Limit Data To 100 Rows
May 14, 2009
I have a user form that writes data from textboxes 1, 2 and 3 into the next empty row in a speadsheet but what i want to do is write the data into rows 1 to 100 then start again at row 1 overwriting the data. The reason is that i have the rows linked to a graph and want to continually show the last 100 results and never have to manually delete old data.

I have a macro that selects a range of about 20 columns and fills down. It works fine on my smaller set of data, but when I use one that has about 40,000 rows I get the error:
FillDown Method of Range Class Failed
It fills down about 7,000 rows, then fillsdown the first cell of the next row, but leaves the others blank. The entire range (including the nonfilled cells) is still selected.

I have an area in my spreadsheet (the current region surrounding cell G6) in which the height for each row should not exceed a specified limit (say, 150). It's okay if the row height is less than the limit - these rows should be left alone. I only want to resize those that exceed the defined row height limit.
Is there a simple way to reset the row height for rows whose height exceeds a specified maximum row height limit?

I would love to be able to limit the number of rows in a specific sheet so that I can quickly carry formulas to the bottom of a worksheet without carrying them to row 1,048,576. I'm aware of options to hide rows and/or to limit the scrolling with the "view code" option on the worksheet tab; however, I'm mainly worried about worksheet performance. When I carry a formula down, I don't want to see a spinning blue circle run for minutes at a time, and I'm hoping to avoid the same spinning circle when I undo my formula. Is there any way to actually limit the number of rows, or is there any other limitation I could put in that would increase worksheet performance?

I have an Excel file that is 590 MB and Excel is telling me that since there are over 1,048,576 rows in this file (which I understand is the row limit for Excel 2010), it will only open partially, up to that row amount.
Excel suggested I open up the file in Word, but that has been unsuccessful - Word gives me error messages and won't open the file. I've also tried converting the file to .rtf and .odt, but again, that doesn't work.
Is there any way to break this excel file down? I'm assuming that whoever created it could not have made the document more than 1,048,576 rows, if that is Excel's limit, but maybe I am wrong. The document is in date order from 2008 to 2011, but only 2008 will show, and I know the later years exist. It doesn't matter to me which program this file opens with, I just need the data.

I have a sheet with a hierarchy of operating units in a column, with DirectX checkboxes next to each (used a VBA script to auto-create the checkboxes ).
The checkboxes go from D5:D147, so 142 checkboxes. They are named checkbox_D5, checkbox_D6 all the way to 147, so checkbox_[Column]&[Row].
Based on a True/False value in another column to the right (BA or column#53), I am hiding specific rows. Just to give a sense, if a checkbox for a Level 2 hierarchy is clicked, I have some formulas to determine which Level 3 rows will be shown by putting a TRUE in column BA. For sake a speed, I created these to only run for 30 rows per click (that's the most that would ever change on a checkbox click).
I did not know how to do it any cleaner, so I created 142 of these:
Code:
Private Sub CheckBox_D5_Change()
Dim i As Long
For i = 5 To i + 30
[Code]....
It works OK up to checkbox_D23 or 24, but excel seems to reduce the number of rows it goes through for each checkbox below that, with checkbox_D31 down doing nothing. I read somewhere about a 32 form item limit, wonder if I'm hitting that.. Cleaner way to do this vs. 142 instances of checkbox_XX_change() events?

I have a UDF for a lookup_occurrence formula (thanks to Dave), and I was wondering if it was possible to tweak the range it looks at with if statements.
I have a formula like this =Lookup_Occurence(B13, INDIRECT($N$5), 1,1,5) where N5 says exit card 1.
I need it to only look at a certain rows within exit card 1 depending on the value entered in I5.
If value I5 says Period_1 it will only look in rows 12:46.
If value I5 says Period_2 it will only look in rows 48:82 etc.
I believe I need to modify the xl look part of the code with if statements.
Below is the code. I am wondering if I can replace the xlLook line with nested if statements. If I5="Period_1 then rows 12:46" etc.
Function Lookup_Occurence(To_find, Table_array As Range, _
Look_in_col As Long, Offset_col, Occurrence As Long, _
Optional Case_sensitive As Boolean, Optional Part_cell_match As Boolean)
Dim lLoop As Long
Dim rFound As Range
Dim xlLook As XlLookAt
Dim lOcCheck As Long

I have a workbook with 3 sheets. Sheet 1 contains a month of data with Customer Name and Product Code, and quantity shipped (columns A, B, and C). Sheet 2 contains Product Code and quantity produced (Column A and B). In Sheet 3, I have the customer name listed once by running a pivot table against the data in Sheet 1. I need to show the quantity produced for each customer in Sheet 3 but not exceed the quantity produced for that Product Code in Sheet 2 even if the quantity shipped was greater. For example:
Sheet 1
Customer A - 100 shipped of Product Code X
Customer B - 200 shipped of Product Code X
Sheet 2
Product Code X - 150 produced
Sheet 3
Customer A - 100 total
Customer B - 50 total
Customer B would only be allocated 50 as there was only 150 produced and Customer A was allocated 100 of the total 150 produced, leaving 50 to allocate to Customer B.

I am trying to define/name a range in vba. The range will always start in the same place, but as more information is appended to the data set it comes from, the more (or less) rows it can populate. I want to limit the length of the range because I am using it in a data validation drop down list and i do not want to see all of the blanks at the bottom of the list.
Checking the "Ignoe blanck cells" box in data validation did not make the spaces disappear, probably because there is data in an adjscent column that goes much further down the worksheet.
My current vba is:
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="Date", RefersToR1C1:= _
"=Input!R4C4:R65536C4"
I want it to be the range that would highlight if I placed my cursor in R4C4 and hit Ctrl+shift+Down Arrow

I have the following code that makes the user enter a number between 0 and 40 for a textbox. However, I want the user to be able to leave the box blank as well, and not be forced to enter a 0 if there were no hours.
If TextBox1.Value > 40 Then
MsgBox ("Week 1 Regular hours must be between 0 and 40.")
TextBox1.SelStart = 0
TextBox1.SelLength = Len(TextBox1.Text)
TextBox1.SetFocus

have created a list obx using data validation. My question is, is there a way to limit the data available on the list.
Example: sheet 1
A1 A2 A3
Address A
address p
address s Date
Sheet 2
has data validation list that consists of all of A1 a named range called "address". Everything works great.
I now want to be able to limit the available choices in the list depending on what cell the user is in
example: if user is in sheet2 a1, i only want them to be able to pick address that have an "A" or "p" in cell A2 on sheet 1
I tried to acomplish this using conditional formatting, I format my named range with different colors, but the colors do not carry over to the data validation list on sheet2.

I need cell H18 to look at cell F4, and if the value in cell F4 is 'CFB', I need validation to limit the entry in cell H18 to the values in a named range 'pripro' to populate. That part I know how to do. (=pripro)
But if the value in F4 is CCP, I need H18 to allow anything. I'm having trouble adding this to the first part.

I have a macro that runs every 15 minutes and stores data into a table. This table is attached to a chart and auto updates with the new data every 15minutes. The table will house historical data over time, however I only want the chart to reflect the last 96 entries (15min data points over 24hours). So, once i have enough data my table will be A2:A97. When A98 is populated, i want the data in A2 to be removed from the chart only.
Here is a breakdown:
A2:A97 is currently displayed on the chart.
I enter new data into A98.
The chart will now display A3:A98.
I enter new data into A99.
The chart will now display A4:A99.
I enter new data into A100.
The chart will now display A5:A100.
and so on.
How I can accomplish this? Does this need to be done in VBA?

I have three codes (P, /P, P/) that could be entered in range H5:P5. P is counted as 1; P/ and /P are both counted as ½.
I have the following formula in D5:
=COUNTIF(H5:S5,"P")+COUNTIF(H5:S5,"P/")/2+COUNTIF(H5:S5,"/P")/2
I entered the following formula for data validation:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(H5:S5="P"))+SUMPRODUCT(--(H5:S5="P/")/2)+SUMPRODUCT(--(H5:S5="/P")/2)

I have a workbook with many spreadsheet named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. Each sheet is filled completely upto 65536 rows. This data is being picked up from a CSV file. In this file there are sites with each site there is a assciated set of data. What happens is the data that extracts data does not differntiate between sites and when it reaches to the end of worksheet it splits the data into next sheet. So I am trying to create a macro to check each spreadsheet starting with the last sheet in the work book for example last sheet in the workbook is seven it should go to sheet6 and if there is a blank row after row 64000 it should cut all the rows and move them to sheet7. Then it should goto sheet5 and do the same and keep on doing it until it reaches sheet1.

When you want to use Data Validation to limit the entry of the number of characters to a cell does this apply only to the cell that you are entering the characters or can it also apply to a cell that contains a LEN(A1) formula, for instance? Also,does the Data Validation limitation function includes spaces as well? Will the message appear while you are entering the characters (when it has reached the limit) or will it wait until you have hit Enter?

Can I limit the text length in a cell that contains a formula? You may say "Limit the text length in the input cell". That can't be done because the formula in the resultant cell takes text from two other cells in addition to the input cell. I need to limit the overall text length to, let say, 50 characters.

I have a section of my program that asks for board scores (point value is 6-10 in increments of .5) I have set up a data validation so that users can only enter those specific values. Problem is, none of the values can be more than 1 point from each other. (the part I have yet to figure out)
Example, if the first value is a 6.5 the second is 7.0 and the third is a 9.0, I need the data validation to display an error because the 9.0 is beyond the one point spread.
Summary: Display an error message if any of the points are more than 1.0 point from another.

need to create a macro that inserts 3 rows below each existing row of data and simply copies and pastes that data into each of the empty rows before moving on to the next unique row and doing the same thing again.
This is what I have so far, but I can't seem to get the loop right.
Rows("2:2").Select
Do
Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove
Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove
Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove
activecell.Offset(-1, 0).Select
Range(activecell, activecell.Offset(0, 5)).Copy
activecell.Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial
activecell.Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial
activecell.Offset(1, 0).PasteSpecial
Selection.Offset(1, 0).EntireRow.Select
Loop

I am trying to average different rows and columns within a larger block data set in a series. This data is from a 96-well absorbance microplate reader experiment. I only mention this to describe the raw data output I am dealing with.
Each set of data is in a 12 x 8 block with the next block below it with one blank row between. So I have a block of data contained between A1->L1->L8. The next block is contained between A10->L10->L17. This continues for a total of 28 blocks.
I want to take averages from rows or columns from each block and autofill them into a single column. So for example I'll need =Average(A1-C1) with =Average(A10-C10) below it and so on and so forth. My problem is that if I try to autofill from this already started column the third row will take the average of A2-C2 instead of A19-C19.
Is there a formula/script for me to skip the correct number of rows to the next data block?
I have attached my spreadsheet to this thread. I am using Excel 2013
FeS_Kinetics.xlsx

I am an undergraduate biology major working on a geometric morphometrics project. It is focusing on wing asymmetry, so I have data for the left and the right wings for a sample population of 30 individuals. The data from the software is exported as a spreadsheet with two rows of data for each individual, since each wing was calculated separately, and my mentor has asked me to average the data for subsequent analyses in another program.
I'd like to do this easily with an Excel formula, but when I try to do the averages I'm having a little trouble getting the formula to carry on correctly. I need it to average, say, E2:E3 then the next cell average E4:E5, but instead the only thing I can get it to do is average E2:E3 then the next cell do E3:E4. Which obviously doesn't work for me, since E3:E4 is data from two different individuals.
Is there a way I can do this for my data? One of my spreadsheets is a 60x32 matrix of landmark coordinates, so I'd really rather not try to do all the cells individually.

removing duplicate rows and move other data frm rows to columns.xlsx.
I am attaching a sample excel sheet showing what I need to do.In the first tab, I have a list that includes duplicate rows (first column only). I want to remove those duplicate rows but I don't want to lose the data in the following columns which can be unique or duplicates as well.
see the desired result tab in the sheet to get an idea of what I am looking for as the end result.
Keep in mind that the actual source file I am working with could have up to 50000 row, and the expected results could be around 2000 rows. So nothing can be done manually.

I have a spread sheet with values in the area of A1:H834
In column H, I have number values from 1-7.
Essentially that number value means that the values in the row are duplicate.
So, for example, if H2 has a value of 4, that means that $A$2:$G$2, really should have an additional 3 rows underneath with the EXACT same data in each cell, however, the way the sheet was created, was to remove the duplicate values and just indicate in column H, the number value of how many duplicates $A$2:$G$2 really is.
I need to unpackage this and create what it was originally. What type of formula can I use, to look at the value in H2, and then insert underneath that number of rowes with the exact same data as A2:G2 and do the same for the remainder of the table all the way down to A834:G834
