Filtering On Specific Values Contained In Column
Oct 13, 2011
Column A
Row1 Orange-Apple-Pear
Row2 Orange-Grapes-Melon
Row3 Berry-Apple-Melon
Row4 Banana-Grapes-Melon
Row5 Orange-Grapes-Banana
Given the information above:
I want to find a macro that will auto filter on for example
"Banana" would filter to rows 4,5
"Orange" would filter to rows 1,2,5
"Apple" would filter to rows 1,3

Is there is some way to filter based on the value in a specific subcolumn.
Using the example of a list of salespeople and their transactions over the year, who sell multiple products, the PT is Sales Person name for the Row Labels, and Type of Product for the columns. The resulting PT has 3 columns, for each of the products - e.g. table, chair couch, and the Values are the total number of that item sold. Is there any way I can filter, so that I will see only those sales people who have sold 3 tables or more lets say. (Thus enabling me to quickly see what other products those sales people have sold.)
(The actual situation is a lot more data heavy than that - it is actually a list of donations for a non-profit, coming in from hundreds of people, across a dozen different categories; I am trying to analyse the extent to which people who gave for a particular category (Direct Mail solicitation) also gave across other categories.
So far I've manipulated things by inserting a '% of row total' value into the PT and then using countif/sumif functions outside of the PT to figure out how many people donated solely to this category (= 100% of row total), and how many donated to other categories too (= more than 0% of row total, less than 100%), which gives me a decent summary of sole donations to this cause vs other categories too, but doesn't visualise what the actual other categories donated to were. I've also investigated making a PT of the existing PT, but I'm not sure if that's even possible...)
(I'm using Excel 2011 for Mac, but if there's some other version that would make this possible, I may be able to use another computer.)

I've attached some dummy data. Basically, everyday I'm going to dump a report containing data into a 'Data Dump' tab. 'Pivot 1 - Filtered' I have set up so that it will show specific product IDs only (In this example I only want to see 1X, 2X and 9D).
However, I now have a need to see the total value of that order number in 'Pivot 2 - Autofilter'. (For Example, order number 1111 has both 1X and 8D contained within it). Now obviously the simple thing to do would be to filter every order number shown in pivot 1, and filter pivot 2 with them. However when I'm doing this for real, this can be tens/hundreds of order numbers.
The only workaround I have found is to put a column at the side using VLOOKUP and if ISERROR is false then include in pivot, then used an autofilter on that, but I'd like to keep the normal pivot if possible.

I am trying to do is filter out one column of data with another. Basically if a value from column A is in column B... delete it.
Here is code that I am using:
Sub filter_out()
' filter_out Macro
' this will scan one column and remove cells from it that
' are in it that are in another column
Dim INV As Range
Set INV = ActiveSheet.Range("A2")
Dim MW As Range
Set MW = ActiveSheet.Range("B2")
I keep getting object errors and it fails...

I have a spreadsheet with multiple columns:
Column B - Host Contact
Column C - Company Name
Column D - Attendees
Column E - Contractor Position
Column B will have anywhere from 1 to 10 names.
Column C will have 1 -2 names.
Column D will have anywhere from 1 to 10 names.
Column E will correlate with column D.
This list will go to multiple people who will want to filter column B for their name. When they filter their name, they should see all values in columns C, D and E.
When I try to filter this spreadsheet by a persons name in Column B, it only shows me the first value in columns C, D and E.
One of the attached pictures shows a mock-up of the unsorted list, the other shows the sorted list.

I have been trying to transpose a piece of code that was put on this forum back in 2005 into my own Workbook but have been unsuccessful. The original piece of code filtered a column for unique entries and then filtered the main sheet for each unique entry and cut and paste each row that the unique value occurred in and in a new worksheet. A new worksheet would be created for each unique filter.
So what I am trying to do is look up a list of values that i have in a list on the worksheet. Then for each entry in my list, create a new page and cut and pasted the filtered main worksheet into that page.
Finally return to the main worksheet and then remove all filters.
I have attached the original file that was submitted so you can look at how it works and I have posted a sample my worksheet (with some things disabled to reduce file size but hopefully you will get the layout. However I don't currently have that sample on this computer. It is posted on another thread under the title "Selecting rows with specific values in a column".

I'm currently working on a spreadsheet that contains 30,000 leads and their respective companies and i need to filter out any leads that work for companies present in a different list of companies (1,834 companies). Basically, i need to filter column A so that it only contains companies present in column B. Is there a way to do this using the advanced filter?

I'm updating my database of distances between different cities in our records... but the source that i have to lookup is actually a distance matrix....something like this...
From/ToMumbaiPuneDelhiKochiBanglore
Mumbai024014501800900
Pune240015501650700
Delhi14501550028002400
Kochi1800165028000500
Banglore90070024005000
Now i need to lookup the values contained within the matrix to get distances between them. I'm hoping if i can do that i dont have to actually manually sit and list down all the possible combinations of cities and distances between them but directly lookup the distances from this matrix.

Hi, I'm very new to writing Excel Macro's and wanted to know if I could do the following. Conceptually, I understand what I need done and think it should be fairly straightforward.
There's 2 main events in this loop (I hope that's the correct terminology):
Input 1) User defines the beginning cell to start the loop. In this case, A2.
Input 2) User defines the range of columns/rows to display. The formula for rows that I've thought of is 4r. So if a user wants 20 rows below cells A2, they simply input 5 for r. The number of columns is a constant 5. So if r=5, then I'd want the range to be A2:E22......

Need to trimming certain information contained in 1 cell and putting them each in a column. I could do left, mid & right but this time there is inconsistency in the content of the cell.
I've attached a file which will further give you an idea exactly what I want (formula to be in Column M to P).

All of the strings are in one column and are in General format. They contain a few different types of strings: some only numbers, some numbers separated by commas (which makes them NOT numbers according to ISNUMBER), some text only, some text and numbers (separated by comma), some are 3 numbers, each separated by comma, etc.
ldJBlt9.jpg
What I'm looking to do:I want each of these distinct types filtered out someway. I've already done ISNUMBER to filter out the values which are numbers only, no commas. Perfect.
For the next step, I'd like to filter out cells which have only numbers and commas. The comma itself makes them considered not numbers, so how do I add the condition that I'm looking for cells with digits and a comma? A wildcard?
Edit: I've found the following formula which can check if it contains a comma, but doesn't specify between digits or text. Just commas. =IF(ISNUMBER(FIND(",",A1)),"TRUE","FALSE")

I have a column that contains combined data of numbers and letters. I want to filter that column to exclude cells that contain the letter "d" or "f". I am trying to create a pivot table from the results of the filter to only display the ID #s that do not contain the letters "f" or "d".
The data inside the fields is not the same length and is not listed in a particular order. I have over 14,000 records I need to filter.
Data set example: The items in red are an example of the cells I would like to exclude from my worksheet. Is there a way to filter without deleting the data?

I am trying to create a Pivot Table that filters on a range of data.
I have a sheet with lots of data on it, and separate sheet where I have created my Pivot Table and my list I wish to use as the filter values.
I need to extract 630 specific Departments out of thousands and report the movements against those depts. The 630 will change as time goes on and I want to just have a range where I can update the values as and when changes occur. I initially tried using Filter on Department but realized this was going to be a very long winded process.

=(SUMIF($J:$J, "Player1",$K:$K)+SUMIF($L:$L,"Player1",$M:$M)+SUMIF($N:$N,"Player1",$O:$O))-SUM($I:$I)
This looks up if Player 1 was in the top 3 scoring zones and adds up the players total score.
I have another column in this table of data labelled 'Number of Players'. I was wondering how to lookup the total score for this player in the games he played under 6 players for example and the games he played in where there were other six players.
I've tried using that formula ^^ with variations of IF and SUMIF formulas to try and figure it out, but I keep getting formula errors or it just returns with the total score, and not just with the total score under 6 players.
I am also trying to create a graph of date on the x axis against score to date on the y axis - everytime I try, the x axis is always numbers instead of the date?

Any way to search for a value down column A, another value across roW 1, and tells what value lies in the cell at their meeting point. 4 example, I'm looking For "47" somewhere in column a, and also the number 53 somewhere in row 1, and I need to know what value is in the cell where those to meet.

I'm attempting to write a macro that will select all the rows which contain a value in a specific column. Say for example, all the instances of "test" in column C, I need to select the entire row with that value in the column.
I should also mention that by using an autofilter, only specific row numbers are selected. The source spreadsheet is dynamic and will not always display the same value in the same row, and thus I need something a little more adaptable.

I am fairly new to macros and I am currently working on a project where I would like to create a 2 buttons which will filter by date and by owner. The spread sheet I have is fairly large and is added to weekly.
I have two objectives that I am trying to reach:
First I need to filter for all past due task items from the Thursday of the week I am working in back and for a specific person (owner) by the finish date
Second I need to filter for upcoming tasks one week out for a specific person (owner). The objective of this is so that on any given day a user can find any upcoming tasks that are due one week out.
If this is not an option. My thought was to create an input box where the user can input the date and the information on the spread sheet will pull all past due items or upcoming tasks. These two items need to pull seperatly not together.
I know I can create a macro by autofiltering by columns however I am trying to avoid having to go in and change the date each week.
Start date is column E
Finish date is column F
Owner is column L

I am in desperate need of a function that will count a column of data where there are blanks and values based on a certain date that will also capture any data that is added after refreshing the table from Access. I have tried several functions but this is what I have: =(ROWS('TouchBack Detail'!$Q:$Q)*COLUMNS('TouchBack Detail'!$Q:$Q))+(COUNTIFS('TouchBack Detail'!$B:$B,'Nov TouchBack Summary'!B$1)). The result should be 3 but it’s including all other cells in the column that are not and should not be included in the refreshed table’s data (Table_TouchBack.accdb). I have attached the spreadsheet for review. The function is in cell B27 highlighted in yellow.

either writing a formula or coming up with some way to filter out certain values and it's stumping me... it's probably way more simple than I'm making it I've got an attendance spreadsheet with employee names going down the first column and dates going across the top row, managers use codes to indicate sick, personal time, etc.
There is a separate spreadsheet for supervisors to track vacation (don't ask me why) and I was asked to link the data from that spreadsheet into the attendance one described.
Linking is no problem, since it's the beginning of the year I'll just do a copy & Paste special.... paste link and they can still use that 2nd vacation spreadsheet to update both places for vacation time. However.... the vacation sheet has some extra info they don't need/want to see on the attendance one (ie. Lv @ 12:30, Holiday, etc.) How can I filter that out so that the only thing that appears is the V for Vacation that is linked & other attendance codes that are entered (S for Sick, etc).
I'm using Excel 2007

I am trying to find a way to quickly and efficiently filter an existing spreadsheet i have set up. My current spreadsheet is an excel sheet that has a couple thousand items and in the next column is the price for each item. My customers send me an email with a list of items ranging in anywhere between 1 and 1000 items requesting pricing. Is there anyway to quickly and efficiently filter the existing price list for the items my customers are requesting pricing?
Currently i have a filter on the item list but selecting each item is cumbersome and a waste of time.

I'm trying to find a way to use a macro to extract data from a specific column from Sheet1 based on the columns header/title and copied into Sheet2 into the respective column with matching header/title.
For instance, in Sheet1:
Chicken
Cow
Donkey
Pig
[Code]....
So the above table would be the result i'm aiming for.
NOTE, its not different workbooks. I'm looking for sheet to sheet macro.
I've attached a file as well if someone wants to have a go at it. There are no codes in it.
