Hiding Runtime Errors: Refreshes A Specific Data Range That Imports Data From A Text File

View 2 RepliesI have the following macro that imports data from several input files and rearranges it in a master file.I want to change it so that I can use it in each of the input files. Therefore, it should look in the input file for Spreadsheet "XYZ" and rearrange it in Spreadsheet "Data".

I am trying to automate in VBA the process of importing of txt file to Excel range. The columns widths are not static. So I can't use recoded code of Text to Column wizard process as columns alignment arguments, (ie FieldInfo:= Array(Array(0, 1) would need to be changed daily. I have also tried to import the text in one column and then apply a code of TextToColumns to automatically split the text by multiple columns. But some of the text would be moved to the left under wrong column titles. I think this is because the text is not tab or comma delimited. It's just aligned using multiple spaces.
Is it possible to write a code to split the text by columns based on alignment of 2 first rows. For example, import rows 6 and 7 from the text in one column, then apply texttocolumn method like this:
.TextToColumns DataType:=xlDelimited, consecutivedelimiter:=True, Space:=True
Then, based on this alignments take arguments for the Open File method like this:
Workbooks.OpenText Filename:= _
"filename", Origin:=xlMSDOS, _
StartRow:=1, DataType:=xlFixedWidth, FieldInfo:=Array(Array(0, 1), Array(10 _
, 1), Array(20, 1), Array(31, 1), Array(39, 1), Array(48, 1), Array(57, 1), Array(66, 1),Array(75, 1)), TrailingMinusNumbers:=True
I have a spreadsheet which has 3 separate external queries running from worksheet 'A'. My user enters a couple of dates in another worksheet 'B' to supply the date parameters for the query and a macro runs to refresh all of the queries and performs a few calculations.This works fine. The trouble is I don't want the user to be able to view all the data on sheet 'A' only the summary on B. My macro ends up on sheet B but whilst the query is refreshing the raw data is displayed to the user on sheet 'A'. When I hide the sheet 'A' i get a run time error '1004' Select method of worksheet class failed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to work this out by looking at other posts (mostly concerning Binary Access) but can't figure it! The source text files I am using can vary in length from 4,000 characters to well over 100,000 characters. However the data I am looking for always starts 40 characters from the end of the file and is 10 characters long! I need my macro to pick out this data and store it as a string (so it can be added to an array and exported to a worksheet later)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a text file with no discernable format ( can't import into excel) that is too large to put all the data into an excel worksheet. This file is made to print out on a network printer.
I don't need all the info in the file, I would like to specify a variable, search the text file for the variable, then specify the amount of rows down to look for the data value and input the result into an excel spreadsheet.
When the data is refreshed, how can i keep the previous data and use it in a graph that automatically updates?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have created a workbook which both imports data from an access database and exports data to same. Some of the data I need to access is dependent on parameters which the user will change in excel e.g. I need to extract PeriodID (ID for a month end date) based on a date in a speified cell in excel.
MS Query is a very handy way to achieve this as the wizards automate almost everything. However, this workbook will be shared on a common drive on a server (as will the database). Initial testing suggests that the connection and queries I'm making on my machine do not work on other people's machines.
What is the best way to achieve the queries in excel which query data from an Access Database, but will work on all machines accessing the sheet from a shared drive? Is there any way I can avoid writing complex VBA code for this? I have an awful lot of specific queries like the one I mentioned above to perform.
I have 2 Excel documents.The first document is named "data" and it extracts data from off the Internet every 24 hours. The second document, named "database", is for storing this data. Every 24 hours, I run a macro which imports the data from "data" into a new row in "database", along with the date the macro was run.
My problem is this: Whenever I refresh the external data in "data", my "database" document also refreshes itself instantaneously. My question is this: Is there a way to "cut the connection" between the two documents so that, when "data" is refreshed, the data in "database" DOES NOT also refresh itself automatically?
I have a list generator that creates a set of data in a multi-column & row dataset. I would like a formula to create a list of the alpha data points only which excludes blanks and any errors.
Example:
AADD
#N/A
BB23EEFF
#N/A
#N/A12GG
CC
Results:
AA
BB
CC
DD
EE
FF
GG
I am currently building a tool that works with an undefined range of input variables, e.g. I now have a range of 200 values but it could just as easily be 400 or 100. I am using these values for further calculations and have thus 'dragged down' to cells that in some instances are empty, resulting in values that are 0. I'm also building a chart based on these values, but it shows the values that are 0 as well!
Is there any way to just plot the non-zero values without changing the data range?
That does allow me to filter the output in Master, but ideally what I would want to do is not have to set aside 300 lines in the Master file for each of the Staff files. Conceptually, I'd like to have the spreadsheets Staff A, Staff B, etc. look for and export only lines which have data in them and then have Master bring those lines in automatically. This may not be possible, in which case your suggested solution is the best approach.

I am using a pivot table in excel 2010. 15 columns (fixed) and plenty of dive downs for rows.
I am trying to 'hide' all of the rows containing values less than 10. If it is easier we can start with hiding values of zero and go from there.
It is key to hide the rows as within the dive downs the rows within the pivot are to many to sort through. If there is a way to do this using the grand total columns for each row that would work as well. Just to be clear I need to hide the entire row not just report the empty cells as zeros. If any further detail is needed feel free to ask.
For example: If value of column O "Grand Total" = 0 'hide rows with value 0' ELSE 'display rows with value greater than 0'

So I need a vba to pull the data from that specific file - since I'll have more files open, but wouldn't keep the date since it will be different every month - is there an & that goes at the end or somehting: Monthly File Report &....xlsm?!
importing some selective data from txt file to excel. Only the following rows I need to pull out from text file into the Excel i.e. Project row, installation row, and two rows immediately below the installation row. This is my logical procedure..
1. Macro look for the rows that contains the word "PROJECT"
2. Open an excel file
3. Pull the row from txt file to this new excel file.
4. Macro look for the rows that contains the word "INSTALLATION"
3. Pull that row with INSTALLATION AS WELL AS Two rows immediately below the INSTALLATION row.
How I can create a simple formula to count unique values/text within a range of cells that contain duplicates, blanks and errors?
For e.g., in Column A (row 1 - 10):
Proj-001
Proj-001
Proj-002
Proj-004
#N/A
#N/A
Proj-007

I'm trying to find vehicle make and model in a cell containing a lot of text and then display that in the formula cell. For example if A1 is a paragraph that contains somewhere within it "Ford" & "Ranger". I want B1 to display "Ford" and C1 to display "Ranger". I have a list of vehicles makes (column A) and models (column B) on a seperate sheet.

EG: Within the attached worksheet i have just entered the data for the 03/06/2014, so i only want the formula to be copied into column F for this range.
Potential it could the vb code could look at Column B and if blank then paste.
I have a piece of code used to find a matching date in a column and then unhide that column. Code works because there was only one date on the sheet other than the one's I was trying to find. I now have to store additional dates in the sheet and this is disrupting the search as it stops (as it should upon finding a match). I would like to see if there was a way to modify it so that it will look for the match in specific columns i.e. Specifically the dates are located in AX1:IX1. Here is the code
Columns("AX:IK").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
Dim DateToFind As Date
DateToFind = Range("a1")
Cells.Find(What:=DateToFind, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByColumns, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False).EntireColumn.Select
Columns(ActiveCell.Column).EntireColumn.Hidden = False
I'm building an inventory report based upon a daily report downloaded from a website. The downloaded report changes from day-to-day. All of the data I need remains there, but the location of the columns changes, with the exception of "BOL". I need to sort all of this data in a macro. I have most of my macro figured out, but I'm having trouble with one "sort". I need the data to be sorted FIRST by whether or not the 4th column contains "Clear" or "Dyed". I have the next two sorts already coded, based on SPOT vs Contract and then numerically by column A. But I cannot find macro coding or an excel formula (either would work) that reliably searches the 2nd column for the word "Clear". I have tried different combinations of IFERROR, FIND, SEARCH, IF, ISNUM, etc. in hopes of writing a new adjacent column containing the values "Clear" and "Dyed". I have found many combinations that work if I search only the correct cell. But when I extend the range to search through ~26 cells in one row, they all fail. Below is a (small) example of what I start with and what I want to end with. I've also included my current relevant Sorting code in my macro.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded data from a system software in our lab that gives dates and other data. The problem is that teh dates are in some sort of text format so even if I change the format to a date format it still doesnt recognise it as a date.
The date format is in a 2 digit year format which is why the error is being recognised. I have over 50,000 line items with this issue so changing each individually is not an option.
Is there any way of altering these dates so that it recognises the year as 2013 automatically.
We have a program that writes a text file for a CNC Machine. It list the length of the board it needs to cut and how many. It may write up to 25 different files each day. All names start with the date. Today's files start with 1019 and a space. It is also the first line of the text file. I need a total of board feet from each file. My goal is to have one sheet that has the file name in the "A" column and the total feet in the "B" column. I'll copy part of the text file here. The L: is the length of the board and the N: is the number of pieces. All the files have a .prg extension....
