Filtering By Cell Entry - Clearing Filter If Blank

Nov 7, 2013

I'm wanting to filter a set of data by inputting in to a cell. And it works perfectly...

VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If (Intersect(Target, Range("B4")) Is Nothing) _
Then
Exit Sub
End If
Cells.AutoFilter Field:=2, Criteria1:="=" & Range("B4")
End Sub

The only thing is I now need is for the code to clear the filter if the cell (B4) is blank. It currently filters out all the data if the cell is blank.

Error Clearing Filter After Deleting Records

Feb 3, 2007

I have a macro (below) that takes a CSV File and creates multiple worksheets and then filters specific records out of each newly created sheet. The creation of the sheets works fine. But, after setting the filter and then deleting the selected records, when I try to 'Show All', which should leave the unfiltered records, I get an error indicating something is wrong with the 'ShowAllData' method.

Here is the macro up to the point where the error occurs: ...

Deleting Entire Customer Entry If One Cell Is Blank?

Dec 24, 2008

I have a large database of customers. I would like to edit this database so that it only lists those customers that have an email address listed in that particular column. I can then save that as a separate list to upload to my marketing campaign.

Is there an easier way than just deleting entire rows at a time? About a 2,000 name list with maybe 30% having email addresses.

Advanced Filter, Criteria Blank Cell

I cannot work out the syntax to run an advanced filter for all Non-Blank Columns! I have attached an example sheet, and you can see my syntax in cell D4. I am looking to bring through a list of all line that are both Status= "NOT QUOTED YET" and Project Name= NOT Blank. Unfortunatley, the Status Row will be set as NOT QUOTED YET when there is no project name enetered, hence the problem.

VBA Macro To Filter Rows By Cell Value & Hide Blank Columns

Oct 1, 2008

i have created a spreadsheet to simplify our work flow, I am stuck on what is probably the easiest of the commands.

basically have rows dedicated to specific codes and the colums represent values relating to each code, all codes have a different set of values, the attached example only has a few variables but the actual worksheet will have several hundred.

the idea is the user will input the code they wish to get details on in A2 and then press the command button and it will then show (as per the after sheet in the attachment) just the relevant information for that code, so filter the code in column A and hide the columns which hold no value.

where i am getting stuck is I am not sure the best way to proceed, is it best to create the macro button to do the filter and hide or is there a better way using vlookup and a pop up window asking for the relevantcode to be inputted to to retrive the information, again understand there will be hundreds of colums and hundreds of rows and the values may be 20 or 30 colums apart for some of the Codes so this simplification is really saving the user a lot of time.

Automatic Auto Filtering: Filter The List And Have A Box For Users To Type In Text

Aug 25, 2006

I have a list of a couple of thousand (and more) individual items. I want to filter the list and have a box for users to type in text (there are no numbers) and the results will be seen automatically reducing in number as more text is entered. (Similar to the Windows HELP files )

eg, typing A (or a) will show all entries beginning with A (without pressing
"Enter" or similar
typing AB will show only entries beinning with AB
typing ABO will show .........I guess you will understand the idea.

I have tried various forms of Filter - Auto and advanced - but still cannot get the spreadsheet to do what I want. Unless I am not doing the Autofilter (or Advanced filter) correctly (I am still a relative beginner!) I still cannot find a way of simply adding letters to a cell or input box and the filtering takes place 'automatically' as the letters are added.

Filter Lists - Find Relevant Entry

Jan 12, 2013

A stab in the dark here, but is there any way to be able to 'jump' to a particular position within a filtered list. My list has around 20,000 items in it and I'm having to go through each one systematically to make edits on the relevant line and it is so laborious trying to find the correct place in the list every time.

Is there anyway to be able to may be key in the first letter or two letters to avoid all the continuous scrolling to find the relevant entry?

Filter Rows To Display Only Records Having More Than One Entry

My understanding of Excel is that in order to get rid of rows that a VBA macro is needed since there is no function to do it. My VBA is limited but is there a way to specify criteria in a filter to hide the rows using a formula?

Custom Blank Entry

May 25, 2009

What I have is a table with over 20 columns that I use to sort and AutoFilter the 200+ rows of data. Several of the columns use Data Validation which require data to be from lists.

So, my problem occurs when I add a new row of data... I don't want all the values in the row to be blank (Some values should never be blank... This is why Data Validation was used here). Is there any kind of New Entry feature or some easier way to enter a new row of data? I know some other Office applications that use an easy UI to 'fill in' data types when a new entry is added.

At the very least, since it might be the only plausible result, I'd like a new row of data to result to default values (i.e. the top value in the list) in the columns that have data validation since should not be accepting blank values.

Also, I am very good with formulas and finding my way around Excel's features, but I'm not very experienced with the VBA programming or custom macro-writing.

UserForm Combobox Wild Search Filter Based On First Letter Entry

Jun 18, 2014

I am looking to modify my combobox from a userform to Filter the list based on the first entry on what the user will add.

I have a code that will search for all entries in my "Control" sheet and passed this on to my combobox:

[Code] ......

I have, within a module, the following function code that the user find the entry by adding the first 3 letters of the search they need:

[Code] .....

I would like to know what to change in the function to filter the list, once the user adds a first letter and then press the dropdown from the combobox, to filter the list based on all entries from the first letter to only show entries with that letter.

If A is entered, then, show only the entries strating with the starting letter A, but at the same time if the user adds more letter to filter to the first then second letter:

If AB is inserted, then, show entries with AB only.

Where do I add this code also, is this another function or this could be inserted within my function?

Error In Filtering Table - Additional Rows Shown / Rows Hidden When Filter Removed

Mar 4, 2014

I have an excel file with a table in it. It contains 2051 records (attached). This is just a sample, the original file has around 30,000 rows.

When I start using filters, I run into problems:

Step 1: Filter by Unit, condition (e.g.) Unit_23
Excel shows in the status bar the following message: 437 of 2050 records found.

Step 2: If I scroll to the bottom of the table, the row numbers are colored in blue (normal for a filtered list) however the last row is not colored and it actually should not be shown since its unit is not what I filtered for (its unit is Unit_25)

Step 3: Clear the filter of Unit

Step 4: Sometimes (depending on what I filter for), one or more of the bottom rows are hidden!!!

Find Row Number Of Last Non-blank Entry In A Column

I want to find the Row Number, not necessarily the cell value, of the last non-blank entry in a Column.

If the address of this row is found, then that could also be useful. I believe there are some simple Excel functions to do this, maybe involving the X1Up feature. I've searched the threads and haven't found a clear answer this.

Below is code that I custom wrote, but its long and tiresome to use.

'The purpose of this sub is to find the last filled row in a column
'Knowing this last row is useful for telling later
' looping operations which row to stop on.
'The logic of this sub is that it will look down a column.........

Clearing Cell Contents If Conditionally Formatted

May 3, 2009

This is my first use of the forum as I only joined yesterday after a recommendation from another colleague.

I am attempting to write a macro to clear the contents of cells in a range that have conditional formatting. Below is the formula I have used...

Sub clr()
Dim r As Range
For Each r In Range("09:050")
If InStr(r.Interior.ColorIndex, "40") Then r.ClearContents
Next r
End Sub

While the formula runs without error, it does not clear the contents, although I read on another thread on this forum that you cannot clear contents of cells that are conditionally formatted.

Alternatively, if there is a more efficient way to clear cell contents (without using a formula in the cell itself),
