Excel 2010 :: Convert Multiple Columns To Rows Depending On Input Value
Jul 6, 2014I have lot of data in Excel 2010 which I wish to bring in Columns using a Macro depending on the input value which the macro should prompt me. For E.g.:

If I select data from A1 and J1 (in practical it will be more Columns) the Macro should prompt me how many Columns would be the output on Master Sheet. If the input is 2 then it should create an output Sheet "Master" and should show the following result

It after selection I run the macro and input 3 then the output should go in three columns (A1,B1,C1) one below other. If 4 is Input then 4 Columns (A1,B1,C1,D1) will come below each other so on and so forth.

Convert Data From Columns To Rows
Dec 2, 2009I have a spreadsheet that consists of columns of data and I need to covert it into rows depending on how the data is set up. In column A, there is a list of invoice numbers. Columns B, C, & D are as follows:
Column B: Sales Rep Name
Column C: Sales Rep Number
Column D: Sales Rep % Split
I want to have a single row for each unique invoice number. As an example, I have the following:
Row 1: invoice ABCD-1234 Sales Rep 1: 55%
Row 2: invoice ABCD-1234 Sales Rep 2: 25%
Row 3: invoice ABCD-1234 Sales Rep 3: 20%
I want the output as follows:
Row1: invoice ABCD-1234 Sales Rep 1: 55% - Sales Rep 2: 25% - Sales Rep 3: 20%
I have attached a sample workbook with two sheets; one containing the raw data and the second, which shows the desired output.

& placed in one column

If this is not possible, then suggest how to combine two columns to make it
into one column separated by comma.
Transpose Or Convert Rows Of Data Into Columns Of Data:
Feb 12, 2009When I was using Excel 2000, there was an Excel add-in where I could highlight rows of information and then transpose these into columns of information. Since we have upgraded to Excel 2003, the same Excel add-in does not work and I have not been able to find a simple solution to transpose my information from a horizontal view to a vertical view or the reverse.
Or do I just have to move 53 columns (weeks) of 4 rows one cell at a time to 4 columns of 53 rows (weeks)?

Match And Align Data In Excel Columns And Rows?

Excel 2010 :: Transposing Data With Blank Rows In Columns
Feb 10, 2014We utilize large data sheets that can be as large as 300K in rows and 10 to 15 columns wide. Because of how we receive the data, we are forced to manipulate things so that all matching data for a record ends up on a single row. (e.g. Record#, Document Type, Husband Name, Wife Name, Wife Maiden Name, Etc.)
Right now here's how the data is received:

Using two vba scripts, we first separate the data with row spaces between the unique data as follows:

Then with another script, we transpose the data as follows:

When we transpose the data, the end result starts at the top of the page and go down eliminating the original blank rows. Not a huge issue but I would like to be able to maintain the original data format of the rows so that the data matches the original sheet line for line. The end result would give me the data as follows...

where the vertical gaps between the letters matches the original rows. Like I said, not a huge issue since we can rejoin the transposed data to the original data fairly easily. But it would be nice if we could end up with the above format for speed sake.
The two scripts we use, one-to insert the rows and two-to transpose, take a very long time to run with the transpose script taking the longest by far. On a 30K row sheet, it will take on our systems around 30 minutes to transpose and about 15 minutes to insert rows. Because we have several columns that need to be transposed, a 30K row sheet will take at least 2 hours to complete. A 300K row sheet, that will take 10 to 15 hours to complete.
Is there any way to speed up the scripts either by upgrading to a faster CPU and or writing the scripts to preform faster?
My preferred solution would be to write (have) a formula to preform the transposition that gives me the results as noted above since formula's run so much faster than vba. Is this possible? I have tried all kinds of formulas and can not come close and of course the straight transpose function does not give me the solution I need as noted above.
I have enclosed an excel 2010 spreadsheet with 10K rows of data in rows along with the scripts I use (nothing sensitive here). The tabs at the bottom shows you the data before I transpose, then the data after it has been transposed . To speed up the scripts, I have stripped away the all the rest of the data from the original sheet except just what I need to transpose at one time. Once that is completed, we then re-join the transposed data with the original sheet. The six digit number you see to the far left of the data is the record ID number from the original data. We use this to rejoin the transposed data with the original data so that we know everything is back where it should be. (Note: The insert rows script is run on the original data and not the data you see on the enclosed spreadsheet. That is the only way we can generate unique rows with matching ID numbers. We arrive at this by taking the original data, concatenate the record ID with the column we want to transpose and add a # between the two so that we can break things back apart after the transposition using the text to column function using the # as the separator.)
The sheet I have attached is in the 2010 Macro Enabled format...(xlsm format). We use the xlsb (binary) format for the data to reduce the file size as our normal procedure and run the macros from inside that format. Changing from the xlsx to xlsb format did seem to speed up the scripts a bit and greatly improved the file performance as a whole e.g. saving and loading.
One thing I have done to speed up the scripts is to strip all the data away that is not needed for the transposition. That did work but only a marginal amount.
We are using windows 8.0 with 4G memory and your basic processor speed...e.g. nothing fancy.....just your basic stock computer. Nothing else unusual is installed or running on the computer or at the time the scripts are running.
For those of you that process large sheets, how much of a performance upgrade will we see in processing our scripts by either upgrading memory to 8G (or more or much more) and or getting a faster processor? Or have we reached the maximum script speed already? Or is this a limit to Excel.
One other issue to note: As I stated above, on the 30K row sheets, not a super problem with about 2 hours needed to run the scripts on all the data on the sheet. But on the 300K row sheets, it can take 12 or more hours to run and there are times when things 'lock up' running the scripts on sheets this size.

I could do this manually but because I have so many rows of data it could take days or weeks. Is there a macro out there that can do this??

Excel 2010 :: Moving Data Organized By Columns To Rows?
Nov 26, 2013import it into to Stata to do statistical analysis. I always receive spreadsheets like this:

and I have to manually reorganize it like this to import into Stata:

Is there way I can quickly design a macro to do this? The problem is that I generally have a list of about 60 countries, and years from 1991-2011. So, it's really time consuming copying the column of data corresponding to the year, pasting below, repasting the list of countries and the years...then again..then again...then again...I'm using Excel 2010.

Feb 27, 2007I have a very large sheet of all US zip codes by county name. Unfortunately, the document builder decided to list up to EIGHTEEN columns of zip codes per county name... I assume to make it easier to look at.
I now need to rebuild the sheet to have one column of county names and *one* column of zip codes, which will be a nearly impossible task if I don't find a way to automate the conversion.
Attached is a sample... sheet 1 is my initial state (except here its 5 columns rather than 18), and sheet 2 is my hoped for end state. Notice that the zip codes can, but don't always, fill every column allotted.

Jun 9, 2009I have a software package that requires serial number effectively data to be entered in a particular format.
As this can cover hundreds of lines I would like to make it less tedious to enter, and as my MACRO knowledge is very basic.
The data starts off in format below in example 1. After the data is CUT from the .html or .pdf document and PASTE into EXCEL. I would like the MACRO to start by pressing an activate button within EXCEL,
The serial numbers always have four digits with single serial numbers being separated by spaces and ranges being separated by a hyphen with the odd carriage return depending on how many numbers there are.
I would like the data to end up in two separate columns as shown in example 2.

Convert One Column Of Data To 257 Columns Of Data
Mar 11, 2008I have exported a text file from a universe database and need to import it into excel.
Below is an eg of one section. The text file contains approx 257 of these, all one below the other.
Between each set of dotted lines is one user profile (not data all shown in eg) .
Each one (user) is NOT the same amount of lines(rows) deep and only the dotted lines separate each user.
A simple import places all data into one very long column.
I need a way to place each user in there own column.
I have user names as column headings the labels of the values below as row headings. I cannot change this.
Manually entering the data took a very long time and i need to update this workbook regularly.
In the text file, " the variable......: value " (eg UserCode.....: XYZ) sets are all lined up so that using a text editor, with column mode, I can delete all the data headings/labels up to the space after the colon.
This leaves me with 7000 rows of values (eg XYZ) one column wide and various numbers of rows deep per user.
Is there a way to import the data and seperate each user via the dotted lines or other so that each users data is contained in consecutive columns. 1 user profile per column.
The standard import utility allows for column placement (delimted, fixed width). Can this be done on rows, sort of flip it 90 degrees and use the dotted lines as column markers. Just guessing now. Any and all assistance would be most appreciated.
Another issue (not as important but still helpful) is that the "procudures barred" section of user profile can also be one row(line) or serveral. Problem is each Name...:Value set must be on one row(line) for everything to match in the work book.
Using custom macros in my text editor i moved all the 'proc. barred' data to a single row. Alot of manual editting was involved and any ideas on this area would also be muchly appreciated.

Day1Val1, Day1Val2, Day2Val1, Day2Val2. etc.
On any specific day, either Val1 or Val2 can be the larger value.
I want 2 rows, with the following scenario:
Row1:
MAX(Day1Val1:Day1Val2), MAX(Day2Val1:Day2Val2), etc
Row2:
MIN(Day1Val1:Day1Val2), MAX(Day2Val1:Day2Val2), etc
This is for a Min/Max (stock) type chart.
Entering the formulas for the first 2 columns and then extending doesn't work because it single steps column numbers instead of double-stepping.
I already have 5 weeks of data, (and 4 rows: 280 cells) so I don't want to painstakingly do it manually.
