Select Row = Selection.Row Range("A2").Select Range("A1", Cells(Row, Col)).Select Application.Run ("FixTextAsNumberError") Application.ScreenUpdating = True ' End Sub..............
Public Sub add_tick_marks() Dim c As Range For Each c In Selection If Not IsError(c.Value) Then If Left(c.Value, 1) <> "'" And c.Value <> "" Then If InStr(c.Value, "E+") > 0 Then c.Value = "'" & c.Formula Else
I use these because I frequently copy billing account numbers that have leading zeros from some proprietary software and work with them in Excel. I need the leading zeros to facilitate VLookUp's. When I paste the data into Excel it truncates the leading zeros. My typical procedure is:
1. Copy a column of values from our proprietary software 2. Paste it in Excel (Ctrl+V) 3. While newly pasted data is still selected I hit Ctrl+1 which brings up the Format Cells form. 4. I double click "Text" 5. I re-paste into Excel (Ctrl+V) 6. I run my macro to add tic marks to the values so the leading zeros never get lost.
The problem occurs when I copy multiple columns of data and paste it in Excel. If one of the columns of data contains numbers or currency then I select that range of values and run the macro to get rid of the tic marks. After running the macro the numbers are still treated as text. When I select a range of those values and right-click on the status bar and select " Sum" there is no value. No big deal, I just highlight them and format the cells as numbers or currency. But after formatting them as numbers or currency, they retain their format as text until I click in the formula bar for each individual cell and hit enter, at which time they take on the number or currency format I have chosen and the sum can then be displayed in the status bar.
How can I force the formatting I chose to take effect on the data immediately without me having to individually "fake change" the data in each cell?
I have text as numbers downloaded to excel sheets from crystal that i need to add together on a summary sheet. I've tried using Value, TRIM and CLEAN functions to no avail. the TYPE function is reading the cell as Text and I have also tried multiplying by 1. Does anybody know how I can get around this ? hopefully I've attached an extract of the file
My and a work college needed to combine our separate excel worksheets into a single document.
Office 2013 didn't have a function to "import sheet from file" so we used open office to import my .xlsx worksheets.
After we finished importing we exported the final workbook as .xls (so I could open it).
After opening the workbook on my pc (excel 2013) i notice some of the sheets no longer have column headers, but the row headings still exists. (No ABCD, only 1234)
Also I am unable to use features such as "Freeze Pane"
I suspect this was caused by importing and exporting through open office?
